I'll go with Bret vs. Austin, though it's close. The intricate storytelling and character work connect with me more than the pure emotion of Atlantis-V3. Both should make my Top 50 for GME.

I said pretty much this in the MDA thread for this match and still think it's 100% true. That was the PERFECT match and moment to crown the new ace. Lesnar was at the absolute height of powers (both artistically and in kayfabe) as the invincible monster with incredible momentum (the guy who broke the streak and squashed John Cena) and Roman dethroning him then would have cemented him as the top guy instantly. But they didn't strike when the iron was hot and now we are where we are. If nothing else, that match would have had a proper finishing stretch and made the Top 25 for GME.

I actually enjoyed the show. Yes, the booking was dogshit but the match quality was pretty good for the most part. ​Ruby Riott vs. Bayley - Fun start. Featured some excellent selling by Bayley. ​Seth Rollins vs. Miz - Eh, this was alright, better than expected but I think people are overrating this. Hot finish. ​Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax - Prefer the WM match but this is still good. Bliss is turning into a really good worker. Very solid control segments on a larger opponent. The tenacious corner guillotine spot was my favorite. ​Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton - Boring Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass - Cass might be the worst wrestler on the roster but the wrestler of the millennium can do no wrong. Amazing carryjob by Bryan. He even managed to salvage the finish with those nasty crossface smashes after Cass fucked it up. Very good ***1/2 ish match. Carmella vs. Charlotte - Decent match. Carmella impressed me here. Cool heel work and focused offense. However, the more I watch Charlotte against anyone not named Sasha Banks, the more I think she is actually not very good. I liked the story of Charlotte not taking the match seriously (though she could have done a better job illustrating that) and paying the price but the finish here makes the decision to end the streak at WM even more infuriating. AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura - Stupid finish aside, a very good match. Way more intensity and fire compared to GRR and a much better structure. The chair ricochet spot was brutal and I dug the AJ stooping to Nakamura's level with the lowblow. ***3/4ish, on par with WM Braun Strowman/Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn - Ok but a little long Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns - Awesome start but I'll admit the resthold portion hurt this badly, though I enjoyed Joe's character work during. I think the people who pointed out that the segment was laid out to make Joe come across as boring and thus have the crowd boo him more relative to Roman might be spot on, which (if true) is just sad. It picked up big time after, even though they lost the crowd, with hard hitting, intense action. Roman was somewhere close to his best after disappointing showings vs. Brock and Joe was great. I know people really hated this but I thought it was a very good match (***1/2) that could have been even better if it wasn't for a poor layout. Booking wise, Roman is dead in the water.

that is not a common view people would say that in the 1990's Misawa was better. im more in the Kawada was best in the ring in the 1990's but post-Noah split Misawa and Kobashi became better and Taue i Like the most but taking an objective view or as Objective as wrestling can be Taue was the worst in the ring Yes, I am aware that's not a common view. That's sort of the point here. I agree with 1/2 of this i think he is way overpraised minus the GWE casts here I have never seen or read Criticisms of him in ring his backstage stuff yes, by fan he Idolized in every Major FB wrestling group iv ever been a part of every time I try to Criisizse him. i was the only deceting voice so i fail to see how he is underrated. i know this is anecdotal but Fujiawra is very good pick here he is so underrated No offense shodate but did you even read the topic of the thread? It's wrestlers who are overrated in one community and underrated in another. Michaels fits that perfectly (criticized way too unfairly here hence underrated) but praised as undisputed GOAT elsewhere (hence overrated). The Ogawas are rated here (a little too highly IMO hence overrated). Plus your Fujiwara pick support doesn't make sense, what about the overrated part?

This is an amazing piece of work that would make my all time Top 50. Very different from their other matches too with a urgent, almost desperate Misawa vs. a more cerebral Kobashi. Two points stand out: Kobashi managing to make a comeback after the ramp tiger suplex and him finally hitting the Burning Hammer. Combined with Misawa's look after the Emerald Flowsion kickout, they make for the ultimate passing of the torch moment. ****5/8

One of the top matches of the 2000s. Excellent heel-face dynamic, a great mix of limbwork, technical skill and high impact action and strong selling. 2009 MOTY. ****1/4

Awesome spectacle with tons of memorable moments/spots, great character work, snug strike exchanges and well executed finisher kickouts. The execution of the screwy finish could have been better but I liked the storytelling behind it: Lesnar had surpassed Taker but Taker was the fighting veteran willing to kick you in the dick and cheat to win and that's exactly what happened. ****1/2

Honestly not trying to be a hipster or contrarian here but I'd rate Taue above Misawa and Kawada. When all of them were at their athletic peak (let's say 1995), I can buy him being the clear #4 but during the Jumbo and co vs. Misawa and co feud, he was the best of the 4 and after 1996 or so, he was always on point whenever he showed up while Misawa and Kawada were really hit or miss. Also he has gems outside the usual circle like the Hansen classic from 94 or the Nagata match that the other two simply don't for me (excluding the 10/95 Albright wonder). But I can see why people might think me or someone else is rating him too highly so he is a good pick for this thread. Kobashi smokes them all though.

Ohtani is not terribly fond of Ishikawa and goes all out trying to murder him (literally speaking at one point in the postmatch). Ishikawa fights back with fire and disdain. A super heated and extremely intense sprint, with zero letup. All time great squash. ****

I should probably post this in the match thread but I wanted to highlight it. I was rewatching the famous Funk vs. Race bout from 7/1/1977. In the third fall, a bloody Funk is working over the right leg of Race. Race's selling is minimal but at one point he decides to drop a kneedrop with his left leg. Then proceeds to sell that leg for nearly 1 minute in what is probably the dumbest spot I've ever seen in wrestling. After that Funk returns to working over the right leg (as he should) like nothing happened. That spot nearly killed the match for me and almost made me want to yell at my screen "You had an injured leg RIGHT THERE to do that exact spot and it would have fit the context perfectly and looked great". I know that's just one spot but in general, Race is probably the only wrestler considered an all time great who I think is genuinely awful.

i fully agree with all these minus Naito hes well loved aming western Japanese fans in face book groups and alike That's true but he doesn't get too much praise around here (relatively speaking atleast). I think he smokes Tanahashi and beats Okada on inputs.

Am I the only one who liked the finish to 6/6/1997? After all of that overkill and violence, Kawada gets pinned by a simple German suplex that wasn't even executed properly because he has been decimated so badly.

I can understand the temptation to rate Volk Han as underrated since he is a Top 10-20 wrestler ever for me. But for fans of shoot style, he is almost universally praised as one of, if not the best in the style so I don't think he really qualifies as underrated. Same for Fujiwara. Mima Shimoda is a great pick. A transcendently great heel. im not talking just around these parts i more talking about as general rule if you get in ot debate in wrestling fans not around here about best technical workers of all time Volk will never get mentioned when to me there id very little debate there he should be very high than that list and very high on any overall list im technique realism and execution mark not work rate mark and volk tick all these scores 10 9 .5 and 10 in my three main ratings wile not main people mentioned him i also go by og via cage match rating vs my own By that logic, you can rate Jerry Lawler as underrated too. Because he is not rated very highly outside of here (due to lack of awareness to be fair) even though he finished #10 on GWE. PWO is quite different from the rest of the internet wrestling community. Han is always rated near the top for matwork/technique here.

I can understand not digging it but personally, I thought it worked perfectly from a narrative and character standpoint. Like the guy who knew he was way in over his head but would rather get killed than give up. A middle finger in the face of adversity. It played into Brock's growing frustration beautifully too. Building off my initial review, I'll say this is easily Top 5 for the company even with the goofy finishing stretch. And from a booking standpoint, and I think it's sort of obvious in hindsight, they really really should have pulled the trigger with Roman here. It would have instantly made him the ace (considering this was the peak of Lesnar's invincibility) and they could have avoided the entire 3+ year mess that followed.

That's funny because I was considering rating Kandori as overrated. But then I stopped myself because she is awesome, has produced a ton of quality work. I basically agree with all of the points made above. But I think the pendulum effect is in full effect with her, in certain circles atleast. The narrative years ago was that she's very limited and Hokuto carried her in Dreamslam (which is obvious bull) but now some people are stating that she actually smokes Hokuto and has always been one of the only worthwhile joshi workers in history.

I didn't hate it like SLB did, in fact I thought it was really good. But I think his criticisms are valid and it is no where near classic level for me. There was WAY too much downtime between spots. It really, really needed a much tighter layout to be great. Don't think it needed to go 40 minutes. I loved the storytelling element though. I am a fan of well done melodrama in wrestling, whether it's Shawn vs. Flair/Taker or Hashimoto vs. Choshu and they nailed it here. Brilliant finishing stretch. Pretty awesome character and the intensity and hate were on point. Also genuine heel heat for Ciampa was nice to see. ***1/2

Really interesting dynamic as you get big vs. small thrown in with the technical battle. Barnett has the power and the technique but is slightly vulnerable to strikes and has (relative to Tamura atleast) poor cardio. Truly amazing finish. ****

Typically awesome and violent Tenryu beatdown which KENTA sells pretty well, though I thought his comeback was a bit sudden. Loved the post match water bottle toss. ***3/4

Overrated and loses a bit of steam near the end but still really good for the chaos, creativity, nastiness and violence. Fits the setting perfectly. ***3/4
