artDDP
http://www.wwe.com/inside/mike-chioda-suspended WTF? Maybe the guy's a big pothead? I was surprised to learn George Zimmer of The Men's Wearhouse is a long-time pot user and advocate. Or it could be pain killers. I remember he got his skull cracked pretty hard by Steve Austin at WrestleMania XV. I'm sure the guy's taken a few pretty stiff shots in his day. Didn't the WWE go on a witch hunt against the potheads on its payroll a few years ago and smoke them all out (pun intended)?

Log
http://www.wwe.com/inside/mike-chioda-suspended WTF? A couple of years ago, I was in a bar in Louisville and a bunch of WWE guys came in. I can't remember who all was there, but I think Shad Gaspar (sp?) was one of them, maybe the Tolands and some other guys that have since been cut. Anyway, what struck me was that Chioda was one of the bigger dudes in the group. I think that sometimes just being around all these juiced-up guys every day, day-in and day-out, would make someone want to fit in and get bigger. Also, as artDDP pointed out, he's probably taken some knocks in his career and may need some pain help.

Didn't the WWE go on a witch hunt against the potheads on its payroll a few years ago and smoke them all out (pun intended)? I'm kind of fuzzy on this, but I remember sometime recently they announced they have even begun testing against synthetic weed (K2 and the like). Whenever it gets brought up, Meltzer always mentions how large the fine is and how the wrestlers are very frustrated with the rules.

jdw
His reasons for doing them were a bit odd: I was there for four weeks before I started doing steroids. I was tired from traveling five days a week on no sleep, I was working and thinking so hard every day, and my brain felt as if it were about to explode. I remember riding in the car one day in Florida with my traveling crew and someone saying, “Bobby, you gotta get on the gas…” Anyway, this is an interesting interview of Bob: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/06/bob_mould.html John
Bix
A lot of it was trying to keep continuity. They brought in a couple writers from New York who were ADD, who were so scattered that they couldn’t remember what they’d done from week to week. We’d write the stories on Wednesday and Thursday at the meetings, and I would say, “We did this two weeks ago.” Or there would be things that were sort of homophobic or racist, and I would say, “Do you really want to have the Mexican guy hit the Japanese guy over the head with a tequila bottle?” And somebody would be like, “Are you calling me a racist?” And I’d say, “No, but the idea is a little funny.” I became the naysayer with a certain group, and with another group, they were counting on me to be the naysayer. It was a little crazy.Awesome.
