I wanted to watch the match these teams had at Driven, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I appreciate the fact that these guys didn't just put on a t-shirt and denim shorts, tape their fists, and pretend they were at a street fight. This thing is a proper fight. It's a bit long, and less interesting once they get in the ring, which is par for the course with these types of matches, but the ringside brawling was great. I got sick of the Ooohs after a while. It made the rhythm of the match feel like it was spot-spot-spot-spot. More selling and character work wouldn't have gone astray. Steen was interesting but I spent a lot of time thinking about how he looked like James Corden becomes the character work wasn't quite there.

Ozaki is one of the best actors that I've seen in professional wrestling. I was gonna say that she was the least physically gifted wrestler in the top 100, but we've already seen a few wrestlers drop who aren't that great. I know she couldn't keep being 90s Ozaki forever, but I can't say I loved the choices she made in the 00s and beyond. They kind of leaned into the hardcore side of her work, which was never a big selling point for me, but I get it.

I voted for Ikeda. I actually like his late 90s BattlARTS work more than his Futen stuff, and I don't think he's particularly good at pro-style, but he was a great BattlARTS worker. Windham may seem like a massive drop, but it's interesting to me that he still made the top 100. I'm wondering if he still has matches that resonate with folks or if he simply made it on rep. Presuming he received votes from the Young Turks that is. Kandori... so underrated she's become overrated? She's almost like the Joshi version of Taue. If this is based on people deep diving her JWP/LLPW work, then great, but I suspect not. I've barely seen any Kingston but I can see how he has his fans. Claudio seems far too high, but he probably has a bunch of great stuff I haven't seen. I liked the few Necro matches I've seen, but not sure he's as good as great apuestas guys like Pirata Mogan. At least not in my mind.

That reminds me of how much I love the Regal/Sting matchup. I love how Sting always tries to work the mat in those contests. GAB is the famous one, but all of their TV matches are great.

Regal worked a Euro style so there's no reason you can't compare him to other European wrestlers, though to be fair, he was a heavyweight so it's not fair to compare him to the lighter weight guys. I could see folks thinking he was better than most of the British heavyweights, though we're lacking footage of a lot of the heavy hitters.

I think you'd enjoy WoS and French Catch. If you like lucha then it's an easy transition. The list only scratched the surface of what each style has to offer.

I like Regal, but when push comes to shove, I don't think he's as good as Grey, Breaks, Cortez, Finlay or Marty Jones. I also think Lord James Blears was a better Lord. Regal's good, though, so I'm not gonna complain too much. A lot of his best stuff is against Benoit, which may be problematic for some. Personally, I think FInlay was better in the WWE than Regal, and I'm not a huge fan of Regal's latter matches where his face would turn different shades of purple. I'm all for selling, but I can do without wrestlers feigning a medical event.

Whoever Kraters is, you're a fucking legend.

Someone sell me on Chris Hero being better than the territories guys.

The reasons why women’s wrestling took a dip in ‘16 are fairly obvious. It’s nice to see it making a resurgence this tome round. It can only bee viewed as a positive , imo.
-
The list is just trolling now with those fan favorites falling outside the 100.
-
I don't get the Nagata placing. I guess he has his fans from the 2010s. I also don't get the Abby placing after the territory guys came tumbling down. I guess the young people have an emotional connection with Abdullah the Butcher. I just started watching Briscoes matches the other day. I have watched a grand total of two. They're nice.

Thank god Kudo dropped. I dunno where all these FMW fans emerged from, but they've been by far the most successful pool of voters. I wouldn't put Kudo in a top 250, but she did well in the previous polls so clearly not a viewpoint that others share.

When are we getting another drop so that we can stop talking about pencils.

Has anyone asked Sandman what he thinks of Lulu Pencil?

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't think including ineligible votes would have made much difference to the final list. On the other hand, there were a number of ineligible workers who deserved a vote I don't think the nomination process created a ton of discussion, at least not on this site. There were a large number of nominated wrestlers who received zero comments. Not sure how that makes them better than write-in votes. I don't think you can blame anyone for the lack of discussion, though. How are you supposed to sustain conversation about the GWE for ten years? It's not like critics and film directors spend ten years prepping for the next Sight and Sound poll. I think it would be better off as a five year poll, especially with the way wrestling fans cycle in and out, but if you open the poll up to as many people as possible then you're bound to end up with 100s of last minute ballots that don't take into consideration the years people spent trying to push individual wrestlers' cases. Either you make it invite only, which I assume nobody wants, or you only allow people to vote who you know have been actively involved in the discourse. Ideally, you want the discussion to be centralized the way the GME project is. I get why people left this site for Twitter and Discord, but it's hard to follow the discourse when it's spread over different platforms. You're not going to get a perfect list, and you won't please all of the people, but I think you have to plan for the volume of voters that you want to generate. If you want a big inclusive list, then yeah,, do away with nominations.

Not that uspet about Breaks. He's in good company with Lou Thesz.
-
Akira Maeda is a nationalist with conservative beliefs that wouldn't sit well with you.
-
No! Drop the elbow, Hammer! Amusing to see Chicana finish above Allin, and Maeda sandwiched between two foreigners.
-
Alright, I'm actively rooting for Valentine. Please Hammer don't hurt 'em.
-
Harley Race and The Destroyer too. Hard to guess who will drop next.
-
Hansen and Buddy Rose as well.
-
It's a shame we can't bet on this. Which US territory guys are left? Lawler, Flair, Tully, Arn, Valentine, Steamboat, Hennig, Windham, Backlund, Bruno, Dusty, Piper. Am I missing anyone?

I think Rickson promoted Takada to brown belt. Takada's still in great shape for a guy in his 60s, notwithstanding his ticker issues.
-
Probably not. Eventually, she was forced to adopt them in order for the boys to be recognized as Japanese citizens.
