    WWE Roadblock

Fun show so far, even without a really good matches. The vibe is good, and I like that it's Saturday night so I can drink while watching the show.

    WWE Roadblock

http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2016/03/wwe-roadblock-live-blog.html Doing a live blog over at Segunda Caida. On paper the card looks better than several PPVs they've run lately. We'll see.
  3. Hogan also partied with Jon Belushi after Wrestlemania II (you know, 4 years after Belushi's death). The Hogan/Metallica stuff is so embarrassing as he claimed he auditioned for them in 1981 (you know, so he would have been auditioning right when Hetfield and Lars met) and would have quit wrestling in a second if he would have got the gig. Every single word of his stories are so pathetic that it comes off like my pathological liar co-worker who claims he downed 45 cocktails in an evening while gambling in Vegas (and of course taking the casino for all they had).
  4. Fuck Hogan getting Tombstoned by Undertaker in 1971, Hogan claimed he worked for Pride....in 1977.

    WWE TV 2/29-3/6

Brodus Clay was one of the featured guys in the WWE Scooby Doo movie, and by the time it was released he was in the middle of his last two televised matches in the company, both of which took place on NXT.

    WWE Fastlane

I'm doing a late live blog over at SC. I really really liked the ADR/Kalisto match, the first match of theirs I've actually liked. No clue why it was relegated to pre-show though. http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2016/02/wwe-fastlane-2016-live-ish-blog.html
  7. It's different because it's a completely different environment. Let's be clear that he didn't punch him in the face or trip him or anything like that. He held him back. If a football player did that to his coach would that be a 90 day suspension? Are you serious? Again, Vince flipping off the fans is not part of the show and not scripted, it was Vince being UNPROFESSIONAL! Vince can be as unprofessional as he wants. Him being unprofessional does not set a precedent for his employees to do whatever they want. That's why it's good to be the fucking king. I had a boss who literally punched his 20-something son in the face (who also worked there) while at work. If I punched his son I would have expected to get fired. But nobody called him out on it because it was his son, his company, his dysfunctional family. Vince can flip off whomever he wants and turn right around and fire somebody for doing the same thing. Call it unfair, but nobody should call it unexpected.
  8. It IS completely insane that some people wanted him fired, but should be common knowledge to anybody in the company that Vince is also completely insane, and if you want to work there so badly then you should act like he's fucking Kim Jong Un whenever you're in the same room as him. And whoever is bringing up Rock going off script and acting like it's unfair because Rock would never get suspended for something like this, yeah, no kidding Rock wouldn't get punished. If they tried to punish Rock for anything he would just laugh at them until he realized they were serious, then laugh more, then leave for a year and charge them WAY more money next time they came crawling back begging him to make an appearance.
  9. What an awesome debut show. I loved how it reintroduced all the major (and best) characters/workers and made them all look important. Phil and I are going to continue to write up the whole season, just like we did with season 1. http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2016/01/lucha-underground-season-2-episode-1.html And man that Cornette rant is fucking terrible. The last chance for people to think wrestling isn't completely predetermined? Are wrestling folks' dicks really this tiny?
  10. As someone who writes about what feels like a lot of lucha, I can say that my reviews probably edge more towards the positive side of things, just because there's so much fucking lucha to watch online that it feels beyond pointless to watch and then waste more time writing about shitty lucha. If I was specifically analyzing something or someone, or disagreed strongly with a praised lucha match I would find it worthwhile to write about it, but I mostly write about lucha that I would recommend to others, or at minimum feels notable for one or several reasons. If I watch something lousy I usually just move on and don't waste more time on it.
  11. Most of Smackdown was pretty worthless, but I thought Alicia Fox looked really great against Becky Lynch.
  12. It's pointless to even say, and he's just awful in general, but my god JBL was terrible during that Stardust match. It's cool he googled David Bowie before the show, but fucking hell, every time Cody moved it was "Looka that Mawgul, the return of the thin white duke!" Like a shittier Texan Matt Striker.
  13. I hadn't thought too much about this until last week, when I started NXT from the beginning on the network. There was a long Paige/Emma match, and every time either one would go on offense, they started working like a heel. I wasn't sure if it was just both of them not being good workers, or both of them being trained to work a certain way while on offense, no matter what their character was.
  14. Drunk Hawk was legit my 12 year old sister's favorite wrestler for two weeks.
  15. I really couldn't see the WWE ever scrapping a giant who was a fine worker, and who rarely gets injured for someone that large. I mean Khali was working matches there for NINE YEARS. I really can't see Show being in WWE for less years than Khali.

    TLC 2015

The wide shot visual of Big E bench pressing the ladder with Kalisto climbing it looked incredible.
  17. I agree. I was really surprised by this match, as I have absolutely loathed "Jay Lethal main event touring champ". But this was the best match shown during their DA tenure. Review of the show below: http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2015/11/ring-of-honor-on-destination-america_28.html
  18. Not to imply that Luger was uniformly beloved during his active career, but I've always thought that what officially did him in and made him a reviled figure was the death of Liz. And I cannot think of anything more paternalistic and misogynistic and just pathetic in wrestling history. You'd think that Elizabeth was Rosemary Kennedy from how little agency that fans have given her over her personal life. And of course we all now know that her relationship with Savage was much more dysfunctional and emotionally/mentally abusive. But I can't count the number of times that I've seen "Lex killed Elizabeth", particularly in the mid-2000s. Wouldn't this be mostly due to WWE Confidential's Liz/Luger episode that flat out implied that Luger was heavily responsible for her death? I believe I remember hearing it was one of the highest rated episodes of the series. I know they aired Luger's 9/11 call, and even had Cole and Okerlund give "news" reports on Luger's side of the story that pretty much implied this was a homicide.
  19. I had fallen out of wrestling in the mid 90s but started getting back into it around '97. And Ahmed Johnson must have debuted shortly after I stopped watching (mid '95) and was practically off TV when I picked it back up in late '97 (though he was still oddly on like every PPV for a few months even though I never remember seeing him on TV). BUT, he was a total mystery to me because he was in all of WWF's print advertising. This guy I rarely saw was in all the ads for all the WWF promo products. New WWF video game? Austin, Undertaker, and Ahmed Johnson in the ads. Nintendo Power write up on WWF stuff? Ahmed Johnson the only guy featured. Write ups in all the Apter mags about how he's going after the title, just Ahmed Johnson popping up everywhere. And I somehow missed the guy's entire existence. But apparently he was huge or the only guy available to do press ad photos.
  20. I was at the 1/15/12 WWE house show in Oakland where Primo & Epico win the tag titles off of Air Boom. I taped the match but got lazy and never uploaded it anywhere. As far as I know WWE showed next to no footage on TV, and I don't remember there being cameras there. So I have - somewhere - a copy of an unaired title change.
  21. I thought the ballpark stadium show looked awesome, and nobody could have possibly thought it was under attended due to seeing some empty seats. It looked like one of the biggest ROH shows I've ever seen. The ringside area was as full as ever, but then you had rows and rows of the grandstand filled. The show looked huge. Way more impressive visuals than a full community center.
  22. Ad hominem attacks: for when you know you're losing an argument but are just too proud to admit it. It's only an ad hominem attack if you pretend that was the only thing I typed. Edge's terrible offense gets laughed at around here so often because he's mentioned as a guy by supporters as having exciting offense. Nobody has ever argued Baba, Big Daddy, Austin had exciting movesets as a reason for their HOF inclusion. And while you were able to use my description to also describe the Stunner, that doesn't mean you're correct. To think the Stunner looked as pathetic as the Edge-o-Matic is hilarious. Even thinking about the move in kayfabe sense you have one guy's throat being forced down onto Austin's shoulder, vs. a guy gently falling backwards. Edge not once made it look like he was driving the guy's head into the mat. We get it, some moves don't hurt and some moves pop a crowd, but I don't think any establish nearfall offense looked as bad as Edge's.
  23. Oh, brother. Let's try and pretend that Edge gently tugging a guy to the mat looked the same as a guy getting his jaw jacked. There's bad posters, and there's Jingus.
  24. Edge also had that one move where he grabbed a guy's head and then sat down. It was literally just a guy taking a back bump with Edge's hands on his ears. Also, he clenched his teeth while slicking down his hair.

    Gino Hernandez

I really really enjoyed Gino vs. Mil Mascaras from the recent AJPW uploads. http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2015/08/all-japan-motherload-gino-hernandez-vs.html
