  1. I'll fully admit my ignorance to all things politics, but reading some you guys posts have made the situation a lot more clear to me. I read the intial article and I was picturing Average Joe on his day off going to the booth in his blue jeans, sneakers, and CENATION t-shirt and being told that he's not allowed to vote because he's wearing a WWE related T-shirt.
  2. Voters in CT can't wear WWE clothing because it supposedly constitutes political marketing. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's ridiculous and almost borderline discrimination.
  3. I think Raven put it best when talking about "negotiating" a finish in WCW, it was largely the same principal that Loss was describing. He'd be told that they'd want him to put over a mid carder who really wasn't going anywhere and that they really had no plans for. He'd argue that it made no sense because he was higher up on the card and they weren't going to do a program between them.
  4. I'd guess Eddie too. Cornette in 1988 hadn't had an previous booking tenures.
  5. How Missy Hyatt for the inaugural inductee in the journalists wing?
  6. The first time my wife (then girlfriend) went to a show with me, the main event was Abyss vs. Spike Dudley, and she almost had a heart attack when Abyss did the Black Hole Slam on the tacks and saw them sticking out of Spike. She told me later she knew that it was scripted but always figured there was some sort of trick with the chairs, tables, tacks, etc, so they didn't get hurt. The combo of that, and seeing my best friend's chest all red and bleeding after he had the ship chopped out of him made her learn really quick how "fake" it actually is.
  7. Maybe it's just me, but I'm really annoyed that Cena is still using his own music and wearing CENATION merchandise, aside from the Nexus wristband.
  8. Which goes back to my point, it's all a work. Not to mention that Lex *had* won the big one, at the '91 Great American Bash. I do agree with Sek's point, that Lex looked like a moron celebrating when he won by count out. Although it wasn't an uncommon thing in the WWF during the '80's and '90's for the workers to forget that titles only changed hands on pin and submission. I'd say that Lex was one of the first big examples of Vince not getting behind something that wasn't his creation. After the Summerslam '93 match, he was more or less strung along until WrestleMania, which saw Vince go back to Bret. Then he went on to feud with Tatanka, and then formed the team with Davey, that ended when Davey turned heel.
  9. I never understood SKeith's old talking point about how Summerslam '93 cemented Luger as a choke artist. The sport is a work, Luger/Yoko wasn't any different. Between Luger's well documented greatness in 1989 as well as watching his WCW stuff throughout 1996-97, it's clear he could still go and there was genuine fan interest in him. I haven't seen it since shortly after it happened, but the Luger/Hogan Title switch on Nitro sticks out as one of Nitro's greatest moments. Not to hijack this into a full blown Luger thread, but just to gauge some opinions, how does everyone think Lex would have fared had he stuck around the WWF in '95? I obviously don't see him reaching the same heights he did in WCW. I could see a feud with the Bulldog at the horizon, and maybe a heel turn to work with Shawn. But, I'm at a loss for what else they could have conceivably done with him.
  10. I suppose Bret feuding with the evil Pirate Jean Pierre Laffite over him "stealing" Bret's jacket is more realistic to you?
  11. It's easy to see why he got over so quickly in '89. He and Spivey were almost Goldberg-like in their dominance. It didn't hurt that they were killing acts that the fans weren't especially fond of, such as the Ding Dongs and Dynamic Dudes.
  12. I was watching Clash of Champions 8 last night, and I couldn't believe the babyface pop that Lex Luger got for his match against Tommy Rich. Especially coming off the Steamboat feud. Did he do anything especially dickish or heelish after the Steamboat turn leading up to the babyface turn the next year? I seem to have a memory of Flair and Sting each receiving some sort of trophy, which Luger breaks (as is the norm in wrestling) but I may have the wrong time frame in mind. Edit: Nevermind, it was actually Clash 9 where he did that.
  13. I love Heenan losing his mind after Perfect gets the pin, screaming that he beat the wrong Doink. When he get called out for admitting there are two Doinks he backpedals to saying that Hennig was wrong to beat Doink.
  14. I'm all for Cena being a full blown heel, but I'm with SLL as far as what to really do with him. The only babyface on RAW currently seen as his level is Orton, and Orton/Cena is far from a fresh program, even with roles reversed. Any word on how long until HHH is due back. I could seriously dig an angle where HHH makes his big return, like in 2002, only for Nexus to spoil it and attack him with Cena being forced to join in. Then leading to a PPV with HHH vs. Barrett, with Cena's freedom from Nexus at stake, only for Cena to help Barrett win to go complete heel.
  15. Vince threatened to fire Austin if he messed up the Judgment Day '98 Taker/Kane match for the WWF Title where Austin was special ref. He still stunned them both and called himself the winner.
  16. The only problem I have, for now, with the Cena angle is that he was still wearing the CENATION shirt, hat, and wristbands. Sek, I'm pretty sure Tarver is out (now they just need to drop Otunga), since Barrett's comment included the line that he wanted to get rid of him anyway.
  17. RE, with all your talk about realisim, what did you think of the Maxx Paine/Johnny B Badd feud from '93, where Badd was shot and "disfigured" by a confetti gun?
  18. What does being a "strong house show worker" even mean? That he was good for live crowds without stringent time constraints? As a sixteen and seventeen year old mark, I was a big fan of the guy, because he was portrayed as a bad ass who talked smack and then backed it up.
  19. 1 point for RE on that one. Lawler didn't start until 1970, so it was Lawler working Byer-like spots.
  20. Oh come on, dude, that's a total copout. You don't have to go back and watch anything. You can't come up with a single solitary memory of a match, angle, interview that you found to be eye rollingly bad?
  21. RE, I say this with all sincerity, not to bust your chops like others seem to. Please elaborate on the biggest stupidest, roll your eyes pet peeves that you found when watching varous Memphis stuff.
  22. That's nothing new, though. One of his comments about ECW under Eddie Gilbert's booking was that it wasn't a good product and "very Memphis"
  23. Kurt Angle talks about that in his RF Shoot Interview. Bump training from Dory consisted of something like 300 per day, and all the guys would be an agony at the end of it.
  24. Marty winning the IC Title and "The Kid" upsetting Razor are two of my all time favorite crowd pops for anything, and they happened on the same night at the same show.
  25. What's even funnier to me than the idea of them running without a ring, was the reason behind it. That the guy who they were getting the ring from got beat up outside a club the night before. Is the indy scene turning into 1980's New Japan, with the mob being involved?
