[1990-10-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Eddie Gilbert & Dick Slater
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
Gilbert cuts another short and sweet promo and Slater said he has never been a former anything. -
[1990-10-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Jeff Jarrett and Eddie Gilbert
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
Fuck what an amazing segment that took me by surprise. I was expecting another good typical heated promo with maybe some shoving but they each started dropping bombs at each other and Jarrett hits a gusher. I agree that the key to this really working is that Gilbert is so justified in what he is saying and also that the shoot comments came out organically instead of trying to be smart to the crowd. Amazing episode of USWA.- 11 replies

[1990-10-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Eddie Marlin and Jerry Lawler
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
I loved the serious tone this took with everyone in suits and then hyping all the talent. Lawler's promo was good but if you were a frequent watcher of USWA you were probably tired of the true world champion talking point. Lawler shows clips of him losing to the Snowman and then has some remarks. Eddie Marlin then cuts the PROMO of the FUCKING YEAR against the snowman saying he is nothing to him by trying to sell the USWA belt to a drug dealer and talking about how he refused to defend his title. I was mesmerize by all of this. -

Pretty sure this was the same video as before. -
[1990-10-06-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Rick Martel and Jake Roberts

Also a vivid childhood memory as I can always recall Vince screaming "Right in the EYE" Great segment to watch again. -
Fantastic matchup that sustained a great pace for the entire time. My favorite thing about this match is whereas before it felt like Misawa and his friends vs. Jumbo and his henchman, this match had four distinct personalities going at it. MOTYC

[1990-09-29-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Black Scorpion promo
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1990
Riki Choshu or Bret Hart is the Black Scorpion. -
[1990-09-29-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Ricky Morton vs Bobby Eaton
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1990
Good match that had a lot of time to develop. I will say that Eaton did not work at the pace and precision you are used to and that detracted some. The gauntlet gimmick continues to be real enjoyable. -
[1990-09-29-USWA-Memphis TV] Bill Dundee vs Dirty White Boy

Action was not as good as I hoped for and we get a decent beatdown followed by the lame move of dressing Brickhouse up as a woman. That is another Memphis standby that I never cared for. -
[1990-09-29-USWA-Memphis TV] Music Video: Steve Keirn

Good quick video of a redebut of Kiern to a good song choice of "If Looks Could Kill" -
[1990-09-29-WWF-Superstars] Update: Big Bossman/Bobby Heenan feud recap
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1990
Recap of the feud. This feud really didn't make Boss Man look great looking like a huge mama's boy. -
Kawada has his tights and all is right in the world. Fuck this aggression was really missing from some later All Japan 90's stuff. Everyone here looked so raw but polished at the same time. Kobashi takes a hell of a beating and sells it for what its worth. It still alarms me to see Kawada/Misawa tag together. Finish knocks this down slightly but this was still pretty great overall.

[1990-09-28-NWA-Power Hour] Bobby Eaton vs Tracy Smothers
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1990
I get sad everytime I see the Cobb County Civic Center sign. This had the plus of being able to see out the windows at points and see the dusk of the night which is something I always mark for. Good match. Smothers was sloppy at points but Eaton reeled him in well and they did do some clever spots. Smothers kicks also looked good and the ring breaking didn't slow them down. -
[1990-09-28-NWA-Power Hour] Louisville Slugger: Theodore R. Long
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1990
I like this feud a lot. It did give Flair something to do instead of constantly having people pondering why he is not in the main event singles picture. Pretty good promo by Teddy. -
Good match. I do love the guantlet concept even though the booking was kind of wonky. Missy was annoying on commentary but I guess to an extent thats the point. Arn worked a really good match feeding into the power of Scott and Scott had better punches in this match than normal.

[1990-09-23-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan

Awesome finish to the episode. This was a small thing but everything made sense and it made the overall Superstars episode memorable. -
[1990-09-23-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Big Boss Man vs Paul Perez

Fun stuff with Hennan getting handcuffed to the guardrail. I also liked how it played into the P&G match with Hercules being asked to break the cuffs. -
[1990-09-22-Maritimes] Rip Rogers vs Big Stephen Pettipas
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in September 1990
Gotta be honest, I didn't dig this a lot at all. Rogers looked fine but Pettipas didn't bring nothing to the match for me. I have preferred every WCW tv match to this.- 9 replies
