Grimmas
Just a note, results like the previous one where it is the #. A pinned B means it was not taped. Any result that lists the match, has a paragraph, then says Winner - A, that is a taped show.
Grimmas
Is Martel going to become his Hogan in this lifetime? The Hogan of Canada, yes! I have another year planned out already which will make him. After that I will need some fresh blood to come in as the monster of the month. Jesse Ventura makes an OK Bobby Heenan bringing in opponents for Martel, I think.
dawho5
I only meant as Ventura's #1 hated guy who he tears down on commentary for being a fraud, etc. after experiencing how Martel wrestles in the ring. But I could see Martel being that big in Canada after an extended run.
Jesse Ewiak
Hmm, if has been stated on Titans, Tony Garea is the old fox, and Rick Martel is the new young stud that is learning his way around things from Tony, what does that make Dick? The guy who gets the fat friend at the end of the night?

dawho5
Nice main! Martel & Choshu got a big rub off of that.
JAC
And the finish to the main event sends everybody home happy. That's quite the marathon though. Good thing you only run the Forum once a month. That card must have run almost as long as AJW's Big Egg Dome show. Not that anyone would be complaining... KrisZ
I want to hear some of the fans talk about that elimination match.......ambitious stuff there.
Beast
I'm impressed by the idea and execution as I assume the NJPW/MLW relationship is just getting started. As for it going almost 2 hours, I don't know because that's a very long show. Also, I don't think most of the players were built up on TV at all beforehand so would a crowd in Nova Scotia of all places care about Riki Choshu? He's had one TV match and I don't think NJPW TV aired in Canada. Don't get me wrong, I love what you're doing, but that's my initial reaction. All for thinking outside the box and I look forward to the next chapter in this story.
goodhelmet
I think 2 hours is insane but the mass amount of guys in the match makes it easier to digest. I don't know if I would have had any one match up go longer than ten minutes though.
JHawk
I agree with goodhelmet with the exception that if the final match would have hit 15-20 I'd have bought it for the whole "I'm not losing this for my team" aspect of the story
Grimmas
Everyone makes some good points. Maple Leaf Wrestling will keep pushing the boundaries of pro wrestling. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it will fail. Stay tuned.
goodhelmet
I don't think it was a fail. I think it was a risk running a 5 hour show. Keep booking crazy ass matches.
Beast
Definitely not a fail. I think it was a pretty great first step in carving out a niche for MLW in this new crazy world of 1983 wrestling.
dawho5
I feel like it wold have ended up on some tape trader's comp after they found it just for the novelty and sheer amount of guys. The caption would have read like, "I never would have believed that there was a New Japan vs. Maple Leaf elimination tag from 1983 out there, but I came across one on this commercial tape. It's almost two hours and drags at points but I had to include it."

Grimmas
Ooh, a recap show. I was thinking I would add one of those sometime in 84. Yeah I'm thinking a prime time wrestling type show. Show stuff that was taped and TV dark matches. Actually kind of part Prime Time Wrestling, part Best of the WWF and part showing past matches that hype upcoming shows.
