I can’t overemphasize how pissed I am about their reality show. I’m a grown man with a job and family to worry about and I shouldn’t let things like that bother me, but fuck does it bother me. I think I just have a visceral hatred for shows like that. Anyway (deep breath), Is Nyla’s music new? It’s pretty cool.

I think Kenny is starting to look unhinged. It’s a nice touch. Oh fuck me. The Rhodes are either completely clueless or they’re turning heel. A fucking reality series!!?!? God damn.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Cutler wrestle. He was surprisingly good in this.

Ain’t nothing good coming from the one Buck’s family being at ringside.

I kinda 180’d on that QT segment. I haven’t liked the angle at all so far. It was fine when he was showing some resentment at the new members of their “family”, but last week when like eight guys got pissed because he didn’t come out to help them against one guy, that was dumb. I wasn’t digging his promo too much. Too much “shooty” stuff at first. But I really dig the exhibition thing. It’s so old school. Seems like something a guy would talk Dusty into and then like use a weapon to injure him or something. The bad news is, it all has to be leading to a Cody/QT match and I’m not really interested in that at all.

Oooh. Have FTR faced Santana and Ortiz yet? That should be fun.
-
There’s a lot of potential and talent in and around that ring right now. And Shawn Spears is also there.

It wasn’t that the 10-man was going to be some amazing match. It’s that you don’t knowingly cost ten of your co-workers their spot on the biggest show of the year. I’m sure all ten guys got paid, but it’s still shitty to do that to those guys.

You hit the nail on the head, @SomethingSavage. Earlier this year, AEW had me actually looking forward to tuning in every week. That’s mostly gone now after they didn’t really deliver on some of the stuff I was looking forward to. But then they have something like that women’s match last week, and I look forward to watching again. Just wish they’d be more consistent. i also feel like there’s almost no reason to watch wrestling live. There’s so much filler on everyone’s shows. It’s easier to watch the next day and skip the stuff you don’t like.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, Watts’ worldview is not much better than Vince’s either.
-
What do you mean by Mid South being “heavy handed”, @Loss? Not disagreeing with you, I just don’t understand what you mean.

I agree that no one has (and probably won’t ever) booked a compelling “sports-based” promotion. I mean, the whole reason wrestling became worked in the first place was to control the outcomes. The problem with booking it like a sport is you end up getting locked into matchups that maybe aren’t the most desirable.

That was fucking incredible. So many times, I feel like there are insane spots in deathmatches, but then the finish doesn’t measure up. I thought the finish in this was perfect.

Looks like we’re at least getting closer to Miro being rid of Sabian.

I really Hadn’t seen much of the Good Bros before AEW, so I didn’t have much of an opinion. I can safely say I don’t like them now. Anderson is just boring in the ring and Gallows is flat-out bad. Their finisher is weak as shit, too. They’re fine as Kenny’s flunkies, but that’s about it.
-
I’m not a fan of the Good Brothers, but that was kayfabe brilliant to jump Kingston on his entrance since Mox comes in from further out in the area.

The highlight of the match for me was the top rope rana. After it, my son said, “I could do that to you.” He’s 3 and I’m 6’2” 245 lbs. Itd be like Archer selling for Marko.
-
Jeez. Give QT a break. There’s five guys out there helping Cody against one dude. Did they really need him out there?
-
I wish AEW had more defined heels and faces for the simple reason that my son asks me who the “good guy” and “bad guy” are every match. Sometimes, like with Penta, it’s like, “Well, he’s kind of both?”
-
That dunk was actually the first I saw of Henry. Weirdly, I remember being in a Foot Locker and they had it on a tv in there.
-
Well, I do now.

And the thing is, I really think they have great ideas. They just need someone to flesh them out a bit. Like a script doctor in Hollywood. I like the idea of talent being heavily involved in their storylines, but not everyone is going to be good at that. They just need that guidance.

First off, I'm one of those "wants AEW to succeed" guys. I have one issue with their booking, though. I feel like most of their booking starts with "Wouldn't it be cool if..." and goes from there. There's nothing wrong with booking "cool" things. Cool things are, well, cool. It's just that sometimes I don't feel like they get past that. "Wouldn't it be cool if Cody and Penta feuded?" Yes, but how/why? "Wouldn't it be cool if we did an exploding barb wire deathmatch?" Yes! That would be amazing! But then what? I like the suggestion that Kahn needs his "Patterson". They (whoever is coming up with ideas in AEW) have a lot of cool ideas. They just need someone to shepherd them through.

Exactly right. I have, however, seen a bully stop bullying once he got his ass kicked.

What if he’d shown up with a fire-spitting baby? I stared this whole discussion about him, so I feel like I should point out that Steamboat is one of my all-time favorites. It just occurred to me that his most-classic matches were title matches, but he never really got memorable reigns.
