Under-the-radar wrestling book recommendations
C.S. replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
I took a chance on the Justin Credible book by Kenny Casanova. I'll let everyone know how it is. I just finished it. It's not nearly as good as Guy Evans' Nitro book - of course not - but it's decent. Bischoff opens up about TNA, AEW, his loyalty to Hulk Hogan and Ted Turner, and his recent aborted WWE run as the "Executive Director" of Smackdown. Like Controversy Creates Cash, it's never the most exciting, dynamic read, but Bischoff is honest and pulls no punches. I haven't, but if you have a Kindle Unlimited membership, most of them are free to read that way. They seem like self-published books, with that entails. That doesn't necessarily make them bad, but based on the sample I read of one of them, it's basically just straight recaps. If that's your bag, go for it, but you can honestly find more in-depth show/match reviews and analysis here on PWO. -
@Dav'oh Edit: Five minutes later, I'm still laughing. Post of the year!
-
Me too. All of those are infinitely more interesting than Bryan vs. Nese.
-
Fuck Bryan's career wishes and choices. If I'm Tony Khan (and I'm not), they are irrelevant to me. If I'm @C.S. (and I am), they are irrelevant to me. What should matter to TK is making a shit ton of money with Bryan as a top act, instead of cooling him down to fucking igloo levels over the past year and a half. What does matter to the fans, myself included, is seeing one of our favorite wrestlers in matches and scenarios we care about. Tony Nese is not and never will be that. And yes, I realize Nese is not to blame - nor am I actually blaming him. Of course not! But this is part of a much bigger pattern and problem with how Bryan has been used.
-
You're right, which is why it infuriates most of us that whatever time he has left in the ring is being wasted in inconsequential matches against ham 'n eggers like Nese.
-
Except be a compelling on-screen character anybody give a shit about seeing every week. But yeah, sure, he does everything else well - just not the one thing that actually matters.
-
Tony "The Sleeping Pill" Nese belongs on Dark or at the Nightmare Factory training wrestlers, not in a major match against Bryan Danielson on AEW's top TV show - even if Bryan personally got on his hands and knees and begged Tony Khan to book him against Nese.
-
YEEEEEAH, he sucks!
-
Imagine them languishing on Dark or in ROH. *Shudder*

Did Braun tear his Hot Topic mom pants?
-
I FUCKING HATE BRAUN
-
No, he's always been on Smackdown. Top Dolla >>>>>>>>>>> Bray Wyatt, LA Knight, and Karrion Kross by miles. (Edit: Add Braun to that. He's the shits.)
-
Ronda returned at the Rumble, so it wouldn't be surprising if her contract was up.
-
Bray Wyatt and LA Knight may be my two least favorite acts on Smackdown not named Karrion Kross, so I'm glad the show is getting this WrestleCrap over with right away.
-
This would make Joe the biggest babyface in wrestling history.
-
By "isn't the most judgmental," I assume you mean "completely lacking in judgment." AAA sounds like a shitshow of a partner too.
-
Not exactly a good or professional partner for AAA then.
-
Man buns = HEEL This is the best thing to ever happen to Wardlow.

Sammy and Tay were stripped of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles after not showing up at AAA Night of Champions to defend them. https://www.wrestlezone.com/news/1336742-sammy-guevara-and-tay-melo-stripped-of-aaa-mixed-tag-team-championship-new-champions-crowned Any reason they didn't make an appearance? Blizzard? Injury? "That doesn't work for me, brother!"?

Colt Cabana is an infantile man-child. CageSide Seats: Dax Harwood didn’t like Colt Cabana mocking his accent, but never heard a bad word about him from CM Punk https://www.cagesideseats.com/aew/2022/12/28/23529672/dax-harwood-colt-cabana-mocked-accent-cm-punk-relationship-aew-all-out-brawl Not that I'm blaming Colt Cabana, but it's weird to think that almost all of AEW's problems are indirectly because of him - from the Hangman "Workers Rights" promo to C.M. Punk's "Gripebomb." Now we find out Colt made fun of a new co-worker's accent on said co-worker's first day on the job? Colt really was a pointless hire. He's the shits, over the hill, and immature to boot.

That sounds good in theory, but nothing about Gacy's act is remotely scary or creepy. Better than Bray Wyatt and House of Black? Sure. But that's an incredibly low bar to climb. Ava Raine is obviously going to be the breakout star of the group. Wouldn't surprise me in five years if Gacy is where Akira Tozawa is now.

What in the ever loving fuck are you talking about - and smoking?

It's sad, but like this documentary (and "30 for 30") pointed out, Richard Fliehr disappeared a long time ago - he has now fully inhabited the fictional Ric Flair persona. To be fair, Peacock has always looked better than WWE Network to me.
-
Anyone watch "Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair" on Peacock? It's definitely a WWE puff piece. No mention of Flair's various controversies (I guess that's what "Nature Boy: 30 for 30" and "Dark Side of the Ring" are for). It's basically hand-waved away with "I've done a lot of bad things in my life." But like all WWE docs, it shines with high production values and awesome archival footage. Bruce Prichard is fucking embarrassing though!
-
Which is understandable, but supposedly all he was there to do was "D-VON, GET THE TABLE!" for Bubba.
