  1. UWF, believing that Ken Patera has been ruled in active until 1987, releases him to free agency and moves Norvelle Austin to a regular roster spot and adds Ken Raper into the jobber pack. UWF also releases Tiger Conway Jr. and moves Lanny Poffo to a regular roster spot and adds Steve Gatorwolf as a jobber. UWF releases Buzz Tyler and moves Master G George Wells to a regular spot and adds Might Milo to a regular spot.
  2. With the open spot by trading Crusher to Lutte, UWF adds Pez Whatley
  3. UWF sends Crusher Blackwell and its second round pick in the 86 fresh face draft for Lutte's first round pick.
  4. Bruiser takes the cash! That alone is going to bring him so serious heat. Wildfire Rich is great as a baby face but truly magnificent as a heel! Love the Stud Stable feud!
  5. Very nice booking. I must say looking at the match ups, I thought Kendell was going to lose each match. Great revenge by Dusty but I think he really wants Idol and another title shot.
  6. In a rather strange twist, it has been reported that this week's television show will be the last one for USWA and the UWF on WTBS. Owner Cowboy Bill Watts has been annoyed by Ted Turner and the fact that he continued to push Mid-Atlantic Wrestling and the NWA on WTBS and give the UWF and the USWA lesser time slots. Watts has been able to work out a deal with mega millionaire Edward Gaylord who owns KTVT Channel 11 from Dallas, Texas which one of only a hand full of superstations currently running in the United States. Its feed already reaches all homes in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Arkansas and is growing everyday. When Gaylord was asked what does KTVT stand for he simply replied "Television for Texans." Some wrestling fans in the know have read into this quote and believes that Fritz VonErich now has the upper hand to win control of Battleground from Jerry Jarrett and keep the company centered in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. When this was brought up to Gaylord he simply replied that he is a wrestling fan and that his superstation will soon by nation wide and just last year he bought and restored the Grand Old Opry in Nashville which he believes is Jarrett country and soon to be KTVT. When asked what time slots he will give to wrestling he said that outside of Texas Ranger baseball games, wrestling will be his biggest push and they can have prime time when ever they like. When asked if there is also time for Continental Championship Wrestling in Florida and Alabama he said yes but it might be best if he works out some agreement with WTOG, the superstation in Florida that has began to air CCW. The Prime Time Super Card from The Louisiana Superdome on July 3rd will be the first UWF show to air on KTVT.
  7. I agree with Gene. Al Madril is very underrated and he is in a perfect situation here. I also like Steve Simpson getting a run here. He had the look of a top star and sometimes that is enough to get you some shine.
  8. I like the way you are building up Nikita here. Week in and week out, he is getting a push to the top without being the center of the show. Wherever Gary Hart goes he builds a stable of monsters and causes havoc. He is such a great manager and promoter of himself that is wonderful on any roster. WWF continues to invade markets and turn the fans into raging Hulkamaniacs. Great job in Canada and WWF is quickly becoming a world sensation. You are so organized and I know you have everything planned out but would love to hear more from Savage to see if he is really turning sides.
  9. Again .... CCW is so creative. From the pink belt of Street to the two super tournaments coming up. Blassie and Humperdink have got two wild stables forming here and they keep getting bigger and wilder. From Super Olympia to Death Wish, the fans and wrestlers best stay on their toes. Teddy Muscles is being used perfectly here. He was never a great speaker but with a manager around he doesn't have to be. He was also just a robotic powerhouse but with the role of enforcer and a match here and there, his weaknesses can be covered up. Florida is about to go wild with the Prince of Darkness. Poor, poor Baahhb Ahhrmstrong. The Stud Stables at war is great. Should make Battleground interesting as they will share a locker room.
  10. What a night for the Americans. Luger, the Nightmares and Funk better be on their toes. I bet not too many Americans leave Japan with victories in the end of their tours
  11. I believe that each person's fate could be different in the game as circumstances would be different but then doesn't that just give us the ability to change the circumstances when it is time. Hindsight is twenty-twenty but seems a little unfair. Since we know where Saito and Patera were when they got in trouble, just move them someplace else and we act like all is good. Keep Gino and Mad Dog away from where their deaths occurred and thy would be here. All probably true but it would just be us moving people to protect them. We have already dealt with this with David VonErich who was in the Florida promotion in the game but we still used his death in Japan as real. I think this is the fairest thing to do in situations like death and prison. It is best to try and keep an historical aspect to this game when we have the opportunity. We are asked to not rush rookies. We are asked to not keep people past their retirement dates. We have fought over venues because sometimes they were outside of the historical territories area. I think we need to keep historically active wrestlers active and non-active, out of the game for the necessary time.
  12. I believe that as of June 17th both Ken Patera and Mr. Saito are off to prison. Do I Patrick an I need to release them or can we keep them and just not use them. I believe Saito comes back in December of 86 and Patera is May of 87. Obviously, I understand that they can not be used.
  13. Thanks for the comments. I agree that I have Dingo playing too big a role here but I have tried to mention in my shows that he has often be carried in the ring by his opponents and I have not had him win too much. I have tried to put him with a manager so that he has time to work on his mic skills. I agree that I must be much more careful in the future with the location of my jobbers. That will all work itself out in a few weeks as I am thinking of a new format.
  14. USWA WRESTLING: 6/15/1985: WTBS 9:05-10:05 MEMPHIS, TENNESSE “Yello again everybody. Welcome to UWF and USWA Wrestling from Memphis, Tennessee and the WMC Studio. I am Lance Russell and once again I am joined by the young guest announcer, Jeff Jarrett. SHORT VERSION HERE DUE TO THE MOVE 1. Both Tennessee and Texas name 8 of the 9 wrestlers who will compete in Battleground. Remember whichever team wins two matches will win control of the USWA for their “boss” ….. Fritz in Texas and Jarrett in Tennessee TENNESEE TEXAS 1. Jerry Lawler Dusty Rhodes 2. Terry Gordy Kerry Von Erich 3. Tommy Rich Dick Murdoch 4. Eddie Gilbert Kevin Von Erich 5. Honk Tonk Man Stan Hansen 6. Robert Fuller Mike Von Erich 7. Jimmy Golden Blackjack Mulligan 8. Robert Gibson The Texas Ranger After reading the list, the young Jarrett is fired up because it is obvious that Fritz is playing games with the 8th wrestler. Lance reminds him that it was his father who sent in the Tennessee Stud Stable last week in Dallas to attack Mike VonErich under the name of Stud Lee. This angle also brought us our main event which was a UWF 6 Man title match where the champions, Rich, Gilbert and HTM retained their titles against Rhodes, Dick Murdoch and Blackjack Mulligan. The challengers won the match but by DQ when Lawler and Terry Gordy interfered. 2. Jimmy Snuka won a squash match against Snake Brown where he got some serious fan approval. At the interview desk he was joined by the two large Samoans who helped but down Akbar and his clan last week. The Samoans were revealed as Farmer Boy Ipo and LeRoy Brown. Together the three vowed to stop the Dingo Warrior and any of Akbar’s other goons. We also find out that it will be Jimmy Snuka vs Dingo Warrior at Battleground on July 3 at the Louisiana Superdome. 3. We also hear from the UWF TV Champion, Iceman King Parsons after he was tarred and feathered last week by Rip Rogers with the help of the USWA Heavyweight Champion, Jimmy Garvin. Iceman demands and is granted a title defense against Rogers at Battleground. Rogers and Garvin try to come out and push Iceman around but as soon as the play rough, it is Brad Armstrong who rushes out to make the save and we get a little craziness here with the fan favorites in control of the studio. 4. The Midnight Express got upset in a bout against Tiger Conway Jr. and Chris Benoit when Baby Doll came out and clocked Jim Cornette right in the head with a big right hand. This was all a set up as it appears the Fab Ones are using some Midnight Express tactics in this war. Denis Condrey and Bobby Eaton were distracted by Baby Doll just long enough to have Benoit roll up Condrey for the victory. At the interview desk, Cornett was fuming and was going to sue everyone in sight if his Midnight Express did not get a shot and the Fab Ones at Battleground. Jerry Jarrett came out and said that he would grant Cornett’s demand and raise the stakes and make the match a #1 contender’s match for the UWF Tag Title! Jim Cornette was beaming but Jarrett said that he was not done. He will grant Cornett’s wish only if Cornette accepts the demand of Baby Doll to face him one on in the ring at Battleground! Cornette goes on to whine for some time and says he will have to let us know next week after talking to him mommy because his mommy always taught him to never hit a women!
  15. Enjoyed Pistol Pez getting some attention in a big match.
  16. Enjoyed seeing the Zambuie Express quickly moving up the list. They could be a real threat to the titles.
  17. WOW... so much going on here and it is all great stuff. Love the idea of Rich/Gilbert being the heels here and a Stud Stable War. The House of Humperdink is a perfect maniacal fit for Florida. Great and creative endings are becoming your thing and I loved the Nightmares putting the green substance on their own face. Dundee/Douglas chain match, new Alabama Champion, the hooded monster, .... and it goes on and on. This is what Southern Wrastlin is all about. Hopefully be back soon to help carry the UWF
  18. Like how Funk is calling out TA but the poor fans in Georgetown didn't get to see Funk in Battlebowl! But Funk never cared about the fans in the 80's anyway. Great set up for TA and Funk down the road.
  19. Just letting everyone know that I will be moving this weekend and not sure when I will be up and running again. I am also away the last week of June and first week if July. I will do my best to keep up but if I miss a week or two, it is because of my schedule. I am in for the long haul and really enjoy this hobby
  20. Enjoyed your TV show as I thought you gave us some really fun matches... The type I wish were really on TV when I was a kid. I was surprised that a Sheepherder offered a handshake to someone. Wonder if the Bushwhackers might be coming out soon.
  21. I agree with Gordi... you do a great job of thinking what the audience wants and the home town guys coming out with the victories. I think you have the best balanced roster in the game right now which makes your shows the most realistic out there. You have young and experieced guys, opening act, true mid-carders and enough main eventers to sell out the big arenas. You also mix your singles and tag team matches perfectly. Great job!
  22. WWF IS HOT! So much going on here. - I like Gary Hart and he always seems to get his hands on a bunch of misfits... No difference here and the WWF has to deal with the havoc! - Good use of Windham. Put in a nice tag match and let him get the victory, sets him up for a great push - the use of Elizabeth here was great. Having Savage yell at her helps give him a heel push and maybe the two biggest WWF stars will soon be at each others throats. - Nikita is poised to make his run at the title after these few shows. That should be big. - Would have liked the last of the Guerrero/ Outlaw feud to have been a 6 Man Match with Lanza
  23. 6/9/1985: WTBS 9:05-10:05 TULSA, OKLAHOMA UWF UNIFIED WORLD CHAMPION: AUSTIN IDOL NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION: HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN UWF WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: THE ROAD WARRIOIRS UWF WORLD 6 MAN CHAMPIONS: TOMMY RICH, EDDIE GILBERT & HONKY TONK WAYNE FERRIS UWF WORLD TV CHAMPION: ICEMAN PARSONS Hello again everybody. Welcome to UWF & Mid-South Wrestling from Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Tulsa Convention Center here on WTBS. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd. The show starts with a white hot Jim Duggan. Ross reminds the fans that Dibiase and Dr. Death Steve Williams used an old lady as a ploy last week claiming that she was Duggan’s mother. When Duggan came out they attacked him 2-1. Jim Duggan: ok listen up Rat Pack! You may be right. I am not the most cultured guy in the UWF. I may not have all the fancy cars and wear all the fancy cloths and I might carry around a 2 x 4 but that is because I come from a blue collar family who had to work for everything they got. My mother and father taught me that an honest day’s work is what built this great country and I was taught to respect others. What you two did last week was disgusting. Making fun of that poor old lady was truly low class. I wasn’t upset that you made her out to be my mother. I what bothered me was that you insulted her for no reason! Believe you me, the next time I see either one of you this trusty 2 x 4 will find the side of your heads! I don’t care how it gets done but I demand a No Rules Street Fight against either Dibiase or Williams in St. Louis. Title on the line! Jim Ross: Which one? Dibiase or Williams? Before storming off Hacksaw Jim Duggan says “Let them decide.” Jim Ross: Wow, Hacksaw Duggan is hotter than a rattle snake sunning himself on top of a cactus! Dibiase and Williams best be on the lookout. Ernie Ladd: I think we found out last week that Duggan best be on the lookout for the Rat Pack. Let’s get to the ring and see the hottest wrestler in the business… The UWF Unified World Heavyweight Champion….. Austin Idol. MATCH: UWF CHAMPION AUSTIN IDOL with FREDDIE BLASSIE VS SPIKE HUBER (Non-Title) Poor Huber just gets toyed with until Idol slaps on the Figure 4 and forces Huber to submit. Unfortunately, with the blessing of Blassie, Idol refuses to break the hold. He uses the ropes for leverage and we just hear poor Huber scream The crowd pops as JYD rushes out swinging his big 8 foot dog chain. Idol and Blassie scamper to the outside of the ring as Dog just keeps swinging that collar. Blassie calls for reinforcements and Teddy Muscles and David Sammartino heed the call. Jim Ross lets us know that JYD might have that chain but he could be in some trouble as Blassie’s stable surrounds the ring and looks for a way in… while avoiding the chain. Jim Ross: Oh my business is about to pick up! From behind, the Texas Outlaws hit the scene and Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch are just beating the snot out of Teddy Muscles and Sammartino. Jim Ross is really hyping up the fact that the American Dream is extracting some revenge on Sammartino. Bionic elbow after bionic elbow leaves the off spring of Bruno laying on the ground in the fetal position. Teddy may have some muscles but he has never faced someone like Murdoch who is just throwing haymaker after haymaker! Blassie and Idol have sense enough to run for cover as the Dog is howlin at the moon. As we head to break, we hear Jim Ross. “Bah Gawd, just look at the carnage. ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- MATCH: THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS (MICHAEL HAYES & BUDDY ROBERTS VS RON SEXTON & RANDY BARBER A complete squash match where the end comes when Hayes hit a Running Bulldog on Sexton. At the interview desk, Hayes and Roberts and joined by Bam Bam Gory. Gordy takes the lead here and says how much he loves Hacksaw Duggan but he might just have to wait in line to get his hands on Steve Williams as Bam Bam wants the first crack. Hayes takes over and reminds the Rat Pack that if they ever want to dance on Bad Street, they might end up having to call the mortician. ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- MATCH: THE KIWI SHEEPHERDERS VS ART CREWS & LANNY POFFO Poor Crews and Poffo is all that needs to be said as the Sheepherders just pummel them while all the time doing a great job of getting some real nasty heat from the fans. Match: BUDDY LANDELL VS TIGER CONWAY JR. Maybe the best bout of the night as these two really know what they are doing. Landell played the scared guy pretty well in the beginning. That all changed as Arrogant Nature Boy came out after an eye rake on Tiger. Tiger takes one more turn wrestling from the top until Eric Embry comes out and distracts the ref. Landell connects with a low blow and then follows it up with the figure 4 for the victory. Jim Ross is having trouble figuring out which of the Rat Pack is the most hated as the quartet of arrogance comes over to the interview desk. Williams does a lot of the talking here where he just brushes off the threats from the Freebirds and Duggan from earlier in the show. Dibiase spends some time hyping up the “St. Louis Street Fight” for the North American Title against Duggan. Dibiase says that it will be his pleasure as the leader of the Rat Pack to take the title! Dr. Death seems a bit taken back that Dibiase just assumes it will be Dibiase in the title match and not him. Both Embry and Landell try to calm the situation by saying that the in house fighting is exactly what Duggan wants. As the Rat Pack walk off, there is a lot of muttering that could be heard. ------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS----------------- THE SHEIKS WITH SKANDAR AKBAR (PATERA & BLACKWELL) VS CHRIS BENOIT & GEORGE WELLS While the match up on paper looks good, it turns out to be a total squash. The Sheiks are functioning like a well-oiled machine and the end comes after Blackwell followed up a drop kick with a Giant Splash on Wells. Just for the hell of it, Patera then tossed Benoit to the floor. As the show comes to an end, Akbar can’t wait for St. Louis as he lets us know that not only will the Sheiks take the titles from the Road Warriors but they will take the career of one of them. Patera and Blackwell then start a mock debate of which Road Warrior, Hawk or Animal will be out of the sport. Jim Ross is just happy the show is over so this nonsense can come to an end. Jim Ross: So long from Tulsa.
  24. I agree with both Rain and Gene. I think it is very accurate historically in terms of smaller promotions. They took what they had and made the most of it and the fans in places like SMW really got it to them. That is not to say that they could come into a more national promotion and move to the top of the card. I think it all depended back them on the amount of people to see them on TV and if they got any coverage in the magazines. Look at Lanny Poffo.... a huge star in ICW to a lower to mid card guy elsewhere but without ICW he would have been a never was. Ron Starr had some star power in the south already and you raised him to a mid carder. Gamma would be great anywhere now but I think in 3-6 month stints where he comes in as a huge heel and puts over a baby face.
  25. A lot of good stuff here. Kamala vs Manny Fernandez would be an awesome TV match. I would like to see Flair in more singles matches as I think his name alone would sell the house out.
