Bruno Sammartino is not your friend or your uncle. He was a public figure. People are writing news stories about him today. It would be better if those stories are accurate. So the timing is perfect. i fully agree here Shock horror. I actually really wanted to come into this message board as it's clearly got some extremely knowledgeable people here on wrestling, and I hoped it had less of the other rubbish spouted on other wrestling boards. I mean the fact that I never mentioned Bruno in my post where I gave an example, yet people jumped on me saying I wasn't related to Bruno. I never said that or implied it in any way.
-
Jesus Christ are ye people thick ? I NEVER said I was related to Bruno in any way. Read what I said, I was using an example to TRY(clearly failed in that one) and make a point about timing. I'm not saying that Dave was wrong to say what he said AT ALL, what I was trying to say was there is an appropriate time to say things. The day a person dies IMO isn't that time is all I was saying.
-
Yes it was. This is a case of fans being in a bubble, not Dave. Okay well there is no point me bothering because I tried to give an example and you've just picked the last sentence and not addressed the substantive point I was trying to make.
-
Okay, seeing as some people seem to be taking what some of us here and on twitter are saying about the timing(very important point btw) and not what Dave meltzer said(after he paid tribute to his friend btw) I'm going to use an example to try to explain what I was trying to say. Imagine if one of your relatives died(and it's happened to me and I'm sure most here) and people find out that they have died and they start calling to the house. And let's say there was a famous story that your relative told over the years, and there was probably exaggerations added to the story over the years. And it was nice story and one that's fondly remembered by many people, and one of their friends calls to the house and the story is retold. How would you like it if that person said after the story is told, "sure that story is a myth" how do you think you would react ? That is my point. The story may have been embellished a bit but was it really the time to correct the story ? That's my point.

Why because Bruno just died today. That's why people don't like it. I saw that he paid tribute and that's the right thing to have done. A significant news story ? It's a fecking sell out number for msg from over forty years ago. I'm not desperate to be outraged but bringing it up today but now isn't the time or place. Bruno's death is a significant news story. I know that when I'm writing an obituary for a prominent person, which I've done plenty of times, I work extra hard to get the facts right. An obituary is like the final word on someone's life. If anything, I'd argue it's more important to be careful with the details in that context. I know if I were writing Bruno's obituary, I would be happy that Dave, as an authority in the field, clarified this point. I'm not talking about the obituary he will write and I've no doubt that he will do a superb job on it and it will be a fitting tribute to a great man. My point is that correcting a number about how many times Bruno sold out MSG isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things is it ? Is that really relevant on the day the man dies ? I'd say no it isn't. It's not as if Bruno never sold MSG out, so why quibble over the number now of all days. That was the only point I was trying to make. shodate grow up a bit. What does people having a go at Dave meltzer over the WMIII attendance number have to do with with Bruno sammartino ? Nothing that's what.

Jesus, dude. No one is going after him and ignoring facts. The ones going after him are just saying that it's not the time or moment to bring these things up. Why is that so hard to comprehend? It's not that hard to comprehend really.
-
I'm not having a go at Dave for making the point, I'm saying there is a time and a fucking place to do it and the day that Bruno sammartino dies isn't it. Is your keyboard broken ?
-
There's surely a time and a place to comment about a sell out number then on the day the man dies though surely ?

Larry Z and mr X from march 17th 1979 is a great six minute match. Some nice little sequence of moves and nothing that looks crap.

Highlight of the whole thing was Hogan writing out the match spot for spot on the legal pad. Classic Hogan bullshit that I’ll always love. Really ? Hogan claimed in the documentary he pulled a macho man ? Bollocks. That's bollocks about Vince or hulk not knowing whether Andre would do the job in the match. I doubt Vince would have left a detail like that to the last minute. This was a period where stuff was planned out further and what would be the point in doing wrestlemania III if Andre wasn't going to put hogan over.

Well except at Takeover on saturday when Ciampa was powerbombed on an exposed floor and the crowd chanted it loudly.

Warrrior was an asshole. Let's not gloss over him being an asshole.

Nice that spike Dudley got a mention.

WWE TV 2nd - 8th April 2018 (Wrestlemania Go Home Shows)

Seeing a guys lips move and knowing he is calling a spot happens all the time in wrestling and nothing you can do about that with cameras around. But could you hear it on the tv ? -

The cena calling spots and his justification for it is bullshit. Most every other wrestler can seem to do it without telegraphing it to the world. I'm not saying that every wrestler hasn't been able to hide the fact they are calling a spot but we don't hear it so it doesn't affect the match. It's one thing to have a wrestler do it, but that referee in nxt with eyebrows(sorry don't know his name) is taking the piss with him shouting "kick out" during a pin cover is a disaster. I've never heard any ref do that. -
Yeah I did a double take and assumed it was lord James bliers(sp?) they meant. I'd assumed he was in years ago.
-
Exactly. This is the stuff that trips does well.

https://twitter.com/tripleh/status/981245222649675776?s=21 This is the new nxt North American title. I really like the belt. It's got a very old school look to it.

But the point is there may not have been 93,173 there but how the hell do you have less than the official shoot seating capacity of the stadium ? That seems ridiculous as that would mean there were big gaps that aren't shown which there isn't. There are small gaps at either end where there is a camera tower but not 2,000 seats missing.

Just strolling through the vault section of the WWE network, and there is a good bit of archive footage from a lot of territories there. To buy all this footage would cost far more than $9.99 a month. We shouldn't complain.

Also Tony garea was meant to be a baby face in the 1979 episodes correct ? He couldn't get baby face fire if he was set on fire. He gets a hot tag and nothing. Not a spark.

November 1st, 1999 episode of Raw.

WWE network news is reporting that WCW Saturday night will be added to the network on April 2nd. They don't know for certain but they think it's starting from 1992 and possibly 100 hours of it.

I've just finished the episode(march 10th,1979)where Greg valentine "breaks" chief jay strongbows leg with the figure four. I've never seen the full match and I just remember gorilla monsoon in purple pants coming out to help. It's brilliant pro wrestling gaga. The next match goes ahead with the ring drenched in water. It's glorious stuff. Also Vince and Bruno have a discussion for at least two minutes about how being heavier then your opponent isn't always a good thing unless it's good weight. This is Vince McMahon talking FFS.
