JR's blog made it pretty clear that the whole thing was a work to continue the heel Michael Cole thing. But Lawler sure seemed like he was getting legit angry. He said in his book that he doesn't go to production meetings and stuff, so maybe he had no idea that Cole was gonna do it.

Last night's RAW could have been attrocious, but I think it turned out pretty good. The old ring, music, set, logos, etc. really made the show feel fresh. My only complaint was that they didn't run the show at MSG and use the ring mic that hangs from the ceiling.

I don't recall the exact quote offhand, John, but the context was that he was talking about hanging out with Meltzer and threw in that he was chilling with Meltzer and "John Williams" -
I started loling when Lawler told Cole that he could write his life story on a piece of confetti.

Yeah, AJ once called a fan at an ROH show if Buffalo "fhehggit."

I didn't feel like bumping the mythbusters thread since the Von Erich talk was way back in the beginning of it, so here's a few observations regarding the Von Erichs as I've watched Will's comp. 1. The booking was tremendous, David helping the Freebirds win the six man titles and then graciously stepping aside so Buddy can have a share of the title, only hours before they cost Kerry the world title. 2. Kerry really does look to be the best of the boys as far as inside the ring goes. I'm especially digging his footwork, such as the little shuffle he does when he gets into the ring and when he's making the big comeback. 3. Why was Kerry allowed to talk on the microphone? His promos all sound like he's on Neptune, even what should be an angry fired up one soon after the cage match. 4. I can see why people seem to think David was the best. He really seemed to have an aura about him like he was headed for bigger things. Plus, he seemed to be good on the microphone. -
Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists

Aside from him explaining a "heel" is someone who only acts like an asshole, I have no clue what he's talking about. -

Some sad news today, Joe Higuchi passed away today at the age of 81. -
I always got a kick out of the little angle from Guilty as Charged 2000 when Tajiri was supposed to wrestle Super Crazy in a Dream Partner match, but Corino chose Crazy as Tajiri's partner.

The quoted part is totally on the money, Jingus, but the fact is that those aren't really the reasons why most companies don't want employees posting shit online. It's more aimed to prevent me going onto my facebook and saying "I fucking hate working at the McDonalds on Erie Blvd in Syracuse. My managers name is John Smith and he's a douchebag" There was a story in the news a month or two ago when a guy went on his twitter and commented how a local grocery store chain wasn't at good as its competitor. A corporate rep saw the post and went off her rocker and tried to contact the person's employer and get them in trouble. The guy showed the whole thing to his SU professor who called the media and bang! Three days straight on the local news about the awful grocery store who can't take criticism. -

People within wrestling always seem to think that people not involved don't know shit about shit when it comes to wrestling. I saw something like that on my local indy fed's board. One of the wrestlers, who didn't even have one match under his belt at the time, went off on another poster with that point. He basically told him that if he really knew anything then he'd be involved in wrestling and not buying tickets and DVDs. -
Listen to some of Paul Heyman's commentary during Albert's little 2001 singles push.

I seem to recall reading somewhere, a long time ago, that Goldberg wanted to include the Star of David on his trunks while he was in WCW.

Watching the Invasion PPV really shows how bad WWF screwed up this angle. The crowd at the PPV was red-hot for everything the whole night, even the joke of a match between Earl Hebner and Nick Patrick. Also, as far as X-Pac heat goes, William Regal got booed even worse than X-Pac at the PPV.

Linda McMahon for Senate catch-all thread
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I'll fully admit my ignorance to all things politics, but reading some you guys posts have made the situation a lot more clear to me. I read the intial article and I was picturing Average Joe on his day off going to the booth in his blue jeans, sneakers, and CENATION t-shirt and being told that he's not allowed to vote because he's wearing a WWE related T-shirt. -
Linda McMahon for Senate catch-all thread

Voters in CT can't wear WWE clothing because it supposedly constitutes political marketing. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's ridiculous and almost borderline discrimination. -
I think Raven put it best when talking about "negotiating" a finish in WCW, it was largely the same principal that Loss was describing. He'd be told that they'd want him to put over a mid carder who really wasn't going anywhere and that they really had no plans for. He'd argue that it made no sense because he was higher up on the card and they weren't going to do a program between them.

I'd guess Eddie too. Cornette in 1988 hadn't had an previous booking tenures.

How Missy Hyatt for the inaugural inductee in the journalists wing?

The first time my wife (then girlfriend) went to a show with me, the main event was Abyss vs. Spike Dudley, and she almost had a heart attack when Abyss did the Black Hole Slam on the tacks and saw them sticking out of Spike. She told me later she knew that it was scripted but always figured there was some sort of trick with the chairs, tables, tacks, etc, so they didn't get hurt. The combo of that, and seeing my best friend's chest all red and bleeding after he had the ship chopped out of him made her learn really quick how "fake" it actually is.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm really annoyed that Cena is still using his own music and wearing CENATION merchandise, aside from the Nexus wristband.

Which goes back to my point, it's all a work. Not to mention that Lex *had* won the big one, at the '91 Great American Bash. I do agree with Sek's point, that Lex looked like a moron celebrating when he won by count out. Although it wasn't an uncommon thing in the WWF during the '80's and '90's for the workers to forget that titles only changed hands on pin and submission. I'd say that Lex was one of the first big examples of Vince not getting behind something that wasn't his creation. After the Summerslam '93 match, he was more or less strung along until WrestleMania, which saw Vince go back to Bret. Then he went on to feud with Tatanka, and then formed the team with Davey, that ended when Davey turned heel.

I never understood SKeith's old talking point about how Summerslam '93 cemented Luger as a choke artist. The sport is a work, Luger/Yoko wasn't any different. Between Luger's well documented greatness in 1989 as well as watching his WCW stuff throughout 1996-97, it's clear he could still go and there was genuine fan interest in him. I haven't seen it since shortly after it happened, but the Luger/Hogan Title switch on Nitro sticks out as one of Nitro's greatest moments. Not to hijack this into a full blown Luger thread, but just to gauge some opinions, how does everyone think Lex would have fared had he stuck around the WWF in '95? I obviously don't see him reaching the same heights he did in WCW. I could see a feud with the Bulldog at the horizon, and maybe a heel turn to work with Shawn. But, I'm at a loss for what else they could have conceivably done with him.

I suppose Bret feuding with the evil Pirate Jean Pierre Laffite over him "stealing" Bret's jacket is more realistic to you?
