  2. I am pretty sure the Birds came out to music in Memphis when they were there in late 79. KHawk can answer the Buck question. You're right about All Japan.
  3. He hasn't done anything ban worthy.
  4. http://www.flairchop.com/archives/950 Good Will Wrestling this time around takes a look at this weekend’s big Dragon Gate USA shows as Will and Rob Naylor (who – full-disclosure – is the newest member of the Dragon Gate USA announce team, joining Lenny Leonard in the booth) run down the Boston, Long Island and New York City lineups and give listeners a look at what’s in store for this huge weekend. If you are thinking of ordering these shows or attending them live, this is a must-listen primer course on the promotion/athletes/stories and what to expect. Even if you aren’t thinking of ordering the shows, give this show a listen and perhaps you’ll have a change of heart and give the promotion a shot. Warning: this show contains LOTS of Naylor marking out over PAC.
  5. He did do that. Bret and pat came across as really cool guys. Yeah, if not Lawler then at the very least, the Memphis promotion. The Freebirds might be the first act to come out to music but the earliest wrestling videos I have come out of Memphis.
  6. I am going through 1992 USWA right now and the Moondogs vs. Lawler & Jarrett was the dominant feud for the entire year.
  7. Funk-Flair was watched. Didn't make the cut.

  9. JUst calling TNA one of the Big 2 depresses me.
  10. I agree with this. Punk was working on the leg and setting Ryan up to kee Kane grounded and he goes to the Stampede and Bearhug... the two moves he was taught. Punk was working for two in this one. Did any wrestler besides Punk do any subtle tributes to Macho Man?
  11. Oh, and no Macho Man Tribute?
  12. Man, it looks like I left right when I should have stayed glued to my seat.
  13. I think the mentality is we will put all of these green wrestlers with a sober guy who knows how to work. It's all I got. Anyway, my stream cut out and I have to go running so continue to post thoughts on the show!!!
  14. CM Punk & Mason Ryan vs. Big Show & Kane - Punk and Ryan had a sound strategy when going after the knee but Ryan is so so bad. I did mark out for the Oklahoma Stampede though. Punk does his personal tribute to Macho Man but misses the flying elbow. I don't think Ryan should even be on TV but why pin the guy if you expect him to be a monster?
  15. I think Chavo may have been legit injured. It may have played into the shitty finish.
  16. Did they do a Macho Man tribute at the beginning? I missed the first 5 minutes. R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio - Decent but short opener. Truth took a nasty bump early on outside the ring followed by a Rey rana. The end was never really in doubt since they have been pushing Truth lately Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson - Crowd didn't give a shit about this match. I tried to stay engaged but not good at all. I know some people put too much emphasis on strikes and others don't mind at all but this had some of the shittiest strikes and selling of said strikes I have ever seen. Jackson gives Barrettt 5 bodyslams to Barrett which gets the crowd into it and he was about to hit his finisher before the Corre runs in for the DQ. What shitty booking. This should have been power move after power move. Instead, once Zeke starts to catch some fire, they end it. Whatever. Hey they got the bodyslam over! Punk & Nexus Vignette - Punk is so wasted with these guys. Still, telling Otunga and Hennig to walk off their injuries gave me a chuckle. Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero - I'll say this about Sin Cara, when either he or Chavo is out of place, he finds a way to follow through and hit something. I think I miss some of that improvisation in matches. I don't like the darkened arena feel to his matches though. Oh well, ugly finish to a so-so match.
  17. The next GWW episode was going to cover Savage's career. We will still do the show but I'll have to think about how I am going to approach it. Man, this sucks
  18. At least 150 students every year at my high school know who the Beatles are (or are at least exposed to them). I am pleasantly surprised to find plenty of kids who already know who they are before my Beatles Celebration Week. Usually, the hip hop / rap kids have no clue and don't care but the rock kids, burnouts, and nerds have at least an awareness of who they were.
  19. Damn, if you are going to watch a 12 minute Andre match then watch Andre vs. Hansen. If you are going to watch a Hogan spectacle, watch Hogan vs. Rock. Anyway, since wrestling is so compartmentalized, i would love to hear opinions on the following... Must see cage match Must see high flyers match (if anyone says Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid, I am banning you. You have been warned. I am not bringing that played out discussion here) Must see match with blood Must see mat work Must see gimmick match Must see world title bout Must see 1970s match Must see 1980s match Must see 1990s match Must see tag match I know it would be real easy to just put "see above" on some of these, but if a match defines the cage, try to find another match to define the 80s even if your first inclination is to just have Tully vs. Magnum cover both.

  22. Corre vs. Big Show + Kane - Bleh. John Cena vs. John Morrison vs. The Miz - Like my 4th or 5th favorite match of the show but still ten times better than the Wrestlemania main. They played to their strengths with Morrison playing Spider-Man and getting taken out by Truth. Miz and Cena both took some big bumps but my favorite bump was the MOrrison into the cage and slinking between the cage and ropes. Cena wins the title but I think it was the right call. Overall, awesome PPV and well worth the three hours.
  23. Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio (Ladder Match) - This was a solid ladder match early on but nothing really remarkable. Then ADR starts attacking and working on Christian's arm and then I was hooked. Cool spot after cool spot of ADR tearing Christian's arm. Loved ADR fishhooking Christian's mouth while holding an armbar. The last ten minutes were freaking awesome in terms of building drama and casting doubt on who would win and this match was better than anything on Wrestlemania. Kudos for Christian!!!
  24. Layla vs. McCool - We give the Divas shit for not wrestling worth a shit but this was pretty solid. Again, the crowd didn't give a shit but they busted thier ass. The real story was which Layla finisher would put McCool out. I thought the Diamond Dust had a shot and the sick Rude Awakening as well. Kharma debuts after the match and I like the way they had the entire DIva locker room watching the monitor looking scared shitless.
  25. Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes (Falls Count Anywhere) - They tried their hardest and while I enjoyed the Mania match, I thought this one smoked that one. It sucks that they didn't go Tupelo Concession Brawl when they went to the arena but they did some cool spots. I wished they would have had the finish out of the ring but the match still gets a thumbs up.
