D-Lo also had a couple of really funny articles in WWF Magazine during his European reign, titled "He's So European". He would start off with something like "As I sit in this Paris cafe eating a baguette…" Pretty sure it only made it 2 or 3 issues though, like Stevie Richards hilarious two month run in WCW Magazine.

https://www.facebook.com/events/689002527865479/ So I'll be in Portland this weekend, and I seem to remember there being one or two people from Portland that post here and at DVDVR. This card is happening this weekend. Naturally, the two names I recognize happen to be two of my least favorite wrestlers. But are any of the other guys any good? It's only $12. I think I've seen one of the guys in a Finlay match before, but remember nothing about him.

I doubt it will kill it, as most of the matches he rates highly still fall into "epic workrate" style. If this comes to be some watershed moment where he starts turning on those types of matches as if a lightbulb went off, we can reference this moment.

What was happening in wrestling when you first started dating?
EricR replied to Sidebottom's topic in Pro Wrestling
Oh man, I remember very well what wrestling was happening when I started dating my first real serious girlfriend. I have never hid my pro wrestling love from any lady I dated, and so this girl and I had gone on several dates in April 2000, and by then she knew I was into pro wrestling but had seen hardly any wrestling herself (she knew the Rock and a couple others, just because that was about the most mainstream wrestling had ever been). So I was out of town for a few days in early May because my buddy and I were seeing Beck's Midnight Vultures tour (still arguably greatest concert ever) and she happened to tune into some wrestling while I was gone. I saw her a few days later and she mentioned she had watched about 10 minutes of pro wrestling and was having a hard time seeing what I liked in it. I had no clue what she had seen since I hadn't watched any of that week's shows yet. She had been flipping through the channels during the Sting/Vampiro graveyard segment. -
Phil and I were talking earlier that it's weird that Sheamus and Cesaro had the best match at Night of Champions, and now two months later one of them is relegated to a short pre-show loss and the other isn't even on the PPV. I haven't been watching as much of the TV lately, so I imagine Cesaro's stock has really fallen and Sheamus is hurt or something?

The booking seems to be moving towards Chavo working a feud with a woman. That's a pretty weak "booker pushing himself as a star" move right there if that's the case.

RVD's singlets are amongst the worst wrestling attire in history. It's like they were designed by Spencer's.

Or it's like penalizing D. Boon or Lee Ranaldo for not ever wanting to do what Kirk Hammett does, even though what they do is just as awesome in a totally different way. There's just as much art in making a great 12 minute match as there is in filling 22 minutes. I think tag matches can benefit from going over 20 minutes. More heat spots, more comebacks, great near falls created by saves. I think most singles matches benefit from being under 20. The longer a singles match goes the more ridiculous it looks that either one guy couldn't put the other away, or that one guy was able to come back from such an extended beating.

I've seen plenty of great matches that needed to be 20+ minutes. And I've seen way more 20 minute matches that would have been way better had a lot of the fat been trimmed off. Most wrestlers don't need and can't properly fill 20 minutes. This isn't about short matches being "in vogue". It would be interesting to get match times on all the top 20 finishers from the 80s sets. I'd bet money that half the matches are under 20 minutes.

Most guys in WWE could not put on an engaging 20 minute match. 20 minutes is looooong and usually unnecessary for a singles match.

If you think Brian Christopher or Disco Inferno are literally the WORST professional wrestlers EVER, then you have lived one privileged fucking life of pro wrestling viewing.

He's not married, his wife is married. -
Nic Cage has given great performances in at least 10 movies. Not a very far-fetched winner. Now Cuba Gooding Jr.?

What is a "Meltzer rating"? Does he rank active wrestlers now?

Best hot tags of the last year belong to Goldust. The right hands, the fast rope running, the cool armdrags he's added, the quick pivot powerslam. Dustin. The answer is always Dustin.

TNA still hasn't figured out how to film bumps. There's no way they can figure out how to make a wheelchair appear to hover. Even an orange vaseline smudge over the wheels seems a bit beyond them. -
I think Scott Armstrong has been the best TV ref of the last several years.

Alicia Fox has gotten so damn good. It's like Finlay is back training the Divas.

and Nikki has HGH face

Jeez that guy in the black trunks is a bump freak.

Old Farts sounds like a popular undercard Chikara gimmick

I really hate when guys get their shoulders counted down while they're in the figure 4.

When I watched a bunch of AWA TV for the 80s project I developed an appreciation for Lee Marshall's cool and uninhibited love for Ricky Rice. I started noticing him getting to more-than-friends territory when commentating Rice matches, and I told my buddy about this while we were watching AWA. Two minutes later Marshall says "Would you look at Ricky Rice's thighs? Mmm Mmm Mmm." I could not have planned it better.

So Eddie Edwards always does a "spit bump" in his matches where he gets the spit knocked out of him after taking a big shot. Well tonight on Impact he took an elbow from Magnus and did his spit take, and spit directly into Davey Richards' face. What's even more amazing is that the only thing Davey sold properly the whole match was getting his eyes spit in.
