  1. Personally I disagree. It's not necessarily Ross or Tony I have a problem with in isolation, it's more the referential nature of both appointments. I'm not trying to discredit either's ability, but I think if you're trying to portray something as a cutting edge, fresh product, then using old tired names to present the product will work to your detriment. Oh well I hope I'm proved wrong tbh but it just feels a bit old
  2. Should have thrown that same money at Mike Goldberg and/or Bas Rutten. Would have been much better I guess it's the shitty podcast obsession era. Maybe conrad will start holding the mic for backstage promos
  3. It's a strange narrative that AEW are presenting a fresh alternative but are using Schiavone & Jim Ross I thought it was meant to be cutting edge stuff. They've got a combined age of 121 Im not sure how old the lad in the mask is- and tbf he's better than I thought- but it's a strange move. If I were a lapsed fan would I really want to hear the same old voices? I am bored of wwe for its obsession with nostalgia I dunno
  4. An anodyne Jack Tunney figure occasionally emerging from his office would be wonderful As would an hour long programme of squashes hosted by Sean mooney from wwe editing suite come to think of it.
  5. Uwe Boll is more accurate
  6. Is the pre-show on TV in America anymore or is it just youtube?
  7. This card is so weird. I have high hopes for balor-wyatt weirdly, just a feeling. Hope I won't jinx it
  8. Might not necessarily be a block to all wrestling, probably just AEW. If you look at UFC Fight Pass, they carry dozens of different marginal combat sports etc and work in conjunction with them. Doing that and helping all lower level feds still on the service/using them as feeders (similar to the arrangement they already have with Evolve?) makes sense and helps the fight against AEW surely... Interesting times
  9. Gotch has had it in for meltzer since he got his head kicked in by sin cara a couple of years ago. Dave reported it as completely one-sided, gotch maintained he got his digs in, and the resentment kept growing. I'm almost ashamed that I know this to be honest but it's the truth.
  10. Oh dear, I didn't think of it like that. *edits*
  11. Let's be honest, is there anyone who has been benefitted by the idea of working their character on twitter? It's a medium of stupid jokes and offhand comments, which I like, but building your character? Fuck all that
  12. Yeah that performance from Cain was unbelievable within the context of who he is. The fact that he's beat Lesnar before in real life would make WWE idiotic allowing him go to AEW But I would just love a good run in AAA in honesty, too much focus on US companies really, and the crowd loved him.
  13. I'm sure someone "in the know" may correct me here, or perhaps I'm underselling some of the people signed, but surely these "unathletic" wrestlers signed are simply going to be used as JTTS without explicitly stating as such. In a cynical sense, if they're on one year contracts as part of, say, a three year plan or arc, then using them to get over the higher tier workers to a new audience and running small level programs amongst the ones that manage to get over is just wrestling 101. The era of straight jobber squashes is long-gone but this scenario is no different to a boxer being fed a rubber fight as part of their comeback (i.e. Tyson Fury v Seferi or Pianeta). I would assume that the people we're mostly dismissing in this thread are merely collateral in the quest of creating mainstream stars of Omega, Cody, Young Bucks et al Perhaps not how the low-level indie workers view this opportunity, and hopefully some of them take the opportunity & make something of themselves, but really this is an ego trip of a promotion from the top boys and should be viewed as such. Signing a chubby mid-career to get battered by Cody and get him TV time without him exhanging wins and losses with someone they have genuinely have plans for makes sense to me. (This probably sounds like a sly dig at a lot of people but it isn't really, this is just how wrestling works).
  14. Superman punch used sparingly could be great for a character. Every other match? No I mean come on
  15. Seths biggest problem to me is that it just doesn't seem believable that he'd win any fight ever. His offence is awful for the most part. As a cowardly cheating heel, he works. Everyone thinks he's a rat anyway why not embrace it.
  16. Maybe Vince is just into podcasts now
  17. Just when you think they have a chance to do something interesting Not a bad show though, as far as modern Raws are concerned
  18. That's a sloppy old kick and achieved nothing. Poor. The suplex I was talking about is after that as well.
  19. Was it the suplex? It looked pretty grim
  20. This is exactly why she'll end up doing it. Short term monster heel run
  21. It's the type of signing Vince loves to make. Surely they're in contact already, she doesn't even have a deal right now
  22. There's no real edge to it once you remove the credible fighter really. They've booked themselves into a corner with too many 50/50s and Becky Lynch has cooled off too much. Following the Nunes dominance in UFC I think putting a years contract under the nose of Holly Holm or Cris Cyborg wouldn't be a bad idea...
  23. My cousin- bless him- isn't the sharpest tool in the box, and believed for several years that ECW was real. Occasionally you would see the point of reasoning kick in during some of the stupider shit they pulled but he really thought this was just some anything goes group of nutcases. I'm quite jealous of that in a way. Interesting now, as it's gone the other way with me- I watch far more MMA than wrestling these days but I think there are far more fixed outcomes in it than anyone dares let on.
  24. Didn't really like the chair shot but the cody match was really great. Didnt think it was the best card but they do have ideas, which is something.
