  1. RNR promo, as Cornette has going away present for them. Pritchard throws powder at them and they lay them out before tarring & feathering Morton Lee & Smothers eventually chase off the Bodies. RNR promo afterwards already teasing a loser leaves town match.
  2. Totally random and fun tv match. Owen with a quick dropkick and then they trade enzuigiris as Bigelow moving really well here. Bigelow drops Owen on a crucifix attempt. Owen takes a nice bump on it and sells the knee afterwards. Bigelow falls on Owen for near fall when he tries for bodyslam. Owen comes back and eventually wins with the flying headbutt. Great use of limited time. ***
  3. It took a couple WWF transplants, but Memphis is rolling here. Savage delivers a vintage Savage promo for an upcoming cage match. Lawler is responding with a promo of his own when Sherri comes out and smacks Lawler before Savage attacks him as he tries to piledrive her. Eddie Marlin stops Savage from delivering a piledriver on the floor. Sherri rules. Great heat for all of this.
  4. From the opening this isn't Hansen running through the rising youngster, as Kobashi hangs with him through strikes and focuses on the lariat arm. He really keys in on it with an armbar, jerking oit over his shoulder and kicks that highlight his strategy. Hansen really gives him a ton here, selling most of the way and putting over the effectiveness of Kobashi's offense on this level. He then resorts to a shoulderblock on the floor and chair shot to take control. Kobashi fights back with a sleeper and multiple legdrops but he can't connect on the moonsault. You'd think that spells the beginning of the end but Kobashi gets to block a powerbomb attempt before the awesome Lariat finish. Really terrific match that sets up what's to come on 7/29 as well as the match in the '94 Carnival, which I just happened to watch on that set. ****
  5. Wyatt will actually inspire me to vote in the WON awards for only the second or third time in years.
  6. At the end of the day I think everyone will have their own way of balancing peak vs. longevity. It should be easy for those with similar longevity in that a higher peak may serve as a tiebreaker, but if you're looking at something like Priest Holmes vs. Jerome Bettis or similar analogy of someone with a higher peak but less years on top it gets dicier. Personally, I can't justify a high, if any, placing for someone like Volk Han. But others will and that's cool. They're the ones who value his work more than other rasslers.
  7. Do fans care at all? Any more than they do about labor disputes in sports? They want games, not business talk.
  8. I don't think Bret/Flair in 1/93 holds up very well vs. either Bret/Michaels or HHH/Rock.
  9. This was one hell of a 10 minute clip. They're so quick in exchanging strikes. Its almost like a Tenryu match on steroids with higher level offense but with two guys who aren't quite master level communicators just yet. Kobashi is kicked to the floor going for a moonsault. They both have strong runs with lariats, powerbombs and counters for near falls. Loved Kawada kicking Kobashi as he's coming down going for a flying shoulderblock. Kobashi almost takes it with a powerbomb and jacknife for 2, but then misses a moonsault and Kawada, busted mouth and all, takes it with 2 powerbombs and a high kick in between them. Maybe this was Flair/Steamboat in full, but what we got was pretty terrific. ****
  10. Misawa working elbows to control the match and fight off Kobashi's offense. Great, diverse offense by both here. Kobashi looks good merely holding his own with Misawa as he doesn't exactly need to be winning this kind match just yet. He goes for the diving shoulderblock but Misawa elbows him. Kobashi kicks out of tiger driver to big pop. Tiger drivers down the stretch put away Kobashi. This wasn't Kawada/Taue but I'll never turn away from these 2. ***3/4
  11. We jump to Kawada backdropping out of a powerbomb attempt. They trade chops and kicks until Taue catches him in a powerbomb for a near fall. Great struggle again over a powerbomb in this match. It was noted above the counters here were just so smooth and great. These guys are prepared for what the other brings to the table and have ideas about how to stop it. Hansen may have the western lariat, but Kawada's running lariat is awesome. Big pop for a Nodowa near fall. We get a double knockdown after lariats. Taue pulls out a top rope dropkick which is pretty damn cool. Great drama down the stretch with the PA announcing one minute left. They throw the kitchen sink at each other and connect, but we get a time limit draw. Looking forward to their next match in the Carnival. They shake hands afterwards en route to teaming. ****1/4
  12. Nice back & forth struggle over a brainbuster before Williams takes him down into an armbar. Gordy goes for a DDT but Williams counters into a fisherman northern lights. Williams goes for the Stampede but Gordy hooks the ropes and lands on him, injuring Williams's arm or shoulder. Gordy can't hit powerbomb, but does hit a flat bump backdrop suplex. Williams does a good job of repeatedly avoiding the powerbomb. Williams counters backdrop into a pinfall, hits his own high angle backdrop driver for near fall. Another dangerous backdrop. Gordy again avoids the Stampede by hooking the ropes. Really liked how they had them countering each other's big moves here. Gordy with an awesome KO punch and cross body from the middle rope. Williams blocks yet another powerbomb. Gordy hits huge a lariat, then finally connects on the powerbomb but Williams kicks out. Another powerbomb wins it. Guess I'm alone here as I thought this was an awesome bombfest and better than most of what they did as a team. ***3/4
  13. Konnan interview outside at a hotel, Jake walks by and they get into it. Can't hear what Jake is saying but they shove each other and are broken up. It looks like a really big deal and hot angle. Wish we could get Jake's promos.
  14. The Bodies are arguing after the match, as Armstrong says that only Pritchard & Lane can defend tag titles because they originally signed for it. He's also looking into a rumor and will report on it next week. Says Eaton would be interested.
  15. They trade armdrags. Pritchard is frustrated that Eaton isn't taking it easy and doing the favor for him. Commentary does a good job explaining why the title & money it comes with are too much to pass on. Cuts to commercial and we don't get a finish. That makes all the sense in the world.
  16. Formal protest that Yoko should still be champ because there was no contract for a Hogan/Yoko match. Tunney rules that there was an oral contract and thus Hogan remains champion. Somebody here went to law school. And somebody didn't.
  17. Oz is such a badass even in the pre-match. JWP attacks right away, Kansai kicks Yamada in the head and pins her with a powerbomb in 12 seconds. That's awesome and unexpected. Kansai continues attacking at start of second fall, misses a Tenryu elbow and Toyota in going wild with dropkicks. She misses a moonsault but Yamada intervenes to let her hit one. Nice leg sweep by Kansai to retake control, then Oz in with DDT as feathers fly from Toyota's ring gear like some kind of hunting prize. Oz feels like such a perfect villain. More responsible than anyone for establishing the emotion and clear sides in this feud. Kansai and Yamdaa trade Yamada kicks, as they should. Oz then in with a fury on Toyota, who's screaming until Oz mercifully locks her in a choke. They trade great punches to the chest. Kansai in with jumping piledriver, head stomp and scorpion to Yamada. JWP takes out both, then Kansai a tope on Toyota and Oz an awesome somersault plancha onto Yamada. JWP hits double diving headbutts but Toyota kicks out. Toyota with a dropkick to Oz in corner, then she takes a double team on her head, but Kansai saves. Kansai Germans Yamada for 2. Yamada flips out of a powerbomb, hits a German for 2. Double power bomb on Kansai only gets 2. Finally Toyota Ocean Cyclone Suplex on Kansai wins an amazing 15 minute or so fall. Toyota opens the 3rd with German on Kansai. Yamada in with spin kicks and great fire. AJW dominating until Oz runs Toyota into the railing. Superplex on Toyota, who bridges out. Oz hits her twisting splash for near fall. Kansai northern lights on Yamada for 2. Surprising heel heat for Yamada kicking Kansai to break a Boston crab on Toyota. Yamada trying for but unable to hit the Gori Special a big part of the finishing stretch. Double diving headbutts on Oz for 2. Oz accidentally takes out Kansai on a dive, then double team flip suplex on Oz, Ocean Suplex but Kansai saves. Kansai powerbombs Toyota, lays out both with lariats, tags Oz who hits LOD finisher on Toyota. Kansai then hits Splash Mountain to win tag titles in sick looking finish. Awesome celebration as crowd chants for both of them. Great celebration with them up on the turnbuckles. So yeah, most of that was unnecessary for most but I like to have it preserved for my own reference. They did a hell of a lot but everything mattered more than the usual joshi sprint. I liked this better than Dream Rush for the sole reason that I never wondered when this was going to end while watching it, while Dream Rush felt longer at times. But it deserves a rewatch to confirm. Either way we're splitting hairs. ****3/4
  18. After the progression through the first quarter with back & forth matches in the feud, this feels bigger than the 1/4 match. Choshu with a slap as ref separates them in case you forgot they dn't like each other. Basic Struggle over strikes and control in the corner feels tense and important. It slows down a little as Choshu works a for scorpion, slightly reinforcing that Choshu looks better in tags. Nice lunging elbow from Tenryu, then working his kicks and foot scrapes for good heel heat. Choshu struggles to block but eventually eats a powerbomb, only to take a diving elbow from Tenryu on the floor. Choshu is busted open and they blow the spot flipping Tenryu to the floor but recover nicely. Choshu superplex for a big high spot. Riki Lariato and backdrop suplex for near falls aplenty. Awesome top rope knee to Tenryu's back. Powerbomb for near fall, then Tenryu hits an enzuigiri and another power bomb while continuing to sell. He's incredible at mixing in selling while controlling. Tenryu hits his top rope back elbow, but Choshu comes back with a backdrop suplex. Tenryu kicks out of another lariat. DDT and 3 lariats finish Tenryu. I can see why some don't like it because its not as quick as some others in the feud, but it was a lot of fun. Kojima looks so young at ringside here. Big win for Choshu, and didn't knock Tenryu down or reduce my interest in Tenryu vs. Hash. ****
  19. Dragon dropkicks Liger outside the ropes at the bell. Liger's strikes and pacing so great, especially for juniors who often don't even pause to breath. Looking forward to him vs. heavies. Samurai/Dragon sequence very smooth, really working in sync with one another. Honaga drapes Samurai over the ropes and goes to work on him with dropping him on the knee, camel clutch, bodyslams. Awesome Liger palm blows on Honaga. I was never too hot for Dragon even when he was touted as something incredible back in the WCW days, but his matwork here is really great and Samurai seems pretty underrated in that regard. Dragon sends Liger to the floor, but quickly rebounds and then Honaga lariat inside and a dive train that sees Dragon tope to the floor, Samurai somersault plancha and Honaga dive. Liger eats a tombstone, spike piledriver and jumping piledriver, but still can't be put away. He hot tags Samurai and they have a little run before Dragon pins Samurai with an Asai moonsault and rana. Would have rather seen Liger eat the pin after all those piledrivers. I enjoyed this. ***1/2
  20. Video clips of Sandman in his surfer gimmick to Billy Joel's "Big Shot." How about Surfing Sandman vs. Scotty Flamingo? Safe to say he eventually found his true calling.
  21. ECW! Jay Sulli and Stevie Wunderful. Tod Gordon out with the ECW title which will go to a tournament winner, and says a living legend will join the announce team, but Eddie Gilbert is out. Clip of Terry Funk on Quantum Leap sets him up as third announcer.
  22. Bret takes Yoko down with a flying clothesline, then Yoko bumps into an exposed corner and Bret applies sharpshooter. Fuji throws salt in Bret's eyes and Yoko pins him to win the title -- super weak finish. Hogan out immediately, as in before Yoko even gets his hands on the actual belt, explaining how Bret was robbed. Now that is opportunism. Fuji challenges Hogan right then and Hart nobly tells him to go for it. Hogan in, ducks Fuji salt and Yoko takes it. Clothesline, leg drop and Hogan wins the title. We get our 2nd Hogan posing session of the night. Wrestlemania 9.
  23. We jump to Beefcake hot tagging Hogan, who lays out Dibiase & IRS after a ref bump. Jimmy Hart flips his jacket to reveal referee stripes and counts the pin after an eternity. They take the tag belts but another ref is out who revives Hebner and its called a DQ. Hogan celebrates and cups ears with Beefcake & Hart in the ring. An absolute ridiculous amount of time wasted on that. They open Money Inc's briefcase with a brick and cash, and hand some money to people ringside. Hogan interview backstage afterwards. His eye is gross. Challenges the winner of Hart-Yoko, he wants Hart or the Jap. Well this was certainly terrible.
  24. Gorilla introduces Jim Ross in his WWF debut, in a toga. I guess its just their version of rookie hazing. Double main event of Hart vs. Yoko and Hogan & Beefcake vs. Money Inc. Caesar & Cleopatra ride into the arena. Savage carried out next. Then Heenan out backwards on a camel for comedy.
  25. Sullivan is fed grapes by a good looking woman (lowercase w) while lying on a couch in his shrink's office. He's still coming for Brian Lee. I know he's short, but Sullivan is a great, crazed heel.
