Jarrett and Travis are out for an interview. Iceman Parsons quickly interrupts and is held off by security guards, because he doesn't even work for this promotion. He's escorted out by security in a pretty wild scene.

Later in the show, Jarrett wins a squash and Iceman immediately runs out and they have a pretty awesome fight on the floor. The guys are being separated, and Iceman is handcuffed. He seems to have a pretty vocal fan contingency, which just adds to the chaos of all of this. Total mayhem and swearing and yes, this was an attempt to copy the Lawler/Snowman angle in Memphis. It is great in its own way. Jarrett says if he can't get Iceman in the ring, he'll quit. Jarrett is phenomenal in this.

Jarrett and Travis are hyping an upcoming tag match against Devastation (is the "Inc." gone now?) when suddenly Iceman King Parsons crashes the area. Iceman is upset that Jarrett has a job with the USWA and he doesn't, and eventually security and John Brazelle escort him away from the ring area in a fairly intense scene.

Later on Iceman, even though he was supposedly arrested for trespassing, crashes the area again after a Jarrett squash and another shoot-style fight takes place on the floor. Now Iceman is taken out in handcuffs as Jarrett threatens John Brazelle that if he doesn't get a match with Parsons, he quits.

It's a re-do of the initial Lawler/Snowman angle but this doesn't really measure up. It's not a total failing because we're talking about the Angle of the Year, but the attempts at shoot/spontaneity fall pretty flat. The camera catches Parsons right as he makes his entrance and there are a lot of convenient reaction shots, though everybody plays their role well. Furthermore, while Snowman was only known to listeners of local black radio or readers of black newspaper coverage in Memphis, the Iceman is a longtime Sportatorium staple and the crowd is clearly excited and happy to see him back. The second segment comes off much better. We again get a convenient camera shot of the Iceman's entrance but the intensity is upped a bit with some very good use of selective bleeping. Still, Snowman's intentions were clear from the get-go ("The USWA is racist") while Iceman's issues with Jarrett seem more personal and I'm having some trouble grasping each guy's motivation. Hopefully some backstory is spelled out going forward.

For a guy who was almost a clown act for most of his career, whether babyface or heel, Iceman does make for a good thug troublemaker.

They ran off Torres. Good. Jarrett has words for that rag head General. Iceman Parsons interrupts to have his say at Jarrett. He gets physical with security. Parsons wants a piece of Jarrett but security keeps everyone apart.

Jarrett wins his match and Parsons attacks him. They roll around outside and at one point Parsons manages to get a cord wrapped around his neck. Parsons gets handcuffed leading to a BS chant from the crowd. Jarrett wants a match with Parsons and swears on camera. He will quit if he doesn’t get a match. Best Jarrett has looked so far.

This isn't really a copy of Lawler/Snowman at all to me. Rather, it's a new way to introduce a traditional type of feud that's similar to the way Lawler/Snowman was introduced. They copied the setup, but not the issue. The major problem with that is that while Snowman was a legitimately scary-looking guy who most of Lawler's fans had only heard of through the Memphis area papers and black radio stations, Iceman's a longtime Dallas wrestling favorite (even when he's a heel) going back to the days before David Von Erich's death. We heard at least one fan yelling, "Welcome back, Ice!" and there was an audible "Bullshit!" chant as he was handcuffed and led away. This is no hostile invasion, no matter how anyone wants to dress it up. This makes Jarrett's profane anger out of place and kills the intended effect dead.

Can it still be a good feud? Of course. But it's no potential game-changer the way Lawler/Snowman was, not even close. Put a belt on one of these two somehow and we'll talk in those terms. Until then, this is just a slightly different way to introduce an upper midcard feud, nothing more. Everyone played their parts well, but it's hard to give this too much praise when nothing earthshaking's supposed to come of it.

I missed Iceman getting his neck caught in the security rope, what with all the other chaos. If it really happened, OUCH!

Billy Joe Travis and Jeff Jarrett are out for an interview with Craig Johnson and he says how they’ve been having their problems with Devastation Inc. Travis tells General Akhbar that one by one they’re going to get them. They’ve got a match with Gary Young and Sweet Daddy Falcone, they’ve already got rid of Chico Torres, and they’re next. Jarrett tells ‘rag head’ that Chico Torres thought that hot sauce was a real good idea, but he found out when he put that Figure Four on him, and now he’s not around here anymore. He’s got another Figure Four for Young, Falcone and Akhbar, so why don’t they all just come down to that ring. At this point Iceman Parsons comes down the aisle and gets in Jarrett’s face. A couple of security guards are out almost immediately and Johnson is saying that he’s not even in this organization. They’re doing The Snowman angle in Dallas! Security are trying to stop him, but Iceman says that he’s working all over the country trying to make a living and they’ve got punks like Jeff Jarrett in the main event. John Brozell is out next and tells Iceman that he doesn’t have any business here and he’s trespassing. Parsons shoves Brozell and security then get him out of there while he continues to mouth off at Jarrett.

Jarrett has just defeated Ed Robinson and Parsons is out again and the two of them start fighting (or should that be ‘rolling around’) at ringside. Billy Joe Travis, Brickhouse Brown, Gary Young and Sweet Daddy Falcone are out to separate them however Jarrett breaks free, charges back towards Parsons and it’s on again. John Brozell is out again and security ends up cuffing the Iceman and escorting him to the back. Jarrett then tells him that he wants a match with Parsons as he ‘humiliated’ him, and says that if he doesn’t get one he’ll quit.

I imagine that if you hadn’t seen Jerry Lawler and The Snowman this would’ve looked more impressive and come across as a pretty chaotic scene, as it was, it just seemed like a cheap imitation. Pete has covered the main things that I noted down when watching this, but I didn’t even know that Parsons wasn’t working for the USWA. He had been a mainstay for World Class for so long that I thought he was in the promotion now, and it was only when Craig Johnson said that ‘he’s not in the organization’ did the penny drop on what they were doing. The other reason I didn’t realize it was an ‘outsider’ angle was because the camera cuts to Parsons as he is walking down the aisle to ringside. Why do this if you are trying to portray an element of realism? Sure fire way to give away that it’s a work. The reason that this presentation worked for Lawler and The Snowman was because at first you couldn’t tell whether it was a work or a shoot. It was obvious here from the first moment you saw Parsons. Not sure what he did to ‘humiliate’ Jarrett, but it sure feels like they’re rushing the angle too with him wanting the match straight away.
