  1. Were you watching the commercial copy or the unedited raw footage? We watched the commercial copy. I went back and watched the unedited raw footage and it improved the match a lot in my eyes. I still really love that Blanchard/Luger vs. Nikita/Rhodes match for Nikitas sell job but if I had watched the unedited raw footage of the Flair/Windham match it would have been my MOTN.
  2. Yep. If you listen to Regal's interviews, he also don't think of himslef as a guy who should be pushed as a main event act. This is nice that Regal is humble and recognizes the demons he was dealing with but Starrcade was headlined with fucking Brutus Beefcake. I think Regal would have been favorable to him.
  3. I would throw out 1987 as an underrated choice. Just on the surface he has 2 classics with Windham, the title switches with Garvin, and the Jimmy Garvin cage match from 1987 that I dug a whole lot. He also brought a good deal to the 2 wargames matches.
  4. Hansen has been barreling up my all timer list. For a while I put him more in the wildman, great brawler role. After seeing some stuff recently that really displays his depth as a performer, he is a legit GOAT contender for me. This stuff you just posted is a prime example. I had never given thought to an extended Hansen vs. Colon feud. Now I have 5 matches to look forward to.
  5. Regal really deserved better in 1994. He was amazing when given opportunities as evidenced by the Zbysko feud, Arn match, and Flair Queensbury. I have no idea why he got shafted so much as the year progressed and was devalued. He did his best to overcome that by still having good matches with Badd but of honestly all the people hurt by Hogan and his buddies coming into WCW, I think Regal was at the top of the list as he greatly got lost in the shuffle.
  6. I certainly don't think Bigelow is great but certainly capable and that still doesn't excuse Barry from encouraging a positive reaction to himself as a heel. I haven't watched the match in some time and that may be a valid point. Of course if encouraging a positive reaction to himself as a heel is a serious criticism it's time to start shitting on Flair hard. I didn't want to respond to this in the Windham thread and turn every thread under the microscope into a Flair analysis. What I wanted was if Dylan could expand upon this statement. Do you consider Flair calling people fat boys and talking about having sex as part of this encouraging or is there something else I am missing. I don't want to overblow Windham doing that in a match because I fully understand it is a nitpick on my part as something that really harked on me and took me out of that particular match. I could have ignored the same thing happening many times before. No doubt NWA had some male fans that would have cheered Flair on when he said stuff like that but I don't criticize that against Flair because he is still being a "dick". Same reason even though Jerry Lawler making fun of the USWA crowd had everyone laughing and people begging to be picked on I give a pass to that because Jerry was acting like a heel making fun of the fans.
  7. Kind of a shame how much Windham was wasted in 1990 after he came back. I just went through the results and besides a match on main event with Luger and a five minute match with Armstrong, he was essentially in squash matches on tv until October and was bogged down vs. Superheroes on PPVs.
  8. Guess I am int he minority on the Bam Bam match. I certainly wish his Chi Town match with Luger had more time because it was just starting to get real good when it ended and Barry's selling of the hand was done really well. May actually be my favorite Windham performance besides the Flair matches and Clash 1 tag.
  9. Great capper to an awesome tournament. The booking was impeccable and Lawler came out looking like a hero. If this was a PPV, it would have been my PPV of the year for 1990 so far.
  10. I certainly don't think Bigelow is great but certainly capable and that still doesn't excuse Barry from encouraging a positive reaction to himself as a heel.
  11. I don't think until this match I have ever called a squash match a great match. That has changed. Funk gives Lawler a beatdown for the ages with brutal punches and shots. Funk yells at him throughout all of this and Lawler's bumps are predictably great. This ends with Funk saying fuck it and laying out the ref and then Lawler. Gilbert comes in to count him out but Lawler kicks out showing a glimpse of resilience. Still, Jerry has the deck stacked against him heading into the final vs. Idol. Funk looked like a monster here.
  12. Clips looked good. Weird finish with Lowe throwing in the towel. Idol gives a good interview afterwards as he advances to the final.
  13. Short match but filled with a lot of neat touches like work on the leg, bumps to concrete, and Terry crazily wailing the referee. Finish was clever to boot.
  14. Hmmm, I actually thought this was my least favorite match so far. Still good but I felt myself losing attention more during this match. The teased screwjob ending was neat.
  15. Perfect feud starter match with good chain wrestling and snippets of brawling. 10 minutes flew by and the coin flip was incredibly stupid. To play fantasy booker, it might have been smart if immediately after the bell, Gilbert would have thrown a fireball at Jarrett and the officials determine that he can't continue.
  16. What would you say was the best stuff from Barry in 1988? I thought he was very hit or miss for big matches that year. Bunkhouse stampede vs. Zbysko was a good match but not much more on a shitty card, Clash 1 was a classic match and Barry's best performance of 88 to me. I didn't like his match at clash 2 with Armstrong very much at all. GAB 88 vs. Dusty had the claw hold from hell as it was applied for 5 minutes and grounded the match to a halt. Clash 3 vs. Sting was a good match with an erratic Sting but missing a little something. I really like the Clash 4 tag although I would probably call Barry the 3rd best worker in the match. The match vs. Bigelow was not near as good as it could have been and featured Barry mugging for the crowd as a heel and essentially encouraging cheers by giving them the 4 horseman gesture. I thought that was a really sour performance. I do remember him being really good in the match he turned heel. I am higher on the Flair matches and Barry overall than Parv, but he has lost a lot of rep going through some of these shows. I just can't point to too many Barry performances I would call great with lesser opponents. I remember really liking his 1991-92 stuff so hopefully that will hold up. I have no problem calling Barry a very good wrestler overall at this point but would be hesitant to call him great and I don't see any way he would be in my top 20 of US workers all time.
  17. Fine match and good glimpse at Taker right before his big run in WWF. Bruno was really good at being annoying on the outside.
  18. Pretty brillant Funk schtick performance and perfect for a first round setting. Funk flying over the guardrail over a spit was tremendous as well as him grinding his head on the mat after Brickhouse hit the headbutt. Just a fun match to watch.
  19. Lame segment and how many press conferences are we going to get on this disc.
  20. I was fine with this as a squash until the end with the newsletter which was stupid as hell.
  21. This was odd to see this as a lot more of 50/50 encounter until Jumbo's big run at the end. This was really good action but this was kind of odd from a position standpoint.
  22. Pretty good collection of gaijin on this tour. Weird segment overall.
  23. Arn has a UGA sweat shirt on so I already love this. Arn gives a great promo and Flair makes his one line count. Digging this feud.
  24. Better brawl than the Sting vs. Sid one. I wish the Nasties would had stuck around WCW from 1990-1994 straight through.
  25. Tag division does look stacked. I was surprised to see the RNR ahead of the MX at this point.
