  1. I would imagine that it's the narrow mindset that any match involving a ref bump, interference, etc. is automatically ruined.
  2. This the same guy who claimed that the booking of the Flair/Kerry cage match was horrible. It's obvious he doesn't know his ass from his elbow.
  3. Blue Panther vs. Love Machine from April '92
  4. How about Norman Smiley?
  5. Don't forget Manabu Nakanishi.
  6. It was only for a week. He KO'd Sandman with a GTS to turn. Then a week later, he was buddying up to the New Breed and then turned on Burke at the end. Actually a bit similar to when he turfed Barrett from Nexus.
  7. At the risk of sounding like a parrot. I'm a wrestling fan. I know what I like and what I don't, and I like to think for myself. I think the most annoying thing about ROH diehards is when Meltzer or Keith give an ROH match a high rating, and they'd point to that as being "proof" that it really as a great match.

  9. Something I thought of during a little email exchange with Ditch. For as long as he's been using the STF(U) as one of his finishers, Cena really applies the hold like shit. Is there anyone else that anyone can think of who has worked holds so poorly and uses them as a main move or a finish?
  10. WWE did that a few times before with Shawn, I'm specifically remembering during his time teaming with Cena before WM 23, there was a video on RAW of all the various times he'd turned on partners.
  11. Perhaps nobody is confident that Cole, who isn't a trained wrestler, can take it safely?
  12. I just finished the Al Snow "Guest Booker" DVD. It's not as bad as the Mike Graham version, only because Al isn't completely full of shit. But you definitely get the impression that Al is out of touch with how things work, he makes statements such as saying that Hogan/Andre was the best match of WM3 because that's what drew the house. He also harps over and over again on the fact that people who aren't in the business don't know shit about it.
  13. Bad wording on my part, Bix. I meant the angle as a whole of Sting getting turfed from the Horsemen.
  14. Clash X (the first Clash I ever saw not on tape), Ole telling Sting that he's out of the Horsemen.
  15. Jericho vs. Goldberg from Badd Blood (I believe) 2003 was pretty damn good. WAY better than the quickie squash of Jericho they'd have had in 1998.
  16. Loss or Will, do you guys have any sort of idea what all years will be covered with the year books? If you intend on doing the year 2000, then I'd advise the Misawa/Akiyama TC match from this year. It'd be an interesting comparison to Akiyama's first win over Misawa in 2000. Standalone, though, it didn't do much for me.
  17. One thing I miss about those days were how long wrestlers would sell for. Yoko put Duggan on the shelf until the spring, and he was still so hurt that Bam Bam beat him pretty easily during King of the Ring. If they did this same angle on RAW, the injury would last all of two weeks tops.
  18. That's discussed in "The Death of WCW" as well. Hall was supposedly telling people there was no chance of him ever getting fired because of his capacity as a witness in the lawsuit.
  19. I don't really recall it being mentioned until 'Taker faced Orton at 'Mania 21.
  20. There's a kid up here who's been working for about a year, under the name Kevin Graham. A friend of mine and I decided that his finisher should be "The Graham Cracker"
  21. All the fun in this thread actually made me dig out the first volume of the Tiger Mask set I got from IVP something like two years ago. After watching the first match the only positive I can take away from it is that Sayama's mask was much shittier than their work.
  22. I totally agree, which was why I mentioned matches like the '81 Tag League with the Funks against Brody/Snuka and the two classics from '76. I was just saying that I could see the point that Dave and RE were trying to make. I don't agree with it at all, how exactly one is supposed to put themselves 'in the '80's' is beyond me.
  23. I'm not saying that I agree with them, but I do see the point that Dave and RE are trying to make here. Sayama vs. DK was a great 1982 match, but not so much for us 2011 nitpicky bastards. The same way that Daniel Bryan is putting on great matches in 2011, but the jdw's of 2041 (and I don't mean that in a mean way, John) may think he sucks.
  24. This. There's a reason that Baba/Destroyer from '69, Jumbo/Terry from '76, Baba/Robinson from '76, The Funks vs. Brody/Snuka from December '81, and countless others are still considered great matches more than 20-30 years later. While Sayama's matches, as admittedly revolutionary are they were, generally (RE's exception noted) aren't.
