Let's take a moment to reflect... Tonight is Todd Martin's last RAW review

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Looks like Bryan is going to be working Kane at Summerslam. Meltz originally reported he'd be working Jericho but I guess they switched up and it will be Jericho/Ziggler -
I think the real turning point for Punk was the RAW after the walk out angle where he started joking around with Hunter after playing the anti-authority card with him the previous two months. Then the Del Rio program started and he just started acting like the typical aw shucks WWE Babyface. I'll say this though. I think Punk is more media and image conscious than people think. I think he likes going on talk shows and the like. Not a knock just that he may not hate being the corpororate ambassador all that much

Anyone get the feeling Rock is working Summerslam? A month ago I would have said no way but the way they've been booking Cena lately and with him appearing next week I think there's a chance.
-
Post at DVDVR made me think. Babyfaces have been dominant in WWE this year so far. All the champions are faces now and the two champions have had eight and four month reigns respectively. Show got a big heel push for a few weeks but lost his first big PPV match. Ryback and Brodus are both getting monster Babyface pushes at the same time. I know it's an in house thing but it's been pretty insane this year.

I think Punk v Cena will headline SS next month. Punk will finally get to main event. I also expect him to lose. Despite working on top during this time Cena has been out of the title picture for close to a year now. That's about to change.

They left on their own. Needed a break from the travel/schedule -

The AYS had me rolling. The smart mark stuff might anger many but it destroyed me especially the Dave Taylor shirt. "Fyre with a Y" And a "Disorderlies" reference! Loss: the show is pretty hit or miss but can be hilarious when everything clicks. Brian and Josh are pretty witty guys -
Would Shawn Michaels Make Your Personal Top 100?
Strummer replied to Dylan Waco's topic in The Microscope
Shawn busting out a sitdown powerbomb and a freaking Northern lights suplex in the Iron Man was so strange because I don't think he ever did those moves before or after the match. I guess he wanted to work some new spots in to avoid repetition but it's surreal looking back -
I don't know if it was her idea or the companys's but Madusa changing her look was a great decision around this time. Straightening her hair, making it a more whitish blonde, great tan, a modest boob job (compared to what would come later), and dropping the ridiculous Murphy Brown type outfits. It all worked. I think the nose job came a few years later. The WWF never let her show of her sex appeal or body much which saddened me as a teenager. She looked good even till 99 despite the cartoonish implants

I think Bret constantly winning matches with roll ups hurt his credibility at least slightly. I mean I went to house show summer of 95 and he beat Jean Pierre Laffite with a roll up! At a freaking house show. He really needed a non-submission finisher

Jakked and Metal became full recap shows once Velocity and Confidential started. They were re-named Afterburn and Bottom Line. At some point they became international shows only (edit 2005). In fact I think one of them still might be airing. so they haven't had a magazine style show in seven years at this point. Maybe they just go the easy route here and start one up again and interesting how Mania and Livewire both eventually ended up as recap shows. It always seeemed that way when WWF tried something different on C type shows

I guess I'm the only one that read this online in 1997 but Dan Spivey was supposedly in consideration for the Kane character at the time. I swear I'm not making that up. He was already in his mid 40s then -
Show is a much better worker as a face and a much better character as a heel
-
well he's taking shots at Vince and Hunter and said the you tube show was the worst way possible to start the show. He's in a "add snippy comments" mood. Like something is bugging him
-
Punk headed into his eighth month as champion. Since he pinned Kane maybe they'll go another around with Bryan next month. Meltz seems in a pissed off mood. Wonder is something went down backstage at the PPV?
-
I was just having this discussion yesterday actually. Can you imagine an old time JCP fan in late 1994 when the top heels in the company were Brutus Beefcake, Earthquake and Kevin Sullivan? It had to have been a point of no return for many
-
yeah always wanted to know this. The in ring time on RAW just plummets around September
-
of course there is the infamous moment on the Summerslam call in show the week before where a fan predicted Tatanka would turn and Vince's bewildered reaction is of course fantastic. I marked for the turn at the time but the fact they didn't change his look I think hurt the progression of the angle

[1994-08-29-WWF-Summerslam] Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (Cage)
Strummer replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
I guess growing up mainly on the WWF style this match had us going crazy at the time. We were going batshit at all the teases and climbing spots. I was drenched in sweat by the time the match was over. My cousin and I were the only ones rooting for Owen and we loved the post match beatdown. I can remember him clearly saying "Yeah Bret won the match but what about NOW" This was the most fun period for me to watch wrestling with other kids/relatives. By 1997 or so most had stopped watching or didn't care anymore. 93-96 was the best as far as pure fun goes- 21 replies

[1994-08-24-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVIII] Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan
Strummer replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
this is the match that Flair was supposed to go over and win the title to build to the Havoc match, right? Hogan vetoed to a countout finish the day of the show I believe- 23 replies

I think this is pretty much dead on. They put over who they like and the guys that became big stars later on in their company/territory. And yes they pretend that WCW didn't exist before Nitro started airing. By all accounts no one in the WWF paid much attention to WCW before the MNWs
-
yes. Around 98 or 99

This is why the Deuce, Domino and Cherry characters were created a few years ago To make Vince feel nostalgic about his teenage years
