  2. Headbangers again are put in a showcase position. This created more tension between Owen/Bulldog and they finally come to blows.
  3. Anticlimatic ending that was more about setting up future stuff. Undertaker winning the belt and his journey felt like an afterthought.
  4. Another good segment to get it through the viewers mind how big Bret is. Again it seems weird that this happens before the main event of Mania but it was affective int he long run.
  5. I used to like this match a lot and would have compared it to the Nasty Boy brawls of 1994 before this watch but it lacked a lot of urgency and mainly just featured guys hitting each other with stuff that you don't see used everyday in a WWF ring. Blah.

    GFOAT

I await Flik and other joshi and other experts to respond but I will say of the yearbook sets I have seen so far, the top end stuff is really great but there is still a decent amount of other matches that don't work very well. I can't think of any match from my top tier male wrestlers in a high profile situation in their peak as bad as that Toyota vs. Kong match from 1991. Aja would be my pick from what I have seen. Yearbook wise, 1997 has been the most consistent joshi stuff with Kudo as the standout but I am only in April.
  7. Thought about this and I think this would be my tier 1: Flair, Jumbo, Misawa, Kobashi, Hansen, Lawler, Casas. These are the only guys I would consider for #1 overall personally so that is my cutoff.
  8. I agree with this as I have came down on my opinions a lot in the past 2-3 years. Right after I became an IWC individual and watched the heralded All Japan stuff, it is likely that I would have boasted something along the lines that Misawa and Jumbo are the two GOAT's and everyone else is just fighting for third place. Now, after all the stuff I have watched since 2011 starting with competing in Ditch's 2004 puroresu poll, I lean towards prefacing stuff by saying, "Of what I have seen" or "perhaps Bock and Dandy could be as good as Jumbo/Misawa."

  13. Didn't even think about that but Parv stepping right into that unintentionally was brilliant.
  14. Love Parvs modern reviews because even though he has no modern product knowledge he generally more or less comes out with the same conclusion as I do.

    Matches of the Month

Was looking forward to your placement of Misawa vs. Kawada. Can't wait to get to that one as I havent seen it since I did my first watch through 90's AJPW around 2003.
  16. Please do the lucha set Matt just so I can print out your reviews and bind them as a book like I am considering doing your AWA writeups if the 80's section gets recovered.

  18. Thanks NWA Fan, high praise from a loyal listener. I agree with you that as much as they brought up the the geographic difference, the Starrcade 87 card itself and the overall booking of that event is the main problem. I again would have liked to have seen what the reaction would have been if something like GAB 89 was the first show they decided to run in Chicago. Didn't make a note that they didn't really mention the feuds but that is true and a little surprising since to me Crockett was a very feud heavy fed with people married together like Dusty vs. Flair, Tully vs. Magnum, Jones vs. Valiant, etc. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?showtopic=20773 - there is the link to the thread Parv was referencing.
  19. I think this unequivocally proves that Dylan is the podcast curse
  20. I knew a midget match would be showing up somewhere on Will's dream card.

    Jaaawn Cena

I also really enjoy the Batista Summerslam 2008 match as it had a Ultimate Challenge dream match feel to it. Cena is a bit odd for me because I can argue that I have seen perhaps his two worst performances as a big match wrestler live (vs. Miz WM 27, vs. Rock WM 29).
  22. Thanks Shoe for mentioning Wrestling II/ Magnum TA. When we said Borne I had a huge brain fart and knew that wasn't right but couldn't think off hand who it was. I do think this doc overall is good at generating some discussion on the downfall of the promotion and the primitive days in the 70's leading into Flair becoming the NWA champ.
  23. Loss, Bill Simmons wrote the Book of Basketball of which the bulk of it consisted of a GOAT list of pro players. That is what JDW posted and Simmons separated the players into tiers.
  24. Definitely think if we do a GOAT list again, Bills tier system is not a bad starting point. He has a few too many names in his pantheon (or tier 1) level but otherwise he did a good job of distinguishing the candidates in a sport where #1 was never in question.
  25. Adonis is probably too inconsistent to be anything above Tier 4 for me James.
