  1. Mutoh left the company nine years ago...
  2. That's the thing, we don't really know. I wish I could have just ASKED Gedo a few weeks ago, but the odds of a Japanese wrestler breaking kayfabe to a random pasty gaijin have to be infinitessimal...
  3. How many people have seen enough of them in SMW/Memphis to judge properly? That's the tricky part.
  4. Supposedly the bookers are Gedo & Jado. I find the style to be overly bland, but at least you won't get an IWGP match with zero/low effort or crappy fake shoot stuff.
  5. Bumping this because I *finally* got in touch with him and should do it in the next week!
  6. Vince killed the territory system. Period, full stop.
  7. 1. Two shills in a week? Really? 1a. There's a board for shills. 2. You link to a message board that isn't public so we have no way of knowing what is going on. C'mon son.
  8. I'll add that based on TV ratings in Mexico, the ones primarily responsible for killing the 'lucha tradition' are the Mexican fans and promotions. I'm in the "not a raid" camp. WWE isn't going to sign 5+, or even 3+ in all likelihood. Meanwhile, how many AWA guys did they sign, 10 or more?
  9. Hokuto's decision to arbitrarily stop selling the leg bugged the crap out of me. The last 5 minutes were great but only in a vaccum.
  10. I thought it was clear at the time that WWF bought WCW at a too-low, fire-sale price.
  11. FWIW, Steve Corino said that Kawada didn't call his spots, he just expected you to know what to do.
  12. It would help your cause if you bothered to look at what was already nominated, or a mortal lock to be on.
  13. I guess Ishikawa returned for SWS. Reading that made me google him, and I discovered that he wrestled Taker in '92. The more you know!
  14. I don't think he was consistent in the '90s. Most people first saw him in All Japan, and he just wasn't on par with their top guys. That said, my opinion of '90s Takayama has soared over the last three years.
  15. The boss. Specifically, when there's one person who is without question in charge of a promotion. Granted that's not really something unusual for pro wrestling, but right now there isn't a 'boss' of New Japan or NOAH, there isn't really one in TNA, etc.
  16. I lean towards JDW on this. Not everything we see as a callback is explicitly intended as such, but even unintentional continuity is still continuity. I especially tend to give the benefit of the doubt to Japanese matches, since in Japan almost everything is 'canon'. Matches are laid out in certain ways, certain wrestlers have similar things happen to them, and when it's done properly it adds depth and drama to the match rather than being predictable. The best Misawa matches revolved around whether or not he made his big comeback, and that struggle was the polar opposite of the move-for-move same Hulk Hogan style comeback. Was 6/9/95 wrestled with "Kawada and Taue keep cutting Misawa's comeback off" explicitly in mind? Maybe not, but they laid the match out in a way that fans who have learned to expect the comeback are left on the edge of their seats each time Misawa gets cut off. It's subtle compared to the average callback spot, but I still think it's legitimate.
  17. One issue with it is that people (myself included) tend to be inconsistent. For instance you don't see "Ohmori", though I think I saw it once on a show.
  18. I thought this was a big letdown. Very repetitive from Fujinami's end.
  19. Tenryu vs Mutoh from '01 holds up. Keep in mind we are talking about Tenryu here.
  20. I first saw Liger/Tenryu matched up in a tag from, I think, 2004. I was disappointed. Ah, but this more than made up for it. I wish there was more '90s Liger vs Heavies stuff.
  21. And that's my point in bringing him up. Bo Jackson was supposed to be a superstar on par with Jordan but his career ended early and very soon fell off the face of the earth. There's no reason why you should know him.
  22. Bix's post prompted me to look up the fact that Kox is still alive at age 80. Good for him.
  23. My point is that Bo Jackson was supposed to be an iconic athlete (ie. on par with MJ and Wayne) and now he's an afterthought.
  24. Then it is ESSENTIAL.
