  1. Crush is on the beach in Hawaii, setting up match vs. Doink at WM. He crushes a coconut, bruddah.
  2. Leaving aside fluky upsets like Santino, how many of these really, actually shocked you when they happened? No argument that plenty were upsets, but most seem to be along the lines of "I expect X to win, but Y has a shot." Brock/Taker really the only one where I went in with the outcome a foregone conclusion.
  3. Misawa works the arm early until Taue bodyslams him and lays in kicks and a dropkick. Maybe I'm just a a Taue mark, but I absolutely love his facials with smugness and disgust and can't praise him enough as an All Japan heel. Misawa is great eating Taue's offense and painting him as a real singles threat with teased hops spots that Taue gets to frequently erase. Misawa eventually pulls out a nice dropkick and elbow suicida, but Taue is righ tback on the attack with a backdrop suplex and powerbomb on the floor. Another powerbomb inside gets him a a near fall. Misawa counters a Nodowa but Taue fights through, hotshotting him into the turnbuckle. Misawa counters another powerbomb with a ran. Elbow, frog splash, facelock. Misawa German for a near fall. Taue blocks flying elbow and hits a pair of nodowas for a great near fall in his last gasp. Taue missile dropkick for big near fall, then Misawa hits enzuigiri. Misawa high angle German near fall. Tiger Driver near fall. Another tiger driver gets the pin. Just a great, great finishing stretch. Sounds like I'm alone here but I thought this was just as good as and possibly better than Hansen/Kawada. Thought this finish built a lot better and enjoyed Misawa's selling more than Hansen's. Any comparison is purely an exercise in picking nits, but hey, they're back to back so why not. ****1/4
  4. Hansen attacks before the bell and the brawling spills outside where Kawada takes over with kicks until a Hansen shoulder tackle sends him *flying*. Both of their kicks and knees are just so stiff. Hansen goes for backdrop on the floor, but Kawada runs him into post. Kawada knocks him silly with kicks in the corner. Hansen gets rope break on Boston crab and attacks knee while still in it a neat twist. Kawada does a great job selling Hansen's kicks to face, but probably doesn't have to think too hard to do that here. Hansen with a dropkick & that dive through the ropes. Maybe I need to rewatch this again as its been forever and I'm relying on my notes, but outside of a few spots and the finish, this wasn't nearly as heated as I would've expected given the action and who was involved. A Kawada stretch plum brings the crowd back into it a bit. Kawada makes the mistakes of slapping Hansen as that's rewarded with a one punch KO. Great storytelling here of Kawada trying to take out the legend, but there's a reason this guy is a legend. Hansen power bomb, but Kawada has one last gasp that buy him some near falls. He cuts off one lariat with a jumping kick, but is turned inside out by the next lariat which sees Hansen fly to the floor. Hansen shoulder tackle and enzuilariato for finish. Told a great story, put over Kawada huge, and kept Hansen as the foreign ace. ****1/4
  5. Hulk says he's made mistakes and talks about tabloid terrorists who dwell on the negative. But the hulkamaniacs are not about that and instead dwell on the positives. Do as I say, not just as I do. Hypes an announcement for Raw.
  6. Flair says its great to be back in WCW, but won't t say what role he'll play there just yet. He's a champion and acknowledges Rhodes, Windham and Vader as current champs he has his eye on.
  7. Quick action early with fast tags and bumping by the heels. A Cornette racket shot sets up heel run with Gibson in peril. They brawl outside while Gibson stays working underneath inside. Great spot with him looking for the tag in the wrong corner as the other 3 going batty on the apron looking for the hot tag. Austin briefly cuts off the hope spot, but Steamboat in on the hot tag and all 8 guys end up in the ring with tons happening at once. Cornette tosses in the racket and we get a double DDQ. About as fun as a 10 minute match can be. ***1/2
  8. Cornette promo putting down the RNR who come out to confront them, setting up Morton vs. Eaton. Eaton takes out Morton's knee and works a figure four with leverage from Cornette. Basic, effective studio-style match with a Morton comeback before the Studd Stable attacks both guys. Bodies & Killer Kyle out as well, for big 3-way brawl. Really digging this feud.
  9. So odd for the confederate flag to be a babyface accessory. He's coming for DWB.
  10. Eddie with a promo talking about wrestling Doug. He paints Doug as an idiot, says he's finally going to take him apart. Christopher then out with Prentice. Lots of stalling / stooging and comedy with Christopher eating punches. Doug interferes for DQ. Jarrett out to save. Eddie's fun but USWA really doesn't do much for me at this point and that won't change over the next year.
  11. I thought the Manhattan Center was pretty stoked for Hogan, at least given the heat for most of the roster at this time. He recaps Money Inc. attacking Beefcake with a briefcase last week and establishes Jimmy Hart as a face manager. Says he's back as Vince's eyes pop out of his head. Calls out Brutus who's nose is bandaged and eyes are bruised.
  12. Tatanka turns a backdrop suplex into a sunset flip for the pin on HBK. Pretty action filled finishing stretch.
  13. Not much one can add to the discussion here. Just hard shots throughout while effectively delivering monster vs. babyface and making great use of a gimmick that can often be a hindrance. I still think Vader was the best big ever at bumping and selling while not compromising his credibility or aura. I loved Vader bailing only for Sting to use the strap to pull him into the post and then slam him him on the floor. Sting looking to touch the posts while on the outside is a cool wrinkle to this match. Sting's fiery comeback with the koppo kick, German and DDT was awesome. Throw in the visual of Sting lugging Vader's carcass around and blood from both and you've got an all time gimmick match, as well as a finish that keeps both strong without feeling like a cop out. One of the 2 best matches of the year's first quarter. ****1/2
  14. This show opened fantastically and got progressively worse. Kane/Ryback was more nonsense. If you don't want to push Ryback that's fine, make that decision and either don't feature him or job him out quickly. If you do, don't waste 10 minute of his and my time in a match that doesn't help him. Maybe I was incapable of enjoying the main event because I've just about washed my hands of Wyatt, but on the other hand my expectations for him are so low it shouldn't be too hard to exceed them. That didn't happen here. I think Ambrose is great, and maybe its just the taint of Wyatt's stink, but his overdone facials and twitchy selling weren't doing it for me tonight either. I can't help but think Rumble will be good because Cena/Brock almost has to be very good at worst and the Rumble should be enjoyable. At a minimum, there's certainly a high level of intrigue to see if they stick with Reigns, and if so, what the plan is to heat him up for Mania. I didn't like his promo last night. Was it blooper reel bad? Not at all. But it was also not remotely a performance that has be excited to watch someone crowned in the biggest moment at the biggest show of the year. Its a high standard.
  15. Cena/Rollins felt like an okay version of your typical Raw main event most of the way. The Big Show run in was dreadful, but Reigns was a nice surprise and good spot for him, even if I still believe its way too late to heat him up enough for Lesnar at Mania. Solid but not as good as I hoped for.
  16. If we get a True Blood finish to the show I'm not going to be happy.
  17. I read the paper during the stairs match. Every time I looked up I was glad I was reading the paper. Would have only been interested if Rowan turned it into a shoot and actually put Show out for good.
  18. Mizdow is a riot. I don't know when the act will get stale, but hopefully not before he gets a split and Mania match out of it. As far as whether the ladder match is memorable, that depends on tomorrow and the weeks that follow. If its built upon, it will matter. If its not acknowledged in any fashion at all and doesn't impact how either are booked, it'll just be a very good match on a given ppv.
  19. I watched the Smothers/Candido ladder match from the '94 yearbook earlier today. Thought this was a lot better. Obviously a lot less wrestling, but they had creative ladder spots, violence and blood. MORE!
  20. That match was awesome. They even seemed to go out of their way to film the blood. Totally had me buying the finish on the 1-2 climbs before the end. Loved it. If anything else approaches or tops that this show will be a great, great show.
  21. I rewatched the second half of the show which confirmed my initial thought which was that I enjoyed Charlotte/Banks more than Zayn/Neville. Huge Zayn fan and think he can do well at he next level, but Neville doesn't connect at all. He seems utterly emotionless at all times, which only works at those times like the spot during the 4 way at least big show where that was what the situation called for. It seems like he jumps from spot to spot and moreso than others who fall prey to that it really takes me out of things. Not to say I didn't enjoy the match, because I did, but not at the level it seems many did. Now the finish, post-match coronation and angle? All money. Loved it all. I almost fear that pulling the trigger on Zayn/Owens now rules it out on the big stage but won't fret about that too much right now and will simply enjoy it.
  22. I will always love the love for this generally unheralded bit of greatness. There are better matches both within and and without joshi on the year, but this held up as a personal favorite because of just how far it went above and beyond expectations.
  23. Not quite sure it would've generated mainstream buzz, but there were probably plenty of non-WWE events or shows he could've appeared at that they found a way to work into Raw that would've made it a really big deal to the core audience. Problem there is with the timing, I'm not sure you could've stretched it out enough to capitalize on it. Summerslam was too soon to bring him back, Survivor Series was already Rock's return and that means you're pushing it to the Rumble if you want to give it a real chance to draw. On the other hand, much as I like Rey, Summerslam wasn't about to do boffo business with him on top.
  24. vs. Mutoh '01 G1, vs. Suzuki at the '13 Tokyo Dome. w/ Iizuka vs. Kawada & Fuchi '00.
