WAVE can have some shows that are pretty loaded with talent. Their main problem is that the booking is aimless. There is no real storylines, and their titles don't mean anything. They usually book short matches that are worked in a fairly spotty style. I'm taking a wait a see approach with this because the first new show they put up has clipped matches, which is bullshit for a streaming service. I can understand older shows being clipped due to not saving the footage but taping a show knowing your going to be starting a service like this up and still clipping matches is just dumb.

As per Stardom's English twitter account, Stardom World is making some changes in July: Apparently another joshi group, Pro Wrestling WAVE, is also setting up a streaming service soon.

Nominating: Io Shirai vs. Mayu Iwatani (Stardom 5/15)
-
This is the title match that was setup after Iwatani won the Cinderella tourny a couple of weeks earlier. The match really comes off as a more cohesive version of the Io/Hojo match in January. Here, they do a much better job of mixing the heavy striking with the big moves. By the finish you really feel that Io won a war while Mayu managed to truly establish herself as a true rival in defeat. ****1/2

This is the final to Stardom's Cinderella tournament, which is a one-night tourny where the matches have a 10 minute time-limit plus the option of winning via throwing your opponent over the top rope. This gets heated right off the bat as after Hiroyo gets knocked to the outside, Iwatani takes too long to follow up allowing Hiroyo to hurl a chair at her. She then quickly follows up by powerbombing her on the apron. The match turns into a bunch of bomb-throwing but they never forget to put over everything with their selling. I really wish that they hadn't gone with the battle royal style finish, even though it was well worked, since that was the only time that the teased that type of finish. ****

This is a match for Stardom's six-women titles pitting Threedom (Io, Iwatani, Hojo) versus the Rookies (Watanabe, Kyona, Mimura.) The thing about this match that I liked the most was how the Rookies were able to earn their offense throughout the match. Usually in this type of setting, veteran(s) vs. rookies, they get their openings for offense through the arrogance of the vets. Even during the finish, it never feels like Threedom just flip the switch and put the Rookies away instantly. It comes off as them having earned their win. ***1/2

Thread right here.

The official line is that she initially left due to a "family emergency" and was suppose to come back after a month or so but never did so they ended up firing her. I think her parents freaked out over the Yoshiko/Act Yasukawa shoot incident on this same show and talked her out of being in wrestling.

To be honest this match is much better if you watch it with some context. Emi was one of the original founders of Ice Ribbon but ended up leaving for "personal reasons," leaving Fujimoto to take over as head trainer/face of the promotion. Emi made her surprise return to the promotion a few weeks earlier as the mystery partner for Takahashi. Also, Nanae has a budding rivalry with Nakajima that started in her SEAdLINNNG promotion and carried over to this. Plus, this match came together after the initial match between Best Friends and Stardom's Thunder Rock fell apart. Anyway, the actual match starts off with a mat exchange between Nakajima and Takahashi, but after that it just turns into a slugfest. Sakura gains control over Fujimoto simply by chopping the hell out of her. Eventually the match is worked like a tag combining two singles feuds as anytime Arisa gets in the ring and goes right after Nanae, likewise with Tsukka and Emi. The finish does turn into a bit like the typical joshi tag finish with a ton of saves, but it works because of the story they established with Fujimoto surviving and overcoming her former mentor. A really awesome match. ****1/4

Nominating: Tsukasa Fujimoto/Arisa Nakajima vs. Emi Sakura/Nanae Takahasi (Ice Ribbon - 5/4) I'll get a write up done later this week. I don't have internet on my desktop at the moment.

Viper is more like Earthquake than Vader. She's not really athletic enough to have a really flashy offense.

That channel just posted 3 Azumi Hyuga title matches vs Amazing Kong, Kaori Yoneyama, & Kayoko Haruyama so if you're looking to check her out because of GWE now is a good time.

They also got raided pretty hard after Mania. Who would have thought that Crews, Corbin, and the Vaudevillans would all be up on the main roster by now, while Balor and Bayley are still in NXT? Of course they could get away with having those two work different tours but they don't trust Bayley to headline a house show by herself. People love to complain about Asuka working too stiff.

Bayley vs. Asuka (NXT Take Over: Dallas, 4/1) - YES
-
Pretty simple story here as the beloved champion takes on the dangerous undefeated challenger. This does get off to a slow and even awkward start, (Asuka stiffs Bayley with a forearm after their first lockup.) Once they they settle down, they do get into a nice groove with each other. I do like that Bayley went right at Asuka and never showed any fear but that does cost her at times as she gets out-struck and outclassed on the mat. She does adjust and learns to pick her spots which leads to some nice counters. Also, I enjoyed the announce team as both Phillips and Graves put over both of the matchup plus point out little stuff like Bayley trying to use submissions that had got her wins in previous title matches. Overall, an incredibly well done title match the is different from the typical fare you get from the WWE. ****1/4

MY NAME IS SUE!!!! HOW DO YOU DO???!!!???!!! -
I love that Okabayashi refuses to change his typical mode of attack just for Hama. As a result, his pride ends up almost costing him the match at times. I guess there's a reason that they call it BJ Strong not BJ Smart. Hama is really great at using his weight to make his offense look extra effective. The crowd reaction to every moment that Hama squishes Okabayashi is fantastic. Maybe not one of the best matches from this year, but definitely one of the most fun to watch. ****

The time for talk is over! The time for action is now!!! Sorry, I couldn't help myself hence the spoiler tag in case someone does get offended. That's from today's Ice Ribbon show and as soon as I saw it I thought of this thread. -
Actually that would be a great way to nominate a match, by giving a link to the thread they created for it with the comments in there. Do you mean something like this? Nominations: Mayu Iwatani vs. Evie (Stardom 2/21) Meiko Satomura vs. Syuri (Sendai Girls 3/11) Thunder Rock vs. Matsumoto & Kagetsu (Stardom 4/2) Meiko Satomura vs. Aja Kong (Sendai Girls 4/8)

I don't think that sexuality will ever be gone from wrestling for either women or men. It's just too easy to market attractive people to the masses. Even someone like Kana/Asuka is a more complicated example. Sure she has the most reasonable intergender matches in wrestling, but she's also had comedy matches based around her breasts and has several DVDs/photobooks that market her looks. I also think that there can be positives in this. If you market women like Asuka, Nia Jax, and even Bayley for their looks your sending out a positive message about body image, which is a lot better than just marketing women with their ribs sticking out and oversized breast implants as being the only people who are 'hot.' -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyjUiPAcZLU This is an all out, strait forward brawl. Somehow, Ozaki just shows up by herself so we're saved from this match being booked into oblivion. The start is great as Ozaki tosses to JWP belt out of the ring causing Nakajima to freak out. Then, someone brings the belt back to the ring so Oz just grabs it and whips it right into Arisa's face opening her up. Ozaki just keeps working the cut for the rest of the match so Nakajima white gear doesn't stay white for long. Arisa does some great babyface comebacks but Oz just cuts them off by grabbing a chain and throwing it right at her face. The finish does have a ref bump as Ozaki accidentally hits the ref with mist but it ends up working in a neat way as once the ref recovers she bumps into Ozaki cause Oz to eat a nasty forearm from Nakajima for the win. Not the prettiest match you'll see but still highly entertaining. ***3/4

The NXT crowd did start calling Sasha 'ratchet'. I've been a fan of women's wrestling for about 15 years but I definitely wouldn't call myself a feminist because of that. -

Given how they are treated, it's pretty amazing that the women still have a strong connection with female fans like this.
