  1. When I was like 14 or 15, Inside Wrestling ran a Q&A question I had sent for somebody, I think Shane Douglas, so I can confirm that at least in one instance, a letter they ran was legit.
  2. Luger beat Yoko by countout in August '93. He won the WCW title in August of '97. Four years is an eternity in pro wrestling. Luger was red-hot as a babyface chasing Hogan that summer. I'd say the title reign was more than deserved.
  3. After reading Dave's bio and some other things, it seems clear to me that Savage had "fuck you" money and didn't want to make a comeback with Vince or anywhere else on the indy scene. I mean, from everything we've read about Savage, he seemed like the kind of guy who would get slighted very easily. For all we know, he might have still been pissed about Billionaire Ted skits years later and refused to go back to Vince on account of it. It's kind of a shame that Vince and Randy never got back together, but I think it seems obvious that this was what Randy wanted, not Vince.
  4. I don't think anybody would doubt that Christian getting a haircut was one of the best things for his career. He looked like so much more of a job guy with long hair than he does with short hair.
  5. I was going to say, I thought he put the "shit" in "shit."
  6. Thanks. I think my problem is, I try to do too much in these segments, and it becomes more about remembering everything that I need to say than it does about trying to say everything in a natural way. I'm hoping that as the weeks progress, it becomes less about remembering everything that I need to do in these segments and more about how I can make them more entertaining. This week, I just got to tool on my friend, and that comes naturally to me, so that was easy enough. Cornette actually made a "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" video in SMW, which is where I got the idea. I had a lot of fun putting that music video together, I'd kind of like to do more of these using footage from future shows, but this one came to me in a bit of inspiration after the show. Yeah...I cringe when I watch myself at the end of this one. First, I had no immediate reaction to the guy in the prison jumpsuit attacking the heavyweight champion during our interview. Then I yell at Bubba and kinda make him look like a pussy when he doesn't attack me for talking out of line. Overall, probably my worst performance to date, and a good example of why I should probably try to stick to playing straight man in stand-ups with Grimaldi for a while, or failing that, channel my inner-Lance Russell. But I did like Biggie's promo here, because I think it set up our next few months of main events - Biggie wrestling Bubba and then Legion (well, it wound up being Big Rig when Legion got hurt, but they're both members of Devastation LLC) and then Twiggy Ramirez after that. So if we accomplished anything, it's that we set up our next few months of main events and got over the arm injury before the Bubba match to make people think that Bubba could win the title, so even if I kinda stunk, at least the other participants held up their end of the bargain.
  7. I don't think it's going to be an AWA in 1985-style raid. They're probably just going to bring in a couple of guys who can work with Sin Cara. He's an HHH project, which Vince made public on the recent investor's call, so they have a lot riding on making sure Sin Cara is a success. Bringing in 2-3 guys who can work with Sin Cara until he gets used to working WWE style isn't a raid, it's a good idea.
  8. This is one of my favorite Smoky Mountain matches ever and really opened my eyes to how awesome the Dirty White Boy was, and how much of a bastard he can be. I'll admit that it's probably not one of the best matches of all time, but it's one of my personal favorites.
  9. The Bodies had wrestled the Studs in a #1 contender's match and the Studs had won, but when it was time to get their title shot, the Studs had four flat tires and the Bodies stole the title match and beat the Rock 'n' Roll for the belts.
  10. None of the contracts WWE brought over from WCW were high dollar figures at all - most were guys like Mike Sanders, Reno, etc, guys you wouldn't expect to be getting paid a ton. I'd bet most of the contracts they didn't take were under the Turner Home Entertainment umbrella (where Bischoff used to stash guys like Hall, Nash, Sting, etc) and not technically associated with the Universal Wrestling Corporation banner.
  11. That $10 million figure was probably put out there to make it seem like ROH was a much more valuable piece of property than it is, without being technically incorrect. I mean, if they paid $50 for ROH, that's still under $10 million.
  12. Oh 1989 Dave. Wajima didn't die, he was fired. He still turned 42.
  13. "Ooooooooh yeah" has an extremely strong case as being the best catchphrase ever. It's either that or "Whatcha gonna do?"
  14. It's pretty tragic that they never got to induct Savage based on whatever personal issues Savage had with Vince (and I don't think I buy the Stephanie thing at all). If Vince learns anything from this, it's that if somebody clearly belongs in the WWE Hall of Fame, not to drag his feet and induct the guy, because in an industry where far too few wrestlers make it to 50, let alone 60 or 70, this may not be the last time a clearly deserving wrestler passes away before he can enjoy induction while alive.
  15. As much as I like Savage, I'm not sure I'd call that a choice. WWF clearly didn't want to use him, and the few times he worked for TNA, he seemed to burn his bridge pretty quickly.
  16. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere they come to snuff the rooster, awwww yeeeeeeeeeah heeeeeeeeeey yeah...
  17. So Brick Tamland wasn't making that up? Bears really do sense the menstruation?
  18. Considering the time Dave and Bryan spent about this a few months ago when they had Mantell on, and the discussion of "scam vs. not a scam" that was taking place, you'd think they'd have more to say about it considering so much of what Mantell was promising failed to come through, as most reasonable people assumed when this first started.
  19. Agree on the Joe Rules - I kinda wish he'd get away from the Sheen stuff, but he's having fun with it, and it's not bad, so what can you do. The match itself was originally really supposed to be a tag team match as Biggie had another engagement originally for this date, but it turns out he was able to make the show after all, so we decided to make it a six man and use it as a showcase for Bubba, and to kick off the Twiggy/Bravo feud. Good call on the dropkick. Apparently Ripper's knee briefly went out during the dropkick and poor Savage Payne ate it right in the junk. The good thing, though, is that me and the commissioner jibber-jabbering on commentary covered up for the fact that Ripper very loudly yelled "FUCK!" when his knee went out, so if our commentary has achieved nothing, it has censored a wrestler yelling an expletive. Savage Payne was new to the YouTube channel, though not to UWC. He was part of the company like 13 years ago, retired for a number of years, and this was his return. That chop that Lassiter threw on him was way worse in the building than it appeared on video, the crowd was still buzzing over it a few minutes later. I really liked Silly Billy in his match too, and Patera is pretty much the definition of a good hand.
  20. I wonder if the producers of Pro Stars picked Bo because they were too lazy to add both a football player and a baseball player to the show, so it was easiest to add one player who did both.
  21. Beatles Rock Band was a pretty big success in 2009, and the Rock Band games are typically played by kids.
  22. Does it really matter who formatted the table? Plenty of good writers don't know how to properly format a table. At least Dave is finally making attempts to improve the look of the Observer. That should be commended, even if it's something as small as adding a table.
  23. Oh great, so now the Phoenix Theater has a Doug Gilbert list like IWA Mid South?
  24. Thanks SLL. Always like reading your reviews, and I appreciate your feedback. We just ran Twiggy vs. Bravo this past week on UWC Championship Wrestling, and I think that's a Bravo match you'll like a bit more, as it really felt at the end of it, Bravo came out of the match with a lot more respect from the crowd after having a good match with Twiggy. Also, there was a Bivians/Bravo match at a UWC show that I didn't put up as television (but will probably air during the summer, as our last show until September is June 4th) that I think was pretty good, too. BTW, I think you'll like what I'm doing this summer, since I received what can only be called the UWC back catalog of footage from the promoter, so I have all sorts of Unholy Alliance matches that haven't been seen before that I'll be airing this summer, and I'm going to work with Lassiter and Ripper on a Best of the Unholy Alliance DVD this summer as well. As for that match, while I'm not surprised you liked it knowing how you feel about both teams, I can say that you probably liked it more than the wrestlers themselves - I'm sure you noticed the botched spot where Garrison landed on his head, on what he thought was a back bodydrop and what Unholy thought was supposed to be a flapjack. He actually went to the hospital after the match and it was a bit of a scary situation. Between that and the commissioner not getting a solid cue for where he had to be, which caused the interference to get mucked up some, both teams went to the back less than happy with their match. I like to think that I'm getting less stiff as we move forward. I wouldn't say I'm a natural actor or anything, but I'm slowly feeling more at ease with the camera on. Episode 11 (Orphan and Warhead vs Legion and Big Rig, Unholy Alliance vs Silly Billy and Rudo the Heel): Episode 12 (Bravo vs. Twiggy):
  25. I think the best part was TNA teasing that Jeff Hardy was going to be there teaming with Matt, and instead it was Chris Harris. Way to set up the biggest letdown in history, TNA! Although, I guess it does play off of Matt Hardy and Braden Walker's backstage vignette from ECW remembered by nobody.
