Separate But Equal?: The ultimate goal of Feminism in wrestling
donsem43 replied to Luchaundead's topic in Pro Wrestling
I don't think that sexuality will ever be gone from wrestling for either women or men. It's just too easy to market attractive people to the masses. Even someone like Kana/Asuka is a more complicated example. Sure she has the most reasonable intergender matches in wrestling, but she's also had comedy matches based around her breasts and has several DVDs/photobooks that market her looks. I also think that there can be positives in this. If you market women like Asuka, Nia Jax, and even Bayley for their looks your sending out a positive message about body image, which is a lot better than just marketing women with their ribs sticking out and oversized breast implants as being the only people who are 'hot.' -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyjUiPAcZLU This is an all out, strait forward brawl. Somehow, Ozaki just shows up by herself so we're saved from this match being booked into oblivion. The start is great as Ozaki tosses to JWP belt out of the ring causing Nakajima to freak out. Then, someone brings the belt back to the ring so Oz just grabs it and whips it right into Arisa's face opening her up. Ozaki just keeps working the cut for the rest of the match so Nakajima white gear doesn't stay white for long. Arisa does some great babyface comebacks but Oz just cuts them off by grabbing a chain and throwing it right at her face. The finish does have a ref bump as Ozaki accidentally hits the ref with mist but it ends up working in a neat way as once the ref recovers she bumps into Ozaki cause Oz to eat a nasty forearm from Nakajima for the win. Not the prettiest match you'll see but still highly entertaining. ***3/4

Separate But Equal?: The ultimate goal of Feminism in wrestling

The NXT crowd did start calling Sasha 'ratchet'. I've been a fan of women's wrestling for about 15 years but I definitely wouldn't call myself a feminist because of that. -

Given how they are treated, it's pretty amazing that the women still have a strong connection with female fans like this. -
How do I get access to the video? This video is restricted. Try signing in with a Google Apps account. If you have something like a gmail or youtube account, login in with that username/password. If you still have that problem, you probably have some sort of content restriction on in your settings, just go and turn any of that stuff off. Hopefully that should fix it.

Pretty excited to see this pop up online since JWP pick this as 2014 match of the year and there hasn't been much Arisa pop up online from this year. I've never really cared for Leon as I usually find her to be a fairly spotty worker, but here I thought she was really good. She picks up the intensity early on, then starts to focus on Nakajima's back mixing in different spots like lucha subs and a spear into apron. Arisa sells the backwork incredibly well especially during her comebacks. During a sequence where she elbows out of a spider-german suplex attempt, then hits a mountain spike, a jumping DDT onto the apron, and a double-stomp off the top to the floor. Normally, 99% of workers would just rip through a sequence like this but Nakajima takes her time to make sure that she sells her back the whole time. The only real issue that keeps this match from being a true MOTYC is some sloppiness most notably at the finish as Arisa is off a bit hitting a dragon suplex at the finish and having to hit another one for the win. Otherwise, this was a spectacular, highly entertaining war. ****1/4 Links: Part 1, Part 2

I would buy Baba being influenced by American corporate imperialism not cultural.

This match was setup at the previous TV taping when Carmella won a battle royale for a title shot. They also played up the real life friendship between the two of them. I really liked how Bayley worked this match. She controlled most of the match but managed to find some nice ways to keep Carmella looking competitive. Also thought that Carmella's selling was very good throughout the match and the way that she built up to the back-to-back dives was tremendous. Realistically, this match was as good as you could hope for given Carmella's experience level. ***3/4

This match was on a show that was part of the Cauliflower Alley Club. Instead of trying to work a memorable epic, they keep things simple and work a straight forward easy to understand match in front of a crowd that was mostly unfamiliar with them. A great sampler of what the Stardom girls can do. ***1/2

I personally prefer using the Match Discussion Archive because I usually skim through full shows at best. Granted it's a bit out of the way due to how the board is laid out but it works better for people who come along later. They don't have to do a search and going sifting through long threads looking for others opinions but I'm not against anything that can create more discussion.

Oops! Sorry I didn't notice that.

People are taking too much of a big picture view of this. The politics of ranking pro wrestlers is a lot closer to the running of a kids sports team than the battle around any major social issue.

This channel has, for now, some of the big Stardom matches from the past year. If your looking for YT versions of 12/23/15 Satomura vs. Io, 1/17/16 Io vs. Hojo, and the underrated 9/23/15 Thunder Rock vs. Jumonji Sisters match they're here.

This is the tag title match that was setup after Matsumoto trash-talking at the end of the last Korakuen Hall show. They don't mess around here, during a breakdown after the intial feeling-out, Hiroyo grabs Iwatani off the top rope for a powerbomb on the apron while Kagetsu lines up Io along the ring post and starts drilling her with kicks. The challengers then turn their focus to Iwatani and this allows Mayu to show off some awesome selling. The thing I like the most about her selling in this match is that she isn't instantly back to normal after tagging out, if she gets back involved too early she pays for it. That being said Hiroyo Matsumoto is the real star of the match. She lives up to her "Lady Godzilla" nickname as she is just a monster here. She's great at using her strength to count both Mayu's and Io's flashy offense, plus bringing some really nasty strikes to the table. This is the best women's match of the year so far, and if your a Stardom World subscriber, pretty much makes this month's payment worth it by itself. ****1/2

I have no problem with people leaving wrestlers from a whole genre off of their lists if they don't like the style. I've been a joshi fan long enough to see people try it out then say it's not for them. That's all I really ask people to do. I think its silly to be upset that people didn't watch someone that you ranked highly. This isn't something like sports where you have solid metric to back up your argument, you just have what your opinion on what you saw. What the real goal of a list like this should be is to introduce different workers that hopefully causes others to want to check them out, even more than the nomination process. The nice thing about this board is that it's open to all types of wrestling, so it's disappointing to see people scolding others for not watching certain styles/wrestlers because it kinda defeats what the ultimate goal of the list should be.

This is the last hurrah of the team of Sera and Narumiya, who had a long run with these same titles in 2014, as Maki was close to retirement. Was really impressed with Sera, as I really enjoyed her 2014 work but she wandered off the radar a bit in 2015. Enjoyed her wobbly leg selling, especially on Nakajima's strikes. The match is essentially a short, action packed sprint but not at too quick a pace that any sort of selling is ignored. There are moments of sloppiness that does effect some of the big spots and double teams but nothing that hurts the momentum of the match. Best Friends continue to be a highly entertaining tag team. ***3/4

This pretty much tells the tale on joshi workers. Half of that list is women with only one getting less than 30 votes. It looks like anyone who voted for them put them high on his/her list. Compare that Shoot Style/World of Sport/Lucha where it only seems like certain well-known workers, comparatively speaking, got strong support.

Who are the Top 10 CHOPPERS of all time?
donsem43 replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
BTW, that picture wasn't a troll post, I just love the contrast of it compared to the rest of the pictures in the thread. Kairi Hojo does have the best chops currently. I just love how she throws her whole body behind them. It's like watching a baseball player swing a bat. -
I'm more interest on just the number of ballots that he ends up on more than where he finishes.

I hate the forced brawling up to the entrances. It never feels natural but tacked on yet it happens at least once at every Korakuen show.- 9 replies
