WWF @ Santa Rosa, CA - Sonoma County Fair - July 30, 1992 Tito Santana defeated Louie Spicolli Shawn Michaels defeated Koko B. Ware Repo Man defeated Owen Hart Tatanka defeated Rick Martel The Ultimate Warrior defeated Kamala This is the only card that came close enough that my mom would actually consider letting me go (WWF obviously played Oakland and SF, but this was literally 10 minutes from my home). I was 11, and had friends that went and had a blast...but boy does this seem pretty damn missable. Now I would have interest in Michaels vs. Koko, but I don't even think the rest of that card would sound appealing to 11 year old me. My Warrior fandom peaked when I was 9, and I wasn't a Michaels, Owen, Koko, Tito or Martel fan when I was a kid. Truthfully I would have likely been most excited about Kamala, since I thought he was an actual Ugandan cannibal (like the kind in the Disneyland Jungle Cruise. I always thought he would be not the leader of one of those kinda tribes, but moreso the toughest guy in the tribe, like the kind Michael Douglas had to fight in Jewel of the Nile). Still, I'm sure I would have had fun.

Chael Sonnen - still the world's greatest carny!

Oh man, that pre fight promo was one of the more embarrassing "promos" I have ever seen. Not only was he desperately trying to keep in his promo voice, but that turn to the camera at the end had me literally spitting out my coffee and laughing. We were howling at how awful that was. That turn to the camera was like the shittiest David Caruso pre-credits CSI Miami take ever. -
A white man with a crew cut probably has a greater chance in tricking more nazis into buying his book than people who would be interested in hearing Storm talk about pro wrestling.

Schiavello can be one of the most unbearable announcers out there, always trying to shoehorn and *scream* his catchphrases where they're not needed. I've heard him make not one, but TWO fucking Monica Lewinsky jokes in the last calendar year. TWO. At his worst, he is as worse as any announcer ever, and tries to get himself over more than most. LOUDLY.

Road agents get health care and benefits. Way better than a legends contract.

This may sound like an odd reason for liking Kanyon but I can say that among my friends, we ALL liked Kanyon because he was really fun to play as in WCW/NWO: Revenge for the N64. He had a bunch of strikes and moves that were unique to his character. So then we would all look forward to seeing him, to see if he would do any of those moves. It may sound stupid, but we were only 15, and I'm sure there were a lot of people out there that were only 15 and I know that game sold TONS of copies. I even remember reading it sold more than No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000, which blows me away since it seemed like everybody had those two games. Of course, the game also made me excited to see Glacier, as he also had really fun combos in the game, and the Cryonic Kick was one of the most fun moves to hit in the game (along with Goldberg's Spear).

4 pages late, but there was NO player on the MLB HOF ballot this year that is worse than Tony Womack, let alone many horrible ballplayers, which would make Womack "far from the *worst* player on the ballot." Terry Mulholland? Nowhere close to as lame as Womack. Name THREE players from the last TWENTY YEARS of the Ballot that are worse than Womack. It's not possible. I'll even spot you Dodger superstar Lenny Harris. Womack is clearly one of the worst, if not the worse guy to show up on a HOF ballot. Shoot, explain to me how Tony Womack would deserve someone's vote over Neifi Perez? However, Bobby Womack - who you mentioned - is fucking awesome.

Daichi Hashimoto would be another good rookie choice, if you're looking for one. And I cannot believe you didn't have Henry as #1 on interviews. The man didn't misspeak all year. Punk had some great promos during the summer, and then a month later they became soooo embarrassing and I couldn't listen to them. All pipebombs and ice cream bars. Henry said something sig worthy every single week, whether on the mic or during the match itself.

Rumored returns, arrivals, matches, etc..

Hack Myers was in at least two other WCW Worldwide matches in '97 that were even better, working Dean Malenko on the 1/12/97 show, and then teaming with Bunkhouse Buck vs. Public Enemy on the 6/15/97. Malenko match was really good, and the quality of the tag doesn't really matter because every man alive would want to see a team of Hack Myers and Bunkhouse Buck. -
Alright!! After two weeks of waiting the 3rd part of the 30 minute long Finlay vs. Timothy Thatcher MAT EPIC is finally posted. http://www.youtube.com/user/maninblack235 There are two alternate angles for the first 13 minutes or so (me on the stage, my buddy from the corner), and then the last 2 minutes are me. So watch and enjoy, comment here. I LOVED this match, so everybody watch it and comment about it here.

My friends and I didn't always get together to buy in on PPVs, but in the late 90s there was more of our crew than normal watching wrestling, so more people were willing to go in on PPVs. We ended up getting Royal Rumble '99, WM XV and King of the Ring '99. By the end of that shitty trifecta, most of thos casual fans could not give a shit about wrestling any longer. Those shows were just fucking brutal to watch live. Worst Rumble match ever, arguably worst mania, and such a bad KOTR tourney. I remember thinking of what a huge rip off those shows were even though the price was split like 8 or 10 ways. In fact, the Rumble was ordered by one of my friends' moms, because it was his birthday. It still felt like a total rip off, because I had to drive 25 minutes to get to his house.

That's why I'm saying there's no chance he'll watch a lot of current lucha (guys like Black Terry and Negro Navarro). If he'll watch a random DG iPPV, but won't want a match that finished #4 of the year on his own poll, when a link was sent to his email, there is no chance he's seen current Black Terry. Not sure he could even pick him out of a lucha line-up.

It was very easy to find on youtube, not sure if it still is. So - in thoery - Dave could have watched it while traveling, wherever he had internet access, as opposed to it only being on his Tivo. I also actually e-mailed him a link to the match on youtube, as it was my favorite match that year and he would be doing himself a disservice by not seeing it. I never got a response to that e-mail.

As far as I can tell he didn't even watch the Blue Panther vs. Villano V match that ended up ranked 4th in his end of year awards. His quote was "I haven’t seen the entire Panther vs. Villano match, but saw highlights to at least see the heat was off the charts and storyline was great." I'm pretty sure that was the most recent lucha match to place in the WON top 10 (not sure what match ranked prior, possible a Mistico match. Possibly as far back as Atlantis/Villano III winning.), and I'd bet money he didn't actually go back and watch the full match at any point. So if a lucha match finishes #4 in his own poll and he doesn't really watch it, I doubt he goes out of his way to watch much else.

I was there live for most of the Modest/Daniels stuff, and there were a lot of neat things that carried over into their future matches, building upon each other. Stuff that people loved about ROH stuff 5 years later. Modest was my favorite wrestler in the world during this point, just because he was such a great live match worker and I got to see him live every 6 weeks. Daniels at the time was a good heel, very quick-witted. Modest could play baby or heel, and his heel stuff was great. I liked their matches against each other, but LOVED the match with them teaming against Westside Playaz 2000 (Robert Thompson and Boyce LeGrande). That might be a fun one to revisit. Remember it having great action, cool movez, crowd was molten, and had a great table spot that came out of nowhere. Modest got kinda tired of wrestling after being jerked around by WCW, then went to NOAH, got pressured by Misawa to open his own school, then that drained him physically and emotionally (running a school while going on every NOAH tour). Daniels just didn't change and things passed him by, the same way I enjoyed Jerry Lynn matches in 1999. What seemed neat then, doesn't seem as neat 12 years later, especially since their styles were not something timeless (like brawling).

I believe Hogan's merchandising deal when he first went to WCW was also so that WCW was almost losing money off Hogan merchandise. Hogan was pulling something like 50% on merchandise, and when you consider what the venues took as their cut, and what WCW had to pay their manufacturers...that's insane.

I think Segunda Caida deserves a ballot. But if Kris just got one then I guess that means we're still 7 years away from that happening.

I will never understand that statement, but I guess you need to see some 2009 Freelance.

You don't want to be Tim Sylvia, Vic.

WWE and/or Jim Ross tried to get the CLB nickname to stick on Christian for seemingly a year, and there were rarely even signs or anything from fans acknowleding.

They all have worth, but the Drew/Masters Smackdown matches are 90-120 seconds long. They're fun because they seem oddly complete for matches that are sub 2 minutes, a testament to how good both are. The Superstars matches a always longer and always better. All are worth seeking out.

Chris Masters matches that are really really good: ~vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Primo (Superstars, 1/28/10) ~vs. Chavo Guerrero (Superstars, 5/6/10) ~vs. Dolph Ziggler (Superstars, 5/13/10) ~vs. Jack Swagger (Superstars, 8/19/10) ~vs. Drew McIntyre (Superstars, 8/26/10) ~vs. Kane (Smackdown, 9/24/10) ~vs. Vance Archer (Superstars, 10/7/10) ~vs Alberto Del Rio (Smackdown, 10/15/10) ~vs. Tyler Reks (Superstars, 10/28/10) ~vs. Tyler Reks (Superstars, 12/30/10) ~vs. Curt Hawkins (Superstars, 1/20/11) ~vs. Tyler Reks (Superstars, 3/10/11) Those are 12 Masters matches that I think are really, really good. The best one is the McIntyre match from 8/26 (might as well watch that whole episode of Superstars as it also has Goldust vs. Regal which is insanely good as well). A couple of those matches are under 5 minutes, but the Del Rio one especially shows how much of a little story Masters can tell with only 3 minutes. Kane match is good as it shows how great he can work with someone larger than him, and the Vance Archer match is maybe the miracle match of 2010. The former Lance Hoyt has not touched anything that good ever. The 3 way is great as there aren't many good 3 ways and this is a real tight 6 minutes. I know that seems like a lot of matches, but they're all really easily found online and the longest ones (McIntyre, Ziggler, and one of the Reks matches) are only 10 minutes. This should be more than enough to show you how great Masters got before his release.

Actually, every time I see Meltz plug one of the ICP iPPVs in the daily update (it seems like those things happen weekly) I always see a match or three that looks like it's worth plunking down $4.99 to watch (at least I think that's how cheap they are). but if the only way to see those matches is to be there live surrounded by juggalos...that I have no interest in.

One of the things that impressed me most about Kerry was how amazingly fast and athletic he was after he came back from his foot surgery/amputation. Obviously since we all know he had no right foot it's easy to spot little odd things (like how massive his right boot is around the ankle), but I bet if you showed somebody who somehow didn't know he had only one foot matches from '84 and matches from '88, they wouldn't be able to tell any differences in his performance. Anybody who thinks Kerry isn't an awesome worker, either has not seen much '80s Kerry, or just believes everything Meltzer says.
