The tone is set. Really puts off that big event vibe. Shamrock kicks things off with a win as he looks to establish himself as a contender. I thought Suzuki had it but Funaki showed some real intestinal fortitude. Beautiful sequence by Kido to comeback and beat Malenko. Kopylov brought his A game and gave Fujiwara a fight, which it seemed Fujiwara really respected. I would say Fujiwara is now cemented as a top guy. Awesome striking match between Yamazaki and Sayama. These guys really went at it. Yamazaki gets the big blow to put down Sayama. Looks like Sayama is going to have to regroup for 1989, while Yamazaki has some real momentum going. Man, Casemiro and Ruas look like some bad dudes. After their display, I think they won over the crowd. Speaking of winning a crowd over, the Soviets exceed all the hype and put on a wrestling showcase. I can't believe Karelin had enough strength and stamina to pull off that finishing suplex. That was impressive. Great match and I'm sure there's a lot of money for a rematch. The tag match was full of drama. The Russians overcome the odds and narrowly defeat the Koslowski's. I really like this tag team concept. Seems to keep things fresh and the action is non stop. I thought Han had excellent strategy against Maeda and fought a smart match. Maeda seems to be the Joe Montana of this world because he's the master of comebacks and pulling out wins in the end. Great match. Incredible main event as both Backlund and Takada more than delivered. I love the controversy at the end. This will create a lot of buzz. I think Maeda better make things right with Backlund. I wouldn't want Backlund as an enemy. Outstanding match! I'm still in awe at the stamina these guys have. This show really ended the year on a high note. Things will only get better in 89. Props to you and your writing. You put a lot of hard work into this. I appreciate that.

The stage is definitely set for WrestleCade. This card has it all. Big time feuds, title bouts, grudge matches and the last minute surprises were great. It was only a matter of time before Piper got back in the ring. Muraco is the perfect foe here. The Latin Connection is going to walk down Bad Street! The Nation get some muscle with Hughes, but Atlas more than evens things out. I think Gilbert and Morton might steal the show. Williams and Dibiase are awesome but can they stop the SST? Rhodes vs. Funk in a bullrope match, what else can I say. Spivey is on thin ice with the Horsemen and having Tully around adds a lot of intrigue. I'm really looking forward to the world title bout and the direction you go in 89.

Patera: Hey Gunslingers, I just want you to know that Brad and are really looking forward to a clean and competitive match with you at SuperClash. Just remember, the Olympians are all about sportsmanship. The Olympians exit the ring and walk up to the Gunslingers. The Gunslingers see right through these guys and stand up. The Olympians extend their hands and offer handshakes. The Gunslingers start questioning their actions in the battle royal. The Olympians are playing dumb. The Gunslingers tell them they'll see them at SuperClash and start to walk away. The Olympians attack them from behind! The Olympians put the boots to them and hurl them into the ring and follow. Rheingans executes a gut wrench suplex on Casey while Patera executes the swinging full nelson on Mantell. The Olympians exit. Rheingans grabs the mic from Resnick. Rheingans: It's obvious who the superior wrestlers are. The Olympians have officially declared the Gunslingers unfit to represent the AWA as champions. Rheingans tosses the mic to Resnick. Resnick: My goodness, things took an unexpected turn. All I can say is the Olympians better be ready for a fight. Well fans, I'll see you at SuperClash 3.

AWA Preview Show Saturday, December 30th From the McNichols Arena, Denver Co. Live on Pay Per View Donna Sommer will sing the National Anthem There will also be a special appearance by Greg Gagne 'The British Bomber' Dave Taylor vs. 'Diamond' Timothy Flowers Timothy Flowers came to the AWA to try and collect the bounty on El Canek. Flowers has used the chair on Taylor and Taylor wants him at SuperClash. Bunkhouse Match Iceman Parsons vs. Black Bart This started when Brian Adias pretty much bribed Black Bart with "John Waynes" cowboy hat. Bart thanked Adias by costing Parsons his opportunity at the TV title. These guys have had some hard hitting encounters but things are going to get rougher as they will go at it in a bunkhouse match. Crusher Blackwell vs. Kokina A match to see just who is the baddest monster in the AWA. Mr. Olympia and 'The Fabulous One' Steve Keirn vs. 'The Fortunate One' Gary Young and Dream Machine At one time Gary Young and Jerry Stubbs were a cohesive tag team (remember Gagne's Gang?). Things turned ugly and they got into a heated feud. Young and Dream Machine injured Stubb's face badly. Weeks later, Stubbs returned as Mr. Olympia. Olympia still had problems with the numbers game until Steve Keirn arrived and helped him out. This enraged Dream Machine to a point where he's making his big in ring comeback at SuperClash. The AWA felt this match needed a special enforcer referee and called upon former heavyweight contender Denver's own Ron Lyle. Sgt. Slaughter vs. 'Thrilling' Tom Brandi Slaughter came on strong and quickly earned himself a world title shot. Nikita edged him out with a countout victory at Title Night. AWA C.O.O. Gerry Morrow was impressed with Slaughter and allowed him to choose his opponent for SuperClash. Slaughter has vowed to clean up the AWA and chose Tom Brandi. Slaughter thinks Brandi is a gutless hippy. Brandi has been undefeated since coming to the AWA and says Slaughter is making a big mistake by underestimating him. Tatsumi 'The Dragon' Fujinami vs. Big Van Vader Japan's media is all over this match. Fujinami is one of Japan's top stars while Vader has recently exploded on Japan's wrestling scene. The AWA wanted this very intriguing match up and signed it for SuperClash. CHAIN MATCH Carlos Colon vs. 'Mad Dog' Buzz Sawyer These guys have been at war for months. Colon defeated Sawyer in a Carribean Death Match at WrestleRock. Sawyer got a win at the Labor Day Show (with help from a wooden chair). They were on opposing sides in the War Games match. Sawyer kept saying this isn't over until he's done having fun. At Title Night, Sawyer attacked Colon and hung him with his chain. Sawyer said this will finally end at SuperClash. Colon has agreed and says he'll be the one walking away. These two will be linked together with a 15 foot chain. It's going to get bloody. AWA National Tag Team Title Bout The Gunslingers (C) vs. Winners of the Pre Clash Tag Team Battle Royal The Gunslingers recently won the straps from Badd Co. and have serious momentum heading into SuperClash. AWA TV Title Shot 'Blockbuster' Brian Adias (C) vs. 'Dynamite' DJ Peterson with very special ring announcer- Raquel Welch Since WrestleRock and that kiss from Loni Anderson, Brian Adias has had a severe attitude change. He's gone total Hollywood. He says he has agents, producers, directors and movie scripts coming at him. He even said he's responsible for getting Raquel Welch to appear and says they'll be starring in a movie together. On the flip side, DJ Peterson has been an AWA mainstay. He recently won the grueling feud with Kevin Kelly and then won a gauntlet match to earn this shot. AWA Mid-American Title Bout 'The Living Legend' Larry Zbyszko (C) vs. 'Mr. Wonderful' Paul Orndorff if Zbyszko gets DQed or Counted Out, he will lose the title Zbyszko has knocked Orndorff out (well, from behind) 3 times with his title. Morrow made this stipulation and promised a champagne toast to Zbyszko if he wins. Orndorff says Zbyszko is nothing but a coward and there's no way out of this one. Zbyszko says he's going to enjoy a 'wonderful' toast. AWA World Tag Team Title Bout The Guerreros (C) vs. The Fantastics The Guerreros have enjoyed a long world title reign. Since then, these two have brawled in parking lots, dressing rooms and all around the ring. Morrow said he's going to put them in a cage at SuperClash and let them fight it out. This one's going to be one stiff fight! AWA World Title Bout 'The Russian Nightmare' Nikita Koloff (C) vs. Jumbo Tsuruta w/Ray Stevens Nikita ended Bad News Brown's year long title reign at WrestleRock. Since then, Nikita has faced all comers. Ray Stevens shocked the world at WrestleRock when he announced he's now managing Jumbo. Jumbo has steamrolled all the competition and earned this shot by defeating Carlos Colon at Title Night. These two haven't gotten physical but the promos have been heated and intense. No doubt about it, this will be Nikita's toughest challenge.

Seems like Reno isn't too thrilled with the Wildside's title win. The Renestos take matters into their own hands and now might finally get their long overdue title shot. I'm glad you picked up Cheetah Kid. I'm looking forward to watching him in a new territory. Bert and RPG had me cracking up. Wild ending and I'm sure the fans went nuts when DJ put Miss Kentucky down. Another fun show tonight.

The WWF is leaving 1988 with a bang and I can tell big things are coming in 89. Two big highlights as Hogan wrestles on TV and Paul E kicks off his Dangerous Alliance with Muta! This is what I love about our fantasy world. We get to see the Dangerous Alliance in the WWF. Looks like the Heenan Family has some big time heel competition. After reading the dirt sheets, I can't believe what's going on behind the scenes. The possibility of Hogan leaving the WWF during his highest peak seems so unreal. I can't wait to see how all this earth shattering news plays out. This is really crazy and surreal.

AWA Report Greg Gagne puts on his sweatsuit jacket and looks into the camera. Gagne: Since WrestleRock, I've spent every moment in the hospital bed and every second of physical therapy thinking about El Canek's demise. I invested every penny I had into the bounty. And yet, that masked moron is still walking around. Well, enough is enough. Greg Gagne has been cleared. That's right, I'm fit, healthy and ready to go. SuperClash 3 is coming and you can bet every damn dollar that Greg Gagne will be there. Greg Gagne is the AWA and it's only fitting that I attend the biggest event of the year. That's right! I'm going to be there and I'm going to tell everybody what's next for El Canek. Canek, it's a miracle you've survived but trust me you're on borrowed time. Now, if you'll excuse me I have more pressing matters to attend to. Sgt. Slaughter is on top of a tank. Slaughter: Listen up maggots! I told you my mission was to clean up all the garbage in the AWA. Nikita Koloff! You're still number one on my hit list but first I'm going to rid the AWA of that gutless hippy punk Tom Brandi. Brandi, you're not built for this business and at SuperClash I'm going to send you back home crying for your mother. In other words, you'll be dismissed! The AWA World Tag Team Title match between the Guerreros and Fantastics is hyped and billed as a dream match. The next segment are quick promos from the celebrities. Donna Sommer is dancing under a glowing disco ball and says she's looking forward to kicking things off at SuperClash. Ron Lyle is working a punching bag and says he's been in the ring with boxing's best and he's more than capable of keeping order at SuperClash. Raquel Welch is standing in front of her iconic One Million Years BC poster and says she's excited to lend her voice for the AWA TV Title Bout at SuperClash. Ray Stevens is wearing a brown suit jacket with no tie. Jumbo Tsuruta is standing next to him wearing a black suit, white shirt and black tie. Stevens: At SuperClash everybody is going to witness the crowing of a new AWA World Champion. Nikita Koloff, I want you to listen and listen good. Jumbo Tsuruta feels no pain, he only inflicts it! Your Russian Sickle is no match for Jumbo's lethal lariat. And that's only one of many weapons in his huge arsenal. SuperClash is going to be the longest night of your life Nikita. You're going to be battered, bruised and beaten! Jumbo raises his fist. Nikita Koloff is wearing a white suit with the AWA world title on his shoulder. Nikita: Ray Stevens, you talk and talk and talk, well, Nikita do his talking in the ring! I've been training harder than I've ever trained before! I live in Russian Dungeon! Nikita afraid of nobody and nobody can beat Nikita for this title! Jumbo Tsuruta, you're next!

The Brother Love show was the highlight for me. I could totally see Macho Man's reaction when Andre threw the mic at him. Classic. The promos really hyped up SNME well. I see Warrior's stock rapidly rising. Things are shaping up well for 1989 and the Royal Rumble is going to kick things off with a bang. Can't wait!

Squash matches are the way to get monsters over. This is working for Humungous. AWWWWW poor Boogie Woogie Man. Looks like Terri has stolen his heart and broke it. Reed, Simmons and Atlas! Damn, that's one put together stable. Piper and Funk together with mics can never be bad. Funk gives one epic promo but it's ruined by that egg suck'n dawg and jackass Dusty Rhodes LOL. Their match at WrestleCade is going to be insane. The Latin Connection pull it off in fitting fashion. Oh man, the SST were put over strong tonight. Williams and Dibiase better be ready. Great job writing up the battle royal. Very easy to follow. I can't believe Funk and Rhodes managed to get even more heat. I thought Tully was going to win it but we get a happy ending with Luger bowing out for the greater good. WrestleCade could be Sting's big moment. Although, I have a feeling something big is coming with the Horsemen. They always have a plan. Bring on WrestleCade!

AWA releases Tom Magee AWA picks up Sivi Afi

I agree with AD, Tojo and Dundee must've took a crazy beating. I always liked it when a show would start off by announcing a title change at a house show. Immediate excitement. Why do I have a feeling Bass is going to be a little rough on Tony's students. LOL! And just like that Morton and Bruno's epic title reign ends. I can't imagine what's going through Reno's mind. Fun show!

AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 12-15-88 Larry Nelson: Hello everybody and welcome to AWA Major League Wrestling. SuperClash 3 is right around the corner and tonight I'll be talking to both Terry Gordy and Kerry Von Erich. Paul Orndorff will be in action as well as Tatsumi Fujinami. As you all know, next week in Fort Wayne, the pre clash tag team battle royal will take place, with the winners getting a National tag team title shot at SuperClash. You'll see a lot of tag teams in action tonight including the San Juan Saints taking on Coast to Coast. El Canek will be in a bounty match against an individual personally called by Greg Gagne. I've been told that man is The Mega Man, Tom Magee. And at the end of the program there will be a special music video showcasing both Jumbo Tsuruta and AWA World Champ Nikita Koloff. Alright, lets get to the ring. 'Thrilling' Tom Brandi vs. Neil Jordan Brandi excites the fans with his high octane offense and wins the match with a flying body press from the top rope. Nelson: Tom Brandi, come on over here. You have been on one incredible undefeated streak since arriving to the AWA. People are calling you a real blue chipper. However, you have a huge task ahead at SuperClash when you face Sgt. Slaughter. He has handpicked you specifically. Brandi: You know I heard Slaughter out here saying he picked me because I'm a weak and soft in the gut. Let me tell you something Slaughter, you made a big mistake choosing me. I've worked hard to get where I am and I'm not about to be bullied by a big mouth like you. At SuperClash you're going to regret picking me. Commercial Break The Olympians vs. Marvin Jones and Louis Moore The Olympians return after a tour of Japan. Rheingans hits a gut wrench suplex on Moore and Patera follows with a swinging full nelson for the win. Olympians cut a promo and say they know they disappointed their legions of supporters by not being in the tag team tournament but vowed to win the pre clash battle royal in the name of sportsmanship. Commercial Break 'Mad Dog' Buzz Sawyer vs. Harold Bannister Sawyer destroys his opponent before finishing him off with a powerslam. Sawyer isn't finished as he goes out and gets his chain. Sawyer starts choking Bannister with his chain. The fans go nuts as Carlos Colon hits the ring and pounds away on Sawyer. Colon swings Sawyer to the ropes and back drops him. Colon picks up the chain. Sawyer staggers up as Colon clotheslines him over the top rope with the chain! The fans cheer as Colon swings the chain around. Commercial Break Nelson: Unbelievable! Carlos Colon is back and I'll tell you what, he looks more than ready for his chain match with Sawyer at SuperClash. Well, speaking of SuperClash, please welcome out Gary Young, the Mean Machine (Rip Oliver and Mike Miller) and of course the Dream Machine. Dream yanks the mic from Nelson. Dream: Everybody's talking about SuperClash and everybody knows that the biggest comeback of 1988 will happen there. I'm talking about my in ring return babay! But, before that, my boys the Mean Machine are going to win the pre clash tag team battle royal and then they're whip those cowgirls and take the National tag titles. That's right babay, SuperClash is going to be an epic night for Dream's Team. Myself and my main man Gary Young are going to finally put Ms. Olympia out of wrestling and teach that fabulous jerk Steve Keirn a lesson he'll never forget. Oh and if that punchy Ron Lyle gets in my face, I'm going to knock him right out! Dream pushes the mic in Nelson's chest and leads his men out. Gary Young bumps Nelson on his way out. We then get some quick comments from all the celebrities appearing at SuperClash including Donna Sommer, Ron Lyle and Raquel Welch. Commercial Break The San Juan Saints vs. Coast to Coast Both teams will be in the Pre Clash battle royal and they're looking to get some serious momentum with a win tonight. The teams go back and forth at a fever pace. Both teams are in sync and on their A game as they display top notch tag team unity. Just as things kicked into a higher gear, the bell rings, signaling a 10 minute draw. The teams have an intense showdown followed by a pushing match, and then the fists start flying as the commercial hits. Commercial Break Tatsumi 'The Dragon' Fujinami vs. Randall Ward Fujinami puts on a wrestling showcase and wins the match with his Dragon Suplex. Nelson: Another impressive win for Tatsumi Fujinami. At SuperClash, he'll be taking on the debuting Big Van Vader. Let's take a look at some highlights of Vader from Japan. We see highlights from Japan as Big Van Vader destroys his opponents with devastating power moves. Commercial Break The Glamour Boys w/Lanny Poffo vs. Todd Rooney and Ray Glader Poffo and the Glamour Boys are in full 80s Glam Rock mode as they enter the ring to Poison's I want action tonight. Poffo skips around the ring and applauds as the Glamour Boys hit the Wham Bam Thank You Maam for the win. Poffo and the Glamour Boys cut a promo and say they're going to wipe out every team in the battle royal and then take the National tag titles at SuperClash because the AWA needs cool champions like us. Commercial Break 'Mr. Wonderful' Paul Orndorff vs. Vic Dutro The fans are up and cheering as Orndorff hits the piledriver for the win. Orndorff gets up but WHAM! From behind Larry Zbyszko nails Orndorff on the back of his head with the Mid American title! Zbyszko casually walks to ringside. Nelson: Larry Zbyszko, I can't... Zbyszko: Shut up Spudhead! (Looks back at the laid out Orndorff) Welcome to Larry Land Mr. Blunderful! You know Nelson, Paul Orndorff has got to be the stupidest man in wrestling. When he wakes up, tell him I'll see him at SuperClash. Zbyszko walks off. Nelson: Yea, it takes a real man to hit someone from behind...again. We'll see what happens when he's face to face with Paul Orndorff at SuperClash. If Zbyszko tries any of his cowardly antics like what we just saw at SuperClash, well, he'll lose his precious title. Commercial Break Bounty Match El Canek vs. 'The Mega Man' Tom Magee Canek waits in the ring. Magee comes down the aisle and looks like a million bucks. He goes to the top turnbuckle and back flips into the ring. He turns around and Canek clotheslines him down. Canek picks Magee up and delivers a snap suplex. Canek picks up Magee and hits a backbreaker. Canek goes to the top rope and crashes down with a flying leg drop. Canek rolls Magee over and clamps on the Boston Crab. Canek wrenches away, Magee submits and the Ref signals for the bell. Canek jumps up and holds his arms in victory. Canek looks down at Magee, then helps him up. Magee gets his breath back and shakes Canek's hand, then starts apologizing to him. Canek pats him on the back and helps him out. Commercial Break Nelson: Fans, at SuperClash 3, Terry Gordy and Kerry Von Erich will settle things inside of a steel cage. My guest at this time is Terry Gordy. Freebird blasts on the speakers as Gordy makes his way out wearing jeans and a T Shirt. WHAM! Kerry Von Erich tackles him down! Kerry and Gordy roll around punching each other. They get up and continue to fight. They end up tearing each other's shirts off as fists keep flying. Prelim wrestlers come out but they get thrown and hurled everywhere. More wrestlers, officials and security storm out. They pull them apart but Kerry and Gordy manage to break free and continue to punch away at each other. Another chaotic scene between these two! Commercial Break Brenda Britton is standing with AWA C.O.O. Gerry Morrow Britton: Wow Gerry, things are really heating up for SuperClash. Morrow: AHHHHHHH Brenda, they sure are and I love every minute of it. I mean at SuperClash 3 de fans will see a Bunkhouse match, a chain match and a steel cage match. It will be wild. And do not forget dat all 5 AWA titles will be on de line. An epic and exciting way to end de year 1988. Next week we will have a special SuperClash preview show. Also, as a gift to our AWA fans, de pre clash tag team battle royal will be shown on TV. Consider dat a Christmas gift from me. Britton: Oh Gerry, you are the best gift giver ever. Morrow: Thank you Brenda. Now, at SuperClash, Nikita Koloff will defend de AWA world title against Jumbo Tsuruta. Let us all enjoy a special video showcasing both men. Def Leppard's Rock Rock Til You Drop plays as we see several great moments and moves from Nikita Koloff and Jumbo Tsuruta.

Once again, these vignettes are so cool. I've always loved using vignettes as a way of introducing wrestlers. I just can't seem to capture the full vision like you can. However, you've inspired me to keep trying

AWA Report With SuperClash only 3 weeks away the AWA is in full advertisement mode. The celebrities involved have been having a lot of fun and have cut several commercial promos. Donna Sommer hyped the event from a recording studio and said she's tuned up and ready to sing the National Anthem. Ron Lyle spoke from a boxing gym and says he's going to make sure things don't get out of control in the tag team grudge match. And Raquel Welch spoke from the pool of her beautiful home, saying she was excited to be a part of the extravaganza. Another place giving SuperClash a lot of coverage is Japan. Jumbo Tsuruta is all over magazine covers and says he's going to win the world title for Japan. Another match getting a lot of Japanese coverage is Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Big Van Vader. Tatsumi is a hero in Japan while Vader has become a hot commodity over there. At the beginning of 1988, Verne Gagne was very skeptical in changing the direction of the AWA but couldn't be more pleased on how things have turned out. Profits spoke volumes and with those profits, the AWA was able to update their look, bring in celebrity guests and of course sign big names in wrestling. Verne has invested a lot of money into SuperClash 3 and is more than confident it will pay off. See previous post for all matches booked

Total 80s WWF. I missed those side bar promos during a match. SNME is heating up. This will be a great stop towards the Royal Rumble. I can only imagine the chaos in the Savage/Andre match. And with Hogan there, you never know what'll happen. The seeds have been planted and things are being mentioned in promos. Demolition vs. The Rockers must happen. 1989 will be a great year for the WWF. Get well soon brother!

AWA TV @ The Hammond Center 12-8-88 Larry Nelson: Hello everybody and welcome to AWA Major League Wrestling. Tonight, you will see 3 gigantic 6-man tag matches. Jumbo Tsuruta will be in action as well as the AWA World tag champs the Guerreros, DJ Peterson, the Fantastics, and AWA Mid American Champ Larry Zbyszko. We'll hear from Kerry Von Erich, Carlos Colon and the AWA world champion Nikita Koloff. We'll also have some major news regarding a huge celebrity at SuperClash 3. Ok, let's get to the ring. Jumbo Tsuruta w/Ray Stevens vs. Carl Kellerman Jumbo totally decimates his opponent before finishing him off with a devastating lariat for the win. Nelson: Ray Stevens, your man Jumbo Tsuruta is just 3 weeks away from his AWA world title shot with Nikita Koloff at SuperClash 3. Stevens: At WrestleRock I shocked the world by debuting Jumbo Tsuruta as my client. Since then, I have brought out his full potential and the man has been an unstoppable bone breaking human wrecking machine. Now is Jumbo's time and at SuperClash 3 he's going destroy, obliterate, dismantle and defeat Nikita Koloff for the AWA world title. It's as simple as that! Commercial Break 'The British Bomber' Dave Taylor and The Rose Cousins vs. 'Diamond' Timothy Flowers and The Wild Ones A lot of intense action as both sides go at hard. Taylor finally gets his hands on Flowers and tags him with several stiff European uppercuts. The Rose's have fun as they pinball the Rich's all over the ring. It doesn't take long for all 6 men to get in there and we've got a pier six brawl going on. Taylor knocks Flowers out of the ring. The Rose's stereo back drop both Rich's. The Ref is guiding the Rose's back to their corner. Taylor swings off the ropes but WHAM! Flowers (from the apron) nails Taylor's back with a chair. Taylor falls forward as Johnny Rich cradles him. The Ref runs over and counts 1..2..3! BOOOOOOO! Commercial Break We come back and see Greg Gagne doing his physical therapy. He stops and towels off. Gagne: (laughs) Well, it seems that masked moron El Canek has survived another challenge. I'm not worried. I'm the great Gagne and I always have a plan. I have raised the bounty to 300,000 dollars. Then I made a phone call. Next week this man will finally rid the AWA of El Canek. He's young, incredibly athletic and has superman strength. After he disposes of the Masked Moron, I will happily pay him the money and it will be money well spent. Now if you all don't mind, I need to get back to my therapy. In other words, get lost! Commercial Break The Fantastics vs. Vic Dutro and Willie Lopez The Fantatsics excite the fans and win the match with the Rocket Launcher. Fantastics cut a promo and say they're in sync more than ever. They won the Tag Team Tournament and can't wait to face the Guerreros for the World Tag Team Titles at SuperClash. Nelson: Fans, as you just saw, the tag team competition is at an all time high in the AWA. Right now, all the teams are gearing up for the Pre Clash battle royal on December 23rd in Fort Wayne. The winners will receive a shot at the National tag titles at SuperClash. Commercial Break AWA Mid American Champ Larry Zbyszko vs. Sam Smith Zbyszko is as arrogant as ever and wins the match with a swinging neckbreaker. Nelson: Larry, you have a tall order ahead at SuperClash. You'll be defending your Mid American title against Paul Orndorff and if you get DQed or Counted Out, you will indeed lose your title. Zbyszko: (gives Nelson a distained look) You know Nelson, whatever it is the AWA is paying you, it's too much. Hey, I'm not worried at all. I've knocked out that spudhead Orndorff twice already. Gerry Morrow put that stipulation in because he doesn't want to hear that crybaby Orndorff complain anymore. At SuperClash I'm going to shut that baby's mouth once and for all. And Gerry, keep that champagne nice and chilled because we're going to have a wonderful toast. Commercial Break Iceman Parsons and The Bruisers vs. Black Bart and The Mean Machine w/Dream Machine Parsons is all over Bart as he dropkicks him through the ropes. Mean Machine run in the ring, but the Bruisers pound away on them and stereo clothesline them over the top rope. Dream goes to regroup his men. The Ref gets order and the next few minutes is a roller coaster ride of back and forth brawling. Dream gets in a lot of cheap shots. After a few more minutes Busick slams Oliver down and swings off the ropes but Dream reaches in and trips Busick. Strong hops down and chases Dream Machine around the ring. Gary Young runs out and hits Strong. The fans cheer as Steve Keirn and Mr. Olympia run out and pound away on Young and Dream. Mike Miller and Steve Strong trade fists. Busick and Oliver hammer away on each other. Parsons and Bart fight to the back. Its nothing but chaos as the Ref calls for the bell, ruling it a NO CONTEST. Commercial Break We come back and see Carlos Colon sitting at home. Colon: (voice still raspy) Carribean Death match, WarGames and countless battles. I thought my war with Buzz Sawyer was over but I thought wrong. Buzz Sawyer, you asked for a chain match at SuperClash and I accepted. At SuperClash, our war ends and I will be the winner. Commercial Break AWA World Tag Team Champs The Guerreros vs. Clyde Putnam and Todd Rooney The Guerreros look better than ever and win the match when Chavo swings Rooney to the ropes and hits him in the mid section as Hector follows with a sunset flip from the top rope for the pin. Nelson puts over the Guerreros SuperClash match with the Fantastics as a dream match. The Guerreros agree and say their excited to be defending their titles against a worthy team like the Fantastics. The fans cheer as the Guerreros hold their titles high. Commercial Break 'Dynamite' DJ Peterson vs. Ray Glader DJ's on fire tonight and wins the match with a diving shoulder block from the top rope! Nelson: DJ, come on over. You won the gauntlet match and earned yourself a TV title shot at SuperClash. Now is a great time to announce that the special guest ring announcer for that TV title bout will be none other than superstar celebrity Raquel Welch. My hats off to the AWA. This is huge news and I'm very excited to see Raquel Welch at SuperClash. DJ, what do you think of that? DJ: (smiles) Raquel Welch is one of my all time favorite actresses. It's a huge opportunity for me to get a chance at the TV title and having Raquel Welch there makes it all the more special. Nelson: No doubt about that. Ok, we have comments from Brian Adias and I would like you to stick around for them. Brian is standing on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He's wearing a pink tank top, white jacket and sunglasses. The TV title is on his shoulder. Adias: (takes off his sunglasses) My future is so bright I gotta wear shades. I'm sure you all heard who I got as my special ring announcer for SuperClash. Oh yea, the one and only Raquel Welch. Raquel and I are in negotiations to star in a movie together. I asked if she wanted to do this and she jumped at the chance. Loni Anderson, if you're out there, don't be jealous baby. Everybody wants a piece of Blockbuster Brian Adias. NOW! I've been informed that I'll be defending MY TV title against, um, wait a second, oh yes, DJ Peterson. (Laughs) You know, I was hoping my match at SuperClash would be like an action movie but now it looks more like a comedy. DJ Peterson? Are you kidding me! DJ, let me explain something to you. I'm an above the title actor, you're what we call in the business, an uncredited extra. In other words, you're a nobody and I'm the star. This is disappointing, it really is. Well, the good thing is the fans will get to see a blockbuster, Blockbuster Brian Adias, that's me. Back Live Nelson: (rolls his eyes) Well DJ, care to comment? DJ: Brian Adias is arrogant and conceited jackass. He can take me lightly, that's fine. At SuperClash, the world is going to find out that Brian Adias isn't a blockbuster, he's a flop! Commercial Break Kokina and The Singhs vs. Crusher Blackwell and Venomous The first few minutes is Venomous working the Singhs over with some high octane offense. Singhs come back with some vicious rulebreaking and inflict some torture. Kat gets worked over but finally makes the tag to Blackwell as Gama tags in Kokina. The fans are up and cheering as Blackwell and Kokina have a stand off, then blast away on each other with heavy hits. Blackwell starts to get the upper hand. The Singhs run in but Venomous are on them. The Ref is distracted when BUZZ SAWYER hits the ring and clotheslines Kat with the chain. Sawyer takes off. Blackwell double clotheslines the Singhs as Kokina hits a big splash on Kat. Kat isn't the legal man but the Ref is confused and makes the count 1..2..3! Kokina stands up and turns around as Blackwell knocks him through the ropes with a shoulder block! This gets a big pop. Commercial Break Nelson: Wow! Buzz Sawyer is out of control with his chain. My goodness did you see what Blackwell did to Kokina. I can't imagine what it will be like at SuperClash when those two monsters meet. Speaking of SuperClash, please welcome out the Modern Day Warrior, Kerry Von Erich! The fans erupt as Tom Sawyer by Rush plays. Kerry comes out and slaps hands with the men and gets hugs from the ladies. Nelson: Ok, Kerry, it's you and Terry Gordy, in the steel cage at SuperClash. There's a commotion as Terry Gordy storms out. All the officials, security and prelim wrestlers come out as Kerry and Gordy charge each other. Bodies are everywhere trying to keep them separated. Nelson: This scene is nothing but utter chaos! The show cuts to Nikita Koloff lifting weights in his Russian Dungeon. He stops and looks into the camera. Nikita: Ray Stevens, you talk and talk about how Jumbo Tsuruta is going to destroy me at SuperClash. Nikita not intimidated one bit! Nikita fights anybody and fears nobody! Jumbo Tsuruta is in for a nightmare at SuperClash, a Russian Nightmare! Nikita sticks his tongue out and does a trap pose.
-
After a tremendous 1988 for the NWA, you my friend, have earned a well deserved vacation. I liked this magazine format. Keeps us updated and gears us up for next year. Day one will no doubt set the tone for 1989. I'm already looking forward to the "Nature Boy", the Eliminators, Wahoo's quest for one last title run and who will be the first to challenge Garvin. Oh and I'm glad we're going to get more of Perez vs. Sawyer. I have really enjoyed this feud. 1989 is going to ROCK!
-
The Russians are coming! The UWF is making a huge investment here and with all the hype, I'm really hope it pays off. If Maeda is confident, then I would be too. The TV deal is a smart move. If you want the national exposure, you have to have TV. Backlund is pretty damn confident but in this environment I guess you have to be. This is going to be interesting. Maeda has serious momentum going with the UWF and he's snowballing it all the way. The man has a vision.

If you're looking for a high flying team, Zenk and Koko definitely fit the bill. Did Brutus throw out a rooster reference? Hahahahaha Only a matter of time before the Rockers and Demolition collide. Warrior gives the Ultimate promo but can he withstand the ghetto blaster? Davey Boy going solo? Yea, I can see that. I like the feud being set up between the Heenan Family and Ex members. Very creative. Fun main event. Oh man is right, the Hillbillies are coming LOL.
-
Yes! The PCW vignettes are back. These are such a great way to introduce characters.
-
I liked AD's different path he took with the Horsemen and now the intrigue continues in WCW. I could see this going either way. You just never know with the Horsemen LOL. Props to you for setting up both the Clash and WrestleCade. I remember WCW used to present a Clash to set up the next pay per view and you've captured this well. Why do I have a feeling the upcoming Piper's Pit is going to go off the rails. WCW is ending 1988 with an epic bang.
