SANADA vs EVIL was a genuinely surprising result, while Okada vs Takahashi is fighting with Takahashi vs Ishii for MOTT. Okada finally put in something good this tournament.
-
It's like that in England as well, you go out for a walk and see very few people wearing masks. And the only thing surprising about the Aries and Low-Ki statements is that they didn't say anything sooner.
-
Probably SANADA/Okada final - as redundant as that is - with SANADA going over.
-
I hope Desperado gets a push cause he's pretty great. Okada/Gedo wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but Nagata/Suzuki stole the show, awesome match.
-
Man, I've missed New Japan. Hiromu/Honma was surprisingly solid, and Ishii/Desperado absolutely ruled, even if they went a bit overkill by the end.

Going to go from 1989 because that's the first year I feel confident I've watched enough. Bold is MOTD.

I prefer Tanahashi's peak over Bryan's, but Bryan has been in the conversation for best in the world since about 02/03. I lean ever so slightly more towards Tanahashi.

[2020-06-12-WWE-Smackdown] Daniel Bryan vs A.J. Styles
kas replied to SmartMark15's topic in June 2020
Yeah, this was exceptional. I've not really kept up with wrestling in the empty-arena era, but I had to make an exception for two of the greatest of all time. The duelling limb work was great, and Bryan's selling, in particular, was magnificent. The finish was simple and brilliant. Their best WWE match together and 2nd best match together overall. -
The Tanahashi Vs Nagata series in 2007 was excellent. The Goto match in 2007 is probably gotos best ever match. His matches against Nakamura in 2008 are awesome. He had a good cc run in 2008 with decent matches against Muto and Kawada, before an incredible final against SUWAMA that is one the best matches of his career. Had some great stuff in 2009 against Angle, Muto, Nakanishi, Nakamura, and Masato Tanaka. His 2010-11 stuff is also really amazing, with the Nagata, Nakamura, Goto, Naito, and Kojima matches all shining.

Bryan or Tanahashi. Styles, Hero, and Mochizuki are the closest to them.
-
It's good to have them back. Shingo vs SHO has the potential to steal the tournament, they had a low-key MOTYC last year. I reckon SANADA is going to win the whole thing and I actually think that Okada will go out in the second round to Suzuki.
-
That would be ideal honestly. Winner goes to WK.
-
This is what their pro sports schedule is looking like apparently, so we're probably gonna see them starting up again on June 19. I wouldn't be against them making the G1 smaller just for this year and scrapping one of the tag leagues to run the BOSJ.

It's very frustrating to see people like Naito and Ibushi take these wild bumps (especially Ibushi), it's like they think it can't happen to them. At least people have learned their lesson from the Shibata vs Okada match, as I haven't seen a shoot headbutt since then.

Omega vs Jericho is a good choice, but I'd go a year earlier and say Omega vs Okada at WK11 was more important. That match basically started New Japan's US expansion and considerably raised the profile of both Okada and Omega in the US (Okada is probably their most popular wrestler outside of Japan), to the point where they were able to sell out Long Beach in 2017 within hours of the tickets being released. Not to mention that people would not stop talking about this match and their series in general, and is to this generation what I imagine the Flair/Steamboat or Misawa/Kobashi series' were to their generations.

I wanna throw in Triple H vs Dean Ambrose at Roadblock 2016, and Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens at Battleground 2016.
-
It's a fantastic example of taking advantage of the setting. I doubt that opening 30 would have been enjoyed by a crowd but in an empty arena setting, it's perfect.

[2020-03-29-NOAH-20th Anniversary] Go Shiozaki vs Kazuyuki Fujita
kas replied to paul sosnowski's topic in March 2020
Whether you love it or hate it, this certainly deserves props for being completely unique. A 30-minute staredown sounds awful on paper, but they somehow made it work here (even if it did need a little trimming), telling a story of mental toughness with Shiozaki's focus never wavering, and Fujita's rock-solid determination slowly slipping away to restlessness and eventually being the first one to make a move. It helps that everything after that is great on its own, with them telling a story of Fujita being physically stronger and more technically proficient than Shiozaki, but not having the endurance to get the job done. They also made good use of the setting by brawling all over the empty Korakuen Hall. Unlike anything I've ever seen. -
After Susumu Yokosuka and KAGETORA lost a tag title match in 2011 they were forced to change their names to Jimmy Susumu and Jimmy KAGETORA, and after their unit Junction 3 got disbanded, they started their own stable called Jimmyz along with Genki Horiguchi, Ryo Saito, and Kanda. That's about all I know. If you want ridiculous excess in the best and worst ways, check out their 5-on-5 match with Verserk in 2017 where the losing team gets disbanded.
