  1. I didn't know that (haven't followed closely since Mania), but that's....not good. They've got no-one better for Becky than a 47yo nostalgia act? Neither one comes out of that better for it.
  2. Who, with two hands free, asked for Trish Stratus in 2023?
  3. On a happier note, the estimable Drake Younger broke his back and fractured three vertebrae on the same show. He asks for our prayers.
  4. MASADA setting himself on fire, anyone? I didn't laugh, but I didn't feel sorry for him, I just thought, "Dickhead". ymmv. Better footage here: https://www.tmz.com/2023/04/28/wrestler-sets-himself-on-fire-in-deathmatch-event-suffers-significant-burns/
  5. I'm resigned to, one day, seeing wrestling matches called via audience vote instantly relayed to the ref's smart-watch who then discretely tells the wrestlers the next spot (yeah, I don't know why "discretely" either but you know they would). Even if only as a novelty. I'm sure it's crossed someone's mind. AI could probably book AEW if you asked it nicely. Bring back the WrestleMania horse float/golf cart thingies they used back in the day with the ring ropes. Seeing Andre and Brain pelted with garbage as they rolled into 'Mania 3 on one of those was gold. I honestly think Otis would bounce two storeys if you dropped him off a building. Are Ricochet, Gable, Corbin and Dom WWE's pillars? I've been in a soccer riot (England vs Turkiye, World Youth Cup years ago) but not a wrestling riot and I fear I will never be in a wrestling riot and that sucks. Bugs Bunny vs Ravishing Ronald doesn't get enough love. I couldn't stand "soup-lay" for "suplex" and I'm glad it's gone. How anyone managed to grab a hold with all the baby oil in the 80s is impressive. My "It's four in the morning and the world's asleep" musings.
  6. I know I'm just a jobber here but you could at least "register" for me...
  7. That Auschwitz footage looks less "accidental" day by day.
  8. Fred Ottman? Liger is the best at conveying emotion through a mask.
  9. Quintessential Australia part VIII Fan at Billy Corgan's travelling rock'n'wrestling show on Sunday: "PULL HIS ARSE HAIRS OUT!"
  10. Flair talks Vince with Joe Rogan on that podcast. "“When he was getting involved in scandals and there was girls that he paid off. I just wanted to say, duh! Duh! You have an 80-year-old savage who is built like a fucking gladiator. Gee, you think he fucks? You think Vince McMahon is doing that for hee-hees and haw-haws? No, of course he has some floosies on the side.” "He’s my hero. I judge people by how they treat me and he has treated me like…I’ve never had anyone treat me with more respect in this business. He’s a great guy. I don’t care what he does. He’s my hero.” Rape victim, floosie on the side, what's the difference hey Ric?
  11. I thought the onus was on the pooh-poohers. It’s up to those accusing him of delusional paranoia to prove their diagnoses. None of it matters a whit, of course.
  12. Paranoia is divorced from reality. What’s unrealistic - as opposed to exaggerated - about those quotes? Can you disprove anything he said, while we’re here?
  13. You've completely changed the subject rather than say "I woz wrong" privately? Yes, it still baffles me - no security footage either. But hey, I'm baffled that perfectionist and renowned details man Bret Hart went to the ring in Montreal with "Davey and Anvil for the schmozz" as the only details of the finish.
  14. A lesser man would ask that you PM me with your apologies, given when I said from the outset there was no doubt Punk was coming back once he was healed, you all crapped on the notion. Turns out, I'm a lesser man. Please PM me with your apologies, for the time I said from the outset there was no doubt Punk was coming back once he was healed, and you all crapped on the notion.
  15. Thanks to non-existent demand, Let's Go To The Videotape (tm Warner Wolf)! Jay White vs Komander is bought to you PERFECTLY LEGALLY by piratebay-proxy dot something. From Pittsburgh, the City of Bridges. Huh. 447 of them. They're number one! They're number one! Eat shit, Venice. Ahem. It's a Beat the Clock Challenge! Jay White (6'1", 220lbs, 99% marble / 1% goatee) has three (3) minutes and four (4) seconds to commit non-felonious homicide upon the person of Komander (5'5", 161lbs, 95% nondescript flesh / 5% goatee). Plenty of time, then. Your commentator is Dav'oh. One of these guys is a former IWGP Heavyweight champion. The other might become the next Axiom if he plays his cards right. Let the murder begin. Some foreplay from Jay, hefty chop ("sweet, bro", as our Kiwi friends would say)...and now some powderpuff kicks from Komander. Poor Jay, selling this shit, now having to hunch over inordinately long while Komander springboards in and proceeds to aaaaaalmost fuck up three or four times doing superfluous bouncy shit while Jay holds his hand ending in a very clumsy 'rana. Oh my. Now he's back up, wobbling, before Jay cuts him off. Something happens and Jay's outside and three (3) minutes and four (4) seconds have elapsed and fuck this shit. Zero stars. Fuck it. Minus five.
  16. My Hungarian father always referred to it as "Punkwraczio" (sp?). Punk Wrestling. As opposed to real wrestling.
  17. People often talk of highs and lows and depth, but I'm voting here for Jericho on the breadth of his career. It's quite remarkable.
  18. It's clearly an enduring story. Cultures need story-tellers. I'm glad we can pass this one on to future generations for reference when Ricochet Jr Jr is booked against Son of Son of Cobb. @Blehschmidt, I have no doubt a gentleman like yourself is among the 1% who can successfully rock a goatee i.e without looking like they've sucked a wombat's arse.
  19. I don't see what that's got to do with me, Guy Who Doesn't Like Komander's Rope Walk #407, or anyone else in 2023. There were probably people who mocked those who mocked Flair, too, and those who argued contemporaneously against that 30's article you saw on the Twitters. Same old story indeed. I remember this started with "Why does Komander walk the ropes when the laws of physics recommend otherwise, thus straining my credulity too far", and amongst all these words the only answer was "because lucha". I also suspect many of you sport goatees. That question went unanswered.
  20. Uber condescension aside , I fail to see the relevance. I think Komander's stuff looks like shit, in 2023. No-one here said he was ruining the business, but anyway. So what if people thought Londos or Ricki Starr or Rocca were ridiculous and contrived? How does that invalidate my and others' views today? Strangler Lewis was doing distraction finishes 100 years ago - it was shit then and it's shit now. Calling out distraction finishes can't be done because they were called out 100 years ago? Of course it can. Just like calling out overly-contrived shit can be done today, despite it being called out repeatedly over the ages. Mocking people passive-aggressively because of their likes and dislikes? C'mon mate. People were saying that stuff about Carpentier? I wasn't around back then, El-P. I'm around now. And so is Komander. I say this knowing your post was in good humour and without malice; I just think it missed the mark.
  21. Vader said of his UWFi fight with Hashimikov, I believe, that the office told him: "If you make it to the finish, he'll honour it."
  22. I feel we're super-quick to anoint Innovative Acrobat #512 barely a month after anointing #511 barely three months on from anointing #511 without subjecting their work to further scrutiny. Yes Komander's metrics and kayfabe achievements are...mentionable...but we're having to allow if not make excuses for his style, which I don't necessarily consider pure Lucha. He has to lose to White so I don't know why they booked this. White's the one you want at the top of the card in the World Title mix, Komander's your "spectacle" wrestler. And he is over because of his moves, you're right brother El-P, but we all know a)you really need more than moveztildeexclamationmark because b) what happens when we've seen all the flips and shiny new #513 comes along.
  23. He's over, he's not over, it makes no difference to how he works, @El-P. And how he works leaves me perplexed, even in the nonsensical world of pro-wrestling and the peculiarities of Lucha. I was being somewhat facetious about the goatee. But then, I share @The Thread Killer's old-school tastes. And I don't mind accusations that it's still real to me. In the spirit of which... Jay White should murder him. Three minutes and four seconds, at the most.
  24. I don't get Kommander. When he does his wobbly, wonky, shitting himself, rope walks I don't go "Wow!", I go "Why?". His opponent has to wait even longer than usual to catch him, he gains no more momentum than if he ran in the ring (quite considerably less, in fact) and it appears he sports a goatee. Again: Why?
  25. I'd advocate for Ospreay vs PAC to be the titular main event at Wembley, as incongruous as it seems to close their biggest show ever (?) with either of those two triumphant (at time of writing; plenty of time to build up the Bastard) You can stack the rest of the card. Two Brits nominally headlinging a Brit supershow would raise the ghost of Gorilla Monsoon, just to say "you could cut the electricity with a knife".
