The Untouchables have some stiff challenges awaiting them in Champaign. I got a feeling that Savage & Garvin's issues are gonna blow up at the worst possible moment.

We start in Oakland. Coast 2 Coast have an ironclad claim on a Pacific Tag Title shot after Tatum pins Candido. Cactus makes a bloody statement. Red is back & looking to settle the score with Big Bubba. Tracy Smothers cuts a heartfelt promo detailing his previous stint in PCW. The Southern Boys & Coast 2 Coast make a formidable force to go against the Knights Templar. Morton gets some shine. The Diamond Exchange shine in the main event with a victory over Los Guerreros. Onto San Francisco. The younger Gantner truimphs over the second youngest Guerrero. Smothers brings victory home in a stacked 10 man tag. British Steel retain against some Wild competition. Rose needs his new friends to save him from Grizzly. The Bomb Squad fend off the former champs. Bockwinkel & Vicious make quite the visual. Shame it doesn't work as Bock eats the pin. Moving on to Fresno. PCO shows Cactus he knows how to get Wild. SSM foils Young's latest chance to prove himself. Neidhart manages to show some class after a hometown win. The Sawyer brothers use the chain to overcome the Harts. Brookside gives his all to become a double champion, but it was not to be. The Big Bull fends off the challenge of Double J.

The Road Warriors are off & running! Badd Company arrive in style. Kamala & Abby have a clusterfuck of a fight that has the Ugandan Giant standing tall.
-
Simmes earns herself a United States Title match but the Monsters may ensure she doesn't get the chance to cash in. Carranza gets a solid TV win. Medusa gets a chance to flex for the fans. Devine claims victory on her own but would've appreciated the help. McIntyre retains over Moretti who looks ready to take her frustration out on Medusa.

A Mr Olympia win gets the night started off right. But Zhukov brings the good times to a sudden halt. Jackson & Brown go the distance setting the stage for a rematch. Ross gets the win but the Russians get the last word. Travis returned the favor alright. Papa-san always was a sore loser. A distracted ref costs the Nightmares leading to Los Mega Stars capturing the gold. The Cowboys & the Outlaws have a wild one that doesn't settle anything. Fuller gets his payback in a bloody brawl to send the fans home happy. How long was Barnes laying there?
-
Furnas & Brooks are both the kinda guys I can see fitting right in at Mid-South. Robley's Barbarian derails the Freight Train. Eddie & Prichard both get solid wins but Missy is the one everybody's talking about. Wright's chisel leads to another CWA victory. Blanchard shows Kazmaier he's got a lot to learn. Sheepherders beat the champs but don't get the gold thanks to the CWA. The faces (barely) stand tall after a triple dog collar bloodbath.

Taped at the Cumberland County Memorial Auditorium before WCW. Originally airing on 8/21/87 on the USA Network. With your host "The Dean of professional wrestling" Gordon Solie! "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi defeats Dusty Wolfe with a jumping headbutt. Big Daddy Cyrus defeats George South with a spinning side slam. The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) defeat "Tough" Tony Falk & Scorpion with a double dropkick on Scorpion. Main event. Winner challenges for the NWA World Television Title on next week's WCW. "Chief" Joe Lightfoot defeats "Mr Excitement" Johnny Ace with the Indian Death Lock. In other news... After their win, the Killer Bees cut a promo on their feud with the Dirty White Boys. They reveal that they've signed on the dotted line & they'll be meeting the DWB's at the Labor Day Spectacular...in a Southern Street Fight! We see another video hyping the return of Steve Wright revealing he'll make his return on next week's WCW. Solie announces the return of the Starrcade Cup! He says he'll reveal the new format & reveals it shall begin the first WCW after the Spectacular with the finals taking place on October 31st when the NWA presents Fright Night!

From the Cumberland County Memorial Auditorium in Fayetteville NC. Previously recorded/Airing on 8/20/87 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone. Ring announcer: David Crockett. Commando Boone vs Barry O We begin this weeks episode with a new arrival to the NWA, the 6'2 440 lbs Commando Boone. While his long hair & thick beard certainly don't look up to military regulation, he cuts an undoubtedly imposing figure as he marches around ringside wearing camouflage waving old glory to the delight of the fans. As soon as the bell rings, he charges across the ring & crushes Barry with a splash in the corner. O staggers out & is scooped up by Boone who plants him center ring with a slam. No sooner than him bouncing off the mat, Boone is already running the ropes & coming back with a huge splash for the dominating 1...2...3! El Santo Negro vs Ron Slinker Another new comer in the NWA is Ron Slinker. Commentary hype his background as a 13 time karate champion as well as a black belt in Judo. We see a stark contrast in styles as Santo's repeated tries to speed the match up are thwarted by either a stiff kick of a hard throw. In desperation, Santo tries for a springboard move off the ropes but Slinker ducks under it. Impressively, Santo lands on his feet & is able to execute a forward roll before turning around & charging Slinker. Unfortunately the martial arts master was ready with a Roundhouse kick that caught the luchador square in the chest & a quick cover lead to the decisive victory. "Jumping" Joe Savoldi vs Tiger Conway Jr w/Slick Savoldi was clearly upset over how his partner was cheated last week & was looking to balance the scales so to speak. He had Conway rocking throughout with a flurry of high speed, high impact offense. Conway was able to use his experience to create several openings but has trouble keeping anything going against the fired up Savoldi. Slick attempts to turn the tide by tripping Savoldi as he's coming off the ropes but unlike last week, his interference is spotted & he's ejected from ringside. The absence of his manager is the final nail in the coffin for Conway & he falls to a missile dropkick. "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada & "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase vs The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon Commentary explain that Yamada & Hase have bonded over their experiences being in a foreign land & have decided to test the waters in the tag team division. They'll be testing in the deep end however as they've been paired against the former World Tag Team champions. While both japanese stars are more than capable in one-on-one exchanges the superior teamwork of the Andersons repeatedly shines through. This is seen in the finish when a miscue causes the Japanese duo to crash into each other allowing the Andersons to throw Yamada to the floor & hit Hase with a double Gordbuster for the win. After this unsuccessful debut, is the idea of a Yamada/Hase team over before it begins. NWA World Television Title Tom "MegaMan" McGee(c) vs "Golden Boy" Chic Donavon w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel Donovan has been focusing on the tag scene since joining Radiance so this serves as something of a coming out party for what he can do as a singles star. Donovan throws whatever he can think of at the champion determined to bring the first piece of gold to the faction. Between his opponent's skill & the ever present hellcat that is Martel, McGee has his work cut out for him but with the fans behind him he weathers the storm & scores his slingshot legdrop for another successful defense. Road Warrior Hawk w/"Precious" Paul Ellering vs "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda You're never seen two opponents look so drastically different from each other than in this match. The black leather Mad Max inspired look of Hawk collides with the flamboyant, bedazzled appearance of the man from the "Royal Forrest of Dean" who takes his time getting into the ring as he struts about to his self-sung theme "Imagine what I could do to you". Anyone who was expecting to see Hawk tear the prancing Brit apart is sorely disappointed as the World Tag Team Champion is quickly introduced to one of the best kept secrets in wrestling. That underneath all the dancing & glittery face paint, Adrian Street is on of the toughest men in the sport with three decades of experience to back it up. The result is a bruising, stiff & snug match that leaves both men hobbling around in pain. Taking advantage of a chance to turn things in her man's favor, Ms Linda takes advantage of a distracted referee to nail Hawk with her purse. While this has the effect of bringing Ellering over which had Linda backing away nervously, it also causes Hawk to stumble backwards into Street who pulls him down in a crucifix position. Instead of taking the Road Warrior over into a pin however, he grapevines Hawk's right arm while turning the left into a Cobra Clutch. While the Chicago native struggles mightily, he just doesn't have enough left & eventually passed out in the hold. Ms Linda has to help the wheezing Street to his feet but there's no doubt the Commonwealth have sent a powerful message to the champions.

Johnny V is officially the new co-host. We did it! Jackson always shines in Alabama but can he fend off the man who's Uptown? Hey come on Lester, what's the harm in letting Barnes say his piece. THE FIESTA GARDEN IS BACK BABY! Los Mega Stars give the new interviewer a rough welcome. The House of Humperdink has been painted red. Ross is ready to stand up for America. Mr Olympia is coming back & Johnny V is having a fit. The Wildcat is back & the Outlaws may have put their boots in their mouths. Fire & Flame are back in Twin States a day & already made more of an impression then they ever did in the NWA. Resurrection is stacked promising a Southern Street Fight, new tag champs & the return of the Assassin.

I love how Ladd just comes out & says "I'm not enforcing rules because it makes my show more exciting". The announcements keep coming with a gauntlet to crown the Louisiana champion & Mid-South's first PPV. (Note to self: come up for new name for October event) Wright calling Hayes the "head sodomite" cracked me up. Tully brings up a good point, there's no concrete proof he's behind these attacks. The fact that he benefited both times could just be coincidental. Goliath crushes two men showing Robley's monsters are a force alone as well as together. El Jefe lays out they did it for di dinero. But the question is....who is El gringo grande (the big foreigner)? 4 huge names for the gauntlet in Baton Rouge. The Freebirds arrive in Shreveport but Hayes' mouth may have written a check his brothers can't cash.

Gagne & George make a wonderfully obnoxious duo. Cripplers get a good showcase. Colon is done playing around & wants to finish things with Snuka once & for all! Impressive display from the new National tag team champions. The Calgary Flame is back & his sights are set on the TV title. I think Resnick is right, The Glamour Boys have some fight left in them. Dynamite has the biggest opportunity of his career. But Bad News isn't gonna make it easy for him. So the Vin Man is gone & now Kelly is on the Honor Roll. Let's see where this goes. Putski calls out Hickerson. This could definitely backfire. The Teamsters lay down the law. Interesting angle with Kirchner & Barr. Let's see where it goes. The champ sends us off the air with some hard words for Peterson.

Watts returns with a fiery promo & a huge announcement, the tag titles are back baby! Dibiase makes a fair point, all IS fair in a cage. I just know Embry is going to regret that. Muta wastes no time making it known he's coming for the top prize. A fued with Murdoch will do wonders for Vader. -
To be fair to Kamala & Abby, of course it's going to be hard for two guys who don't talk to function as a team. Still an impressive win for Ware & Adams. The Rockers show the Express what their in for. I didn't know WCPW had its own Special Forces. The Rockers cost the Express the match but the real story is how long before Savage & Garvin have a talk about his using Elizabeth as a crash pad. K&K get a nice showcase. Casey & Irwin come close but the underhand tactics of Jones keeps them from the titles... for now. What a main event! The Untouchables win but the debut of the Road Warriors changes everything!

Eddie Guerrero vs Jeff Jarrett is a match i could've seen on Nitro as a kid & i just think that's neat. St Clair defeats the always capable Mando. Haynes sticks up for his friend while the MNE/British steel feud carries on. Huge win for Sabu as he finally gets his long sought win over Black Tiger. Severn manages to corral Cactus long enough to get the victory. Another classic tag team 2/3 falls main event from PCW.

The Southern Boys & Coast 2 Coast give the fans a hot opener with Smothers getting whatever he had against Victory out of his system. The Diamond Exchange get a credible win over Los Guerreros. The Dingo/Hito rivalry is renewed with Dingo taking the upper hand for now. Rose's new Playboy Club recruits prove themselves against their disgruntled predecessors. Young just can't catch a break lately. The younger Gantner may have failed to capture the Heavyweight Title but he got the nod of respect from Bockwinkel.

NWA releases Tiger Jeet Singh. NWA signs Grizzly Boone.
-
Diamond is building quite the Exchange with the addition of the Sawyers. R.I.P Percy Pringle the 3rd, Long live Paul Bearer! I gotta admit, I assumed AoD was meant for Bearer so seeing him with Rose caught me by surprise. Same with seeing the Playboy turn on PCO & Grizzly. The Suicide Blondes collide but aren't able to settle their differences...yet. SSM returns in style defeating a spirited Barr. Hennig's surge to the top continues by beating big bad Hughes.
-
Medusa is halfway to being able to trade in the TV title with a win over Nellie. Combs reasserts herself at the expense of Hosaka. Moretti gets herself a solid season match win. Richter & The Monster's may be the most terrifying trios champions ever. Moretti tops the scoreboard but she's got some major competition just behind her.
-
Southern & Robley's monsters get solid wins. Wright & Stevens take down the Baron. Missy's got all the men's attention and it's driving Eddie nuts. Steiner gives a good fight but Bam Bam is too much to handle right now. Tully takes the cheap win against Wahoo. JYD claims vengeance on Uncle Ivan. Speaking of whom, he bails out nephew Nikita & the night ends with a pier-six brawl. Certainly feels like Mid-South.

NWA Live at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Jacksonville FL 8/18/87 "Super Rookie Hiroshi Hase wins a 20 man battle royal to challenge for the NWA United States Title in the main event. The Commonwealth (Adrian Street & Bill Dundee) defeat Two local talents with "Bomb's Away" by Dundee. Paul Ellering was seen observing from the aisle way. Big Daddy Cyrus defeats "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi with a spinning side slam. "Mr Excitement" Johnny Ace defeats Jimmy Del Ray w/"Sensational" Sherri Martel with the "Ace Crusher". Good & Plenty (Ray Candy & Sweet Brown Sugar) defeat The Dirty White Boys (Len Denton & Tony Anthony) when a distraction from The Killer Bees lead to SBS pinning Anthony with a backslide. Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley, Tiger Conway Jr & Iceman Parsons) w/Slick The S&S Express (Joe Savoldi &Shaun Simpson) & "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez when Slick distracted the referee allowing Stan Hansen to run in & hit Fernandez with the Lariat letting Parsons get the pin. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes defeats Ole Anderson w/JJ Dillon by DQ when Buddy Landel ran in & attacked Rhodes. NWA United States Title. Stan The Lariat Hansen(c) defeats "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase after powering out of the "Scorpion Death Lock" & hitting the Lariat. Hansen looked to continue assaulting Hase after the bell but Manny Fernandez ran down & a massive pull-apart brawl broke out which took the entire security team to break up. The whole time, the crowd was chanting "let them fight".

NWA Live at the "Old" Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte NC 8/16/87 The debuting Ron Slinker defeats a local talent with a Roundhouse kick. "The Haitian Sensation" Tyree Pride vs Zodiac ends in a 10 minute time limit draw. "Chief" Joe Lightfoot defeats El Santo Negro after hitting him in the leg with his "war club" then applying the Indian Death Lock. "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada defeats Angel of Death with the "Shooting Star Press". The Stud Stable (Robert Fuller & Jimmy Golden) defeat The Killer Bees (B.Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) after a distraction from the Dirty White Boys allow the Studs to hit Blair with a Spike Piledriver. NWA World Tag Team Titles. The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal)(c) w/ "Precious" Paul Ellering defeat Tough Guy Inc (Don Bass & Duke Myers) w/Big Daddy Cyrus after pinning Myers with the "Doomsday Device". Ms Linda was seen observing from the aisle way. NWA World Heavyweight Title. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair(c) defeats Arn Anderson w/JJ Dillon in a absolute clinic that sees Anderson submit to the Figure Four. Huge hometown pop for the World Champion.

Venomous starts the night with a major win. Blackwell crushes the Beast. Larry Z breaks out a devastating new finisher against the Corporal. Fleming's rear naked choke is as effective as ever. Congratulations to the new National tag team champions, The Technicans. Busick wins one hell of a slugfest to retain his title. Polynesian Power stands tall after a grueling battle with Iaukea's Killers. The incredible reign of El Canek is over thanks to...Greg Gagne, Mike George & Gama Singh. Did NOT see that coming. Thanks to the numbers game, the Bruise Brothers retain. Bad News sends shockwaves through the AWA by defeating Ricky Steamboat. And now what we've all been waiting for, WAR GAMES! Heels win the coin toss because obviously. Love that every time a heel enters the face their feuding with is right behind them. It's also funny to me how the entering heel is knocked on his but while the faces all clear house. Great chaotic ending with the despised Rich being the one to surrender. Another great Spaldoni supershow!

The Irish McNeil's Boys Club! The Revolution is seemingly through as Mid-South is going back to its roots.Ladd cements that by announcing the return of the Louisiana title. Pissed off Koloffs aren't good for anybody, especially anybody holding a title. Col. Buckley & his monsters aren't finished with the Freebirds yet. JYD is frothing mad & Wahoo gets personal with Ivan. Ron Wright & the CWA are also on the Freebirds trail. But it seems the line starts behind Gilbert who's looking to defend his lady's "honor". Speaking of Missy, looks like she's got her eye on Prichard. El Jefe is in Mid-South & his Cartel looks more dangerous than ever.
