That's how you direct a comment to someone on Twitter. You put that before their username and they will see it. Oh. Damn. Thanks. Agreed on social media mostly being a plague.

As I've been listening to Prichard's podcast quite a bit lately, I'm sooo hearing his Vince impersonation when I read that. Which makes it even more funny of course.

And ICOPRO. And The World. Now that would be a WWE Universe.

1986 : some smart-ass provoques a bunch of wrestlers in strip-joint somewhere by calling their shit "fake"; Rick Rude proceeds to beat the shit out of the guy and they have to fly off before the police shows up. 2017 : some guy writes that a flippy-floppy spot Gif is stupid on Twitter; Young Buck n°2 says he doesn't know shit because he got the biggest pop of the match and then proceeds to block the guy on Twitter. Ya know, as far as americana goes, pro-wrestling really wouldn't warrant a movie these days… nor even a story told…

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
El-P replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Probable because the Steiner's stint in WWF was short and pretty uneventful. When there's nothing to comment on, it's hard to make it interesting. I enjoyed the second part too, and there was some hilarious Vince stuff on the episode still. I thought Jake's episode was good though, nothing earth-shattering but Jake has been covered to death already. The Goldust episode has so much potential... -
[1988-07-10-NWA-Great American Bash '88] Ric Flair vs Lex Luger
El-P replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in July 1988
Great match, complete shit finish. And yes, historically, it's like it foreshadowed Luger's entire career, up to the Yoko shit finish. Dusty's booking of the Bash was pretty rotten. Crazy year for Flair though, after making Sting a star at Clash 1, he makes Luger a star there. Although the difference of work between the two is striking, as Luger was way ahead of Sting at this point, and looked like the sure thing for years to come. Call me crazy, I probably have Luger as a top 3 Flair opponent, as more great matches are to come. Odd visual with the yellow & white tights/kneepads combo on both guys, only inverted. -
Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson contemplates running for president in 2024... Yeah, this has to be April 1st.

[1988-07-10-NWA-Great American Bash '88] Barry Windham vs Dusty Rhodes
El-P replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in July 1988
Damn, Windham was awesome in 88. He made Dusty's tired old ass look better than seemingly anyone has, ever. The match is excellent until the damn claw hold, in which Dusty seems far too happy to stay in forever. His hope spots look goofier than shit too. Then a ref bump and a complete shit finish. Dusty's booking was awful at this point, no wonder what happened in the newt few months. But Windham was godlike in 87/88 and this is another testament to that fact. -
No problem, it's interesting they have actual press release that reads like *this*. Says a lot about the promotion and why people on their TV speak like they do. The whole "Facebook-only" concept is idiotic. Social network bullshit. It could have been a cool concept as a one-off holiday show for instance.

The WWE corporate managerial talk is making me want to vomit already. Who wants to read that kind of shit ? The pseudo-interactive stuff is beyond played out. The idea of a mixed tournament was kinda intriguing, the way it's presented is completely yawn inducing. That company... can't wait for that Kane main-event at Rumble...

At the end of the day, I think that summarizes it perfectly.

I was thinking about more similar cases, like Austin physically abusing Debra for instance. I wonder what his reporting looked like at the time. I agree that the whole "in Japan they don't care about the other stuff, at all" comes off rather dismissing of "the other stuff", which involves implied rape, to focus on the fact Elgin talked badly about Jeff Cobb, the usual wrestling bubble crap. Odd sense of what really matters in this whole story.
-
Agreed, at least with the first part of the sentence (about downplaying stuff on purpose for guys he likes, I can't think of something specific). But on this particular instance, there's really not much to get outraged about. For now at least.

Yep. Strikes me as Meltz being his awkward self as opposed to anything outrageous and repulsive as it was portrayed by a single line out of context (which doesn't surprise me one bit considering the name of the Twitter account in question).

I'm there. Loved Aztec Jarrett theme too.

In this post/meta/ironic era we're stuck into, if King Curtis would shout "Sullivaaaaaan my soooooon !" tomorrow on TV, people would actually praise it. Damn. I just realized that Bray Wyatt was basically a modern Dungeon of Doom all by himself. Except not even funny because there's no Hogan to notice that they aren't any Hulkamaniacs here and that it's not hot. There's only Randy Orton bland ass doing Diamond Cutters on video maggots...

What did you expect ? Broken Matt was fun because it was unique. It's not anymore, it's been done already and now it's in the hands of WWE writers and production people. Not to mention Woken kinda sounds stupid and trademarky. And then of course they have him feud with the most obvious and blatant shitty guy they can think of, who else but Bray Wyatt of course. It's like those old Taker feuds against shitty monsters he had to work against, because. The Wyatt stuff has consistently brought up the worse feuds and matches of 2017. I expect another chapter in the Wyatt "worst segment/match of the year" with this, complete with WWE redoing poorly what had been done elsewhere. Wait. They already have done that after the original Broken videos with the godawful Orton feud. So it's a redux of a poor copy, with the original guy not being so original anymore. Kane. 2018. What else ? My interest in the Rumble has taken a nosedive already. Give AJ a killer match like last year at least...

Great match followed by a great angle. Windham was one of the best worker in the world at this point. Tully's work is so "realistic", in that it never looks like he's going through a bunch of spots but really is trying to fight with a gameplan, likewise Nick Bockwinkle. I love that kind of work more than anything else, and this is Tully at his best, making this his best single match next to the Magnum classic indeed. Pro-wrestling as its classic best.

Wow. Terrible. I honestly hope the shit will hit the fan sooner than later.

We hardly knew ye. Is there a PPV before Royal Rumble ? What's up next ? I've been totally out of the loop lately. (8888 posts ? damn...)

Yeah, Lawler does sound like an old sexist pig. It was embarrassing enough having him going crazy for "puppies" back in 99.

Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard
El-P replied to Lust Hogan's topic in Publications and Podcasts
The Katie Vick stuff from Survivor Series 2002 episode is fascinating. Anyone listened to the Jake Roberts episode yet ? Sounds like one of the most interesting on paper. Steiners are up and Edge is next, which doesn't appeal to me nearly as much.
