  1. It's been a while but I remember him arguing against the "Work smart", "Play your role well" trend on the net and being more into the "high impact" offense stuff that was popular in the beginning part of the decade
  2. I remember in one of his last appearances on the show Zenk was clearly reading one of his "rants" off of a script. It was so obvious and Dave wasn't pleased. And of course you had that weird story where Stephanie was raped in a bar or something. He was great on the show until it started becoming forced
  3. According to PWI Sheamus winning was simply done to suprise the audience and for the unpredictability of the Rumble match oh and Jericho was originally going to win
  4. have to take into acoount in 99 that Russo was still writing and he's not a fan of the unstoppable monster gimmick in wrestling. It's the first thing he wanted to change about Goldberg when he jumped to WCW
  5. I think the Rodman/Savage stuff from summer 99 was also Hervey's idea IIRC
  6. Are you sure about Runnels ? She hated most of Russo shit in 99. Hated the PMS thing (no shit), hated the "being pregnant and losing her baby" crap. I was talking about in terms of push and screen time. There was the Hardys and E & C stuff initially but she got much less TV time once Russo left. In summer of 99 she was on RAW and Heat pretty much every week in multiple segments

  8. I actually listened to the near hour long interview Stephanie did with that Bodybuilding website and I don't know I kind of feel sorry for her. She comes across as someone with low self esteem and severe body issues. Plus the part about making sure she is home for her kids because her parents weren't around for her growing up was kinda sad. Maybe I'm way off but she came off like a sympathetic figure
  9. Sheamus won the Rumble. Didn't see that one coming
  10. Missy being in "no condition to perform" really hurt her ECW run. I guess I didn't notice that stuff back then but she's completely out of it most of the time, especially during the Pulp Fiction closing segments she was in
  11. also Russo leaving for WCW because he was a big D-Lo supporter. I would say Russo leaving hurt him the most. Also add in Gangrel, Billy Gunn, Jarrett (who left anyway so..) and Terri Runnels to that group
  12. I could have went to Royal Rumble 92 but pussed out to stay home and watch the show with my cousins and brother instead. I don't know I always liked watching the PPVs like that but it was still a dumb decision. It wasn't like my mother had any qualms about buying a ticket No Mercy 2000. Was going to go but woke up the morning of the show sick as hell. psss plus I also didn't want to miss Game 2 of the subway series (bad decision) Again lame on my part I guess I could have convinced my parents to go the Clash in Troy, NY in 89 (Flair v Funk obv.) but I only knew of WCW through Worldwide and the Apter mags at the time. The show was the talk of school the next day. My friend Brent went to the show. (I've mentioned before his father did TV squash jobs at the Poughkeepsie tapings in the early 80s although untrained) IIRC the show took place on a Tuesday and we had "Computer" class the next day where we just lounged around and talked about shit. That clash was the topic that day In attending live events I much prefer house shows
  13. It's too bad, but it was stupid on their part, Gangrel was a great character and a solid enough worker. Have Luna cut the promos for him, and that's it. He didn't need to talk. That's why managers were needed, to back up workers who couldn't cut promo, but they were in this "everyone has to cut promos" era which sucked. From the interviews I've heard from him, Dave Heath was a shy, humble guy who wasn't particulary self confident. Add to the fact that Luna got in trouble with Sable at the same time, and Gangrel was doomed. To me he was much better in the ring than Edge, and had a much better character too. I was very disapointed about the way things turned out for this guy, he deserved better. And I can't forget the story of Luna coming back to the dressing room after making useless Sable look like a million dollar and being ignored by the entire locker room while Sable got all the praise, and feeling like shit and wanting to cry. She mentionned one guy who came to her and put her over big, but I forgot who it was. Luna was another sensitive hard working girl who deserved way better than she got. Shit, Luna & Heath were good people, I guess that's why they got fucked. Owen Hart
  14. Punk and Beth Phoenix broke up. He trashed her pretty bad on some radio show calling her a "D-Bag". Maybe that's why her push has stalled the last few months (and Nattie's by association)
  15. Agreed. In a recent shoot interview, Shane Douglas gives him tons of credit for working in really tough conditions, that don't compare at all with what WCW and WWF announcers were working with at the same time, and pulling it off despite all the bullshit. Joey was a big part of getting the ECW product over. I think he got exposed as soon as the first PPV, and his character became a bit annoying after 1998. He was at his best on his own before that. I was always under the impression that every line he had was fed to him by Paul Heyman. When Joey signed with WWE back in 05 didn't Heyman tell Vince McMahon that he would have to carefully produce all of his commentary? (like Heyman did in ECW) I remember something like that being reported at the time
  16. I loved how Stephanie used to get a sad droopy look on her face when trying to get over the storylines and then would go right back to her Kathie Lee Gifford/Marie Osmond amalgamation. Todd was a local DJ up here (Albany/Schenectady) when I was growing up. Used to listen to him everyday on the way to school. As horrid as you could imagine
  17. I'm pretty sure WCW dropped that rule because the WWF kept making fun of them for it during the MNW period.
  18. actually the nose bleed was real. He broke his nose several times and can make it bleed on command by simply sticking his finger up his nostril and pushing against the septum. He was able to do this off camera
  19. I remember having this match on tape in summer of 95 and showing it to my cousin. It really made her feel uncomfortable and seemed to bother her quite a bit (at the time she was 24). I wasn't trying to be malicious one bit. I just had never seen anything like this and wanted someone else to see it. In retrospect I should have never showed her. ECW produced these kinds of reactions I guess
  20. It will be interesting to see how much power Hunter really has. If Vince is still on the warpath then it's probably over for those three before it even started. But if this is Hunter's direction it will probably get some time
  21. and I agree with what Bix said on Twitter that this had to have been a HHH trial run writing the show. It was just so different and old school
  22. that kane/Cena segment was so strange. What was with Cena's facial expression at the end? Looked like he had just had his wisdom teeth pulled
  23. I was only seeing WCW through Wordwide during this time and they ran the hell out of this angle (and over all storyline) Seems like they thought Dave could have been an 80s type upper midcard goofy face and I remember the sound effects segment!
  24. is this the match where Foley complained afterwards that Sandman was drunk and he didn't feel safe working in the ring with him? I wanna say that comes later in the year but maybe this is it
  25. Tito hadn't been pushed as a singles star for six years at that point. He is full of shit. He was strictly a JTTS
