Montreal Supercard & TV Thread

Yeah, I had a lot to think about on match order. In the end I put sending the crowd home happy first. 80% of the show is a downer. Vachon is hardly an outsider to Montreal. I'd say he had to go over given his legendary status there. Raymond's win was "clean" only in that we don't know who attacked Raymond and injured him. It's meant to be assumed that the Midnights did it. Also, Raymond and Condrey have been battling over the sleeper since early on in the rivalry. This is not the end.

A huge card from top to bottom... I finally know some people on your roster! I think you are right on the brink of a explosion that will move things forward. The tag team division is second to none, you are building some stars, things are aligning the right way. We discussed Andre's presence on this show and it was definitely the little kick that put it over the edge. Great stuff and there's a very bright future for Montreal.

Mad Dog match was amazing. So happy you booked that feud. I don't even remember if you told me Vachon was going over because I was pleasantly surprised to see that result. Lefebvre gained star power with his showing anyway.

I am so syked to see some of those new teams you acquired pop up in the future. Interesting to see both titles held by heels, but what a group of heels they are. I LOVE The Rougeaus and I can't even imagine how good their matches with the Condrey/Rose Midnights would be. The one you wrote sounded great at least. And Tongan Terrors are my jam.

Canada might have all the top shows of the year to themselves between you and the nascent IWF. Everybody else hit the high spots, but I've got to add that I love the idea of an alt-history where the Midnight's are best known for their intense feud with various Canadian stars up in Montreal, at least at first. Vachon-Lefebvre wouldn't get five stars from anybody, but I bet the crusty old French Canadian's would've loved it, before going outside and joining a protest for Qubecois independence.

Looking forward to the next 'round' of Montreal and your gallant fight to stop the growing IWF. :)

International Wrestling, October 7th, 1983 (Taped October 5th, 1983, Palais des Sports, Sherbrooke, QC) 3,646 fans, sellout

Opening

0:00 - 3:30

The IWA opening montage leads to a shot of Jacques, Sr. at the announce table.

Jacques, Sr.: I would like to welcome the fans to another night of International Wrestling happily, but we have a piece of video footage to show you, taken earlier this afternoon, that will render that null. Let’s just roll the tape and get it over with.

The tape cuts in as Jacques Rougeau, Jr., one half of the former Canadian International Tag Team champions stumbles to his feet after regaining his consciousness backstage. He is favoring his left leg as he limps a few steps towards his concerned father, who is asking frantically, “What happened?” Jacques, Jr. doesn’t know and the two agree that it is Eddie Creatchman behind the deed. The camera cuts back to Jacques, Sr. The crowd is booing very loudly in the background as Jacques, Sr. continues.

Jacques, Sr.: After a trip to the hospital, it was shown on X-ray that my son Jacques has an injury to his left hamstring that will keep him out for several months. I cannot believe Eddie Creatchman has the gall to even show his face after this.

We cut from Jacques, Sr. to Eddie Creatchman in the ring, shouting something down at Jacques, Sr. at the announce table. The crowd is booing Creatchman very loudly, some throwing trash into the ring. Jacques, Sr. hands a microphone to the man sitting next to him, who then brings the microphone to the ring and hands it to Creatchman.

Creatchman: It looks like my old friend Jacques Rougeau, Sr. isn’t talking to me again. Some professional announcer he is. Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, I have some very good news.

The crowd boos.

Creatchman: Oh, you don’t like what I had my guys do to Armand Rougeau? Well guess what? This is professional wrestling and you attack a weakness. Don’t even get me started on Raymond. Neither myself or the Midnight Express had anything to do with that, regardless of what that man over there (pointing at Jacques, Sr.) might tell you.

More boos, but not as many as some of the crowd seems confused.

Creatchman: That’s right. All of you jumped to the same conclusion as our completely unbiased announcer did. You all make me sick, just a bunch of sheep!

The boos get louder again.

Creatchman: I almost don’t want to do this because you don’t deserve it. But I’m going to anyway because the two men I am about to introduce deserve it. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome your new Canadian International Tag Team Champions, the Midnight Express!

Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose emerge from the curtain to deafening boos, displaying their newly won titles around their waists. Condrey and Rose shake hands with Creatchman when they reach the ring despite more garbage being thrown their direction.

Creatchman: I told everyone who would listen that these men would be the champions. I told all of you and all of the Rougeaus! And now here they are, the Midnight Express, wearing the very belts I promised they would! And as much as you don’t like it, there’s nothing your precious Rougeaus can do about it.

The crowd again breaks into loud boos.

Creatchman: Oh, I know I said we didn’t have anything to do with Raymond and I meant it. But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it. If something I did started open season on Rougeaus that won’t hurt my feelings at all. Fair warning to my friend at the announce table and his other son, it certainly does seem to be open season on Rougeaus.

More deafening boos.

Creatchman: I’ve had about as much of these people as I’m going to take.

Condrey and Rose interrupt Creatchman and the three confer for a moment.

Creatchman: There is something that Randy, Dennis and I have talked about in the last few days that I should share with you. We all feel that you do no appreciate the Midnight Express for the truly great tag team they are. They are now your champions and as such should not be wrestling on free TV. Were you more deserving of their time and efforts, things might be different. It’s only fitting that the greatest tag champions the IWA has ever seen should not be treated as common wrestlers. If you want to see the Midnight Express wrestle from now on, you’ll have to pay to come to the shows.

Creatchman tosses the microphone at the announcer’s table as the Midnight Express leave the ring. Creatchman follows, jawing with the fans in the front row as the Midnights casually ignore them. The crowd is seemingly out of garbage to throw, given how early it is in the show and how agitated the fans seem to be.

Commercial Break

3:30 - 22:45

The camera is on the ring as we return from commercial. Goldie Rogers is in the ring with Jacques, Sr., pacing restlessly.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Rogers, it seems like you have something on your mind.

Rogers: You’re damn right I do, Jack!

Jacques, Sr. starts pulling the microphone back to protest, but Rogers catches his arm.

Rogers: You know better than that. I don’t care what your name is. I call everyone Jack. So why don’t you take your righteous indignation somewhere people give a damn.

The crowd boos and Jacques, Sr. looks pointedly at Rogers.

Rogers: Give me a break. These clowns out here don’t matter. You see, this face, this body, this gorgeous hair...these are all things that people should appreciate. But these fans cheer whenever anyone decides they have the right to punch me right in the face. The only people who have any right to even touch my face are ladies like this fine specimen down here in the front row!

Rogers walks to the ropes and grinds his hips at a woman in the front row who is obviously with a man. A large, burly man in a flannel shirt who looks none too happy.

Jacques, Sr.: Your mood seems to have gotten better.

Rogers: No way, Jack! I’m getting sick of Tony Parisi sticking his nose in my business. I want Kochen, but Parisi and this Ricco kid seem to think Kochen can’t handle himself. I won’t argue with that one bit, I’m too much for this Kochen kid. This is going out to you Parisi, so listen up, Jack! If you keep sticking your nose into my business it’s gonna get cut off!

Rogers stalks over to his corner and awaits Parisi. Jacques, Sr. gives a resigned shake of his head as he leaves the ring. Tony Parisi comes out to a good amount of cheers, slapping hands with the fans on his way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. puts over Parisi as a very capable wrestler and an upstanding human being, but worries that he may not be taking Rogers seriously enough.

Tony Parisi vs. Goldie Rogers

Parisi and Rogers lock up, Rogers backing Parisi into the corner and hitting several elbows off the break. Parisi fires back with right hands than sends Rogers momentarily staggering back to the corner, but the blond Canadian surges back, throwing big right hands that stun Parisi. Parisi is the victim of a beating, heavily focused on his neck, by Rogers. Parisi comes back with punches and a boot to the midsection, followed by a dropkick. Parisi focuses his attack on Rogers’ ribs, giving him a good working over. Rogers fires back with right hands, but this time Parisi gets the better of the exchange and Rogers hides in the corner. Steve Regal runs down to ringside, distracting both referee Pierre Bertrand and Parisi. Rogers hits the Italian/Canadian wrestler with a low blow from behind and scoops him up, dropping him throat-first over the top rope. Rogers stomps away at Parisi, then pulls him up and hits a neckbreaker to get the three.

Goldie Rogers wins by pinfall after a neckbreaker 9:42

Post-match it looks like Regal and Rogers are going to do a number on Parisi, much to the dismay of Jacques, Sr. Gino Brito comes running out and asks for the mic from Jacques, Sr., who hands it over.

Brito: Two on one seems a little unfair. How about I take on your friend, Rogers?

Regal looks at Rogers, who nods. Regal gives Brito the “come on” gesture.

Brito: That’s good. But first, let’s make sure Tony gets to the back safe and sound. After you clear out, Rogers. We’re going to do this the right way.

Rogers throws a fit as he is escorted to the back by security and a few of the younger wrestlers. Tony Parisi is able to make it to the back under his own power as the crowd applauds and cheers. Brito steps into the ring with Steve Regal and Jacques, Sr. is glad that his longtime friend Gino Brito was here to help maintain order.

Gino Brito vs. Steve Regal

Brito is clearly angry with Regal for assisting in his partner’s loss and takes it out on him, much to the delight of the crowd. Regal makes a short comeback after going to the eyes, but Brito only gets more angry and starts going after Regal’s left leg. Regal tries fighting off Brito, but the veteran will not be denied and locks in a figure four in the center of the ring. Regal is screaming in pain and gives up, Brito leaving the hold on a moment or two longer than he has to.

Gino Brito by submission with the figure four 5:46

Brito celebrates in the ring while Regal slowly makes his way to the back. Jacques, Sr. puts Brito over as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

22:45 - 35:45

We return from commercial to Rene Goulet in the ring with Jacques, Sr. Both men look very grim.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Goulet, you had a tough night last Saturday.

Goulet: I did, but your son Armand had a tougher night. I tried telling him it was too early to come back. I warned him that snake Creatchman might have something planned. I should have called off the match.

Jacques, Sr.: I doubt he would have accepted that, Rene. You and I both know he’s a very passionate young man and he might have gone out and wrestled by himself had you done that.

Goulet: That’s probably true. The good news is that Armand is okay. The doctors just didn’t want to move his neck after the match as a precauton and he has been banned from the arena tonight for his own good. He did not seriously re-injure his neck.

Jacques, Sr.: No, he did not. I have to believe that was Eddie Creatchman’s intention though. I still worry that Armand’s neck isn’t quite 100% though.

Goulet: He has another week to heal. That doesn’t mean Kamiguchi gets off scot free. Tonight I will punish Hurricane Kamiguchi for what happened to Armand Rougeau!

The crowd cheers, but that turns to boos very quickly as Eddie Creatchman leads the way to the ring, far in front of Haruki, Hurricane Kamiguchi and Stonehead Ishimoto. Fans throw some garbage at Kamiguchi and Ishimoto now as well as Creatchman. Jacques, Sr., now back at the announce table, runs down the list of recent Creatchman offenses. Referee Andre Roy sends Ishimoto to the back before he rings the bell.

Rene Goulet vs. Hurricane Kamiguchi

Goulet is fired up from the start, hammering Kamiguchi with rights. The Japanese wrestler fires back with elbows, but Goulet is in no mood to back down. Creatchman yells at Goulet from ringside, distracting the Frenchman long enough for Kamiguchi to hit a dropkick to his back. Kamiguchi works a headlock on Goulet for a while, Goulet trying many different escapes. The veteran Japanese wrestler uses the hair several times to keep control. Head referee Adrian Desbois forces him to break the hold after seeing the hair being pulled. Kamiguchi uses boots to the midsection and backhand chops to set Goulet up for another headlock. Finally Kamiguchi tries for a neckbreaker only for the French veteran to catch him in a backslide for two. Several backhand chops from Kamiguchi stun Goulet, but the Frenchman moves as Kamiguchi tries another dropkick and starts working on Hurricane. Creatchman trips up Goulet as he runs the ropes and Kamiguchi drops a leg across the back of Goulet’s neck. Kamiguchi looks to be setting up for a blockbuster, the same move that caused the panic with Armand Rougeau, but Goulet fights the move off and tries to climb up for a superplex. Kamiguchi shoves Goulet off the turnbuckles, leaping over the Frenchman as he stumbles to his feet into a sunset flip for the three.

Hurricane Kamiguchi by pinfall with a second rope sunset flip 10:49

Stonehead Ishimoto comes charging out of the back and attacks Goulet after the match along with Kamiguchi. Haruki at ringside looks unhappy with the assault, but Creatchman is enjoying it. Jacques, Sr. can only express his disgust with Creatchman and his charges. The two Japanese wrestlers stop beating up a battered Goulet as Creatchman stops them, mic in hand.

Creatchman: So now the fans see the truth. The Midnight Express are the new Canadian International Tag Team Champions! Earth and Sky have shown more than once that Armand Rougeau and Rene Goulet are weak and ineffective as a team. And do you know why? Because these men work as a team. I won’t deny that Armand Rougeau is an athletic young man and Rene Goulet is a wily old veteran. But Rougeau is too wrapped up in trying to be like his brothers. And Goulet can’t do it on his own because he’s a broken down old man.

Creatchman stomps on Goulet several times.

Creatchman: Just face it, your heroes are nothing but pretenders. Earth and Sky! The Midnight Express! These are the true heroes of the International Wrestling Association!

Jacques, Sr. is livid in his criticisms of Creatchman, his voice raising to shouting levels as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

35:45 - 52:15

The camera is on the ring as we come back from commercial. Quebec Television Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors proudly wear their newly won titles on the way to the ring with Albano making sure no one can miss the belts. Albano has a bandage on his head where it hit the guard rail on October 1st. The crowd is booing the two big Tongans and Albano all the way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. is not a fan of the Tongan Terrors, but gives them a grudging respect for putting away the Can Am Express, even if Albano played a small but crucial role in the match. He apologises for his unprofessional behavior before the break. The Invaders come out to a big pop, playing to the crowd all the way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. puts the Invaders over as threats to the monsters from the island of Tonga.

The Invaders vs. Quebec TV Champions The Tongan Terrors in a title match (15 minute time limit)

Invader 3 starts out hot, using his speed and athleticism to great effect, but Tonga John doesn’t leave his feet until he is hit with a big running dropkick. Invader 1 is in and he uses stick and move tactics to frustrate the big Tongan. King Tonga is tagged in and he fares better against Invader 1, but cannot keep the agile Puerto Rican down long enough to work any kind of double teams with Tonga John. Invader 3 makes a blind tag and comes in with a dropkick to King Tonga’s back that is followed by an Invader 1 dropkick to the jaw and chest that knocks King Tonga down. Tonga John hits the ring and clubs Invader 3 over the back until referee Pierre Bertrand ushers him back to the ring apron. This allows the Tongan Terrors to double team Invader 3 and really work him over. Invader 3 tries to get over to his partner to make the tag but is continually cut off by the two big Tongans, much to the delight of Albano. When Invader 1 finally takes the tag the crowd erupts as Invader 1 goes right at both Tongan wrestlers. Gilles Poisson runs down to ringside and Albano gets up on the apron, causing Bertrand to stop worrying about getting Tonga John out of the ring and completely miss Poisson pulling a still-recovering Invader 3 off of the ring apron and grabbing a bearhug before falling forward and slamming him down on the floor. King Tonga hits a savate kick from the side of Invader 1 as the Puerto Rican is attacking Tonga John. Tonga John climbs back to the apron and takes the tag, going up top for the flying headbutt and covering for three.

Tonga John over Invader 1 by pinfall after a savate kick/flying headbutt combination 13:22

Poisson looks to continue the assault on Invader 3 when Brito & Parisi emerge from the back to run him off. Jacques, Sr. is disgusted by Poisson’s continued use of dirty tactics to strike at the Invaders. The Tongan Terrors celebrate their first successful defense in the ring with Albano before Albano points at the section of the crowd right behind where he had been standing at ringside. King Tonga grabs a chair from under a fan and swings it hard at the guard rail, sending fans anywhere near that section of guard rail scrambling. The King goes right over the guard rail, waving the chair around as security and half the locker room empty to keep the big Tongan from assaulting the crowd. Albano laughs and calls off King Tonga, taunting the would-be rescuers as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

52:15 - 65:45

We return from Commercial to Jacques, Sr. looking very serious at the announce table.

Jacques, Sr.: Fans, tonight we are going to show you the main event from six nights ago in the Montreal Forum. I will warn you ahead of time that it is violent and bloody, and not at all for the faint of heart. I have to note that I am doing this against my better judgement because Frank Valois and several others have decided that we will be showing this match to you tonight. If it were my choice it would never be shown on television.

The tape rolls and all 11:19 of the match is shown, cutting to both men stretchered out post-match. Jacques, Sr. is back on camera as the tape ends, looking very grim.

Jacques, Sr.: Mad Dog Lefebvre was released from the hospital on Tuesday, but it was the judgement of many IWA officials that the man had lost too much blood and sustained such a terrible beating that he should not compete tonight. This is absolutely something I agree with and I am against any more dog collar matches being put on by the IWA. They are incredibly dangerous for both combatants as you could clearly see. Mad Dog Vachon came out on top, but I’m not sure he even knew where he was when he won the match. It became a battle for survival rather than a wrestling match near the end when both men started to feel their exhaustion. I won’t take anything away from either competitor for their efforts, but I want to express again how dangerous that match truly was for both. We thank you for joining us this Friday evening for International Wrestling and hope you’ll tune in next Friday when Dino Bravo will be in the building!

Jacques being injured is quite a surprise. I guess The Midnights won't hurt for new challengers though with all the tag teams waiting in the wings that could come into Montreal. Good stuff from Goldie Rogers although the finish seemed a bit over done with a low blow, a throat first drop across the ropes and a neckbreaker. I like Goldie here but someone described Goldie to me as a "lazy Rip Rogers" and knowing how boring Steve Regal is I'm not sure I'd actually want to see a match with them teaming together.

Good TV Tag Title match between The Tongan Terrors and The Invaders. That IS a match I would actually want to see. Pretty bold choice to show the main event of your big show on TV like that. Lefebvre got put over so hard I'm almost wondering if you're setting up a face turn.

Regal is there to take pins for Rogers. No other reason. I also wanted to highlight Rogers vicious side once he's pissed at somebody. He's arrogant and protective of his face, but if you piss him off he'll go way, way over the top to make his point. You are correct in there being plans for Lefebvre, but that's all I'm giving right now.

International Wrestling, October 14th, 1983 (Taped October 12th, 1983, Colisée de Trois-Rivieres, Trois-Rivieres, QC) 3,500 fans, sellout

Opening Match

0 - 6:00

The opening montage cuts to Jacques, Sr. at the announce table. He begins talking about the increased need for security, both for the fans and several IWA personalities, as the camera sweeps over the entrance area revealing three times the normal police presence as well as the normal security staff. There are security personnel at the corners of the guard rail around ringside as well as the camera cuts to the Gerrard Brothers in the ring awaiting their opponents. The Can Am express come out to a good amount of cheers, looking very focused.

The Can Am Express vs. the Gerrard Brothers

The Can Ams are more aggressive than ever, running Bobby Gerrard over from bell to bell to the point where he is unable to tag. Brunzell hits a dropkick and covers for the three.

Jim Brunzell over Bobby Gerrard with a dropkick 4:32

The camera cuts to Jacques, Sr., who is very impressed with the way Brunzell and Lafon have bounced back from their loss on October 1st.

Commercial Break

6:00 - 16:00

Jacques, Sr. is in the ring with none other than Dino Bravo when we return from commercial. The fans are going nuts for the longtime Quebec hero and Canadian strongman, who seems happy to be back.

Jacques, Sr.: It’s good to see you back, Dino. I can see and hear that these great fans in Trois-Rivieres agree.

The crowd pops big.

Bravo: I’m glad to see you and each and every one of them, Jacques, Sr. But I’ve heard the news about your boys and that’s why I’m here.

Jacques, Sr.: Yes, Eddie Creatchman has found himself quite the crew this time.

Bravo: I’ve heard of the Midnight Express, but I’m not that impressed. I’ve already talked to Gino Brito and Tony Parisi. (The crowd pops.) They have agreed to team up with me to take on Creatchman’s boys. Tonight we’re going to start cleaning this place up!

Jacques, Sr.: There you have it, fans! Dino Bravo has returned to the IWA to take on the Midnight Express! I would like to welcome several more guests now, my son Armand Rougeau and his tag team partner Rene Goulet!

Armand and Goulet emerge from the curtain to cheers and play to the crowd on their way to the ring. Both shake hands with Bravo before walking over to Jacques, Sr.

Jacques, Sr.: Armand, I can only hope that you know what you are doing tonight, facing the man who tried to injure your neck on October 1st in the ring again.

Armand: My neck is at 95% the doctors tell me. That’s enough for me, even if Creatchman has his new attack dogs trained on it.

Jacques, Sr.: Eddie Creatchman is not a man to be underestimated. I’d much rather see you in a match with Dino Bravo and Gino Brito to watch your back.

Armand: I want to pay the Midnight Express back as much as anyone. They put me out for a few weeks just to get a title shot. Hurricane Kamiguchi tried to take that same injury and end my career with it! I don’t care if Creatchman ordered it, the man tried to hurt me and hurt me badly. I won’t let that stand.

Jacques, Sr.: I can’t disagree with you on that, Armand. I just want to know that you won’t be the victim of any of Eddie Creatchman’s “strategy”.

Armand: I have Rene Goulet watching my back. You won’t have to worry.

Goulet: You have nothing to worry about, Jacques. Your son is more than capable of dealing with either Kamiguchi or Ishimoto. And I won’t be far off.

Jacques, Sr. nods in Goulet’s direction thankfully as the Goulet and Bravo start heading for the back. Jacques, Sr. returns to the announce table and recaps the Midnight Express’ attack on Armand, followed by the use of Kamiguchi’s blockbuster finisher on Armand’s injured neck. Hurricane Kamiguchi makes his way to the ring with Eddie Creatchman in tow, no Haruki, as the fans throw garbage at them and boo. Jacques, Sr. echoes his son’s sentiment that Kamiguchi should know better than to attack a man’s injured neck with a move like that.

Armand Rougeau vs. Hurricane Kamiguchi

Armand is on Kamiguchi the instant the Japanese wrestler hits the ring. Kamiguchi responds to Armand’s right hands with chops, but ends up on the losing end. A few elbow shots slow Armand down, but the young Rougeau’s rage is not spent. He comes in with more right hands, putting the masked Japanese man on the mat. Rougeau climbs up to the top and hits a flying fist drop, continuing to pound away on Kamiguchi. Creatchman jumps up on the ring apron to distract Armand, giving Kamiguchi the opening to hit a dropkick to the young Rougeau’s back. Kamiguchi again goes to work on the neck, tossing Armand out of the ring and trying to ram his head into the turnbuckle. Rougeau puts his boot up in time and lands a back elbow as Creatchman motions to the back and Stonehead Ishimoto comes running out. Kamiguchi’s head is bounced off of the ring post by Armand. Rene Goulet is half the distance to the ring behind, but Ishimoto’s mask was preloaded and he KO’s Armand with a headbutt after a few forearms to the back of the neck. Referee Pierre Bertrand calls for the bell as Goulet clubs Ishimoto from behind and runs his head (loaded mask and all) into the ring post.

Armand Rougeau wins by disqualification due to outside interference 6:27

Goulet attacks Kamiguchi, locking in the scorpion claw hold after seeing that Ishimoto is out. Creatchman threatens to attack, but Goulet menaces him and he steps back. Goulet revives Armand, blood coming out of his forehead, and helps him to the back as Creatchman sees to his team. Jacques, Sr. has been calling the chaos to this point and is relieved that Rene Goulet was watching his son’s back, even if things got a little out of hand.

Commercial Break

16:00 - 27:00

We return from commercial to a shot of the ring as Jacques, Sr. recaps the show so far, reminding the fans of the big main event featuring Dino Bravo. Dave Kochen and Tony Ricco emerge from the curtain to some cheers and slap a few hands on the way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. talks about the ongoing issue between Kochen and Goldie Rogers. Goldie Rogers and Steve Regal enter the arena floor to boos. Rogers grinds his hips at several women in the front row on his way to the ring, blowing a kiss to the last. Jacques, Sr. is still disgusted with Rogers after the way he beat Tony Parisi last week.

Dave Kochen & Tony Ricco vs. Goldie Rogers & Steve Regal

Kochen and Rogers go right at one another to start the match. Rogers backs off after a few big right hands from Kochen and seeks the shelter of his team’s corner. Rogers stalls before using the distraction of referee Andre Roy to create an opening and decking Kochen. Kochen fires back after a few right hands from Rogers, but the arrogant Rogers refuses to back down, chasing Kochen back into the corner Ricco is standing in. Ricco and Kochen work on Rogers for a short time before Rogers goes to the eyes on Kochen and lays in a series of stomps to the face of Kochen before using every bit of rope between himself and Regal to rub into Kochen’s face and eyes. Regal tags in and the heels work Kochen over, cutting off several attempts by Kochen to tag in Ricco. Kochen is finally able to hit a crossbody after being sent off the ropes and make the tag while Regal is grabbing his leg. Rogers drops off the apron as Ricco dispatches Regal and charges him. Ricco takes out his frustrations on the unfortunate Regal in the ring, but lets his anger get the better of him and gets attacked from behind by Rogers. Ricco has no choice but to tag Kochen back in after a flurry of right hands and a sledgehammer blow off the second turnbuckle from Rogers, who refuses to stay on the apron after returning at Roy’s four count. Kochen tries to take advantage of the weakened Regal, but Rogers continues to interject himself. Rogers tags in and ends up going down in a heap after a few big right hands from Kochen. Kochen is grabbed from behind and pulled down by Regal as Roy is distracted by Ricco trying to enter the ring and help his partner. Regal chokes Rogers from the apron, allowing Rogers time to recover. Rogers points Roy at Ricco, who is again entering the ring, only to follow referee Roy in and knock Ricco off the apron. Roy notices Regal choking Kochen and begins counting to five, forcing Regal to give up the choke. Regal climbs back up on the apron as Rogers sets Kochen throat-first over the top rope. Regal grabs the back of Kochen’s neck and drops to the arena floor, bouncing Kochen directly into a neckbreaker by Rogers that gets the three count.

Goldie Rogers over Dave Kochen by pinfall after a hotshot/neckbreaker combination 8:48

Jacques, Sr. is incensed at the tactics Rogers and Regal will resort to in order to win a match. He knows that Kochen is fighting an uphill battle and praises the young man for not giving up.

Commercial Break

27:00 - 45:30

Lou Albano and Quebec Television Tag team Champions the Tongan Terrors are in the ring with Jacques, Sr. as we return from commercial, the fans booing loudly and throwing some garbage into the ring. The two Tongans are proudly displaying their titles, holding them up and glaring at the crowd.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Albano, it seems that you and your team have gotten the belts you wanted so badly.

Albano: You and I both knew we would, old buddy! You know what the best part is?

Jacques, Sr.: Enlighten me.

Albano: I do like talking to you, Jacques, Sr. It’s rare to find a person of any intelligence at all in these arenas. The best part is that even after what I had King Tonga do last week, we are still here! You see, my monsters have to defend these tag belts every week on TV. That means that no matter what they do to anyone, Frank Valois cannot make the decision to ban us from television. The possibilities are endless! I could have my monsters tear you apart Rougeau! (Laughs and slaps Jacques, Sr. on the shoulder.) I kid, Jacques! I would never do that to you.

Jacques, Sr.: The IWA could always strip your team of the titles.

Albano: Jacques, Jacques, you and I both know how very badly that would go for the other wrestlers in the building. Not to mention the embarrassment and financial hit Frank Valois would take after my lawyers were done with him. No, I think we all know that’s a bad idea. But tonight is not a night to worry about things like that!

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Albano, it seems you are in a very good mood tonight.

Albano: Mostly, Mr. Rougeau, but there’s one thing that has been bothering me since October 1st. That punk kid Lafon fell on me on purpose! I had to wear a bandage for a week and a half to keep it from bleeding! Look, can you see the cut that’s still there?

Albano pulls his hair aside to show Jacques, Sr. his injury.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Albano, it seems to me the only reason Phil Lafon fell on you is because you were clamped on to his leg while he took a headbutt from your man King Tonga.

Albano: I’m sure Lafon wants everyone to see it that way, but I’m not buying it. That kid has been threatening me for over a month and you’ve been witness to every one of his threats. Tell me I’m wrong!

Jacques, Sr.: He certainly is a very passionate young man, but I still have no reason to believe what happened was on purpose. It may very well have cost them a chance at winning the match.

Albano: You believe what you want to, Rougeau. As for me, Lafon moved right up next to his buddy Brunzell on my list. Mark my words, Rougeau, the next time we see those clowns they will PAY!

Jacques, Sr. heads back to the announce table as Albano talks to his charges in their corner. Mad Dog Lefebvre, getting a few cheers along with the boos, and Gilles Poisson head to the ring. Jacques, Sr. puts over Lefebvre as a very tough competitor, citing his brutal match with Mad Dog Vachon two weeks ago. He continues, saying that Lefebvre and Poisson will face another tough test in the TV champs, the Tongan Terrors. Jacques, Sr. points out that Lefebvre and Poisson are both regular partners of the Tongan Terrors and these teams should know each other very well. Jacques, Sr. hopes the security around ringside is ready for anything given Albano’s mood.

Quebec Television Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson in a title match (15 minute time limit)

Lefebvre and Tonga John start the match brawling, Lefebvre resorting to biting John’s forehead when nothing else seems to faze the big Tongan. The match goes back and forth, Lefebvre using his ferocity and Poisson his power to counter the brutality of the Tongan Terrors. Neither team gains any kind of decisive advantage for long. At the thirteen minute mark King Tonga headbutts Lefebvre, who is more than a little dazed but fires a headbutt back at King Tonga who fails to notice. Lefebvre is even more dazed and crumples to the mat after a second King Tonga headbutt. The Mad Dog starts biting King Tonga’s forehead as he is dragged to his feet and keeps biting as the King uses stiff open hand strikes to the ribs and finally chops at his neck to break the bite. King Tonga misses a HUGE jumping elbow drop after gaining momentum and both wrestlers tag out. The 12:30 mark sees both the King and the Mad Dog in the ring as legal men with Lefebvre down on the mat. He catches a savate kick from King Tonga after Tonga John is tagged in, but the King jumps up into a kick to the back of Lefebvre’s head that sends him back to the mat. Tonga John hops down off the top only to take a big clothesline from the 280 lb. Poisson. Lefebvre tags in Poisson when the chaos dies down, but Tonga John comes back with punches, chops and a standing big boot after whipping Poisson to the ropes. King Tonga is tagged in and uses his martial arts to stagger the big man before tagging John and hitting the savate kick. Tonga John flies off the top with a big headbutt for the three.

Tonga John over Gilles Poisson py pinfall after a savate kick/flying headbutt combination 14:42

Lefebvre is visibly upset with Poisson, pointing to his wrist several times to indicate the amount of time left in the match when he got pinned. Poisson argues with Lefebvre before the two angrily walk to the back not talking. Albano and the Terrors take time to celebrate retaining their belts before starting for the back. One of the security personnel at ringside becomes a target of Albano as the three pass, Albano pointing to the man and the two Tongans immediately attacking. There are enough security and police personnel nearby to break the fight up quickly, but the unfortunate victim has to be hauled to the back by several men in security uniforms, well behind the Terrors and Albano. Jacques, Sr. wonders what the poor man said to set off Albano as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

45:30 - 63:00

After commercial we come back to a shot of the ring with Dino Bravo, Gino Brito and Tony Parisi walking to the ring to thunderous cheers. Jacques, Sr. puts over this team as the team that can avenge his son against the Midnight Express. Creatchman, Stonehead Ishimoto (seemingly recovered from his meeting with the post earlier) and the Midnight Express come out to boos just as loud as the cheers had been. The Midnight Express are wearing their newly won titles. Creatchman and the Midnights are complaining about having to wrestle on TV. Garbage litters the entrance aisle as the four make their way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. makes the observation that the Midnight Express look very serious and focused despite their complaints. He hopes that Bravo, Brito and Parisi are ready for a fight.

Dino Bravo, Gino Brito & Tony Parisi vs. Canadian International Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express & Stonehead Ishimoto

Bravo starts the match for his team, barreling in on Condrey and the brawl is on. Creatchman’s squad looks for ways to isolate a member of the opposing team, but has no luck until they catch Parisi way too close to their corner. Parisi takes a brutal beating from all three heels, at one point trying to crawl between Rose’s legs only to get stomped right back to the mat as Rose turns around quickly. Condrey takes the tag and continues working on Parisi until he gets staggered by a series of desperate right hands. Parisi falls down from effort and crawls towards his corner only to get caught by the boot inches away and yanked back to the center of the ring where Condrey puts on a crab that is quickly broken up by both Brito and Bravo. Head referee Adrian Desbois clears a six man brawl before it gets too chaotic, leaving Condrey in the ring to hit a devastating backbreaker and follow it up with an airplane spin after looking pointedly at Bravo. All six men are in the ring again, but Desbois is again quick to restore order. Condrey tags to Ishimoto, who tries a falling headbutt with the mask loaded up only to miss Parisi as he rolls away. Parisi barely makes the tag to Bravo before he is hammered from behind by Condrey. The crowd explodes as Bravo mows down all opposition, sending the Midnight Express outside the ring. Ishimoto is out on his feet after the missed headbutt and falls over before Brito comes charging over to start brawling on the floor with both members of the Midnight Express. Bravo slides out of the ring to join the fracas and Desbois reaches a ten count, calling for the bell as both teams have been counted out.

The teams go to a double count-out 10:54

The brawl continues post-match as both Ishimoto and Parisi slowly recover. Creatchman motions to the back and Hurricane Kamiguchi comes running out to tilt the odds in favor of the Midnight Express. Bravo and Brito are losing the battle when Armand Rougeau and Rene Goulet charge out from the back to tilt the odds in favor of the faces. Parisi joins the brawl from the ring, hitting a downed Ishimoto, just slammed to the floor by Goulet, with a flying senton off the apron. Goulet and Armand double team Kamiguchi with punches before Goulet whips Rougeau into a running dropkick that sends Kamiguchi into the guard rail to crumble into a heap. Condrey and Rose, just barely holding heir own against Brito and Bravo, see the odds turn against them and start retreating. Creatchman tosses Condrey a chair from safely behind them and Rose starts swinging the chair in the direction of the faces. All five wisely retreat back a few steps, allowing Rose to collect Kamiguchi, who helps him get Ishimoto to his feet. The faces hold the ring, playing to the crowd and beckoning Creatchman’s group to get back in the ring. Creatchman leads his teams to the back, stopping to hurl verbal jabs back at the men in the ring and fans in the front row. Jacques, Sr. has been excitedly calling the action all along and tells the fans to be sure to tune in next week when the Invaders take on Lefebvre and Poisson in the main event!

Dino Bravo getting involved with The Midnight Express seems like a good way to make up for the loss of The Rougeaus. Armand continues to be a whipping boy even if Rene Goulet bailed him out of taking even more of a beating. Interested to see what ends up happening between Lefebvre and Poisson.

Definitely feels like a bit of a transition period for Montreal right now after the big October 1st show.

International Wrestling, October 21st, 1983 (Taped October 19th, 1983, Colisée de Rimouski, Rimouski, QC) 4,700 fans

Opening matches

0:00 - 11:30

The opening montage leads to a shot of the ring with the Marcus Brothers awaiting their opponents. Jacques, Sr. welcomes the fans to another exciting week of IWA action as the Can Am Express come out to the ring. The fans cheer them, but Lafon and Brunzell are looking very serious tonight. Jacques, Sr. wonders if the Can Am Express isn’t a little upset over losing their match for the Quebec Television Tag Team Championships.

The Can Am Express vs. The Marcus Brothers

The Can Ams make short work of the Marcus Brothers, cutting any comebacks short quickly. Brunzell tags in Lafon and hits a big dropkick on Bob Marcus, Lafon putting Marcus into the cobra clutch for the victory.

Phil Lafon over Bob Marcus by submission with a cobra clutch following a Brunzell dropkick 4:27

Jacques, Sr. is very impressed with how quickly and smoothly Lafon and Brunzell dispatched the Marcus Brothers. We cut to Jacques, Sr. as he talks about the rest of the matches on the card. The camera cuts back to the ring where Tim Gerrard is already waiting. Randy Rose enters the arena floor with Eddie Creatchman and Jacques, Sr. is immediately unhappy to see the “lower than low” Creatchman. Rose is wearing his tag championship belt while Creatchman points to it and taunts the fans. Creatchman and Rose are in no hurry to get to the ring. Jacques, Sr. Reminds the fans that Dino Bravo was in the building last week and helped the IWA wrestlers drive off all four of Creatchman’s crew.

Randy Rose vs. Tim Gerrard

Rose comes out of the gate hot, but Gerrard manages a short comeback capped off by a crossbody before Rose hits a back kick to the gut and follows with a big side slam. A powerslam from the second rope by Rose puts Gerrard away.

Randy Rose by pinfall with a second rope powerslam 4:52

Jacques, Sr. has to admit that was a very impressive win for Rose. Creatchman comes over and has a quick shouting match with Jacques, Sr. about his man wrestling on TV before he and Rose head to the back. Jacques, Sr. apologizes to the fans as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

11:30 - 24:30

The camera cuts to the ring as we return from commercial, Goldie Rogers, Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland, Dan Johnson and Steve Regal making their way to the ring. The crowd is booing the foursome, Charland takes time out to show off his belt to a few fans while Rogers finds several women to in the front row to harass. Jacques, Sr. is incensed at both Rogers and Charland, both for their behavior tonight and in recent weeks. Tony Parisi, Louis Laurence, Dave Kochen & Tony Ricco step out of the curtain to cheers. Laurence is put over by Jacques, Sr. for dominating his matchup with Charland on October 1st, but falling victim to an attack with the belt that caused a disqualification. Jacques, Sr. Also talks about the differences between Rogers and Kochen of late. Rogers leads the charge as the heels jump the four faces at ringside.

Tony Parisi, Dave Kochen, Louis Laurence & Tony Ricco vs. Goldie Rogers, Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland, Dan Johnson & Steve Regal

Referee Pierre Bertrand tries to restore order and finally gets it back to Kochen and Johnson in the ring. Rogers cheapshots Kochen from the apron as Johnson backs Kochen into the wrong corner while held in a front facelock. Rogers tags himself in and the heels end up working over Kochen for a short while. Bertrand misses a tag to Laurence (while Charland is in no less!) when Rogers distracts him. Charland tags out almost immediately and Johnson gets kicked when he telegraphs a back body drop. Charland runs into the ring to stop the tag and knock Laurence off the apron. Regal runs right into a Kochen dropkick off the ropes and Kochen finally tags in Parisi. Parisi is a house afire and takes out the entire opposing team aside from Charland. Charland was dragegd from the apron just before the tag by an angry Laurence, who laid into him with right hands and elbows on the floor for some time. Finally Laurence had enough of beating up on Charland and came back to the apron in time to get tagged in and found a very vulnerable Steve Regal in the ring. The numbers advantage by the faces made holding Johnson and Rogers off while Laurence put Regal into a half crab for the victory easy.

Louis Laurence over Steve Regal by submission with a half crab 10:43

Jacques, Sr. is impressed with the fire of Louis Laurence and the teamwork of the four victors. He knows that Rogers, Charland and company are not finished yet, though. Jacques, Sr. knows that Louis Laurence will make the third time a charm in going for the Quebec Heavyweight Championship.

Commercial Break

24:30 - 41:30

We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring. The Dungeon masters, Jim Neidhart and Mr. Hito, come out to a decent pop. Jacques, Sr. puts Neidhart over as a powerhouse and highlights Mr. Hito’s experience. The Quebec Television TV Champions The Tongan Terrors and their manager Lou Albano stalk to the ring to very loud boos. Albano makes sure to point out the belts to as many fans as he can without slowing his menacing Tongan wrestlers down. Jacques, Sr. puts the Terrors over as monsters, saying Albano may not be honest all the time, but his two Tongans have proven themselves time and again.

The Dungeon Masters vs. Quebec Heavyweight Television Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors in a title match (15 Minute Time Limit)

Neidhart starts the match for his team and goes toe to toe with both Tongans, holding his own but tiring. After he has to tag out the Terrors destroy Hito. Neidhart saves his partner several times before finally hitting a big clothesline on Tonga John and knocking King Tonga from the ring with a series of right hands. Neidhart drags his partner back to the corner and tags himself in, again going back and forth with the Tongans before he is again forced to tag. The Tongan Terrors again start working over Hito, but this time they refuse to let up when both are in the ring against the Japanese wrestler. Head referee Adrian Desbois counts to five once and starts again, disqualifying the champions as he reaches five a second time.

The Dungeon Masters win by disqualification 14:06

Neidhart charges like a bull after hitting the ring, again driving both Tongans from the ring quickly. He keeps a wary eye on the two monsters while tending to his partner. Jim Brunzell and Phil Lafon emerge from the crowd to attack the Tongans from behind, Albano running impossibly fast to put King Tonga between himself and Lafon. Lafon gets caught with a throat thrust as he tries chasing Albano and the brawl is on between the Terrors and the Can Am Express! Jacques, Sr. tells the fans that we have to go to commercial and hope to have this cleaned up by the time we return from break.

Commercial Break

41:30 - 48:00

Eddie Creatchman and Earth & Sky are in the ring when we return from commercial, Jacques, Sr. nowhere to be found. Creatchman picks up the microphone that’s in the ring and shrugs.

Creatchman: Our Most Professional Announcer Jacques Rougeau, Sr. has once again refused to interview me. I’m hardly surprised. Given what Stonehead Ishimoto is going to do to his son tonight, I doubt he’d have much good to say anyway. You see, tonight Armand Rougeau is wrestling an experienced veteran. A man who has wrestled in more places than just Quebec. And this man knows his weaknesses because I know his weaknesses. So be prepared to be disappointed, all of you Rougeau fans.

The crowd boos as Creatchman and Hurricane Kamiguchi leave the ring, Kamiguchi heading to the back after a few words from Creatchman. Armand Rougeau gets a good pop when he comes out, excitedly playing to the fans on the way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. is proud of his son for his recuperative powers and willingness to get back in the ring after such an injury.

Armand Rougeau vs. Stonehead Ishimoto

Armand comes out firing rights at the masked Japanese wrestler. Ishimoto fights back with chest slaps before landing a big right to knock Rougeau down. He works Rougeau’s neck over for a short while before Armand reverses a front facelock into a hammerlock. Creatchman motions to the back and Kamiguchi comes rushing out to attack Armand, drawing a disqualification from referee Andre Roy.

Armand Rougeau wins by disqualification 3:49

Rene Goulet runs out to save his partner and Armand & Goulet clear the ring. Creatchman and Earth & Sky launch verbal attacks at the two from outside the ring. Jacques, Sr. is disgusted by Creatchman and his team, but happy that Goulet has his son’s back.

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

48:00 - 64:00

We come back to a shot of the ring with Goulet and Kamiguchi eyeing one another across the ring, head referee Adrian Desbois standing between them. Jacques, Sr. informs the fans that the main event of the Invaders vs. Lefebvre & Poisson has been changed to a six man Quebec Tornado tag match. All six men will be allowed to fight in and around the ring with no disqualifications until a pinfall or submission is achieved in the ring. The Invaders are the first out, getting big cheers from the crowd. Lefebvre and Poisson are booed, but Lefebvre is still getting a few cheers. Jacques, Sr. isn’t sure this match is a good idea for anyone involved, but admits that it is difficult keeping two men in the ring during these six mans.

The Invaders & Rene Goulet vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson & Hurricane Kamiguchi

This match is an all-out, bloody brawl. Chairs, the ring post, the timekeeper’s bell and table all come into play as all six men brawl both in and out of the ring. Both Invader 3 and Invader 1 have their masks ripped half off of their heads by the end of the match, Lefebvre biting Invader 1’s exposed forehead at every opportunity. Goulet counters by ripping at Kamiguchi’s mask throughout the last third, finally locking on a scorpion claw hold on the floor. A bloody Lefebvre is quick to break the hold and stomp away at Goulet, but the Invaders use the opportunity to double back body drop Poisson and hit the Catapult for the win.

Invader 3 over Gilles Poisson by pinfall after a Catapult 13:16

Lefebvre is again incensed with Poisson after he takes the fall. Poisson stops short of shoving the smaller Lefebvre away, but only barely. Kamiguchi has left ringside long before Lefebvre and Poisson stop arguing and again don’t talk to one another on the way back. The faces havie an exhausted celebration in the ring while all of this is going on. Jacques, Sr. Is ecstatic that the Invaders and Goulet triumphed in a wild match. Don’t forget to tune in next week when Gino Brito and Tony Parisi challenge for the Quebec Television Tag Team Championships!

International Wrestling, October 28th, 1983 (Taped October 26th, 1983, Earl Armstrong Arena, Ottawa, ON) 3,500 fans, sellout

Opening Matches

0:00 - 16:00

The opening montage leads to a shot of the ring with Alex and Tim Gerrard awaiting their opponents. Jacques, Sr. welcomes the fans to another great night of International Wrestling as the Can Am Express, getting a good pop, come out of the back. Jacques, Sr. has confidence that the Can Am express will find their confidence again after suffering a big loss on October 1st.

The Can Am Express vs. The Gerrard Brothers

Brunzell and Lafon are again dominant, runing over the Gerrards with very little time for either of the brothers to get in any offense. Alex Gerrard falls victim to the dropkick/cobra clutch combination.

Phil Lafon over Alex Gerrard by submission with a cobra clutch following a Brunzell dropkick 4:33

Jacques, Sr. likes the aggression and teamwork shown by Lafon and Brunzell after such a tough loss. The camera cuts from the Can Ams leaving the ring after playing to the crowd a bit to Jacques, Sr., who runs down the rest of the show. The crowd starts cheering and the camera cuts to Louis Laurence making his entrance. Laurence slaps more than a few hands on his way to the ring and Jacques, Sr. is happy to see Laurence paying attention to his fans. The crowd immediately starts booing as Dan Johnson, Laurence’s opponent for tonight, comes out to the ring with Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland in tow. Charland is making a big show out of taunting Laurence with the belt, allowing Johnson to attack before the bell from behind.

Louis Laurence vs. Dan Johnson

Charland is removed from ringside almost immediately by referee Pierre Bertrand, but the damage has been done. Johnson works on Laurence’s back after the surprise attack, keeing control of the fiery Laurence with a surfboard and a chinlock while seated on his back. Laurence comes firing back with right hands and starts kicking at Johnson’s left leg before taking him down and going to work on the same leg. Johnson goes to the eyes to stop Laurence and again works over Laurence’s back between brawling, but Laurence again fires up. Johnson goes back to the eyes and sends Laurence off the ropes only to barely escape a Laurence crossbody at two. Laurence hits a few elbows before firing Johnson off the opposite ropes, tripping him up with a drop toe hold and grabbing a half crab for the submission victory.

Louis Laurence by submission with a half crab 8:28

Jacques, Sr. is impressed with Laurence’s ability to make a comeback. He reminds the fans that tonights main event is Gino Brito and Tony Parisi taking on the Tongan Terrors as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

16:00 - 25:30

Jacques, Sr. is in the ring with Goldie Rogers when we return from break. Rogers is angrily pacing back and forth.

Jacques, Sr.: You look a little upset this evening, Mr. Rogers.

Rogers: Listen up, Jack! (Rougeau is clearly irritated, which brings a smile to Rogers’ face.) Oh, you liked that didn’t you darlin’? I saw that little smile. You see, Jack, a lot of ‘em pretend they don’t like me, but in the end they can’t resist.

Jacques, Sr.: I’m sure that’s what you’re here to talk about.

Rogers: This is my time, Jack, so why don’t you let me decide what to do with it? Now last night, just across the river, Tony Ricco cost me big against Dave Kochen. It seems to me there are some familiar faces in the crowd tonight. Most of the ones i recognize seemed pretty damn happy that Ricco got in my way.

Jacques, Sr.: To be fair, Mr. Rogers, Tony Ricco simply stopped Steve Regal from interfering in your one-on-one match with Dave Kochen.

Rogers: Oh, is that how it went? I remember this fine lookin’ woman behind you being horrified that her man, Goldie Rogers, got cheated. (Rogers points out a different woman in the front row.) Looks like your husband sprung for the good tickets tonight, not four rows back. Don’t worry darlin’, tonight you won’t be disappointed. Tonight you get a front row seat to me putting Tony Ricco in his place.

Jacques, Sr. shakes his head as he leaves the ring, Rogers intently looking back at the entrance curtain. Tony Ricco comes out to a good pop. Jacques, Sr. is proud of Ricco for his actions the night before and hopes the young man can stop an angry Goldie Rogers.

Tony Ricco vs. Goldie Rogers

Rogers stays close to his corner at the bell, prompting Ricco to an aggressive rush. Rogers catches Ricco with a drop toe hold that bounces the youngster’s head off the first turnbuckle. Both women Rogers addressed earlier are treated a a Rogers hip grinding before the arrogant Canadian goes to work on Ricco’s neck. Ricco makes several attempts at a comeback, but Rogers cuts him off with brutal efficiency. When Ricco finally does land a barrage of punches to Rogers’ face, Rogers is quick to bail out of the ring. Ricco follows as closely as he can, but gets caught with a boot to the gut. Ricco reverses a whip into the railing and sends Rogers into the crowd with a big running right hand. Back in the ring Ricco misses a dropkick and Rogers immediately begins stomping away at Ricco’s head and neck. He picks the youngster up and drops him throat-first over the top rope, finishing Ricco off with a neckbreaker.

Goldie Rogers by pinfall with a neckbreaker 7:16

Steve Regal comes sprinting out post-match and the two heels double team Ricco until Dave Kochen comes running to ringside with a chair and clears both Rogers and Regal out. Jacques, Sr. hopes Ricco is okay after the attack to his neck and is relieved that Kochen made the save.

Commercial Break

25:30 - 34:00

Kochen is still in the ring when we come back from commercial, Ricco recovering as Kochen holds off Regal and Rogers. Jacques, Sr. Informs the fans that during the break he was told that Regal and Kochen will be wrestling in an impromptu match right now. Kochen hands head referee Adrian Desbois the chair after Regal gets into the ring.

Dave Kochen vs. Steve Regal

Kochen grabs an early headlock only to be shot into the ropes and tripped by Rogers. Regal bounces off the ropes for some kind of attack but gets tripped by Ricco. Regal still manages to get an armbar on Kochen, who is busy glaring at Rogers. Desbois has had enough and sends both Rogers and Ricco to the back. While Desbois is distracted Regal uses the hair to pull Kochen to the ground and land a few punches. Regal continues on the arm of Kochen, who comes firing back with rights. Regal tries going to the eyes, but Kochen punches right through that. Regal starts choking Kochen whle standing, releasing with one hand and pulling him down to the mat by the hair. Desbois gives Regal a stern lecture before the American again starts working on Kochen’s arm. Finally Kochen makes his comeback stick and finishes Regal off with an abdominal stretch after a slam and a vertical suplex.

Dave Kochen by submission with an abdominal stretch 7:41

Jacques, Sr. congratulates Kochen on an impressive win. He knows the issue still needs to be settled with Rogers, given the vicious nature of their conflict.

Commercial Break

34:00 - 47:30

We return from commercial to a shot of the ring, the crowd bursting into cheers when the Invaders and Armand Rougeau emerge from the curtain. Jacques, Sr. talks about thw wild brawl that ended the show last week between the Invaders and Lefebvre/Poisson with Goulet and Kamiguchi involved. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson, Hurricane Kamiguchi and Eddie Creatchman come out to boos, Creatchman getting all kinds of garbage thrown his way. Jacques, Sr. is hopeful after the last few weeks that the Invaders and his son can come out on top.

The Invaders & Armand Rougeau vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson & Hurricane Kamiguchi

Armand and Kamiguchi start out, Armand taking it to the masked Japanese wrestler and getting the Invaders involved with some quick tags. Invader 1 is the victim of several clubs to the upper back by an interfering Poisson to turn things in the heels favor. Invader 1 gets worked over, Lefebvre and Poisson cutting him off multiple times before he tags in Invader 3, who sends Poisson out of the ring with a dropkick and lays into Lefebvre with right hands. Poisson yanks Invader 3 out of the ring by the legs and the two brawl on the floor, Lefebvre joining in. Invader 1 runs across the ring to join the fracas and Armand makes a beeline for Kamiguchi. Kamiguchi drops off the apron only to eat Rougeau’s boots as the youngster slides under the ropes. The six men brawl around ringside, referee Andre Roy reaching a ten count and disqualifying both teams.

Both teams were counted out 11:33

Jacques, Sr. tells the fans that we have to go to commercial as the six men continue to brawl around ringside, Invader 1 bashing Lefebvre’s head into the table right in front of Jacques, Sr.

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

47:30 - 65:00

We come back from commercial to the backstage interview area, where Eddie Creatchman and Canadian International Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express are standing. The Midnights have their newly won gold around their waists. Creatchman walks over and picks up the microphone with no Jacques, Sr. in sight.

Creatchman: The last two weeks the IWA has seen fit to make matches involving the Midnight Express after it was very clearly stated that these men will not be wrestling on TV. You see, Frank Valois and his cronies are unhappy that their favorites, the Rougeaus, are not champions and have decided to take it out on us. We had nothing to do with Jacques and Raymond’s injuries. I can’t say I’m sorry to see them gone, but neither I nor the Midnight Express had a hand in either of them getting hurt. The Midnight Express was not ready for a match two weeks ago when we got blindsided with the Dino Bravo six man tag. I think that Dennis and Randy, under the circumstances, handled themselves very well.

Creatchman stops and shakes hands with both Condrey and Rose.

Creatchman: As for this blindsiding us with matches, I have been in contact with my lawyers. We will not be subject to the people who run the IWA playing favorites! I expect the same kind of treatment the Rougeaus got for the Midnight Express! Randy and Dennis are far better champions than those hotheads could ever be! They will go down as the greatest tag champions in the history of the IWA before they are done. And if the fans don’t stop throwing garbage we will start boycotting TV altogether. These men deserve your respect and they will have it!

The camera cuts back to Jacques, Sr. at the announce tale, who shakes his head. He cannot believe Creatchman’s claims about not injuring his sons and wonders where Creatchman, Condrey and Rose got the idea that champions didn’t have to wrestle on TV. The camera cuts to Gino Brito and Tony Parisi making their entrance to a big pop. Jacques, Sr. hopes that these two can capture the TV titles from the Tongan Terrors. The TV Tag Title holders, the Tongan Terrors, stalk down to the ring with Lou Albano making sure as many people as possible in the arena see the belts around their waists. Jacques, Sr. admits that Albano’s monsters are very impressive in the ring.

Gino Brito & Tony Parisi vs. Quebec Television Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors in a title match (15 minute time limit)

Brito comes out hot against both Tongans, holding his own. King Tonga catches Brito with a big chop to the neck that allows the Terrors to double team the veteran. Brito fights off the double team after a short while and tags Parisi. Parisi tries working over Tonga John with punches and a dropkick, but the big Tongan avoids the dropkick and the Tongan wrestlers start working over Parisi. Parisi hits a dropkick on King Tonga later on, only to have Tonga John stomp on his back as he tries to get to his feet. Tonga John continues the assault after being tagged in, but Parisi rolls him up with a sunset flip for a two. John stomps away on Parisi and tags King Tonga. The King hits a few martial arts kicks, but Parisi catches one and trips up King Tonga. Albano distracts head referee Adrian Desbois while Parisi tags Brito, causing Brito to be escorted back to his corner. The King catches Parisi with a savate kick after allowing John to tag himself in, Tonga John climbing to the top. Brito is able to cause John to stumble on the top rope before King Tonga knocks him off the apron. Parisi avoids the flying headbutt, but can’t make the tag as Brito and King Tonga are brawling on the floor. Tonga John hits a few big chops before sending Parisi to the ropes and missing a big boot, Parisi catching John with a crossbody on the return for a nearfall. King Tonga crashes the ring to give his team a two on one advantage that is short-lived when Brito comes charging in to Parisi’s aid. The ring clears with under thirty seconds left in the match and Tonga John hits his running big boot only for Brito to break up the pin at the last moment. All four men are in th ring when the bell sounds and the 15 minute time limit is up.

The teams go to a draw 15:00

Jacques, Sr. begrudgingly gives Albano and his team credit for being able to put a hurting on the team of Brito and Parisi and almost get a win, even if Albano had to distract the referee in order to do it. We are out of time for tonight’s show, but be sure to tune in next week when Dino Bravo will again be at the show!

International Wrestling, November 4th, 1983 (Taped November 2nd, 1983, Pavillon de la Jeunesse, Quebec City, QC) 4,700 fans

0:00 - 6:30

The opening sequence leads to a shot of the ring with Dino Bravo, Gino Brito and Tony Parisi in the ring with Jacques, Sr., the crowd going nuts.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Bravo, the last time we saw you the Midnight Express got all they could handle in that big six man tag. Tonight you have another match, this time with Invader 3 joining you and Gino Brito against the Midnight Express and Mad Dog Lefebvre.

Bravo: Tonight, we’re going to give these fans a win! Last time emotions were running high and we just went after them. Tonight we are still going to take it to the Midnight Express, but we’re going to finish it right.

Brito: We’re going to hit them where it hurts. They pride themselves on being the best wrestlers around. When they lose, it not only costs them the winner’s purse. It hurts their pride.

Jacques, Sr.: They have claimed that as champions, they should not be wrestling on free TV.

Parisi: So they won’t lose on TV, Jacques, Sr. But Frank Valois has made this match tonight without their consent as far as I know. That means Gino, Dino and Invader 3 will have to be on their guard.

Bravo: I won’t stand here and tell you they aren’t great wrestlers. And they are willing to do whatever they need to in order to win. We have our work cut out for us tonight, Jacques, Sr., but you and these fans all know that we’re capable of getting the job done.

The three wrestlers leave the ring and Jacques, Sr. heads back to the announce table as the crowd roars it’s approval. Jacques, Sr. lets the fans at home know that tonight’s show will be 90 minutes instead of 60 as there is just too much to fit into an hour. Joel Deaton comes out to some boos, but not a big reaction. Jacques, Sr. puts him over as a dangerous competitor. Tim Gerrard comes out to the ring with Jacques, Sr. talking about the challenge ahead of him. Valentine attacks before the bell, prompting the crowd to more boos.

Joel Deaton vs. Tim Gerrard

Deaton is all over Gerrard throughout, but the young Gerrard fights back with a lot of spirit. A big boot from Deaton knocks Gerrard cold, getting an easy three count.

Joel Deaton by pinfall after a big boot 3:47

Jacques, Sr. isn’t sure that kick is entirely legal given the fact that Gerrard is still out after the match. Deaton is certainly a skilled competitor, but might not be putting his opponents away honestly.

Commercial Break

6:30 - 22:30

We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring with the Marcus Brothers awaiting their opponents. The Can Am Express emerge from the curtain to a lot of cheers. Jacques, Sr. Talks about how Lafon and Brunzell have been trying to come back from their crushing loss to the Tongan Terrors.

The Can Am Express vs. The Marcus Brothers

The Can Am Express continue their run of aggressive matches, rolling right over the Marcus Brothers. Bob Marcus never had the chance to tag in before Brunzell hit a dropkick on Joe Marcus after tagging Lafon. Lafon locked in the cobra clutch for the quick victory.

Phil Lafon over Joe Marcus by submission with the cobra clutch after a Brunzell dropkick 4:17

Jacques, Sr. puts over the Can Ams as a team on the rise again as they celebrate in the ring. The camera cuts to Jacques, Sr. and he runs down the rest of the card after putting over both Valentine and the Can Ams. The camera cuts back to the ring as the crowd erupts into big boos. Lou Albano leads the Quebec Television Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors out to the ring, Albano playing up the belts all the way. Jacques, Sr. Is not overly happy that the Terrors are the champions, but admits that they will be tough to get those belts off of. The crowd loses it’s breath as the Sailor Whites make their return, stomping to the ring. Jacques, Sr. is immediately worried that the fans in the arena may not be safe from the fury these two teams will unleash upon one another.

Quebec Television Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors vs. The Sailor Whites in a title match (15 minute time limit)

This is a pier-six brawl from the get-go. The Sailor Whites are able to match the ferocity, size and power of the Tongans from the start. Head Referee Adrian Desbois cannot keep two men in the ring, then cannot get anyone back in the ring. All four wrestlers brawl into the crowd as Desbois reaches ten for the double count-out.

The match ends in a double count-out 3:52

The two teams brawl back and forth in the crowd, displacing hundreds of fans and making generous use of the chairs cleared by that. As well as the ring bell, timekeeper’s table, announce table and several microphones (as well as their cords) not being used by Jacques, Sr. on said table. All four are bleeding when the Can Am Express come charging into the fray and a three way brawl ensues. Jacques, Sr. is frantically calling the action and finally security, every referee in the back and the entire undercard come out to pull the six men apart as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

22:30 - 24:00

The Tongan Terrors are destroying the Gerrard Brothers backstage when we come back. King Tonga savate kicks Tim Gerrard and Tonga John hits a running big boot on Alex before both stalk over to Albano, who walks ten feet towards a waiting Jacques, Sr. in the backstage interview area.

Jacques, Sr.: I’m not sure what Tim and Alex Gerrard did to deserve that beating from your charges, Mr. Albano.

Albano: Does it matter? They were in our way and these two are in the mood to hurt somebody, Rougeau!

Jacques, Sr.: You do enjoy taking advantage of your men holding those television titles, don’t you Mr. Albano?

Albano: It is a perk, buddy. I don’t see why we wouldn’t. What I’d really like to know is why Lafon and Brunzell keep sticking their noses into our matches. We already have something in store for those schmucks, but they just keep asking for more.

Jacques, Sr.: I’d say they have good cause to be angry with you and your team, Mr. Albano.

Albano: I could care less about cause, Jacques, Sr. Those two have been a constant thorn in the side of my monsters. And it’s about time we dealt with it. Another thing, Jacques, Sr. It seems to me Lafon only attacks me when my monsters aren’t around. Are you sure that is the kind of man you and these fans want to get behind?

Jacques, Sr.: You do have an interesting way of looking at things, Mr. Albano.

Albano: And you are always an interesting man to talk to, Mr. Rougeau. Not interesting enough that I wouldn’t have my monsters tear you apart if need be, though. Just remember that.

The Tongan Terrors and Albano walk off, Jacques, Sr. an amazed and confused look on his face as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

24:00 - 35:00

We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring with Louis Laurence and Tony Ricco emerging from the back to cheers. Jacques, Sr. talks about Laurence’s ongoing struggle to wrest the Quebec Heavyweight Championship from Richard Charland. Charland and his partner Dan Johnson come out next to boos, Charland playing up the belt around his waist. Jacques, Sr. is amazed that Charland has hung on to the title so far given his lack of real wins as champion.

Louis Laurence & Tony Ricco vs. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland & Dan Johnson

Laurence immediately goes after Charland, who hides half outside the ropes while referee Andre Roy holds Laurence back. Charland sneaks in a cheap shot before heading out of the ring and jawing with the fans at ringside. The match drags until Johnson is tagged in and Laurence immediately takes his anger out on Johnson. Laurence and Ricco work over Johnson until Laurence is caught chasing Charland off the apron. Several forearms to the back of the neck from Johnson set up a hotshot from Charland, back on the apron. The heels work over Laurence with several rollups and a tag missed by Roy as he contains Charland keeping Laurence in the ring. Ricco finally gets the tag and comes in hot. Charland attacks Laurence on the outside while Ricco works Johnson over. Charland is put back in his corner by Roy and tags in, leading Laurence to demand the tag from Ricco. Ricco asks if Laurence is ready to come back in before tagging. Charland hides in the corner several times from Laurence before bursting out with a clothesline on the break. Three Charland punches put Ricco on the floor. Charland drags Laurence back to his corner where Johnson is perched on the second rope. A spike piledriver gets Charland the three count and the win over his rival Laurence.

Richard Charland over Louis Laurence by pinfall after a spike piledriver 9:24

Jacques, Sr. understands how Laurence could lose his cool given all the time he’s spent chasing Richard Charland. The crowd boos as Charland celebrates, telling Laurence he will never get his hands on the belt.

Commercial Break

35:00 - 45:00

Steve Regal is in the ring when we come back from commercial. Tony Parisi comes out to a good reaction from the fans. Jacques, Sr. recounts Parisi’s recent run-ins with Regal’s partner Goldie Rogers.

Tony Parisi vs. Steve Regal

Parisi has a clear advantage over Regal from the start. Regal goes to the eyes and punches Parisi in the throat to gain the advantage. Parisi fights back and eventually comes back, working over Regal’s ribs to set up his flying senton for the three.

Tony Parisi by pinfall after a flying senton 7:44

Jacques, Sr. puts Parisi over as a solid veteran that is a credit to the IWA. Parisi has always been willing to fight for what’s right and will continue to do so against Rogers and the Midnight Express. The camera cuts to Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express in the interview area.

Creatchman: It’s amazing that I didn’t make this happen earlier. For years i put up with that overbearing a-

Condrey and Rose interrupt Creatchman and say something off microphone to him.

Creatchman: *ahem* There are bigger fish to fry. We would like it to be known that if the IWA continues to book these men in television matches there will be consequences. I can just imagine the question here. But what can you do, Eddie Creatchaman? Just remember, nobody believed I could orchestrate the title match and nobody believed the Midnight Express could win the match. But it happened. So I am warning the people who make the decisions around here that if they want these belts to stick around they had best start to listen. As far as tonight is concerned, do you think the return of Dino Bravo matters one bit? He’s just another crony of Frank Valois and the Rougeaus. Everyone has seen how we handle their ilk. So tonight all of you completely undeserving fans will be seeing the Midnight Express wrestle on TV for the last time. You will see them surgically destroy some hand-picked team meant to show you that the Midnight Express are not the best wrestlers you will ever see. And you will again not appreciate these men behind me for how great they truly are. Which is why you will never see them on TV again as long as they are champions.

Creatchman drops the microphone and the three men walk off angrily.

Commercial Break

45:00 - 58:30

We return from commercial to a shot of Earth & Sky, Eddie Creatchman and Goldie Rogers on their way to the ring. The crowd is booing and throwing garbage. Rogers is in no way discouraged from his usual displays towards the women in the first few rows. Jacques, Sr. is thoroughly disgusted at all four. Armand Rougeau, Rene Goulet & Dave Kochen enter the arena floor to a good amount of cheers. Jacques, Sr. is happy to see that his son is doing well after the scare with his neck.

Armand Rougeau, Rene Goulet & Dave Kochen vs. Earth and Sky & Goldie Rogers

This match is another brawl, the team of Earth & Sky finally getting things going in their favor after Rogers pulls Kochen out of the ring and posts him. Referee Pierre Bertrand is distracted by Stonehead Ishimoto, the only reason this wasn’t a disqualification. Kochen, now busted open, is the subject of a beating at the hands of all three heels. He is cut off several times before he manages to crawl over and tag to a red hot Armand Rougeau. Rogers is cowering at the guard rail after several Armand punches when Kochen flies in and nails him with more rights. The faces work Kamiguchi over before Creatchman jumps on the apron to distract Armand. Ishimoto attacks from behind, but Armand is able to tag in Kochen. Kochen gets some offense in on Ishimoto as Rogers has a word with Creatchman on the floor. Ishimoto rolls over to the ring apron and takes something from Creatchman as Rogers baits Kochen and referee Bertrand follows. Kochen runs right into a loaded headbutt and Ishimoto tags in Rogers, who hits a neckbreaker on Kochen for three.

Goldie Rogers over Dave Kochen by pinfall after a neckbreaker 9:51

The heels celebrate in the ring as Jacques, Sr. expresses his disgust with how that match ended. Armand and Goulet help a groggy, bloody and beaten Kochen over to the announce table and say something to Jacques, Sr.

Jacques, Sr.: Fans, I’ve been told that Dave Kochen has something he wants to say to Goldie Rogers.

Rogers turns back to the ring as he was just reaching the entrance aisle. He gets an amused look on his face and motions for Kochen to go ahead.

Kochen: It’s about time we settled this, Rogers. So I got a win on you? That means that every time I....I come out here.

Kochen pauses to catch his breath.

Kochen: I have to watch for every dirty tactic in the book even if you’re not in the match. How about we decide this like men in the ring next week?

Rogers laughs and motions for Kochen to bring the microphone over. Kochen walks most of the way over and throws it into Rogers’ chest with a loud thump. Rogers catches the mic.

Rogers: I must’ve struck a nerve, Jack. You have no chance of beating me, but here you are. You know that cut on your head looks pretty bad, so I’ll take that as you being a little out of it. Listen up, Jack, and listen good. I’m gonna let you off the hook. But if you still want a match, any match you like, we’ll do it. How’s that sound?

Rogers, laughing, throws the mic back at Kochen the same way he got it. Kochen does not catch the mic and slowly picks it up. Rogers looks like he’s ready to attack, but Armand and Goulet are too close. Kochen uses his free hand to wipe some blood off of his face and smiles.

Kochen: You’re right, this cut is pretty bad. It’ll probably be something you use against me next week. But I know exactly what kind of match I want. You and me in a Coward’s Way Out match!

The crowd erupts, but Rogers just laughs and turns around to leave. Jacques, Sr. hypes the Cowards Way Out match next week as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

58:30 - 72:30

The camera is on the ring as we come back from commercial, Invader 1 making his entrance to loud cheers. Gilles Poisson emerges from the back to boos with his forehead taped over, but seems not to notice the fans. Jacques, Sr. talks about the history these two have over the last few months.

Invader 1 vs. Gilles Poisson

The match becomes an all-out brawl from the start. Invader 1 is on the short end after a few punches from the 280 pound Poisson. The Puerto Rican wrestler fires up and comes back big, ending a flurry with a dropkick that takes the big man off his feet. Poisson eventually pulls Invader 1 throat and chest-first across the top rope to turn the tides in his favor. Invader 1 is cut off from coming back by Poisson using every and any dirty trick. Poisson gets caught in a quick sleeper from Invader 1, but makes the ropes and both men end up outside. Poisson hits a big slam on the outside, rolls the vulnerable masked man back into the ring and locks in a bearhug in the center of the ring. Invader 1 can’t fight off the hold and referee Pierre Bertrand raises Poisson’s hand in victory.

Gilles Poisson by submission with a bearhug 12:52

Jacques, Sr. doesn’t like some of Poisson’s tactics, but has to admit that he is a very capable and dangerous wrestler.

Commercial Break & Upcoming Announcements

72:30 - 92:30

The teams of The Midnight Express & Mad Dog Lefebvre (with his forehead taped up) and Dino Bravo, Gino Brito & Invader 3 are in the ring when we get back from commercial. Bravo and Brito are itching to go, the Midnights are conferring with Creatchman on the apron and Lefebvre & Invader 3 look ready to charge one another and start brawling. Jacques, Sr. is excited for the start of what promises to be a great main event!

Dino Bravo, Gino Brito & Invader 3 vs. The Midnight Express & Mad Dog Lefebvre

Bravo and Brito make a concerted effort to start things off slow and steady, but Condrey and Rose attempt to bait them into brawling at every opportunity. Creatchman makes frequent trips over to the announce table to shout about how the champions should not be wrestling into Jacques, Sr.’s microphone. Invader 3 and Lefebvre tear into one another, which is just the opening the Midnights were looking for. The heels work Invader 3 over and he is unable to make the tag after several valiant efforts, the last being a big dropkick. Invader makes the tag to Brito after a back body drop under a Condrey punch! Brito is a house afire, but Rose and Lefebvre take advantage when Brito gets too close to their corner and Brito is soon in trouble after momentarily fighting off all three. Brito gets worked over, hitting a series of punches to both Condrey and Rose before being dragged back into the wrong corner. He starts attacking Condrey’s leg desperately, barely missing the tag on Bravo when Lefebvre drags him back across the ring. Brito again attacks the knee as Lefebvre tags in, locking on a figure four before getting stomped by both members of the Midnight Express. Bravo and Invader 3 clear the ring of the Midnights, head referee Adrian Desbois restoring order rather quickly as both Bravo and Invader 3 very quickly get back to their corner. Bravo takes the tag from Brito as Lefebvre is struggling to move after the figure four. Bravo runs the Midnight Express out of the ring single-handedly and Invader 3 attacks Rose on the floor. Bravo picks Lefebvre up for the airplane spin, Brito cutting Condrey off with punches and following him to the floor. Bravo dumps Lefebvre after a few spins, getting the three to a huge pop.

Dino Bravo over Mad Dog Lefebvre by pinfall after an airplane spin 16:44

Jacques, Sr. is going nuts on commentary, putting over how big this win is for the IWA after what the Midnight Express did to the Rougeaus. Poisson comes down to ringside as the Midnight Express leaves and begins berating Lefebvre, presumably for losing the match. The two have a shoving match that is quickly broken up when Invader 1 comes charging down to ringside and both Invaders attack. The two teams are quickly pulled apart, Brito and Bravo escorting the Invaders to the back. Jacques, Sr. walks out to where Lefebvre and Poisson are glaring at one another at ringside.

Jacques, Sr.: It seems like you two have been having some troubles of late.

Poisson: Ever since Pierre had his match with Vachon, he seems to think he’s the leader of this team. I’m getting sick of his attitude.

Lefebvre: No, what I think is that you need to get it together and stop costing us matches.

Poisson: Who won their match tonight? Who took the fall in theirs?

Lefebvre: You’re kidding me, right? How often have I had to drag us to victory when you were right on the verge of losing?

Jacques, Sr.: Now I’ve known the two of you for many years and I don’t think either of you are being fair to the other. Together you make a very formidable tag team.

Poisson: Jacques, you have a point. If we work together there aren’t many who can stand against us. And if we don’t the Invaders are going to take us down one at a time. Pierre?

Lefebvre: You’re not wrong about that. I think it’s time we ended this fight.

Lefebvre and Poisson confer for a moment and seem to agree on something.

Lefebvre: Next week, we want the Invaders in a Quebec tornado match. Let’s see if they’re as tough as they think they are!

Jacques, Sr.: First the Coward’s Way Out match and now a Quebec tornado match! Fans, we’re out of time, but don’t miss next week’s show!

International Wrestling November 11th, 1983 (Taped November 9th, 1983, Palais des Sports, Sherbrooke, QC) 3,646 fans, sellout

Opening Interview/Match

0:00 - 12:30

The opening montage cuts to Jacques, Sr. in the ring with Eddie Creatchman and all four of his clients. Jacques, Sr. Looks none too happy to be there and Creatchman seems to be as happy as we’ve ever seen him.

Jacques, Sr.: Welcome to International Wrestling, fans. Tonight we have another 90 minute version of the show for you. Tonight I have the distinct displeasure of interviewing one Eddie Creatchman on behalf of his two teams, the Midnight Express and Earth & Sky.

Creatchman: Would you care to inform the fans why you’re interviewing us for the first time in over a month, Rougeau?

Jacques, Sr.: I have been informed that it is my duty to interview everyone scheduled for interview time by the IWA as a condition of my employment. What they have done is secondary to that, according to my bosses.

Creatchman: Imagine that, having to actually do your job to keep it.

Jacques, Sr.: You didn’t request this time to insult me in front of these fans, Eddie Creatchman. How about you get to the point?

Creatchman: Didn’t I? I’d say it’s hard for you to know that, Rougeau.

Condrey and Rose say something to Creatchman.

Creatchman: You aren’t totally wrong Rougeau. What I came here to talk about was how I led these four men to sending your two older sons packing and putting your youngest son out for almost a month. You see these fans here worship the Rougeaus, Gino Brito and Dino Bravo. But their precious Rougeaus are gone and Brito is next on the way out. Soon Brito and his little buddy Parisi will be a bad memory and the fans will recognize the Midnight Express as their real heroes.

Jacques, Sr.: I notice that you swept Dino Bravo aside rather quickly. Perhaps because you and your men don’t have an answer for him?

Creatchman: So he shows up every two or three weeks and the IWA uses that as an excuse to force the Canadian International Tag Team champions to wrestle? How is that in any way impressive, Rougeau?

Jacques, Sr.: May I remind you, Eddie Creatchman, that they are employed as wrestlers and have an obligation to do so, champions or no?

Creatchman: May I remind you, Rougeau, that you have an obligation to interview any and all who have interview time?

There are a few moments of uneasy silence.

Jacques, Sr.: It seems your interview time is coming to an end. I imagine you have something to say on behalf of your masked team.

Creatchman: First, try not to waste so much of me time when I’m out here next. There will be a formal complaint. Your family is weak, Rougeau, and these two men will continue to prove that against your youngest son and his crazy uncle. It’s one thing to be the weak member of a family, but to be the weakest member of the Rougeau family is laughable.

Creatchman exits the ring and sends the Canadian International Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express to the back. The Marcus Brothers come out of the back to almost no reaction. Jacques, Sr. knows the Marcus boys are hopelessly overmatched but hopes they can give Earth & Sky a run for their money.

Earth & Sky vs. The Marcus Brothers

Kamiguchi and Ishimoto make short work of Bob & Joe Marcus, with a short comeback by Joe that ends after a Kamiguchi dropkick catches him coming off the ropes. Kamiguchi scoops Marcus off the ground and spins him around on his shoulders before falling to his back. Ishimoto, who tags Kamiguchi mid-move, is in perfect position to hit a falling headbutt to the midsection for the three.

Stonehead Ishimoto over Joe Marcus by pinfall after an airplane spin samoan drop/falling headbutt combination 4:48

The camera cuts back to Jacques, Sr. who has to admit that Earth & Sky are indeed a formidable team, despite their actions. He runs down the rest of the card, highlighting the Cowards Way Out match, Hercules Ayala against Gino Brito and the Quebec Tornado match in the main event. The camera cuts back to the ring with Alex Gerrard awaiting his opponent. Newcomer Jake Roberts comes out of the curtain to not much reaction. Roberts slithers his way into the ring as Jacques, Sr. puts him over as a very dangerous and unpredictable wrestler.

Jake Roberts vs. Alex Gerrard

Roberts seems to be toying with Gerrard from the start, the young upstart finally getting what seems like a big advantage and following up with a dropkick. Roberts looks like he’s down & out for a few moments before hitting a big swinging knee lift and dropping Gerrard to the canvas. Roberts grins and leans back against a turnbuckle, allowing Gerrard to recover. Gerrard is just regaining his feet when Roberts stomps on the back of his head several times and again heads back to the corner. Roberts slithers over as Gerrard is recovering, looking him right in the face, before standing up and kicking a seated Gerrard right in the face to put him back on the mat. A pickup is followed by an arm wrench, which leads to a short clothesline. Roberts picks Gerrard up and hits a DDT for the easy three before slithering back out of the ring and heading to the back to boos.

Jake Roberts by pinfall after a DDT 3:41

Jacques, Sr. isn’t quite sure what to make of Roberts after that. The man is clearly sadistic and unhinged though. The Cowards Way Out match is next, so don’t go anywhere!

Commercial Break

12:30 - 24:30

We come back from commercial with Jacques, Sr. giving us a rundown of the Goldie Rogers/Dave Kochen feud over the past few months as Kochen is on on his way to the ring to cheers, his forehead still bandaged from last week. Rogers comes out to big boos and seems especially intent on making every woman in between him and the ring his target tonight. Kochen seems to be getting impatient and heads out of the ring to charge at Rogers. Rogers catches Kochen with a big right just as he gets into range and grins, resuming his hip grinding.

Dave Kochen vs. Goldie Rogers in a Coward’s Way Out match

Rogers starts beating up on Kochen halfway down the aisle, banging his head off of the railing to open up the cut he made last week. This continues as Rogers pulls Kochen towards the ring and a slam of Kochen’s head into the apron sends Kochen back into the ring. Rogers works over Kochen in the ring and drops him throat-first over the top rope before using both feet to shove him out of the ring under the ropes. Kochen is slow to recover and Rogers points to the entrance curtain. Kochen tries getting back into the ring only for Rogers to lay in another beating and shove him right back out. This time Rogers follows him out and whips him into the guard rail just to the left of the entrance aisle. Rogers again points to the back as if to order Kochen away from ringside. Kochen is up and moving slowly over to Rogers and the two have an exchange of punches that sees Rogers retreat. Kochen catches a boot to the midsection as he gives chase, followed by more working of the cut and he is again sent into the guard rail. Rogers drags him into the aisle and slams him down, then grabs a chair and sits down. He urges Kochen to go to the back, but the young man only crawls to the chair and another punch exchange ensues.

Rogers retreats into the corner of the ring and comes out the other side. He tries to whip Kochen into the rail again after working the cut some more and gets it reversed. Rogers comes rushing at Kochen only to take a dropkick from the youngster. Kochen straddles Rogers and ebgins punching wildly at his face. Rogers struggles to get Kochen off of him and stand up, but Kochen comes right back with more right hands and sends Rogers reeling back near the ringpost. Kochen bangs Rogers head off of the ringpost, but Rogers connects with a low blow from the floor that puts both men on their backs. Rogers is busted open but doesn’t seem to notice as both men get to their knees. Rogers decks Kochen and sends him back to the mat, but not before Kochen gives him a grin. Rogers gets a puzzled look on his face and puts his hand up to his own face, seeing the blood on his hand. The shock on Rogers’ face seems to give both the crowd and Kochen energy as Kochen fights to his feet through enraged Rogers punches and fires back. Kochen again bangs Rogers head off the ringpost before slumping down with his head on the ring apron. Rogers again puts his hand up to his face and this time uses his other hand to check his hair. When his hair comes up bloody, Rogers gets a look of absolute horror on his face. He backs towards the entrance aisle, shaking his head no and pointing at Kochen. Rogers stops and looks like he’s reconsidering before he again checks his hair and all of his resolve fails him. He turns around and runs to the back, giving Kochen the win.

Kochen over Rogers when Rogers retreats to the back 9:36

The crowd is going absolutely nuts for Kochen, who seems mostly out of it. He raises his arm weakly as he stumbles towards the back. Tony Parisi, Louis Laurence and Tony Ricco come out to aid him, but Kochen refuses help. The three congratulate him and celebrate with Kochen, raising Kochen’s arm in victory just as they reach the curtain to a big pop, before all four disappear to the back. Jacques, Sr. has been commending the young man on his courage, determination and intelligence since his first comeback in the match.

Commercial Break

24:30 - 35:30

The camera is on Jacques, Sr. as we come back from commercial and he recaps the events that have transpired so far. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland, Dan Johnson and Steve Regal emerge from the curtain to boos. Jacques, Sr. can’t stand seeing Charland with the belt he has done nothing but cheat to hold on to. Tony Parisi, Louis Laurence & Tony Ricco are greeted with cheers as they walk to the ring. Jacques, Sr. is convinced that Louis Laurence will be the one to take the Quebec Heavyweight title away from Charland. Charland leads a pre-match attack that leaves Laurence in the ring with Parisi and Ricco on the apron recovering.

Tony Parisi, Louis Laurence & Tony Ricco vs. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland, Dan Johnson & Steve Regal

The heels beat on Laurence for a short time, but the young man comes firing back on Charland. The champion is quick to clear the ring, allowing Laurence to tag Parisi. Parisi and Ricco work over Regal until Johnson catches Ricco from behind and slams him down. All three heels start in on Ricco, Charland twice bringing Laurence into the ring to distract referee Pierre Bertrand so the heels can triple team Ricco. Ricco makes a few comeback attempts before one sticks and he tags in Laurence. Laurence clears the ring and seems to have had enough of Charland, making a beeline for him. In the ensuing chaos, Bertrand loses track of who the legal man is and Laurence ends up breaking up a Regal pin attempt on Ricco at two. Ricco gains the upper hand and climbs up top, hitting a flying crossbody for the three.

Tony Ricco over Steve Regal with a flying crossbody 9:18

Jacques, Sr. is pleased that the right team got the win. Laurence certainly looked like a man who could wrest the championship from Charland tonight. Brito vs. Ayala is up next!

Commercial Break

35:30 - 47:30

Gino Brito comes out to big cheers and Jacques, Sr. is always happy to see his longtime friend come to the ring. Hercules Ayala comes out to a pretty big reaction from the crowd. Jacques, Sr. puts over how well Ayala did against Andre the Giant despite his loss.

Gino Brito vs. Hercules Ayala

The two work a slower-paced match around a headlock for Brito, trying to control the strongman from Puerto Rico. Ayala is impervious to Brito’s attempts to shoulderblock him, but Brito finds several clever ways of getting back to a headlock each time rather than engage the younger, stronger man in a duel of strength. Ayala finally turns things around with a slam as Brito comes off the ropes. Brito takes a beating until he avoids an elbow drop and goes back to the headlock. Ayala starts brawling, with Brito eagerly fighting back with some brawling of his own. The brawl becomes heated and spills outside, where head referee Adrian Desbois has no choice but to count both men out.

Both men counted out 9:57

Jacques, Sr. is impressed with both Brito’s ability to make the younger, stronger Ayala wrestle his match and Ayala’s raw power. The two men stop brawling shortly after the bell and settle down enough to shake hands, much to the crowd’s delight. Jacques, Sr. puts Ayala over as a very strong and talented young man and hopes he will be coming back again soon.

Commercial Break

47:30 - 60:30

Jacques, Sr. is in the ring with Sergeant Slaughter when we come back from commercial. Slaughter is looking very agitated tonight.

Jacques, Sr.: You’re looking a little upset tonight, Sgt. Slaughter. What’s on your mind?

Slaughter: That little punk Lafon got one over on me last time I was here, Jacques, Sr. Would you let something like that stand?

Jacques, Sr.: For one, Lafon is a young man who has improved very quickly. He will have a very successful career if you ask me. And I might add that you were more than a little distracted by your own brass knuckles leading up to that rollup.

Slaughter: Improving. That’s the word you use for it? He’s a punk who doesn’t know when to shut his mouth. If he did, there would be no need for any brass knuckles. And he even goes so far as to use my hold to win matches. How can you not see that this kid is doing everything he can to show me up?

Jacques, Sr.: From what I have seen he’s been defending himself against a bully.

Slaughter: Well then he has you fooled, Jacques, Sr. Tonight his little game is up though. No Brunzell to save him, because you see tonight he has to face the Sarge one on one. And I will show him how to properly apply the cobra clutch. Not that it will help him win this match.

The crowd boos Slaughter as Jacques, Sr. exits the ring. Phil Lafon comes out of the back to cheers, looking very intense. Jacques, Sr. hopes Lafon is ready for a one on one match with a man as dangerous as Slaughter.

Phil Lafon vs. Sgt. Slaughter

Lafon is hot at the start, but Slaughter stalls to slow him down after a few punches and kicks each time. Finally Lafon unloads on Slaughter, taking it to the bigger man. Slaughter rolls out of the ring only to have Lafon follow him out and bounce his head off of the apron. Lafon works a front facelock until Slaughter backs him into a corner and begins unloading with big punches of his own. The big man works Lafon over with brawling and chinlocks, cutting Lafon off each time he tries to get to his feet. A hair pull draws the ire of the crowd and seems to fire Lafon up. Lafon gets the upper hand after standing up and ending an exchange with a big kick to the head. He goes to lock in the cobra clutch, but Slaughter is close to the ropes and grabs them tight. While referee Andre Roy is separating the two, Slaughter kicks back and up between Lafon’s legs, dropping the youngster. Roy is suspicious of Slaughter’s actions, but did not see what happened. Slaughter pulls Lafon up and locks in the cobra clutch for the win.

Sgt. Slaughter by submission with a cobra clutch 11:08

Jacques, Sr. is disgusted by the tactics Slaughter used to win the match, putting Lafon over as an up and coming star, capable of pushing the likes of Sgt. Slaughter.

Commercial Break

60:30 - 76:00

We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring with Armand Rougeau and Rene Goulet making their way down the aisle to cheers. Jacques, Sr. knows these two have a big challenge tonight, but they are up for it. The Quebec TV Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors, with Lou Albano, emerge from the curtain to big boos. Jacques, Sr. is not fond of the things the Terrors are willing to do, but they are a dominant tag team.

Armand Rougeau & Rene Goulet vs. Quebec TV Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors in a title match (15 minute Time Limit)

Armand is on fire at the beginning of the match, keeping John off-balance with a mix of brawling and speed. It takes the better part of three minutes of quick tags by Goulet and Rougeau to finally take the big man off his feet. The faces work on the left leg of Tonga John, but King Tonga is soon in to equalize things and stomps on Goulet. The Terrors work Goulet over with their brawling tactics and King Tonga’s martial arts strikes, as well as nerve holds. Goulet tries struggling out of a King Tonga nerve hold only for John to come in and stomp him in the face to put Goulet right back on the mat. The two Tongans tag and Goulet makes it to a neutral corner after several Tonga John chops. King Tonga is in illegally to double team him, but referee Pierre Bertrand is busy putting Armand back on the apron. Goulet crawls through King Tonga’s legs and makes the tag to Rougeau, but Bertrand was distracted by Albano jumping on the apron and didn’t see the tag. Goulet rolls up Tonga John with a schoolboy, positioning himself between John and Armand so he is propelled into his partner when John kicks out. Armand comes charging in with punches and staggers John back to the heel corner. King Tonga comes in and runs into a barrage of Rougeau punches. King reverses a whip into the corner, but Armand hops onto the second turnbuckle and jumps off with a back elbow. Armand gets a two and King Tonga looks very angry. Armand runs right into a big savate kick and Tonga follows that up with a HUGE elbow drop after hitting the ropes. The King hits a thumb spike on Armand for the three.

King Tonga over Armand Rougeau with a thumb spike 13:41

Jacques, Sr. is pleased with his son’s efforts in the match as well as Goulet’s. They were overmatched by the big Tongans but fought valiantly. The Quebec Tornado match is up next!

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

76:00 - 93:00

Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson are heading to the ring as we return from commercial to boos, with some cheers still. Jacques, Sr. runs down the feud between Lefebvre & Poisson and the Invaders as well as the problems Lefebvre and Poisson have been having recently. The Invaders come out to a big pop, playing to the crowd. They get serious as they get closer to the ring, focusing on Lefebvre & Poisson. Jacques, Sr. puts the Invaders over as a double tough, extremely capable tag team that have done well for themselves in Quebec. Tonight is their last night in the area and he hopes it ends well for the Invaders.

The Invaders vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson in a Quebec Tornado match

There are no rules in this match and both teams take advantage early. All four men are brawling around ringside and in the ring. Chairs, the ringposts and the announce tables are all in play throughout the match. Head referee Adrian Desbois is only there to make counts or check for submissions and he doesn’t get many opportunities as these two teams hate each other enough to just lay into each other for most of the match. All four men end up bloody and both the Invaders masks are ripped by halfway through the match. By the time we reach the finish Invader 3’s mask barely stays on his head. Poisson has 3 in a bearhug, but an Invader 1 dropkick sends both toppling out of the ring. Lefebvre blindsides Invader 1 and sends him off the ropes, only for Invader 1 to hit a running crossbody. He doesn’t go for the pin, instead punching away at Lefebvre’s bloody forehead repeatedly. Lefebvre staggers to his feet after Invader 1 stops, only for the Puerto Rican to hit him with a heart punch that gets the three count.

Invader 1 by pinfall after a heart punch on Lefebvre 14:12

Jacques, Sr. is happy to see the Invaders leave on a high note. He signs off as Lefebvre and Poisson appear to get into another argument after the match. Remember to tune in next week when the Can Am express challenge the Tongan Terrors for the TV titles!

Nice rebuilding effort of some of the guys who lost on the big October 1st show like The Can-Ams and Louis Laurence. I continue to be a big Goldie Rogers fan and really like what you're doing with him here.

Seemed like a bit more action in that Dave Kocken vs. Steve Regal match than was realistic for a Mr. Electricity performance ;)

Darn those TV time limits.

Dino Bravo interacting with Condrey & Rose would have been some fun stuff, Bravo is really under rated due to most people only having seen him in the WWF.

Who are the Sailor Whites?

Still digging the feud between Louis Laurence and Richard Charland despite the fact I couldn't pick either of them out of a lineup.

TV definitely picked up on the episode from the 11th with two big matches in the Coward's Way Out match and the Tornado Tag, Sgt Slaughter vs. Lafon and a Jake Roberts debut.

Quite the debut for Jake there I liked the way you wrote that match.

Coward's Way Out match was really good and definitely shined up Dave Kochen nicely.

Lafon got to look really good against Slaughter despite going down in defeat to the cobra clutch.

Surprised that The Invaders got to leave the area as winners and especially that a turn didn't happen after the match but you're going for a much more slow burn approach than my stuff in Southwest.

International Wrestling November 18th, 1983 (Taped November 16th, 1983, Colisée de Rimouski, Rimouski, QC) 4,900 fans

Opening Match

0:00 - 10:30

The opening montage leads to a shot of the ring with Jacques, Sr. welcoming the fans to another great evening of International Wrestling. Tony Ricco exits the curtain to cheers and he plays to the fans on his way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. wants Louis Laurence to take the Quebec Heavyweight title from Richard Charland, but wouldn’t mind seeing Ricco do the same thing tonight. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland comes out to a lot of boos. Jacques, Sr. Is sure that Charland will lose his title soon because he is an undeserving champion.

Tony Ricco vs. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland in a title match

Charland starts cheating early, going right to the eyes on a lockup followed by a flurry of right hands. Ricco comes firing back with right hands and a few boots to the stomach. Ricco controls the match for a while, focusing heavily on Charland’s ribs. Charland escapes to the outside and leads Ricco on a chase around the ring before stomping on the challenger as he tries following him into the ring. Charland works a chinlock, cheating to keep Ricco grounded whenever he starts getting to his feet. Ricco makes a big comeback and hits a dropkick that sends Charland out of the ring. Referee Andre Roy is trying to get Charland back into the ring when Dan Johnson comes out of the back and drops Ricco throat-first over the top rope after jumping on the apron. Roy is quick to toss Johnson, but Charland picks Ricco up and hits a piledriver to get the three.

Richard Charland by pinfall after a piledriver to retain 8:36

Johnson starts back towards the ring after Roy starts the count. Charland and Johnson start in on Ricco only to scatter when Louis Laurence charges the ring. Jacques, Sr. cannot believe that Charland will resort to such tactics to keep the belt. He is glad that Laurence was quick to hit the ring, minimizing the damage done by Johnson and Charland. Jacques, Sr. runs down the rest of the card before we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

10:30 - 21:30

We return from commercial to Gilles Poisson on his way to the ring, clearly not in a good mood. The crowd is booing and Jacques, Sr. wonders whether or not Poisson and Lefebvre will recover from their loss last week. Jake Roberts is next out and there are some cheers to go with the majority of boos he gets. Jacques, Sr. hopes Roberts will be a little easier to figure out this week.

Jake Roberts vs. Gilles Poisson

Roberts is slow to start the match again, avoiding locking up with the bigger Poisson. Jake stalls on the floor, further irritating the already upset Poisson. Poisson gets an advantage when Jake starts brawling with him, but Roberts suckers him into a big miss that sends him tumbling over the top rope. Poisson looks to be hurt and Roberts gives an evil grin in the ring, pointing to his own head. Jake slithers down to the floor and begins methodically working Poisson over. Poisson makes a few comebacks, but Roberts always cuts him off by going back to the knee Poisson hurt falling to the floor. Poisson gets a rush of offense, looking for in his bearhug, but Roberts brings a knee up into Poisson’s groin as referee Pierre Bertrand is unable to see. Poisson slumps forward, right into position for Jake to grab his head and hit the DDT for the three.

Jake Roberts by pinfall after a DDT 9:11

Jacques, Sr. is incensed at how Jake got Poisson in position for the DDT. Poisson has done as much, but it’s no excuse for a man who has never met poisson in the ring to use those tactics. Mad Dog Lefebvre comes out to the ring and starts arguing with a recovering Poisson as Jake leaves ringside to more boos.

Commercial Break

21:30 - 36:00

Phil Lafon and Jim Brunzell are in the ring with Jacques, Sr. when we come back from break, looking very intense.

Jacques, Sr.: Well, gentlemen, tonight is your chance to take the television titles away from the Tongan Terrors.

Brunzell: That’s exactly what we mean to do, Jacques, Sr.

Lafon: These fans deserve better TV champions than those two brutes.

Jacques, Sr.: It seems to me that you two have been the target of both Albano and his Terrors and Sergeant Slaughter since you arrived here.

Lafon: Who is to say those aren’t one and the same? Albano likes to talk about how we started this, but all we ever did was come in here and work hard night in and night out to win matches.

Brunzell: It can be looked at as a blessing in disguise, Jacques, Sr. We have come a long way in the four and a half months we’ve spent here. Part of that is all the challenges we’ve faced along the way.

Jacques, Sr.: Challenges I’m sure you two will come out on top of. The Can Am Express, ladies and gentlemen. Let’s hear it for two really deserving young men.

The crowd cheers loudly for Lafon and Brunzell as Jacques, Sr. leaves the ring. Lou Albano, a dark look on his face, leads Quebec TV Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors to the ring as the cheers turn to loud boos. Jacques, Sr. talks about how Albano has promised bad things would happen to Lafon next time he faced the Terrors.

The Can Am Express vs. Quebec TV Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors in a title match (15 minute time limit)

Brunzell and Lafon come out all guns blazing, using quick tags to take both Tongans off their feet within the first five minutes. The Tongans bring things back to even, but can never gain any extended advantage over the fired up Can Am Express. Brunzell is brawling on the outside with King Tonga when King Tonga rams his head into the ringpost twice right in front of head referee Adrian Desbois. Desbois has no choice but to disqualify the Tongans.

The Can Am Express win by disqualification 10:24

Lafon goes to Brunzell’s aid post-match, only for Tonga John to catch him from behind with big forearm clubs. At Albano’s urging the Tongans send Lafon back into the ring and start taking apart his leg. King Tonga heads to the outside, grabbing Lafon’s feet and pulling him into the corner groin-first. He wraps the young Canadian’s leg around the post several times before grabbing a chair from an unlucky fan in the front row and tossing it in to Tonga John. Tonga John proceeds to destroy Lafon’s knee with the chair as Tonga John hits a recovering but still groggy Brunzell with a huge dropkick of his own, sending him flying back into the guard rail. The King slams Brunzell’s head into the post again and pulls him up one more time for a big thumb spike. Tonga John stops whacking at Lafon’s leg and wraps the chair around the leg before stomping on it. King Tonga comes flying off the ropes with a leaping elbow drop onto the chair that has Lafon screaming in pain. Tonga John comes off the top rope with a headbutt to the chair that only makes it worse. By this time security and half the locker room have emptied into the arena and the leading edges hit the ring. Jacques, Sr. has been screaming for help since the chair came into play. We go to commercial as the Terrors are pushed out of the ring by a mob of security and wrestlers.

Commercial Break

36:00 - 47:00

Jacques, Sr. is still upset after the actions of the Tongan Terrors when we return from commercial. He knows heavy fines or more will be levied for the brutal attack on the Can Am Express. Dan Johnson comes out to some boos. Jacques, Sr. wonders if Johnson wouldn’t be better off without his partner Richard Charland. Louis Laurence comes out to a good amount of cheers. Jacques, Sr. is impressed with Laurence’s tenacity in chasing Charland and his partner Johnson despite all of the setbacks.

Louis Laurence vs. Dan Johnson

Laurence and Johnson lock up, the bigger Johnson getting the advantage. Johnson uses clubbing forearms and punches, but Laurence fires back with right hands and elbow smashes. Laurence starts working the leg after shooting in for a single leg takedown. Johnson comes back with attacks aimed at Laurence’s back and ribs, cinching in a bearhug for some time. Laurence fires up and hits a barrage of rights and elbows, capped with a dropkick. Johnson kicks out at two and holds his ground when Laurence tries to pick him up for a bodyslam. Laurence switches over to a front facelock and Johnson backs him into the ropes when he sees Regal and Charland coming out of the back. Referee Andre Roy yells at both Charland and Regal, regal leading Roy off to the side while Charland grabs a chair and swings it at Laurence’s back. Laurence avoids the shot and Johnson takes it right in the face, falling backwards. Laurence locks in a half crab, but Johnson hardly seems to notice. Roy checks in on Johnson and finds him not responsive and calls for the bell.

Louis Laurence by submission with a half crab 9:18

Jacques, Sr. explains that these are the consequences of taking shortcuts to getting the win as Laurence escapes the ring before Charland and Regal, still shocked over the result, can attack. Up next is the main event, don’t go away!

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

47:00 - 64:00

Gino Brito, Armand Rougeau & Rene Goulet come out to big cheers. They high five fans on their way to the ring as Jacques, Sr. praises them as defenders of the honor of the IWA. The cheers turn to boos as Eddie Creatchman leads Dennis Condrey (wearing his gold), Hurricane Kamiguchi & Stonehead Ishimoto to the ring. Garbage pelts Condrey and Creatchman as they walk. Creatchman gets upset, but Condrey fails to notice. Jacques, Sr. has nothing good to say about any of the three.

Gino Brito, Armand Rougeau & Rene Goulet vs. Dennis Condrey & Earth and Sky w/Eddie Creatchman

The match is an all-out brawl from the start. Head referee Adrian Desbois has his hands full keeping less than four men in the ring and his final attempt (which works) leaves Armand on the wrong side of the ring. The heels work Armand over, focusing very hevaily on his previously injured neck at the urging of Creatchman. Creatchman comes over to the announce table several times during the match to protest Condrey’s involvement in this match. Brito takes a hot tag after five cutoffs by the heels, the last inches shy of a tag. The crowd explodes as brito comes in like a house afire and destroys all opposition. Thigns break down again and it somehow ends up with Rougeau the legal man in the ring against Kamiguchi. Ishimoto hits a loaded headbutt to Goulet on the outside and breaks up an Armand sleeper in the ring before hitting a loaded headbutt on Rougeau. Brito and Condrey are involved in an intense brawl on the outside as Kamiguchi hits the blockbuster on Armand and covers for the three.

Hurricane Kamiguchi by pinfall over Armand Rougeau after a blockbuster 15:32

Jacques, Sr. is going crazy on commentary as Brito hits the ring and clears out both members of Earth & Sky after he realizes what happened. The heels celebrate as they make their way to the back, more garbage coming their way. Armand recovers and gets back to his feet without help, drawing a huge sigh of relief from Jacques, Sr. and big cheers from the crowd. Jacques reminds the fans that Dino Bravo will be back next week, so be sure to tune in before signing off.

International Wrestling November 25th, 183 (Taped November 23rd, 1983, Colisée de Trois-Rivieres, Trois-Rivieres, QC) 3500 fans, sellout

Opening Interview/Matches

0:00 - 10:30

The opening montage leads to a shot of Dave Kochen in the ring with Jacques, Sr. Kochen is clearly feeling the effects of the beating he received at the hands of Goldie Rogers two weeks ago.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Kochen it is good to see you again. Two weeks ago you had an absolute war with Goldie Rogers and we haven’t seen either of you since.

Kochen: It was a Hell of a match, Jacques, Sr. He put as good a beating on me as I’ve ever taken, but I never gave up.

Jacques, Sr.: It seems to me you had a plan going into that match.

Kochen: Yeah, Rogers is always so concerned about his face and his hair. He thinks he’s some kind of ladies’ man. I thought if I could bust him open, he’d think better of it.

Jacques, Sr.: And it worked out that you were right. Let’s hope that Rogers doesn’t hold a grudge for very long. He’s a man with quite a vicious streak.

Kochen: That much I know, Jacques, Sr. But I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of him for a while. When a man runs away from a match in front of that big of a crowd, not to mention the TV audience, he’s not going to show his face for a while.

Jacques, Sr.: I can only hope you’re right, Mr. Kochen. Dave Kochen, ladies and gentlemen. Let’s hear it for a double tough young man who made good!

The crowd cheers big for Kochen as Jacques, Sr. exits the ring and heads to the announce table. Tim Gerrard comes out to almost no reaction at all.

Dave Kochen vs. Tim Gerrard

Kochen takes the majority of the match, working over the ribs of Gerrard. Marcus makes a short comeback, catching Kochen with a rollup for a two. Kochen took control again, hit a vertical suplex and put Gerrard in an abdominal stretch for the victory.

Dave Kochen by submission with an abdominal stretch 4:15

Jacques, Sr. Calls that an impressive victory for an impressive young man as Kochen has a short celebration in the ring. The camera cuts to Jacques, Sr. and he talks about the rest of the card. Dino Bravo will be in a big 8 man tag in the main event! Back in the ring, Steve Regal awaits his opponent and it is the debuting Brad Rheingans. Kochen and Rhengans pass one another in the entrance aisle and Kochen stops just short of the curtain to watch the match. Rheingans gets very little reaction from the crowd. Jacques, Sr. puts Rheingans over as an Olympic level amateur wrestler.

Brad Rheingans vs. Steve Regal

Rheingans shows off his amateur skills in controlling the match early. Regal is able to get in some offense by cheating, but Rheingans is simply too much for him. Rheingans finishes Regal off with a belly to belly suplex with a lot of snap.

Brad Rheingans by pinfall after a belly to belly suplex 4:07

Kochen, still in the entrance aisle, applauds the efforts of Rheingans. Jacques, Sr. is impressed with the young man’s skill in the ring.

Commercial Break

10:30 - 20:00

We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring with Mike Sharpe entering the arena. He gets a small reaction and Jacques, Sr. is impressed with the man’s conditioning & physique. Joel Deaton comes out to some boos and ignores the fans. Jacques, Sr. isn’t sure the big boot Deaton has been using to knock people out around Quebec is entirely legal.

Mike Sharpe vs. Joel Deaton

The two big men (280 and 290) lock up and attempt to use their strength to overwhelm one another. Sharpe takes the first advantage, working over Deaton’s arm for a while. Deaton comes back, attacking Sharpe’s neck with holds and brawling. Sharpe appears to be getting the advantage back when he runs into a Deaton big boot and goes down hard. Deaton covers for the three.

Joel Deaton by pinfall after a big boot 7:31

Sharpe is still out when Deaton has exited ringside to the back and Jacques, Sr. has to believe that Deaton has something in that boot.

Commercial Break

20:00 - 31:00

Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland & Dan Johnson are making their way to the ring as the crowd boos when we return from commercial. Jacques, Sr. is sick of seeing Charland with the belt. Louis Laurence and Tony Ricco come out of the back to cheers, playing to the fans as they walk to the ring. Jacques, Sr. talks about how both men have come close to taking that title away from Charland. Predictably, Charland and Johnson attack pre-match but the faces turn it around on them quickly.

Louis Laurence & Tony Ricco vs. Quebec Heavyweight Champion Richard Charland & Dan Johnson

Referee Pierre Bertrand has his hands full getting things settled down, but manages to get it down to Ricco and Johnson in the ring, Ricco taking it to Johnson with right hands and tagging to Laurence. Johnson fights back, but the faces use quick tags to keep control until Charland cheapshots Ricco, giving Johnson the chance to tag out. Charland and Johnson work on Ricco’s neck with headlocks, Charland often cheating to keep Ricco from getting any kind of momentum built up for a comeback. Ricco crawls between Johnson’s legs and tags Laurence, but Charland has Bertrand distracted and he doesn’t see the tag. Laurence finally takes the hot tag and runs over both Charland and Johnson. Laurence knocks Johnson off the apron a second time, but Charland uses that distraction to get behind Laurence and roll him backwards into a pinning combination and grabs two handfuls of tights for the three.

Richard Charland by pinfall over Laurence with an O’Connor roll with two handfuls of tights 9:22

Laurence is furious, but Charland rolls out of the ring, grabs his belt and retreats up the aisle quickly with Johnson, taunting Laurence as the crowd boos. Jacques, Sr. can’t hide his disgust with Charland and his underhanded tactics.

Commercial Break

31:00 - 48:00

Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson are on their way to the ring when we come back from commercial. Neither seems very happy and the boos from the crowd don’t help. Jacques, Sr. talks about how both have been upset with the other for taking pinfall losses lately. Lefebvre had asked for this match as a last chance for Poisson to prove to him that he was a good partner. Quebec TV Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors come out with Lou Albano to near-deafening boos. Albano and his charges soak in the boos, Albano getting pelted with garbage just after reaching ringside. Jacques, Sr. isn’t sure this is the team for Lefebvre & Poisson to regain their momentum against, given their recent history. Lafebvre and Poisson attack the two tongans on their way into the ring.

Quebec TV Tag Team Champions The Tongan Terrors vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson in a title match (15 minute time limit)

The attack only seems to enrage the Tongans, but Lefebvre and Poisson fight like men possessed. Lefebvre and Tonga John are both busted open halfway through the match. Head referee Adrian Desbois has stretches of several minutes where he can keep two wrestlers in the ring, but the match always breaks down sooner rather than later. Lefebvre and Tonga John spill outside, leaving Poisson and King Tonga in the ring. Poisson grabs the King for a bearhug after clothesline, but the Tongan wrestler jambs his thumb into the side of Poisson’s neck, hitting a nerve. King Tonga covers for a three count.

King Tonga by pinfall over Poisson with a thumb spike 13:52

Lefebvre, realizing what happened, slides into the ring and gets in Poisson’s face. Poisson shoves him and Lefebvre comes back with a right hand to his partner. Albano pulls his charges back, glaring at the area of the crowd where he was pelted with garbage from earlier. Poisson and Lefebvre brawl to the floor, Lefebvre bouncing Poisson’s head of of the ringpost and straddling him, raining down punches. Security and half the locker room rush ringside just after Poisson reverses positions and starts punching down on Lefebvre. Albano sees his opportunity and orders the Terrors into the crowd he had been eyeing earlier. King Tonga and Tonga John grab chairs and menace the people in the crowd, even swinging wildly at a few of the bigger men in the crowd. The 280 pound Poisson is finally pulled off of Lefebvre, both bloody and half of the men who came out to ringside run over to contain the Tongan Terrors in the crowd. Albano is in the ring with a mic.

Albano: Last week we showed anyone who cares to watch what happens when you make us angry. Frank Valois hit us with a huge fine, but do you think we care? We’re the TV champions! These men you see out at ringside are doing well despite Frank Valois’ efforts to make our lives miserable. In fact, I think they’re having as much fun as they ever do in the ring right now. Let’s hear it for your TV champions!

Most of the crowd boos, those that aren’t fleeing from the chairs swinging wildly back and forth as the Terrors hold off the security force. Lefebvre and Poisson have been separated and are being escorted to the back as more security makes it’s way to the Tongans. Jacques, Sr. can’t believe the pandemonium and hopes things will be cleared up when we return from commercial.

Commercial Break

48:00 - 50:00

Jacques, Sr. is in the backstage interview area flanked by Poisson and Lefebvre, each with three members of security around to keep them from fighting. By the looks of both that is a necessary precaution.

Jacques, Sr.: Welcome back fans, we are still trying to get ringside cleared up and want to take this time to speak with Gilles Poisson and Mad Dog Lefebvre. Gentlemen, you two have been tag team partners for some time. It seems like that has come to an end.

Poisson: It didn’t have to go this way, Pierre. But you just couldn’t let go of whatever got into you after the Vachon match.

Lefebvre: What got into me?? Nothing got into me, old man. You have been dragging me down since we started teaming and it took that match to make me see it!

Poisson: Dragged you down!? I watched your back. I helped you win matches! You ungrateful little-

The two nearly come to blows but are pulled back by security.

Poisson: We are done!

Lefebvre: Damn right we are! I’m going to find a real tag partner! When I have one of those Canadian International Tag Team belts around my waist everyone will know that you held me back for too long!

Lefebvre stomps off angrily, pushing the security personnel aside. The six men stay off to one side now.

Jacques, Sr.: That could have gone better, Gilles, but this seems like it has been coming for some time.

Poisson; I don’t know what got into him, Jacques. Things were-

Poisson is hit from behind as Lefebvre flies back into the shot. Lefebvre starts beating down on Poisson, but the big man stands up and starts brawling with Lefebvre. Security, recovering from the initial shock, rush in and break it up.

Jacques, Sr.: Fans, we have certainly had a wild show tonight and it doesn’t look to be getting any better. Up next we have our main event, an eight man tag featuring Dino Bravo, Gino Brito and the Midnight Express!

Commercial Break & Upcoming Events

50:00 - 65:00

The teams of Dino Bravo, Gino Brito, Tony Parisi & Armand Rougeau and Canadian International Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express & Earth and Sky are in the ring when we come back from commercial. Creatchman is at ringside yelling at Jacques, Sr. about his champions again wrestling on television.

Dino Bravo, Gino Brito, Tony Parisi & Armand Rougeau vs. Canadian International Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express & Earth and Sky

The brawl is on early as Bravo and Brito go right at the Midnight Express. Referee Pierre Bertrand cannot get things settled down as Parisi and Rougeau brawl with Earth and Sky on the floor. Bravo isolates Rose after a short while and the faces use quick tags to work him over. Brito’s aggression gets the better of him and he winds up chasing Rose right into a 3 on one attack in the heel corner. Brito is the victim of a beatdown by all four of Creatchman’s charges. He tries punching his way out of trouble only for Kamiguchi to dropkick him in the back after coming into the ring to cut him off. Kamiguchi ends up eating Brito’s right hands as well, but Condrey grabs him by the tights just in time to stop a tag. Brito finally makes the tag to Armand, who comes in and lays into the entire heel team with right hands. Kamiguchi distracts Rougeau long enough for Ishimoto to hit a loaded headbutt, but Bravo is quick to break up the pin attempt. Armand takes a big beating from the heels, focused mainly on his neck. He gets cut off multiple times before tagging in Bravo. The crowd erupts as Bravo comes in and destroys everything in front of him. Brito and Parisi attack Condrey and Ishimoto on the floor while Bravo uses the airplane spin on Kamiguchi. Kamiguchi rolls to the floor after being dumped by Bravo and Armand flies in with a dropkick to Rose’s back as he is close to blindsiding Bravo. Rougeau turns Rose over and starts raining punches down on his face. Bertrand forces Armand out of the ring, but the youngster climbs up to the top rope from the apron and comes flying off with a fist drop as Bravo urges hmi on and gets the crowd behind him. Bravo picks up Rose for an airplane spin, getting the three after letting him hit the mat.

Jacques, Sr. is ecstatic on commentary, calling this a major victory for the IWA over Creatchman and his group. Remember to tune in next week when Brito & Parisi and the Midnight Express face off in a six man tag!
