  1. Scooter has been claiming recently that Billy Corgan is going to shut down the NWA. When asked where this information was coming from, the former Netcop replied that the last NWA Powerrr show he'd reviewed had the lowest view numbers his blog had seen in recent months, and besides that, it's been 25 years since Smashing Pumpkins were big and Corgan has to be running out of money. A 15 second search on Google shows me that Corgan's net worth is $50 million.
  2. Never say never in wrestling. Just imagine Corny in AEW managing some old school "real" wrestlers against likes of the Riho, Janela, and Stunt. He might even see some appeal in playing an obnoxious Trump-like character who gets his comeuppance.
  3. If this isn't a work, it should be. Turn it into a meta-storyline based on cancel culture, trolling and populism with Cornette returning as a man wronged by political correctness who wants to "Make Wrestling Great Again."
  4. Scurli's logo reveal and the booting of Cole played like a bad NWO angle.
  5. RIP Uncle Ivan. A great bumper and bleeder. While he'll primarily be remembered as the guy who ended Bruno's long WWWF title reign, I'm also a fan of his smart tag team work for Crockett during the 80s.
  6. Thanks Rah. You've made my day. I'm shocked at how active Kerry was here. The few descriptions I'd read of this encounter made it seem like he basically stood in the ring while Adias bumped for him. Admittedly these descriptions were by Irv Muchnick and Scott Keith, not exactly the most unbiased or credible sources.
  7. Kerry Von Erich vs. Brian Adias (Fort Worth 2-2-87)
  8. This is my personal favorite as well. I was lucky enough to be at the Tokyo Dome to see this match live and I can tell you the crowd heat was insane. It felt like they were on the verge of rioting.
  9. If there's such a thing as a career killing win, I'd say it's Luger beating Windham at Great American Bash '91.
  10. Who knows, maybe it's still the same storyline. From buying Raw to buying presidency. I can see it now. "It's me America! It was me all along!"
  11. TSN was a premium cable channel until September 1989, when it was added to the basic cable package. I can't remember if the station was showing AWA at that point. It was definitely still airing on TSN earlier in the year.
  12. War helmet, license plate wearing Hulk is my favorite Hulk.
  13. I loved the Dungeon of Doom. Screw workrate. This was Hulk Hogan vs. a stable of monsters with elements from comic books and B horror movies thrown in. Everything about it was great: the vignettes, darkside Hulk with sword and mask, the monster trunk battle, the Ye-taay!
  14. Diesel vs. King Mabel at Summerslam 95. I dreaded this match like a prostate exam and it was even more of a bummer than I feared it would be. Vince McMahon has a complete brain fart and puts Oz against the big fat guy from Men On A Mission in the main event of his second biggest PPV of the year. What results is a 9 minute mess with more Irish Whips than a Dublin S&M shop. WCW were geniuses by comparison with Sid-Gigante, hiding two bums in a short gimmick match on the undercard.
  15. I can see an argument for Graham based solely on his being one of the most influential acts in the history of wrestling.
  16. I waited until Part II was posted before listening to both podcasts. These were excellent shows gentlemen, filled with good insight and some surprising picks and omissions from both of you. Your talk about someone being a greatest hits wrestler vs being an all-time great one has me rethinking my ballot at the eleventh hour.
  17. Kelly Kelly's
  18. The WWE's claiming that RAW is the longest running weekly episodic series in television history.
  19. The 6/99 Misawa-Kobashi is usually not atop most lists of their best matches what puts it over the top for you? While I agree that it's not their best together, the 99 match was the first KK-MM clash I saw and holds a sweet spot for me.
  20. 1. Steiner Brothers vs. Nasty Boys from Halloween Havoc 90 2. Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat (2 out of 3 falls) from Clash VI 3. Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Kenta Kobashi from 11/06/99
  21. The formation of the Megapowers.
  22. You're right... fixed. Also missing from the unanswered section is Stephanie McMahon.
  23. This thread is awesome! I want to see Dylan compare HHH to Stephanie.
  24. Sting vs. Ultimate Warrior in '98 WCW immediately comes to mind.
  25. Lex Luger. 1988: Luger feuds with Ric Flair throughout the second half of the year. His coming out on the losing end is the result of Flair's backstage power struggle with Dusty, as the Nature Boy refuses to put over Lex. 1989: Lex turns on Ricky Steamboat, but the feud is almost immediately aborted when WCW doesn't resign the Dragon. 1990: Luger is a late replacement for the injured Sting as Flair's opponent at WrestleWar. Luger fails to win the belt here and in a series of rematches after Flair again declines to drop the title to Lex, saying he had promised the belt to Sting instead. In the end, Luger again looks like a failure due to backstage politics. 1991: Flair has regained the belt following Sting's failed run on top, and is scheduled to finally put over Luger for the title at Great American Bash. Behind the scenes, Flair squabbles with WCW executive Jim Herd and their animosity escalates until he is fired without dropping the title. Luger ends up pinning Barry Windham to win the vacant championship, but his first World Title reign is permanently tarnished. 1993: Luger debuts in WWF as a heel, but is turned only a few months later and re-packaged as an all-american hero in the mode of Hulk Hogan to face the villainous Yokozuna. He spends weeks touring the country in the Lex Express petitioning for a title match at SummerSlam. The eventual clash ends with Luger winning by countout and looking like a buffoon by celebrating victory in the ring with the promotion's baby faces surrounded by balloons, streamers. This is all because Vince decided Lex not winning the belt here would build anticipation for a rematch in the future.
