My thoughts on this. Dory moves around great for a 23 year veteran, taking all the armdrags and arm work smoothly. Like Dory's oversell of Mil's double chop and his arm being stretched when he tries to go for the tag. They actually get across the psychology of why arm work is a smart idea in a tag match very well. Terry tags in and we see his famous comedy punch selling. We see all Terry's comedy bumps compressed into two minutes. Ron Starr comes in and he looks ten years older than the Martimes footage I saw two years older than this. Takes good bumps though, the heels are really ping pong balling it for the faces. 6 way brawl and the match is thrown out. This was fun, but the faces really ate up the heels throughout. 2 and a half stars

Dave, Nick and Rob are back with more thoughts on pro wrestling old and new. First up from Wrestle Kingdom 10 it's Shibata vs Ishii then a one hour look at Montreal wrestling. On the docket, Rob tries to figure out the strong style, Eddie Creatchman entertains the gang, Nick realizes Andre the Giant is a comedy worker, Ronnie Garvin - the secret inspiration for Bart Simpson, Dave discovers the most lethal hairspray in human history and more. Feedback and thoughts always welcome! I don't see any reason why there won't be Hogan matches. Hogan-Flair from Dayton sounds like a no brainer assuming the set is mostly Superstars/Challenge taping dark matches.

Letters From Center Stage
thebrainfollower replied to cheapshot's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Uncensored 96 was the first WCW PPV I ever bought (the other was Starrcade 96 then a friend of mine got a box, which we did as well around April 98). At the time my closest friend had gotten back into wrestling via Monday Nitro because his guys (Hogan, Savage, etc) were headlining again. We were both so baffled by this card that we decided to give WCW a shot. Coupled with a declining interest in the WWF we thought this might spark a new tradition. And with the exception of Regal-Finlay this is a pretty awful card from top to bottom. I don't recall Konnan vs. Eddie Guerrero, maybe I should give that another shot. But we taped it so I did watch this THING quite a few times afterwards for a laugh and would bust it out in college if someone wanted to watch a bad wrestling match. So it has some special memories for me.- 57 replies

Letters From Center Stage

If it were Downtown Abby I would understand it (though the NWO invading the abby would rule) but as you guys said it's Baywatch. It's not exactly high concept art itself.- 57 replies

Great third episode JT and Allan. Not sure how I know this but Hasslehoff was indeed irate his show was featuring Hulk Hogan and wrestling and refused to do any scenes with them, hence the split storylines.- 57 replies

The gang is back to watch a great sampler of Championship Wrestling from Florida and then Final Deletion 2. Topics discussed include Mania 33, Gordon Solie - too boring for Dave, Bill Watts playing a jerk, the funniest Dusty quote ever, Chief Screaming Chicken, Jack Brisco as the Young Lions, the biggest chop in history and a whole lot more. Please note, for some reason I could not get the audio and video to completely sync and believe me I tried. So if you have never watched this footage before, we spoil stuff 20 seconds or so afterwards. Feedback and thought are always welcome! This is THE show to start this podcast with as it's a real blast.

Southeastern/Continental Championship Wrestling
thebrainfollower replied to goc's topic in Pro Wrestling
I noticed you put up a ton of 89 goc, very much appreciated. Is there not a lot of 88 out there? -
Great points on Hogan. He definitely slows down a lot through the summer of 87 in terms of match quality but I would argue it's not until he comes back from filming NHB that he really goes into uber formula mode. But a great deal of even that is not on Hogan it's due to a much more standardized house show card from 88 on.

Place to Be Podcast Thread

Does sound like a fun show. No one could ever replace the Titans completely for me, but listening to these is a total blast though I have only listened to the 85 rewind ones. -
Southeastern/Continental Championship Wrestling
thebrainfollower replied to goc's topic in Pro Wrestling
Have had this happen to me. Going to be challenging Wade Williams (a guy not related to wrestling in any way shape or form, but the strike isn't wrestling related either) over it. The funny thing was, I had started with the first one you put up from 86, but now that the 85 stuff is up it's time to go back. -
As weird as this sounds, I feel like WCW had to have this kind of year. A year where not much good happened and EB just sort of figured out what NOT to do and realizing he needed another direction. However much some hate it, bringing in Hogan certainly worked.

Thanks goc. I downloaded em all and am really looking forward to watching all this great stuff. -
Thanks for the suggestions all. I put together the footage today, two 75 minute (roughly) episodes covering the best of the Bock.
-
I'm trying my best. It's a challenge. He basically would have to be bribed for me to make one episode about Jerry Lawler.
-
I almost hate to ask this, but one of my fellow podcasters is definitely a MOVES guy. Is there any match where Bock goes Harley Race and busts out a bunch of varied offense? I know that's not really his style but trying to adapt a bit to what they like.
-
I adore Bock's punch promo against Lawler, will def include that.
-
Not a mispronunciation but I always laughed at Jesse needing Gorilla to tell the Rougeaus apart.
-
For some reason my pc wouldn't play NWA Classics in any browser, otherwise I'd have it in a flash. thanks for the input. Come Saturday I have 7 hours of the Bock to sift through and make some choices. I also decided to include him vs. Matt Murphy. I think it will visually get over the point of just how long a career Nick had and how amazing it is he was able to work so many styles and produce such quality work by showing something from such a "bygone" age.

One hour WCCW primer - advice sought
thebrainfollower replied to thebrainfollower's topic in Pro Wrestling
Good point. I forgot about that. I figured something with Brody would make sense, maybe a tag -
Thanks. Am going to watch all this tonight and tomorrow. Appreciate the help a ton.

Much like Florida, I am swamped with footage from WCCW and trying to prepare a one hour primer on the history of the promotion. I want to include promos and character segments as well as matches. There's so much though, which to pick is a bit hard. I am thinking the Freebirds heel turn and Jimmy Garvin valet for a day are must haves but I'd also like to get Kevin, Kerry, Gart Hart, Kabuki, Devastation Inc, Brody and the Dynamic Duo in there as well. Any ideas on what I might include in a one hour WCCW primer? Thanks in advance.

Looking for some help here from the Bock experts. Thinking about making him the 2nd wrestler focus (Buddy Rose was the first) of a podcast I'm doing. I would want about 2 hours of matches and promos. What would everyone suggest I include? I kind of want to avoid the Hennig 1 hour match since that would take up so much of the time. Looking for quality and variety. Thanks
-
Dave, Nick and Rob are back with a look at wrestling both old and new. On the docket tonight is Nakamura's NXT debut vs. Sami Zayn (audio only) as well as the 2nd part of our look at Buddy Rose's epic 1983 face turn. The boys riff on poor Don Owen, marvel at Curt Hennig, credit BJH for progress and in general just have a blast watching this. Feedback and comments are always welcome and thanks for watching We will also have our first 4 episodes uploaded as a podcast by the end of the week as well as our twitter account set up. Thanks to all for those suggestions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4SjqA__iF8&t=6s

I don't think I've ever heard "interesting sounding" and Kwang in the same sentence. There are so many possibilities here, I wonder if they did indeed save the tapes of all the TV tapings main events over the years.
