Mizdow is a riot. I don't know when the act will get stale, but hopefully not before he gets a split and Mania match out of it. As far as whether the ladder match is memorable, that depends on tomorrow and the weeks that follow. If its built upon, it will matter. If its not acknowledged in any fashion at all and doesn't impact how either are booked, it'll just be a very good match on a given ppv.

I watched the Smothers/Candido ladder match from the '94 yearbook earlier today. Thought this was a lot better. Obviously a lot less wrestling, but they had creative ladder spots, violence and blood. MORE!
-
That match was awesome. They even seemed to go out of their way to film the blood. Totally had me buying the finish on the 1-2 climbs before the end. Loved it. If anything else approaches or tops that this show will be a great, great show.

I rewatched the second half of the show which confirmed my initial thought which was that I enjoyed Charlotte/Banks more than Zayn/Neville. Huge Zayn fan and think he can do well at he next level, but Neville doesn't connect at all. He seems utterly emotionless at all times, which only works at those times like the spot during the 4 way at least big show where that was what the situation called for. It seems like he jumps from spot to spot and moreso than others who fall prey to that it really takes me out of things. Not to say I didn't enjoy the match, because I did, but not at the level it seems many did. Now the finish, post-match coronation and angle? All money. Loved it all. I almost fear that pulling the trigger on Zayn/Owens now rules it out on the big stage but won't fret about that too much right now and will simply enjoy it.
-
I will always love the love for this generally unheralded bit of greatness. There are better matches both within and and without joshi on the year, but this held up as a personal favorite because of just how far it went above and beyond expectations.

Not quite sure it would've generated mainstream buzz, but there were probably plenty of non-WWE events or shows he could've appeared at that they found a way to work into Raw that would've made it a really big deal to the core audience. Problem there is with the timing, I'm not sure you could've stretched it out enough to capitalize on it. Summerslam was too soon to bring him back, Survivor Series was already Rock's return and that means you're pushing it to the Rumble if you want to give it a real chance to draw. On the other hand, much as I like Rey, Summerslam wasn't about to do boffo business with him on top.

vs. Mutoh '01 G1, vs. Suzuki at the '13 Tokyo Dome. w/ Iizuka vs. Kawada & Fuchi '00.
-
They're not bubble candidates, but I'd be interested to hear a discussion on Eddy Guerrero and Bret Hart. As I've been going through yearbooks and other random footage, they're 2 guys I had pegged as near elites who don't quite feel that way at this point.

Its hard for people with control to give it up. I'm sure we can all relate to this in may settings outside of wrestling.

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Great Muta vs Barry Windham
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Has anyone ever been DQ'd for using the toe of the boot? Flair on commentary and it really doesn't add much like you'd expect. Handspring elbow and backbreaker but Muta misses the moonsault. Windham gets his knees up on another moonsault attempt and follows with the DDT to win NWA Title. Flair in the ring presenting the belt to Windham to set up their run.- 14 replies

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Fun, familiar RNR vs. Bodies/Midnights. They hit a lot of great tag spots that they've probably done a million times, but nice to see them get to do it once again on a national stage in front of a hot crowd. Loved Lane getting mixed up running the ropes and colliding with Cornette. Ventura suggests Pritchard is a doctor in gynecology, which seems pretty risque for the time period. We get the Gibson hot tag, double dropkick and a save before Eaton's interference backfires for the finish. ***1/2- 15 replies

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Chris Benoit vs 2 Cold Scorpio
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
First WCW PPV I ever bought. I'd buy the next few as well. They didn't exactly deliver the way Superbrawl did. Scorpio looks so much faster & more explosive than anything else going on domestically at the time. Decent counters resulting in a Scorpio dropkick. Benoit ducks spin kick and hits lariat in a nice spot. Just a great pairing and hot opener. The finish was so well done with impeccable timing from Benoit, Scorpio and GMC on the house mic. ***1/2- 19 replies

[1993-02-12-AAA-Sin Limite] Misterioso & Volador vs Tony Arce & Vulcano
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Very stop & go, with an in ring spot followed by some stalling. A few high spots keep things interesting, but there's absolutely nothing compelling here. nothing so particularly compelling. Misterioso & Volador win first fall via countout. Arce & Vulcano win 2nd fall with double submission on Volador. Faces with nice double dives in the 3rd. Misterioso another dive where his feet seem to get caught on top but luckily didn't get killed. Volador seems to pin Arce, but apparently not. 3rd fall definitely quicker. Arce pins Volador for the win. Way too long. **1/2- 7 replies

Looks like RVD is one of the babyface lumberjacks. Pillman does a great job trying to run setting up the lumberjacks keeping him in the ring. Great dropkick from Pillman as Steamboat comes off the top for a near fall. Love Austin pushing back on Pillman when he has Steamboat in Boston crab, and they focus on Steamer's back throughout. What's with the match ending during the break? On a taped show no less. Crowd is super hot for the match and all the extracurriculars on the outside. Fun stuff but nothing outstanding. ***1/4

[1993-02-20-WCW-Saturday Night] Up Close w/ Barry Windham
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Solie wants to talk about Flair, but Windham is focused on Muta and his title shot resulting from winning Battle Bowl. Windham is such an asset here, just doing an interview on the road setting up what's basically a cold challenger. Shame we're just about done with Windham as a player.- 9 replies

[1993-02-20-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs Stud Stable
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Bodies are out to watch. This is a fun little match, basic TV match. Bodies get mixed up with the Studds and Morton rolls up Golden for the pin. Big fan of the dynamic with all these teams involved.- 9 replies

[1993-02-20-SMW-TV] Tracy Smothers vs The Nightstalker
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
DWB out to cut up Smothers' confederate flag and throw it in the garbage, letting Nightstalker power bomb him for the pin and win the TV title. DWB then handcuffs him to the ropes while Nightstalker holds the locker room door shut to keep anyone from saving. DWB brings the flag in the ring and sets it on fire. Crazy that burning the confederate flag is a heel move. Finally some faces save and put the fire out. Solid stuff, but being a year plus ahead of this, I definitely prefer Dirty White Boy as a heel.- 11 replies

[1993-02-20-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Brutus Beefcake
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
Vince explains Brutus's mom died of cancer, his father from a heart attack, and then then he was served with divorce papers before finally reaching the parasailing accident. The 2 reasons he got through this were the big man upstairs and the Hulkster. Classic campy. Setting up Brutus vs. Dibiase at Raw. Vince tells him to go for it. Makes sure to mention Hulk will be at Raw. I guess this was actually from before the match we saw. -
Love the WAR crew walking to the ring. Simply the best act in wrestling from bell to bell and in this case, before and after. Hash wants to go after the WAR team but they hold him back. Great job pushing him vs. Tenryu as the premier match you want to see. This is again beyond heated, and the quick tagging with great action only furthers that. I love the spot where NJ (I think Kido?) tosses Fuyuki to the WAR corner and tells Tenryu to come in. He does just that and they trade sick chops before Tenryu lays him out. What happened to Ishikawa after this feud? Hase on fire when he tags in, hitting Tenryu with a stiff elbow off the top and a uranage. Love the ref blocking Fuyuki from coming off the top on Fujinami while he's controlling Ishikawa. The WAR squad uses numbers to put Fujinami in peril, but NJ wins the first fall with a Choshu lariat on Ishikawa. Kido twice uses an armbreaker on Tenryu, which he sells like a boss the rest of the way, on the floor and in the post-match. Choshu goes after Tenryu on the outside but they're quickly separated. Choshu surprisingly wins this in 2 straight falls with a lariat and submission. Rehabs him from the Dome, gives NJ a big win to keep them strong in the feud, protects Tenryu's role in all of this and still leaves you wanting Tenryu/Hash. Just the best. ****1/4

Scroll on bottom is already promoting Dream Slam, which is cool. Bat looks in over her head, but quickly tags Aja to control Yamada for a while. Toyota & Yamada finish this with a a gross backdrop suplex off the top on Bat, then an Ocean Suplex for the pin. Surprisingly quick. From the comments above it sounds like Toyota may not objectively scream more than some others. But for some reason it really stands out with her. Definitely grating. ***

Super hot finishing stretch to another strong entry from the feud of the year. I felt that way about it at this stage of the year, and that didn't change having been through the entire year. Tenryu goes over another New Japan star while Hase is absolutely crazed sticking up for his squad afterwards, even going after the ref. Tenryu fed Fujinami & Hase so much down the stretch you were sure he was taking the fall here, even though you knew it was too early for it. I can't say that this rises to the level of the elite stuff happening in All Japan at the time, but I could probably watch 6 straight hours of this with much greater ease. ***3/4

[1993-02-15-WWF-Raw] Ted DiBiase vs Brutus Beefcake
WingedEagle replied to Loss's topic in February 1993
IRS nails Beefcake's rebuilt face with the briefcase for a DQ and they lay into him afterwards. Jimmy Hart tries to stop them, but and IRS throws him out of the ring before crushing Beefcake's face with the case. Dibiase laughing at everything is great. Talk about Beefcake holding his face together, clearly working an angle off of his parasailing accident.- 11 replies

Absolute superstar reaction for Konnan. Heels win quick first fall with some kind of triple submission on Eddy. Konnan continues selling the knee at this stage in the match, which is more than I'd expect for him. Heat for Caras is just off the charts. He's not exactly an elite worker, but I remember reading in the WON when I was younger how awful he was. Cien Caras is not awful. As part of a trios he is awesome. Heels controlling in the 2nd fall as well in what feels like an NWO beatdown. Eddy & Santo eventually save Konnan. Santo ripping off one of the Dinamitas' masks is cool. 3rd fall is more of a brawl, but pretty sloppy due to the conditions. The rudos post Eddy's shoulder a few times, while Konnan is impressively still selling the knee. He then delivers a pretty big juice job from shots outside the ring. Eddy throwing awesome back elbows at Dos Mil in the corner. Santo's mask ripped up as well. Eddy dives at Caras on the floor, but he moves and Eddy lays out Konnan. Rudos throw Santo off the top and Caras rips his mask off to tremendous heat and a DQ win. Caras is just the best. This may have been long, but I actually enjoyed this more than some other similar AAA trios as this was less spotty, a little slower and more gritty. I'm sure that was a combo of the feuds and the weather, but I definitely dug this. There's always room for ripping masks. What's the point of them otherwise? ***1/2
