Acevedo's DDT is becoming one of PCW's most consistent finishers. DW gets to preoccupied chasing Cornette to remember he had a match going on. Bret moves a step closer to a another TV title shot by submitting the champ's brother. Interesting scene between Bearer, Red & Bubba. Owen with a huge win over Black Tiger. I was pulling for the Odd Couple but the Bomb Squad have hold on to the gold. What do y'all wanna bet Rose is enough of a heel he got Bock cheered?

The Diamond Exchange cost the Army -in particularly Morton- big against the Malenkos. Great way to add heat. St Clair evens the score with Payne. I'm sure Barr savored that victory over Douglas. SSM keeps Young's losing streak alive. A win over Kahn may be what Windham needed to reset his career in PCW.

Whoops somehow that "He" looked like a they.

I've got Fidel, no clue about David though.

Taped at the Asheville Civic Center before WCW. Originally airing on 9/18/87 on the USA Network. With your host "The Dean of professional wrestling" Gordon Solie! Spartanburg Vice "Jerry Bryant Lou Winston" defeat "Tough" Tony Falk & Mitch Snow with the "Spartanburg Special" on Falk. Tough Guy Inc (Don Bass Duke Myers & Big Daddy Cyrus) defeat George South, Rocky King & Masked Superfly (Ray Candy in a mask) when Cyrus pinned King with a spinning side slam. The Grappler defeats Dusty Wolfe with a Lariat. Main event. Winner challenges for the NWA World Television Title on next week's WCW. "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi defeats Jimmy Del Ray w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel after Martel tried to interfere which brought down Cocoa Samoa who carried her to the back. A distracted Del Ray then turned into a jumping headbutt. In other news.... Solie breaks down the standings of the two blocks for the Starrcade Cup. Black A: Dusty Rhodes 1-0 Arn Anderson 1-0 Rocky Johnson 0-1 Giant Haystacks 0-1. Block B: Buddy Landel 1-0 Abdullah the Butcher 1-0 Adrian Street 0-1 Bruiser Brody. He also states that Block A will continue next week with Arn Anderson vs Giant Haystacks & Dusty Rhodes vs Rocky Johnson.

From the Asheville Civic Center in Asheville NC. Previously recorded/Airing on the USA Network on 9/17/87. On Commentary Bob Caudle Tony Schiavone. Ring Announcer: David Crockett. The Killer Bees (B.Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) vs Zodiac & Jason the Terrible. The departure of Angel of Death after the Labor Day Spectacular may have marked the official end of the Celestial Trinity, but Zodiac & Jason were determined to prove they are still a force to be reckoned with. The two masked men were very aggressive as they took the fight to the popular tandem. Even so Blair & Brunzell were riding high from their big win over the DWB's and refused to be pushed around. Though they absorbed a fair amount of punishment, the used their superior teamwork to quicken the pace eventually putting Zodiac away with the double dropkick. Commentary hype the roll the Bees are on & predict a title shot in their future. "Mr Excitement" Johnny Ace vs Ron Slinker We get a solid TV match with Ace's well rounded approach clashing with Slinker's martial arts based offense. Ace does what he can but is ground down by a barrage of strikes & throws which culminate in the roundhouse kick for the 1...2...3. Good & Plenty (Ray Candy & Sweet Brown Sugar) vs The Islanders (Haku & Tama) w/Ox Baker The sheer fiercity of the Islanders clearly takes Good & Plenty off gaurd & they struggle to get any sustained momentum. With the menacing Baker shouting instructions, the savage duo tear into their opponents with borderline animalistic fury. A double thrust kick on SBS signals the end of the match but the assault continues as Haku & Tama hold both their fallen adversaries allowing Baker to hit them both with the dreaded Heart punch! Baker & his savages have sent a strong message with commentary openly worrying about the arrival of Ox's mystery man in the main event. NWA World Television Title. "Black Magic" Norman Smiley(c) w/Ms Linda vs Commando Boone. Boone uses his size & power to overwhelm Smiley in the opening moments of the match. The fans are up & cheering as the champ is bounced around the ring. Boone seems to be building to something when Ms Linda pulls her own man to the floor for a breather. Smiley uses most of the referee's count talking with his valet before re-entering the ring. It was time well spent as Smiley changes tactic, focusing on using his superior wrestling ability to wear the big man down. Halfway through the bout, the camera shows a tall, imposing man in military fatigues watches the proceedings with an stoic look on his face as he twirls his impressive moustache. Nobody in the ring notices him however & Smiley is able to synch in the "Norman Conquest" to successfully retain. While Smiley celebrates, commentary ask the obvious question....who was the man in the aisle? Starrcade Cup Block B match. "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel w/JJ Dillon vs "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda It's clear that Street heard Landel's comments last week & was not amused. He showed his displeasure with a series of stiff shots that had his opponent reeling. Give Budro credit though, he actually can back up his endless stream of tough talk & he's able to regroup and together the two put on what turns into a high quality back-and-forth technical bout that manages to pull the crowd in despite their distaste for both wrestlers. Towards the end there's an argument between JJ & Ms Linda that sees Dillon get into Linda's face even grabbing her arm. Her shouting gets Street's attention and he goes over, reaches through the ropes and grabs a handful of Dillon's hair. This causes him to release his grip on Linda which allows Street to run Dillon into the ring post. However just as JJ makes contact, Landel runs up behind Street & pulls him into an O'Connor roll with two handfuls of tights to win Block B's opening match. Starrcade Cup Block B opening match. Bruiser Brody vs Ox Baker's mystery competitor. (Brody is stomping around the ring while Baker comes down & demands Crockett's mic which the frightened man wisely gives over) Ox: I promised that tonight is when the carnage would truly begin & I intend to delever. I searched the darkest corners of this world for a man who I would lead to the NWA World Heavyweight Title and I found just what I was searching for. I found a man, no I found an animal who will stack the bodies to the sky on our path to total domination of the NWA. Now, behold with despair..... ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER! The crowd & commentary both are in shock as the Madman of the Sudan stomps down the aisle & charges into the ring. What follows can barely be called a match as Brody & Abby seem more interested in tearing each other apart than actually winning points for the tournament. The two spill to the floor several times and it's during the last of these that leads to the finish. The ref is trying to convince the two to return to the ring when Brody hits Abby with a boot which sends him crashing into the post. When the ref goes to check on the Arabian monster, Ox takes the chance to sneak up behind Brody before spinning him around & nailing him with the Heart punch before rolling him back into the ring. Abby manages to regroup enough to follow him back in & hit the Sudanese Meat Cleaver (running elbowdrop to the throat) for the tainted win.

So psyched for WCPW holding its first Warga....er, I mean 10 man Massacre Cage match. I do like the twist of it being a random draw each time though. Lanny tries to stand up for his brother but Garvin is too much to handle. Luckily for Savage, Ricky Steamboat is willing to step up. Rockers & Rock n Roll Express are ready to tear each other apart. Wild Bill & the Youngbloods Chase off Black Bart & The Jayhawks. Major win for Hall over Slater. With a little help from Dan Spivey, Scott Casey finally becomes Chicago Street Fight champ! McHenry has a huge night of wrestling ahead of them.
-
Platt & Valiant's bickering is golden every week. I love how passive aggressive Platt is. Fuller is decidedly NOT grateful for Brad & Scott's assist & his firey insults get him a title shot. Embry with a win for the Downtown Connection. Stacked card for Birmingham. Can the Stud end Brad's reign before it really gets going? Who is he sending after the General? Will Scott prove that he is in fact the king of the junior heavyweights in this region? No Fiesta Garden? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Goddamn you Special Olympia! Tommy Rich-The Only Real Rich in Wrestling- is back in the territory that made him a star! Luck Fawler LMFAO! Billy Joe fakes a relapse and now he & Wildfire could be tag team champions this Monday! Nice to finally know where Tommy gets those shirts.
-
Gotta give credit to Bad News for no-sellling a title shot against Lawler. Putski & the Glamour Boys make common cause. I'm predicting some wild six man tags. Keirn declares his issue with Idol is over, I have a feeling the Heartthrob will disagree. Veasey gets the shot next week but Billy Jack is still on the hunt. Glad to see the weekly contenders match return. I'll say openly that I got the idea from weekly TV title matches from you. Mando with a solid debut. Venomous leave Polynesian Power laying proving their worth to Gagne. Z-man is on a roll. The Bruise Brothers aren't sweating a rematch with Oliver & Borne. Perez has no time for Larry Z's stalling. However Zbyszko takes the a shortcut leaving plenty of room for the feud to continue.
-
Koko & Bad Company get some solid showcases. Black Bart & the Jayhawks make quite the formidable trio. Knobs & Saggs weren't Nasty enough to stop Rock n Roll. Kamala throws another body on the pile. The Rockers are building up steam for their next clash with the Express. If there were any doubts the WCPW fans would accept Savage as a face, Garvin removes it utterly. Race leads the Untouchables to victory but I know the fans left happy after seeing Jones take that Doomsday Device!

First stop Portland. The Playboy Club's dirty tricks lead to victory against Rose's former running mates. Hennig needs to dig deep to overcome the Anvil. PCO costs the Wild Things, particularly Cactus, a big win. Rogers ravages Red with the racket! Southern Boys vs Malenko's must've been fun. Gantner fends off the Hitman to retain his title.... this time. Onwards to Eugene! Morton shines in defeat against Black Tiger. Looks like Tony wasn't quite Tough enough to handle the Payne. Young's recent slump is getting to him. Acevedo claims a big win over Double J. Red gets a small measure of payback on Corny & co. Backlund needed just a bit of luck to escape from Simmons with both belts in tact.
-
Morton nearly catches Flowers leading to a brawl & the beginning of a proper feud with the Diamond Exchange. Bearer's words may not have convinced Red but perhaps Sid's dominant performance did? Furnas sends a message first by beating Chavo Classic then rebuffing his former teammates. Wild Things with a big six man tag win over the Army. Bret scores huge by pinning the Television champion in the main event! I'm sure Ed will be taking Bret more seriously from now on.
-
Richter sacrifices the Trios title in a bid to retain the Television Title. Solid win from WWW's resident princess. Between Peterson's win here & bringing in Luna as their newest member, the Giant Slayers are looking pretty good. Richter wins a grueling 2 out of 3 falls match to claim her United States Title shot. Will we get a new U.S Champ or will McIntyre earn her chance at Medusa? So excited to find out!
-
Watts is pulling out all the stops to end this war with Ladd one way or another! What major purchase has Dibiase made this time?
-
I've always been amazed at your ability to write this one night 16 man tournaments. The way you take everyone's feud into account is a real inspiration. What the hell did the Outlaws do to Cooley? How the hell do you miss Plowboy.... doing anything really? Al Madril as champion would've been hilarious but Brad definitely earned it tonight. The Army wins in the cage but is stopped from taking the Stud out for good as the General's sons finally get involved & seem to say they don't agree with his goal. Twin States is on fire!
-
I'm sure the Japanese crowd was impressed with Furnas' win in the opening match. The Southern Boys win an exciting tag division display. I wonder if it was a little awkward for SSM to represent another company in a event help in his home country? Still, a solid win. Buzz was on his best behavior for the Japanese crowd but unfortunately it doesn't result in a win. I'll be honest, all I know about Fujiwara is that he helped make Minoru Suzuki the man he is today..... so as you can imagine I'm utterly terrified of the man. Him tapping out St Clair certainly doesn't help. The Malenko brothers definitely made an impression with that win. Takada evens the score with Black Tiger. The Odd Couple get a satisfying win over the Japanese contingent of Gary Hart International. A game Young falls to Choshu. Kobayashi & Pillman tear the house down. The Brigade pull of an enormous win in a star-studded main event. R.I.P Inoki-san.

Taped at the Winthrop Coliseum before WCW. Originally airing on 8/11/87 on the USA Network. Featuring your host "The Dean of professional wrestling" Gordon Solie! The Islanders (Haku & Tama) w/Ox Baker defeat George South & Rocky King with a double thrust kick on King. "Mr Excitement" Johnny Ace defeats Dusty Wolfe with the "Ace Crusher". Ron Slinker defeats Apurva Julius McEwan with a Roundhouse kick. Winner challenges for the NWA World Television Title on next week's WCW. Commando Boone defeats Len Denton with a big splash. In other news.... Solie was shocked to see the emergence of Ox Baker alongside The Islanders. In a post match promo Baker says his whole career was based on two things, hurting people & making money. Says what the Islanders did was just the beginning & the carnage will truly start when he reveals the mystery competitor in Block B of the Starrcade Cup. Speaking of the Cup, Solie gives a recap of Block A last night & says Block B will commence on next week's WCW with... "Nature Boy' Buddy Landel w/JJ Dillon vs "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda Bruiser Brody vs Ox Baker's mystery competitor!

From the Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill SC. Previously recorded/Airing on 8/10/87 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone Ring Announcer: David Crockett The South Pacific Connection (Siva Afi & Cocoa Samoa) vs Patrick Linus Parsons & Lias Dosiefy Irwin. Commentary hype the history of the South Pacific Connection & their stints in both the USWA & Western States Wrestling. They don't seem to have lost a step as well they bounce their opposition all around the ring before finishing Irwin off with a double headbutt. The rest of the tag division will be keeping an eye on these two. Tony Schiavone: Ladies & Gentlemen, my guests at this time are a group that are once again operating at full strength after the Labor Day Spectacular, accompanied by JJ Dillon, The Four Horsemen! (The crowd erupts in boos as the five men make their way to the ring. Landel & Dillon are out in front wearing finely cut Italian suits, The Andersons are right behind in their long pants & golf shirts. Arn completes his look with a nice looking fedora hat. Hansen bringing up the rear is an almost jarring contrast in his chaps, tusseled vest & cowboy hat. Another difference is that while the previous four all had looks of smug self-assurance, Hansen bore his trademark snarl that only became more entrenched by the fans hostility.) TS: Well I have to admit JJ, this is an incredible collection of talent you've amassed here, but I think we're all curious to know, what did it take for Stan Hansen to become the Fourth Horseman? (Dillon goes to respond but Hansen puts a hand on his shoulder & approaches the mic while giving Schiavone a look that would curdle milk.) SH: You wanna know how Stan Hansen became a Horseman huh? Well it's real simple *Hansen shoves the United States Title so far into Schiavone's face he has to lean his head back.) Ya see this belt right here? This belt says I'm the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship but ever since I won this thing three stinkin' months ago I ain't heard one word from nobody about getting my shot. So Dillon comes up to me & makes me a deal I'd be a dang fool to refuse. I join the Four Horsemen & he gets me my well deserved shot at the World Title. TS: And your sure he can arrange this for you? *Hansen fixes Dillon a hard look* He will if he knows what's good for him. JJ: Stanley, Stanley don't worry about a thing. I know every trick those snakes can pull. You'll get your shot, I guarantee it. (Hansen seems somewhat appeased by this & turns around walks to the Andersons who seem to try & talk to him. Dillon allows a brief look of discomfort to pass his features before returning his smirk to its proper place.) TS: Moving on, I'm curious about how your all reacting to both Buddy Landel & Arn Anderson being entered into the Starrcade Cup. BL: I'll tell you what we think, we think this is gonna be the most anticlimactic tournament in wrestling history. I mean look who they stick me with in Block B. A Brit who looks like he only became a wrestler because it gave him an excuse to wear tights, a braindead barbarian who still thinks it's the ice age & somebody to scared to even tell us who they are. Meanwhile Arny here just has get passed the Wet Dream Dusty Whodes, some clown who can't decide if he wants to dance or fight & a Brit with more chins then moves. No doubt about you're looking at the finals of the Starrcade Cup right here brother! TS: And after that? BL: Then we meet up at Fright Night, shake hands like gentlemen then Arnoldo does the right thing. TS: Is that true Arn? Are you gonna do the "right thing"? AA: Why Schiavone, I'm surprised you even feel the need to ask. I always do the right thing *fixes Landel a look* for the Horsemen. BL: There you see! He's gonna do....hey wait a minute. JJ:*hurriedly grabs the mic* Alright this interviews over. Khnum Gunni Murdoch & Valerio Salathihel West vs ?&? (Slick makes his way down & takes the mic David Crockett uses to make announcements) Now the Slickster knows how much y'all were hoping see the Brutha's in Arms whoop on these two bit fools here but after the little....sitiation at the Labor Day Spectacla' we decided it was time for the Brutha's to move on. But don't worry folks cause the Slickster is still the man to see for all y'alls wrasslin needs. Not only do I still have my main man Iceman Parsons but allow me to introduce the newest members of Black Diamond Entertainment... Fidel Sierra.... Ricky Santana....Los Cubanos! Sierra & Santana certainly make an impression as they tear into their opponents to the delight of Slick. Murdoch goes down to a double gutbuster & Black Diamond Entertainment is off to a strong start. NWA World Television Title "Black Magic Norman Smiley(c) w/Ms Linda vs "Lone Star" Brian Adidas Commentary explain that in place of the usual qualifier match, Adidas earned this title shot by virtue of being the sole survivor of the Six Man elimination tag match. The Six Man Tag champ gives a good showing of himself but it's clear that Smiley is the better mat wrestler. With the added coaching of Ms Linda, Smiley is able to overcome the experience gap & Adidas is forced to tap to the "Norman Conquest" Starrcade Cup. Block A match "Soul Man" Rocky Johnson vs Arn Anderson w/JJ Dillon Between the heat on the Horsemen & the charisma of Johnson, the fans really come alive for the opening bout of the Starrcade Cup. These two put on a great TV match though you get the feeling they could turn it up even more. The end sees Johnson building momentum & running the ropes for something big, but Arn distracts the ref allowing Dillon to reach in & grab Johnson's foot. Johnson kicks him off & charges anyway a regrouped Anderson catches him in a spinebuster for the first win of the tournament. Starrcade Cup. Block A match. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes vs Giant Haystacks w/Ms Linda. Not near as polished as the previous match but the crowd is on the edge of their seats regardless as they wait to see if their hero can withstand the onslaught of the Commonwealth's monster. Rhodes plays face in peril & Haystacks looks like a killer throughout. Eventually the fight spills to the outside, and Haystacks goes to splash Rhodes into the guardrail but Dusty moves & the British behemoth crashes through the guardrail causing the fans in the first few rows to back away in shock. Rhodes makes it back into the ring & while Haystacks does stir, it's not enough to beat the referee's count giving the American Dream his first win to a huge pop from the crowd.

After multiple backstage attacks, Estrada & Mulligan step into the ring 1 on 1. Brian Adams is impressing the Mid-South faithful. Eddie & Missy are impressed as well. Robley would be wise to head Solie's warning, you can only push Ladd so far. The fans would've appreciated the update on Prichard. Ivan & Solie's bickering is one of the best parts of the show. Blanchard is making himself such an obvious suspect I'm starting to think it has to be someone else. The show ends with a wild brawl between Hot Stuff Inc & The Freebirds which is highlighted by Brian Adams becoming the newest member of Hot Stuff Inc. Some wild action in store for Shreveport this Monday night.

The Cactus/PCO feud continues with the French Canadian going one up. AoD tames a Grizzly with a little help from Kahn. Windham gets a DQ win in his eternal war with OMG. Rose's enforcers get intercepted leaving him alone with Finlay. Candido tries to become a double champion but it was not to be. The Bull Hammer puts down Hector.
-
Really like the backstory explaining the roster shakeups. Ya know Lowblow, something about you booking JCP feels right.
-
Round 1 of the tournament is stacked with several men who would make a worthy champion. Shaska & Tiger are back in Twin States & are ready to rebuild the Movement. Brad sidesteps the question about his father to focus on his big opportunity to become the Twin States Heavyweight Champion. Madril & Martinez are slowly getting on the same page. Ouch, Al takes a few shots at the folks in New York. Humperdink sends a powerful message to Night Rang...I mean Ranger Dang...I mean Ranger Ross. Los Mega Stars finally give a proper interview running down their many enemies. The Rich/Travis saga continues with Johnny agreeing to give Billy & his mystery partner a chance to earn a title shot. Mr Olympia has had just about enough of the this disrespect. Brown seems to be on the fringe of the new Downtown Connection. Thatcher arrives with a huge announcement that Twin States is going back on tour. Cooley wins the main event but ends up in a beatdown until Brad makes the save. "Plowboy Martinez's wardrobe provided by 'Goodwill" LOL!
-
Hart, Blackwell & the Uncommon Alliance due their part to get the crowd warmed up. Idol claims the first win in his feud with Keirn. Zenk gets his backup leading to a win against Hickerson. The Technicians prove they're the real deal. Gama & Hart prove their commitment to making the AWA great again but they've made powerful enemies in Snuka & Kokina. The King overcomes all the craziness to put Rich down for good. Good work tying in the Idol/Keirn feud & Zenk's alliance with Lawler.
-
Steamboat starts the show with a heartfelt goodbye. The Technicians are ready to prove their title reign is the real deal. Idol calls his shot vowing to make Keirn tap out. Borne & Oliver are still hot on the Bruise Brothers trail. Rich is convinced there's foul play going on & it may just be the thing that pushes him to victory. Teamsters get a showcase. Snuka's got no time to parse out what Colon's doing, he's focused on being there for Kokina. Brenda's a little late but at least she's on the right track. Norvell's boys are on a roll but Zenk may put a stop to that. Ferris returns with a splash. Strong technically beats the champ but the belt still eludes him. Round 3 coming up! The King closes the show with a promise to send Rich out of the AWA.
-
Furnas returns to the ring with an impressive display against Chavo Classic. A Simmons/Vicious brawl sounds like a good time to me. Flowers takes advantage of a wounded Brookside. The Malenko brothers bounce back by defeating Black Gold. Sawyer couldn't Hack it against Bret. Despite a spirited effort from Owen, Mr Backlund remains a double Champion.
