We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!
concrete1992 replied to concrete1992's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Chad from Where the Big Boys Play and Jason from Wrestlespective join Sam for a podcast where he can’t exactly remember what happened. There’s a lot of talk about how it is okay to fall behind in wrestling. Watch what makes you happy. Also we talk about the PWO2K and why the project is such a hoot. http://wrestlingwithwords.com/we-dont-know-wrestling-keep-up-kids/ -
This match poses a bit of a problem for me as everything I rate *** or above goes on a spreadsheet and I will try to do a write up for. It doesn't take much to get to *** as it isn't entirely based on quality and at that point based on whether I care to remember it when I go back to that given year. I'm not sure that match did anything that makes me care if I remember it when i go back to this year. I mean it was fine and the Mr. Mexico dive was DEFINITELY something but never felt like anyone hit that one move or sequence that made me go "Oh, yep, there we go" or something along those lines. A match that felt "just there" which sucks because trios matches are probably my favorite type of matches. Zumido's corkscrews were a hoot though.

The problem with this discussion is Magnum vs. Tully was the first match I saw that I went "This is the greatest of all time" and that stuck. I can watch other great matches but there is a personal attachment to that match I simply can't replace. It probably turned me into the type of fan that goes onto PWO and other places down the line. One day I hope to sit down and figure this out. Can I remove that nostalgia? Not a clue but I'm hoping.

We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!
concrete1992 replied to concrete1992's topic in Publications and Podcasts
It back http://wrestlingwithwords.com/podcast/we-dont-know-wrestling-calling-it-now-moty/ Match of the Year podcast without actually talking about the matches we think are Match of the Year Candidates? They said it could be done but it would be really dumb BUT WE DID IT ANYWAY! Joined this week by Dylan Hales and QT Moody for a real wonderful discussion about how we go about thinking of our MOTY lists. Every year Voices of Wrestling does a MOTY poll and I think it is a tremendous resource as well as a perfect opportunity to put over matches that might not be put over otherwise. That sort of comes up in our discussions as well as what we consider when thinking about our Match of the Year ballots. Give it a listen! -
Looking up posts now where someone calls someone else respected in the industry!

I'll be real, Switch has a good chance of not happening.

Recently I have started getting back into the groove of writing little match reviews/recaps/thought barfs. When I first started doing The Decade in Indie posts it was going to focus solely on the US/Canada indie scene from 2010-2019 (only reviewing matches that were from at least two numbered years prior so if something happened at any point in 2015 I consider it fair game currently). Recently though that has been expanded globally as I see myself focusing more on this wrestling than I do 2017 pro wrestling. Didn't want to limit myself while still at least maintaining that the "project", a term I use loosely, remains independent wrestling focused. Any matches you would like me to look at? Let me know. Below is what has been done so far with new posts dropping on Mondays and Wednesdays for the time being (Might start sprinkling in "bonus" posts as they start stock piling on me) http://wrestlingwithwords.com/the-decade-in-indie/ The Decade in Indie is a little project of Sam’s where he reviews indie matches from the 2010’s. That’s it. You will probably see a trend where I lean towards the more obscure but feel free to throw mention on a Twitter if there is a match you would like to see get discussed Takahiro Oba & Takeshi Ono vs. Kengo Mashimo & Manabu Suruga (FUTEN 5/30/10) Jeremy Wyatt vs. ACH (MetroPro 2/4/12) Chris Escobar vs Damien Wayne (VCW 6/2/12) Team Beyond vs. Team InterSpecies Wrestling (Beyond 5/7/10) Bandido Jr. vs. B-Boy (JAPW 1/23/10) Tommy Dreamer vs. Jerry Lawler (NWA ME 3/17/12) Corey Hollis, Chip Day & Chiva Kid vs. Drew Myers, Trevor Lee & Ben Tyler (PWX 2/25/12) Team BDK vs. Team CHIKARA (CHIKARA (1/31/10) Flip Kendrick & Louis Lyndon vs. Davey Vega & Mat Fitchett (Beyond 10/2/11) AKUMA vs. Alex Colon vs. Jonathan Gresham vs. Rich Swann vs. Ruckus vs. Ryan McBride (CZW 12/11/12) Roy Wilkins vs. Trevor Lee (CWF MA 11/1/14) Sami Callihan vs. Kyle O’Reilly (IPW 1/1/11) Claudio Castagnoli vs. Ricochet (PWG 9/4/10) Aeroform vs. Jollyville F**k-Its (Beyond 11/5/10) JT Dunn vs. Hallowicked (WrestleJam 9/7/13)

[2000-01-30-BattlARTS] Naoki Sano vs Minoru Tanaka
concrete1992 replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
Will comment on the match but the comments leading up to this reminded me that there was a Best of Japan 2000s project. What a time. Bless Ditch. Hope to come back to this with actual thoughts now so this post isn't detrimental to discussion.- 14 replies

You are forgetting a NXT call up could be the person too on Raw. There are rumours that Joe is coming up in a big role for Mania, so maybe Joe vs Taker? That sounds like a bad idea right there. Would I watch if BattlArts Taker shows up? Totes but if Cena isn't getting the match then Joe definitely shouldn't.

Not to pile on but unless we are complaining that companies cracked down on pirating because they are offering almost all of their content on individual services I'm not sure what the issue is. There probably are too many services out there and I wouldn't recommend subscribing to any INDIVIDUAL promotions unless that is your complete and utter jam. For my money Highspots is delivering by far the best value with Beyond Demand probably not too far behind. Highspots obviously has the systems in place to get a lot of content on their service that is both new and old, appealing to more niches than most. You have all their shoots, the latest PWX shows which has notable indie talents, PWG shows from a year ago and before, plus other random indies that are either current or from the 2000s. Beyond despite only being an individual promotion puts out the raw footage of their shows incredibly quick and eventually follow up with the full edit. The raw footage feels like something not a ton of promotions do and I actually think it puts a different perspective on some matches. They have also put up interviews with Biff Busick and Keith Lee to add variety to their content. In my eyes, if you are going it alone then they are the prime promotion to look at for guidance on how it should be done. You also have wXw Now but I think what holds them back is their footage being available on Highspots. I agree on the whole though, we have to start seeing some consolidation from promotions that don't have a big footprint. You look at Powerbomb and if that service comes out and works then it will give a variety of promotions some shine. Honestly, I think FloSlam is doing a rather bad job at that but does appeal to the people that I want "live wrestling".

We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!
concrete1992 replied to concrete1992's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Okay, did a quick podcast. Trying to get some feedback. Have been running out of JUICE as far as finding a good direction for the podcast that is both fun to listen to and fun to do. http://wrestlingwithwords.com/podcast/we-dont-know-wrestling-quicky/ Sam here doing a real short solo #WDKW. Honestly, looking for feedback on what you want to hear (non-Fray) from We Don’t Know Wrestling going forward. Want to make sure everyone is having a good time with it. -

Old school vs. New school
concrete1992 replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Fun show but wanted to let you know that podblast isn't a thing. It is just a podcast. -
Yes. This is always going to be the talking point. I think it holds up. I know you can only take the word of so many wrestlers when they say this exact thing "If MMA was popular when I was around I would have done that instead" but still, think there is a kernel of truth to it.

1) I love the inductees. Legit like someone at WWE took a poll of the most underappreciated workers and they got this list. 2) Who are the remaining headliners? How many years do they have left for the gimmick? HHH, Taker, Rock, Goldberg, Cena in 5-10 years...who else could they do?

We Don't Know Wrestling SUPERTHREAD!
concrete1992 replied to concrete1992's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Grimmas doesn't even plug the show smh I bring in the new year with Steven Graham and it quickly goes to the garbage. We talk about the PW2K0 and other stuff that no one could possibly care about because this podcast is for me. Not a great way to gain new fans but there is always next time. http://wrestlingwithwords.com/podcast/we-dont-know-wrestling-bring-on-the-year/ -
Importance of movesets / escalation of violence

I understand the point but looking at Kevin Owens' Wikipedia page probably isn't where the discussion should start. -
Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?

Why March? -
Not sure if this is relevant but anything non-wrestling I'm willing to throw stars around a lot quicker.

To add to this, I think there is perhaps more of a reluctance among many fans these days to be a detractor of something well-loved, and less people interested in engaging those detractors. A lot of Wrestling Twitter folks are more into shared enjoyment than debating and dissecting. Those kind of fans have really always been the majority in real life, but the internet didn't lend itself to that kind of fandom until recently. I'd argue a lot of people want to be detractors but without the debating and dissecting because Twitter doesn't lend itself to that.

Wrestling is all about the matches bby! EDIT: Also, feels weird that this conversation is taking place on PWO which very much feels like a place where you can talk about older wrestling with a lens you might not see on websites that review a ton of the modern product. Just seems a bunch of people who feel disenfranchised with modern wrestling and modern wrestling culture don't have to feel threatened (not the best word but I'm not sure what else to use) here.
