Was the mindset that Sarge didn't NEED a big title?

Tony Schiavone and early 90s WCW announcing
Matt D replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
Oh god. I just heard a Rivera/Mr. X PTW match with Gorilla/Red Lyons announcing where he went on about how too many wrestlers were going to the chinlock and how it wasn't effecitve unless you had a big weight advantage. And if they were just "stalling for time" or what. Also, later on he was knocking the side headlock a lot, but then claimed the front facelock to be incredibly devastating. Funny stuff. I think that people's big problem with Monsoon is that he was wildly different in the mid 80s than he was in 89-91. -
Talkin' Stone Cold Violence Against Women Paranoid Blues
Matt D replied to Matt D's topic in Pro Wrestling
For some reason, Warrior/Sherri in the cage right after Royal Rumble was more unpleasant to me than most of these examples. -
WWE advertising The Rock's in-ring return for Survivor Series
Matt D replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
What makes him special in-ring in 2011? Hitting the rock bottom/people's elbow/punch combo. His entrance. Maybe him interacting with 4 other guys in a promo. The fact that you can say that he's wrestling. -
It's already dead for most people. Honestly, and I hate being that guy to bring this up, because usually we don't do that here, but seriously, I don't get why you hang out in most of these notes. I get why you might hang out in a note about a topic that appeals more to you here, absolutely. I get why you're here in general. This is a good board, but I really don't why you spend so much time in notes about the WWE product just to flaunt the fact that you don't watch it. -- As for cautious optimism. I think Money in the Bank (and Punk's antics during the week thereafter) got some people to put their guard down. The truth of it is that WWE has been comedically screwing up summer angles since Angle vs HHH

As a kid I wondered what he had against Tito Santana.

WWE advertising The Rock's in-ring return for Survivor Series
Matt D replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
Seriously, it's Survivor series. Have him tag in for 2 mins, eliminate a guy or two. -
Part of the problem I have with this note is that I sync up pretty well with a lot of the opinions here. That's kind of why I'm here. Elsewhere on the internet, I could say Kurt Angle, but that would make no sense here. Maybe.. Okay, I'm not a huge fan of 98 Steve Austin. I like 92-96 Steve Austin. I like 01 Steve Austin. I'm not a huge fan of 98 Steve Austin.

Rock should be in a big ten man tag. Best way to make it seem special but not so special as to tarnish the Mania match. -
I will say this: Sherri wasn't a woman. She was a force of nature. And also a witch. She was tossing magic all over the place around Sumerslam with Zeus. Warrior was way worse to her too. He was trying to murder her.

That's the thing, though. The people who went to the school. WWF was inclusive. If you were a WWF Fan, that was enough. That was like going to the school. Then the bully was on your side. As for Stone Cold, there are plenty of examples of him being a bully and stunnering people that didn't deserve it. Stunnering HHH or The Big Show isn't bullying. Stunnering Holly every week for a year and stealing his beer money is bullying. The notion that the WWF/WWE is like a school where everyone roots for everyone on the team is nonsensical. Hogan vs Savage in MSG in early 1986. They're both on the WWF "team". So were the fans rooting for both? Savage-Steamer at Mania the next year. Both on the WWF Team. Fans rooting for both? Were the rooting for the clear bully in it (Savage)? Folks don't root for true bullies. They think they're cocksuckers. John The fans root for the babyfaces. The babyfaces are on your team. The heels are on the other team. At least in 80s WWF. I don't think that's a crazy notion. And as for Austin, I was thinking Stacy

Best worker aged 45+ NOT called Ric Flair or Terry Funk?
Matt D replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I feel like Tracy Smothers has to be having amazing matches right now, but I'm just not fortunate enough to see them. -
No way. Everyone loves an asshole bully that it's socially acceptable to root for.
-
People like bullies.

They worked SO SO hard not to have Cena do anything bad last year. They went out of their way to prevent him from FUing Orton even when Barrett ordered him to. It was amazing.

I think it's an effective promo. It just goes against my personal sensibilities and love of heel Young Pistol Tracy.

Why the hell doesn't Bigelow get to celebrate in the ring with Hogan at the end of Survivor Series?

I really don't know much about St. Louis. I should just read that book.

I wonder what fun summer angle they screw up next year.

Was the draw between Rotunda and Flair from 1/84 taped?

So Harley Race, on one of his shoots, talked about how in Kansas City(I think), in the 60s, they used to wrestle in front of posh attendees who were eating expensive dinners. I find that whole thing concept sort of fascinating. Is there any place I can learn more about all that?
