Loss
Highlights of Jarrett/Lawler vs Moondogs 4/6 at Mid South Coliseum. Another wild match. They seem to be going in the heel versus heel direction with Embry and the Moondogs, or at least they're slowly turning him, but he says Lawler and Jarrett need him and he wants to team with him. Lawler and Jarrett are skeptical, saying they've done a fine job on their own. Embry asks how they can say that when the Moondogs are still here. He pushes over the announce table to make his point, but Lawler told him he's made his bed, now he has to lie in it.
shoe
A really cool segment where they really could have played this out for a month.
MikeCampbell
Awesome promo from Embry, especially him making the point of saying the fans don't care for him and the feeling is mutual, and also namedropping guys who'd left the area like Fuller and Idol. WingedEagle
We start with clips from another great brawl at the MSC with more boards, chairs and garbage cans. The Moondogs are selling for most of it and take a bloody beating before a Dog pins Lawler with Lee holding his leg. After that, Embry is in studio to give one of the highlight promos of the year so far, calling out just about everybody in this angle. Lawler & Jarrett come out as Embry wants to team with them, and he proceeds to tell them that they need him because he's the nastiest & lowest thing around. He is absolutely on fire and a great addition to this feud.
PeteF3
Moondogs steal another victory at the MSC with interference from Richard Lee. All the interchangeable Moondogs would tend to water things down, but I guess the upside is the matches don't lose anything when one member is swapped out for another. Eric Embry has been stewing while the video has been playing, and declares that Lawler & Jarrett need him as a partner. He calls both of them out and shoves over the desk in a blind rage, but Lawler tells him that he's on his own. Definitely the smart move to milk this over the course of a few weeks--Embry has simply done too much to turn in one week. This sort of attention to detail was a hallmark of the USWA and SMW, and in Memphis it's particularly amazing considering the sheer number of angles they ran. Robert S
Embry's promo here was fantastic. "You know I would go to hell and back to win a match. I am the lowest of the low."
garretta
Serious question: Were all of these Dogs-Lawler/Jeff matches no-DQ, or did the refs decide not to even bother to enforce the weapons rules? How Lawler could work an anti-hardcore angle with ECW after doing some of this stuff is absolutely beyond me. Why shouldn't Lee interfere? It's not like any of the other rules are being followed. Can the Dogs even work a non-weapons tag match? My guess would be no, based on their physiques. Embry's promo would have been better if he hadn't screamed it at the top of his lungs, but he has a point: Who else can Lawler and Jeff get for an equal fight, since there are now three Dogs? Fuller's gone, Idol barely showed up, Anthony's on the way out, and Dundee's either injured or retired. Even Dutch is in the booth over in Knoxville. They literally have no one else to team with and they know it. I like Lawler not just accepting right away, since Embry's more than capable of hatching a plot with Lee to turn on him and Jeff and cripple them both, but we all know he'll accept eventually. It's just a question of time. How close are we to a Jackie Fargo sighting? He's the only stop Papa hasn't pulled out yet in this feud short of returning to the ring himself. PeteF3
Yes, Lee supposedly had it in their contracts that all their matches were under "Moondog Rules," a la Raven in 1997 WCW.
garretta
Okay, that explains a lot and changes my perspective a bit. Thanks as always, Pete!
dawho5
So after the Moondogs came around nobody really sold chains after this right? Seriously, these matches are 75% foreign object usage. And they go on long enough where you get the idea that maybe a foreign object doesn't mean much. That being said, great brawling in the MSC. Embry's promo is great and Lawler actually has to say no right away. After all the shit Embry has pulled there is no way this is a fast turn.
