"El Monarca" Javier Cruz
-
Five people voted for Javier Cruz in 2006. I voted him at #21 in 2006. This year, I was the only voter and I voted him at #83. I think it's the lack of (new) footage and the fact that people have discovered a lot of other workers. I'm sure he would have ended up in several people's top 150.
-
He was considered one 10 years ago. I guess nowadays not so much anymore.

Fuchi finished #67 for me. Not sure if that's the high vote or not. That's not the high vote.
-
I think I will be the high vote on Masa Fuchi (unless Parties or someone else will have him higher). I will possibly also be the high vote on Sangre Chicana (just like in 2006). However, he's been getting more love in recent years. So maybe I won't be the high vote after all. We'll found out soon. I look forward to the final results.

I was the only one who voted for her in 2006 (I had her at #87 at the time and this time I will probably rank her a little bit higher). Hopefully I won't be the only one this time around.

Thats a monumental drop, any reason why? It's not necessarily because of Eddie. It's mostly because of discovering the greatness of other wrestlers. I have been watching a lot of different wrestling in the past 10 years (just like most people here, I'm sure) and I have discovered new workers I consider really great. In 2006, Eddie's 1994-1997 work was how I felt the GOAT should work. In 2016, I'm not really into that New Japan juniors/AAA/WCW cruiserweight stuff as much as I was 10 years ago (I still enjoy it from time to time though). This is not the only reason for Eddie dropping this much on my list though, because several others I ranked highly in 2006 are still ranked highly (there are in general a lot of changes on this year's list compared to my 2006 list though). So I guess I simply ranked him way too high last time. I don't regret my ballot from 2006 though. It was simply how I felt at the time. My list in 2006 was very different from how my list would have been in 1996 (not that I was making lists like this back then). My list in 2026 will probably be very different from this year's list (if I will make one in 2026). I guess what I'm looking for in wrestling matches has changed over the years and it will probably continue to change.

I have Eddie higher than Rey. Eddie was my #1 in 2006. This time around he will probably be at least 50 spots lower.

I haven't posted on this forum in about two and a half years, but I have been lurking and reading posts. I plan on voting soon (hopefully on Friday or Saturday). I am still working on my list. I know I haven't actively participated in the discussions (I will try to post a bit more these days), but I think this is a great project... so I definitely want to send in a ballot. By the way, I also participated in the 2006 SmarksChoice Greatest Wrestler Ever poll, so for me it's also interesting to see how different things will be this time around.

Thanks. I agree with most of your comments about the AAA guys. I haven't seen too much of Marabunta's work either, but from what I remember he was a fun rudo worker who would bump a lot. Babe Face is indeed kind of a poor man's El Signo. I'm curious what your opinion on Talisman will be when the lucha set comes out.

In my opinion, there are only about 6 workers strong candidates for GFOAT... Chigusa Nagayo Yumi Ikeshita Jaguar Yokota Akira Hokuto Manami Toyota Aja Kong Honorable mentions are... Mayumi Ozaki Devil Masami Bull Nakano Kyoko Inoue I see Cuty Suzuki being mentioned. While not a GFOAT candidate, her work is quite underrated and she's pretty much a "tier 4" worker (taking a page from the "tier 2, tier 3, tier 4" thread).

Great thread. I am wondering what ohtani’s jacket’s opinion on the following workers are (and if he would possibly consider including them on his list)… Mid-1990s AAA workers… Eddy Guerrero; Volador; Marabunta; Heavy Metal Mid-1990s AAA isn’t that popular anymore nowadays, but I think some of those workers listed could possibly be considered solid hands. Misc old school workers… Talisman; Babe Face Talisman is a strong hand, in my opinion.

Am I the only one who thinks the 10/30/94 Sasuke vs. Onita match from Michinoku Pro is worth watching? If yes, I think it's probably the most underrated match ever. The wrestling itself isn't anything special (especially for the high 1994 standards), but... come on... it's Sasuke and Onita~! Both men try to avoid hitting the barbed wire. The suspense is great. The Michinoku Pro crowd is going nuts whenever they tease a big bump is about to happen. The finish is dramatic with Onita trying to protect both his opponent Sasuke and referee Ted Tanabe. Maybe I'm just a huge mark for Sasuke and Onita. After the match, Jinsei Shinzaki shows up to carry Sasuke to the back. Is it just me who likes this match? Perhaps it's just a nostalgic thing? Any opinions on this match?

In my opinion, this is the least in their trilogy of matches. It's probably worth ***3/4.

[1993-12-04-WWF-Superstars] Reo's Roundup: Shawn Michaels
stunning_grover replied to Loss's topic in December 1993
The Reo Rodgers gimmick is surreal. I can't believe more people have commented on it. Bruce Prichard is known as Reo Rodgers and is basically a ridiculous Dusty Rhodes parody. This gimmick was dropped after only two or three segments (which was probably a good idea). Shawn Michaels is in a suit and acts all serious. He claims to be the Intercontinental Champion. Razor comes out and he also claims to be the Inctercontinental Champion. This was a great feud that eventually led to their ladder match at WrestleMania X. -
I personally think it's fun to see Bossman in his WWF gear in an All Japan ring. However, he is clearly outclassed by Kawada & Taue. Also, Williams is clearly superior (even though this is not necessarily a top performance by Williams). I think Bossman certainly adapted well and definitely appeared to try hard, but he probably wouldn't have been interesting after an extended stay. As much as I dislike Johnny Ace, I think Bossman wouldn't have been better in the Johnny Ace role in All Japan.

Great match! Everyone was terrific, but I think Kobashi was the man of the match. The crowd going nuts for Hansen shaking hands with both Misawa and Kobashi after the match was awesome too.

I think that Bossman being good was more of a novelty factor thing. I think he wasn't as good as DiBiase in All Japan was that year (and 1993 DiBiase obviously wasn't as good as 1987 DiBiase).

[1990-03-03-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and Nate

I loved this segment. More heels should be as vicious as Lawler was at that time. When watching this, one really feels sorry for Lawler's servant.- 10 replies
