Your Wrestling Regrets

That Montreal ever happened. Putting aside Matt D's point about Owen. I think we missed out on a ton of great wrestling matches and feuds from Bret. Besides the obvious blow off match with Austin. There were obvious feuds with Foley, Shamrock and an upwardly moblie Rock, and by the time they wrapped up Angle, Jericho and Benoit would have been in the company.

That Dustin Rhodes had a run in ECW in 1995 between stints in the big 2. He would have been a great foil for Douglas and a great mystery partner for Dreamer in a wild brawl against Raven & Stevie and/or Cactus.

 

That ECW actually had some real money behind it. Obviously to pay all the people they stiffed. But to be a viable 3rd alternative for guys to go to. Flair, Savage, Bret and Vader all having runs there could have been great.

I'm not sure if this should go in here or in the confessions thread, because it makes me look like a piece of crap, but I have always wished that we got the Vince funeral show that never happened because of Benoit. Obviously, moreso than missing the show I would prefer that Benoit hadn't killed anyone. But I was pumped for that Raw, dammit, and it probably would have been one of the most memorable editions of the longest-running weekly episodic show on TV. I know the show was supposed to end with Daniel Beck of the Federal Investigation Commission arresting Linda for Vince's murder, but who knows what other wackiness we missed out on? What a tragedy.

Vince's almost never-seen half-brother was supposed to be at that show, too.

 

Since I'm approaching that time period in my Yearbook-viewing, i regret that Baba either never could close or try to close a deal to bring Nobuhiko Takada into AJPW in late '96, a move that would have given the promotion a needed shot in the arm. I'm not sure just how good Takada vs. Misawa or Kobashi would actually be, but they'd be big money matches and he and Kawada could have brought the Budokan house down.

I have been to Japan pretty much every year since 2006, sometimes more than once, and I have never been to a wrestling show. That's not my regret though, my regret is that I wish I had gone there when I was younger to at least catch the tail end of the great NJPW Tokyo Dome shows.

 

It must have also been fascinating travelling there in early/mid 90s like jdw, Dave, Bob Barnett, Kurt Brown and others got to do.

- That the VCR wasn't commercialized until the 80's.

- Not being alive during the territory area and not being in one of the better territory area's

- Not being in Japan during the 80's/90's

I regret taping over hours of VHS tapes my uncle gave me. He recorded hours of pro wrestling from the mid-80s to around 1991 and gave it all to me in the early 90s. It was all sorts of TV broadcasts and live PPVs and tons of Coliseum Video releases. I wound up taping over or losing lots of that stuff over the years.

I regret not begging my mom and dad that I wanted to go to Mania 3 at the Silverdome. My mom was a secretary for Little Caesars and she got us tix to the SNME at Joe Louis Arena that setup Mania 3. I kept figuring my dad was going to surpise us w/tix on the day of Mania. I was so bummed as a 10 year old who grew up 40 minutes away from the Dome.

You know what, I may be getting confused then because he was on a Japanese game show called Naruhodo the World w/ Kurt, Fisico Nuclear and Chris Zavisa. I imagined he went to the Universal tour of 1990. I never thought about it but they of course filmed it in Los Angeles (there are also parts where they visit Bob, Kurt and Zavisa's houses).

90% of all the WWE licensed DVDs I purchased. With the Network, there is zero need for these things as most everything worth having WWE-based is available on there (the little that isn't makes up the other 10%). I also regret not trying to sell them sooner (or, rather, at all - they're collecting dust in my closet and have been for years). 8 years ago, the RVD One of a Kind set seemed like a steal at $10...now, I'm wishing I had that $10 back.

LOL, I just sold a shit load of WWE DVD'S in an eBay lot and wish I did it before they launched the network.

 

I regret they didn't do more with that Zeb vs Heyman feud last year. Heel vs heel managers is my favorite wrestling trope that doesn't get done nearly enough.

I dont know about all that....I dont care if its all on the network or anywhere else, I will always keep ALL my media on hand....you never know what might happen with technology...knowing I have all those shows and DVD;s and VHS still safe and protected and available at ANY moment is comforting

 

For my regret(s):

 

That the AWA's major shows and matches in the 70s and 80's arent all complete matches and not clipped up from the major arenas.

 

That all AWA TV shows from 82 - 85 were complete and available and not in comps / ciips.

 

That there was more of the Big Show Main Events complete on tape from the following promotions instead of the highlights we'd get on the TV:

SECW

Continental

Florida

Vancouver

Maritimes

Calgary

 

That I had a shit ton of money to buy every AJPW / NJPW / NOAH Japanese shows I dont have now!!

 

So for me, its all about the video and adding and adding.....

I wish Flair and Herd could have at least worked things out enough for Flair to drop the title to Barry Windham.

 

I wish that Russo would have left the New Age Outlaws respective WrestleMania matches alone for 'Mania 15.

 

Come to think of it, I wish Vince Russo had stayed in the video store business.

One thing I do regret is Vince not having more confidence in Randy Savage in 1993/1994 time, Randy could still show he could go in WCW and it's a shame that Randy never got to Main Event Wrestlemania against Shawn Michaels. I loved their feud during the 1992 European tour and felt this was a wasted opportunity, yes I know they established the New Generation but to see Macho helping Shawn would have been good. I remember Yokozuna vs Savage on Raw for the belt and Wrestlemania 10 would have been so much better if we got Savage/Bret at the Main Event.

Having Savage as the same kind of nut character in 1997 WWF would have been amazing......added in with everything else at that time...a 97 Austin vs 97 Savage feud could have been MONEY....even better than DDP / Savage was....

 

I also regret that Russo fucked up the IC and Hardcore title matches at Mania 15 "Just for shock"

 

BUT after thinking last night, my biggest regret right now:

 

There is no good US Competition to push WWE and / or their competitor to really pull out the stops and get really creative and have a war again with "MUST SEE" weekly stuff from both shows....I would stop reading any results or rumors if it happened to really get into it and enjoy it as it happened....

I wish Kevin Von Erich left Texas after 85 and tried to make it in WWF or Crockett. He was a world class asskicking babyface. Great, great wrestler.
