  3. Given the way Angle's life has gone, probably did Stephanie a huge favor too.

    Women in the WWE

The biggest problem that the WWE has with women is their inability to consistently develop solid characters and give them good storylines. Over the last decade they show flashes of some of the women having good characters and had them in feuds that got decent TV/PPV time. The problem is there clear gaps in between those feuds that showed that they had clearly no idea or interest in the women and that, more than anything that had to do with match quality, ended up being reflected by the audience. While I'm a big Sasha Banks fan, I don't think the current women's roster is really any better than what they had in the late 2000's. You could take 6 women from that time and build just as good if not better women's division than what you could at this moment. So talent has never been an issue. Didn't they do this with Beth Phoenix?

    Women in the WWE

The difference is that Sasha Banks looked closer to Savage than Warrior in her matches. Even if she bombs on the main roster that's not enough to write her off as a worker. Serena looked great after she got fired working indys and Japan. If injuries didn't pile up on her in the last few years she probably would have been resigned by now.

    Women in the WWE

John Cena improved a lot from when he first started being pushed as a main guy. I'm pretty sure he has the busiest schedule out of anybody. If Sasha is green then they better postpone the GWE poll till she's a polished vet.
  7. Balor vs Breeze If they want to make the how makeup deal really mean something then Balor needs to raise his in-ring work. Otherwise, he just looks like he's going to a comic con cosplaying his own fanfic character. Tyler Breeze needs a fresh dance partner. I like him as a worker and the gimmick is awesome, but he never seems to have matches that stand out. A feud with Solomon Crowe could be really good, but a step down career wise. Every WWE show needs a "Chinlock City" sign. Women's Tag Pretty much filler. Didn't really advance the Bailey/Emma feud. Teased Charlotte/Dana but that could really expose Charlotte and they're really trying to protect her. Dana looks like somebody who's more interested in her entrance and poses than her in-ring work. Corbin vs Rhyno It will be interesting to see how patient they are with Corbin. He looks like a guy they keep talking themselves into keeping but there is no guarantee that he'll get any better or worse than what he is now. Tag Titles So, the storyline leading up to this was centered around Carmella. Then, when they actually have the match she's an afterthought. It would have helped the champs get over better if they worked a couple of spots with her but that's the problem with most WWE heels. They're only heels during promos and back stage stuff. Did love Enzo selling, especially after the hot tag. Love/hate the finish. Enzo's selling did make it plausible for little Alexa Bliss to take her out, but it did make Cass look like the biggest idiot in the room for literally leaving Enzo hanging to check on Carmella. Women's Title Sasha Banks... just WOW!!! I mean Becky Lynch was really good definitely not just along for the ride but it still felt like it was the Sasha show. Pretty much everything she did meant something, all of the little things she added worked. Hard to believe she gone from being a nobody to, arguably, a top 5 woman in the world. Only Meiko Satomura and Kana are clearly better. I'll have to rewatch some stuff but this might be the best women's match to happen in a U.S. promotion. Main Event Maybe it's just me, but this match seemed like it was designed to write Sami Zayn out of NXT. With Joe showing up, it looked like they were trying to replace the fallen hero with a new one. The match itself was fine, maybe hurt by what it had to follow. The brawling was good but it only felt like they were using it to move around to setup the next spot/sequence. If they're going to do these injury stoppages then they should get someone to play a ringside doctor. It would make it more clear to the audience as to what is going on rather than gang of refs/security they use to break up any other type of similar situation. I loved Joe's promo at the end but he's got to get rid of the 8 bit video game theme music.
  8. I like Bolshoi a lot, especially after she adopted more of a Yoshida-like matwork style. Still, I'd have a tough time putting her in the top 10 of women who were part of the JWP active roster during their careers. You could say she was underutilized, but she been running JWP since the early 2000's, so that's kind of a weird point to make.
  9. Fans throwing streamers during intros, especially when it's a big match with two really over workers and the fans just bury them when the ring announcer calls his/her name.
  10. Michael Cole yelling "He's going to Wrestlemania!" sounds so hollow when anyone who knows anything about the business side knows that they're going to try and get as many people on the roster as they possibly can.
  11. It's the right move if they go for it. Irregardless of how hurt Zayn is, he's probably on the main roster sometime this summer anyway. That leaves a big hole at the top of the card that I'm not really sure that either Balor, Itami, or a face-turned Breeze could fill. Joe's recent ROH run showed that he could probably get himself into that spot rather quickly, if allowed to. Anyway, if your planning to watch Unstoppable, you should check out this week's show. Just a great "Go Home" show from start to finish. From Corbin vs Crowe's stiff shots and crazy bumping, to the combination of creative editing and dumb luck that allowed them to work Zayn's injury into the main event. Hell, Carmella had a really good promo that got her over without Enzo and Cass around. The only match I'm worried about is Banks/Lynch. If I was creative I'd be worried about the crowd wanting to turn Sasha face since Becky doesn't really have a character. I don't think the crowd will get behind her smiling babyface who's "living the dream" when she pretty much stole this title shot from Charlotte.
  12. The Devil vs. Chigusa match mentioned earlier in the thread should be something you check out. Some recent stuff that non-stereotypical Joshi: Azumi Hyuga's matches vs. Kaori Yoneyama (12/9/07) and Kayoko Haruyama (4/29/08), both Kana vs Meiko Satomura from Kana Pro (2/13/11 and 2/25/14),
  13. Amano must be in be shape because she never really did anything physical on the show. A real shame that she didn't get to go out on her own terms. Props to Ozaki, Kansai, and Aja though, this was the second retirement show in less than a week for them. They where in Chicago for Tomoka Nakagawa's retirement match a few days earlier. Also of note, Sonoko Kato and Chikayo Nagashima had their 20th anniversary match on the same show.
  14. Dash Chisako & Sendai Sachiko vs. Nanae Takahashi & Kairi Hojo - Sendai Girls 3/11/15 - Two fun teams have a super fun match. The Jumonji Sisters have a bunch of slick double teams and aren't afraid to sell like crazy. Takahashi & Hojo have a nice vet/rookie dynamic with some fun double teams of their own. They also manage to not go too long on the finish.
  15. This is an issue, Sendai Girls really only made TV maybe once or twice a year. Meiko does show up at Stardom every once and a while. Then there's the question of whether it gets put online or picked up by a tape dealer. Then there's the question of if it stays online (YouTube deleted a bunch of good joshi accounts in the last month).
  16. Each match is up on Youtube.
  17. I just want to see these guys take turns clubbing each other for 10 to 15 minutes. Plus, Zigger vs Bryan always has Dolph trying matwork. How often do you see that in a WWE match?
  18. The '95 Weekly Pro Tokyo Dome show.
  19. In the last few years, how many women have quit after having a notable run on TV? AJ is not the first, probably won't be the last. That being said I actually liked AJ. Her PPV match with Kaitlyn from was good, and she showed some potential there. Unfortunately, being a woman on the WWE main roster is probably the worst place to try to develop as a worker in all of wrestling.
  20. The Matthews vs. Nakagawa title match from the Shimmer show should be good. Nakagawa is retiring in a few weeks so she will probably go all out here. Melissa vs Havok looks good on paper but they probably do a tribute to the Melissa vs Wesna matches from a few years ago. Those matches were a real chore to watch.
  21. http://dai.ly/x2hvhwe : Traditional Japanese music, moody blue lighting, and a gold Batman costume!!! If your interested there's also a wrestling match too.
  22. http://youtu.be/hgji0As6Wbo FYI, this is a title unification match for the World of Stardom title and the JWP Openweight title. The matwork at the start of this is really awesome like a faster version of BattlArts matwork. It doesn't feel like they're killing time at all because it has a fierce, competitive edge to it the entire time. Then the two of them start pulling out some cool highspots. Shirai starts out with a dive that only finds the front row of chairs, she does manage to follow up later springboard plancha were she goes over the corner of the ring onto Nakajima. Meanwhile, Arisa breaks out a jumping DDT on the apron and a footstomp from the top rope to the floor. After that is when the match starts to fall apart though. They seem to fall out of sync with each other as Nakajima can't seem to figure out how to bump for an Implant Buster, while Shirai struggles to get into the right position for suplexes and rollups. This should have been a MOTYC, it was well on its way to be one but it just ended up flat at the finish. Definitely worth checking out for the first 2/3rds of it just be prepared to be let down by the finish. ****
  23. I think it works both ways depending on a person opinion of the promotion/style. For me, I really enjoyed Nakamura vs Ibushi from this year's Dome show but what kept it form being a MOYTC for me were problems that I have with New Japan's style in general rather than the performance of either worker. I've read some criticize tag matches for not fitting a "Southern Tag" style, while any match from Dragon's Gate would need a ridiculous amount of hype to get some people to watch it.
  24. A couple notes about this match. First, it's a High Speed Title match, which is usually work more like an MPro or DG style match than a usual joshi one. Second, the ref is wearing a GoPro camera strapped to his head, while this looks goofy it actually catches some good shots. For the match itself, it starts out as your typical vet/rookie match with Io controlling things. Koguma does manage to get control with a pretty awesome chain of spots. She gets knocked out to the floor and Shirai tries to follow up with a moonsault to the floor but Koguma grabs her ankle and yanks her down with Io smacking her head on the floor. She then follows that up with a tornado DDT off the apron and a plancha. After that, the match stays fairly competitive while still keeping the experience dynamic. Even when Koguma pulls off the upset it feels like she legitimately earned it rather than it coming of as a fluke win. Definitely a MOTYC that people should check out. ****1/2
  25. This was really good. I was surprised to see Kagetsu break out so many highspots as she usually sticks to the mat, but that double stomp to Kuragaki's arm was great. Kuragaki was pretty bullish with her power moves which lead to some nice looking bumps from Kagetsu. Just under MOTYC level for me but definitely something worth watching. ***3/4
