  1. This was tremendous. My first time seeing this and though I truthfully know very little about the backstory of this (ignorant as I am), the intensity and hatred really sold it as a big deal. A model of a big deal match.
  2. That entrance music! I realise it is deterministic to say so, but so far it's been clear from these independent matches which wrestlers were going to make it and which ones weren't. AJ is perhaps the best example of that so far, barring perhaps Low Ki.
  3. This was such an interesting match to see, even if it's not a good one. Necro certainly looks different to what I'm used to and it's odd to think that he already had a "reputation" even at this early stage (if the commentator is to be believed).
  4. Well, that rapping was better than "What's Up?", I guess. K-Krush does look decently polished here, so this was not a bad pick-up by the WWF at the time. The fact that he has not seemed to have become any more interesting in the years since is quite alarming though.
  5. Aww, this was fun. That Ki Krusher through the table really ought to have been the finish, or at least not included if Ki wasn't going over, as the end of the match was really anti-climactic after that. However, you can't fault the effort here and this was the right match for this audience.
  6. I liked this. Both guys did a really good job considering how green they were. So many WTF moments watching this, particularly the announcement of the MAE YOUNG match. I kind of want to see that now!
  7. This felt very training-school to me, particularly in the early going; almost as if they were doing stuff because "that's what wrestlers do at the beginning of the match". Having said that, it got more exciting later on. I have always wondered, though, how guys were ever supposed to get better when they were wrestling equally inexperienced opponents each night.
  8. Not much to add, but I really enjoyed this match. A very well laid-out match.

  10. I thought this was superb actually. Miho Wakizawa was really good in her role, looking forward to the next time we see her.
  11. While it was nowhere near the level of quality, this reminded me of those Lightning Kid vs Jerry Lynn matches from 1990. Kid reached WWF 3 years later and Lynn turned up in WCW for a while 5 years later. This comparison makes it even more striking that Danielson didn't have a run in a mainstream promotion in the entire period to be covered by PWO 2K. I think a recurring theme of this project will be how incredible it really was that so many great wrestlers were not picked up by WWE in their prime.
  12. This was grand. The type of gritty fight that Mexico does so well. It didn't quite reach a fever pitch at the end, which brings it down a little, but I loved the brutality of it all. ****
  13. Dug this one quite a bit. They complimented each other pretty well and Roddy was a good babyface here. ***1/2
  14. I felt this was a little dull up until the finishing stretch. It was a pretty good way to get the title off of Nakamura without damaging him and Bobby Roode still comes across strongly, even if the prospect of him as champion doesn't light my world on fire. ***1/2
  15. I thought the show was quite decent. The tag match was really well worked and Strong/Almas was a good match too. Nothing blow away and I'm not sure where NXT goes from here, but an easy watch.
  16. I agree that this was a great match. I especially liked the early exchanges with DIY having to make a herculean effort to get on top of the Authors. It was brought down a bit in my eyes by the synchronised offence and reversals towards the end, which felt a bit contrived. Other than that though, it's hard to imagine the AOP having a much better match than this. ***3/4

  19. Great stuff as always Pete! This was the first Yearbook I watched and it was a really great year. I actually thought WWF was pretty good in 92, at least in the first half, much better than the 1990 stuff I'm watching from them at the moment. I also thought Warrior was a lot more tolerable in 92 that at any other time in his career, although I completely agree that he was not someone the WWF should have been looking to build around at this time, so all's well that ends well...if you can call WWF's 93 "ending well".
  20. Wait, I don't get it. How is the sudden death period different from the normal match? Why not just have a 20 minute time limit? Not an amazing match, but would still kill for matches like this on weekly TV these days.
  21. 1) Satoru Sayama y Gran Hamada vs. Perro Aguayo y Baby Face (4/13/80) Very fun, all-action match. Hamada and Aguayo were particularly great. 2) Centurion Negro vs. Gran Hamada (2/14/82) Great mat work, well built. 3) El Canek vs. Don Corleone (2/14/82) I really liked Don Corleone's offence in this one. 4) Andre the Giant & Cien Caras vs. Alfonso Dantes, Herodes y Sangre Chicana (1981) Andre's spots were really fun, as was the rudos bouncing off him. 5) Tatsumi Fujinami vs. El Canek (6/12/83) Fine match, but not massively memorable.
  22. It most definitely was not a Twilight Zone situation. This is all so dumb.
  23. Hooray for Savage getting back into the main event scene. He's been so underused this year.
  24. Very solid match, even if it didn't have the hottest crowd in the world. Kobashi already looks like a potential top star and the Fantastics are really good in this as well. Really liked their constant communication with each other.
