The first few topics here will be re-posts. I'm going to keep my TV results in one thread and house show results in the other.

7/2/83 at the Montreal Forum (14,500)

The show opened with Jacques Rougeau, Sr. explaining that King Tonga and Tonga John would not be participating in the tournament based on their actions towards Jim Brunzell. "That kind of behavior will not be tolerated in the International Wrestling Association," warned Rougeau.

Jim Brunzell/Phil Lafon over Sgt. Slaughter/Mad Dog Lefebvre by DQ 11:14

Brunzell and Lafon started hot, but the veteran Slaughter took the advantage after going to the eyes and booting Lafon in the stomach several times. Lafon got worked over for a while, with Slaughter several times taking shortcuts to keep the advantage. The tag to Brunzell got a good reaction and he cleaned house on both of his opponents. A Brunzell dropkick to Lefebvre looked like Slaughter was too far away to make the save, but Slaughter kicked the ref in the head instead. Post-match the heels continued the assault and Slaughter produced a pair of brass knuckles that he bloodied Lafon with.

The Midnight Express over Armand Rougeau/Rene Goulet by pinfall 10:26

Prior to the match Eddie Creatchman walked out to the ring and addressed the crowd.

"The fans here in Montreal make me sick. They cheer Gino Brito and the Rougeaus. There's a reason Brito and the Rougeaus stay here. Nobody else wants them. They get by on their names around here andthat has to end. A couple of guys backstage had never heard of the Rougeaus or Brito before and I had a long conversation with them. We agreed that tonight, if nobody beat us to it, we would expose the Rougeaus and Brito for what they truly are."

The Midnight Express walked out to the ring and shook hands with Creatchman, already getting a lot of boos from the crowd. Armand and Goulet came out to big cheers. Armand was fired up and got the better of Rose for a very short time, mostly with right hands. Rose reversed a corner whip and hit a running back elbow into the corner. The Midnights worked the youngest Rougeau over, trying to goad Goulet into helping. The longtime veteran held his ground and patiently waited for his young teammate to make the tag, all the while urging Armand on. The tag came and it looked like Rougeau and Goulet were close to a submission victory on Condrey with an Armand sleeper, but Rose broke that up and cleared Goulet out of the ring, allowing Condrey to finish Armand with a full nelson facebuster.

The British Bulldogs over The Cuban Assassins by pinfall 11:48

The Bulldogs were clearly the fan favorites early and used their cutting edge style to great effect. The Assassins stalled several times, irritating the crowd. Davey fell victim to a double team in a neutral corner that set up the Assassins for a lengthy beatdown, mostly hair-pulling, eye gouging, tights-grabbing, choking and illegal double teams. Dynamite was hot on the apron, which caused several lengthy distractions the Assassins took full advantage of. Davey finally came back, catching Starr in a big overhead press slam and tagged Dynamite. Dynamite cleaned house and the Bulldogs unleashed double teams on both of their opponents much to the crowd's delight. The Assassins weren't done yet, the Cuban Assassin rolling Dynamite up and putting his feet on the ropes for leverage for a very close two count with Davey making the save. Davey tossed Dynamite into a body press of the top on Starr for the win.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers over Gino Brito/Tony Parisi by submission 13:38

The match was a very even, technical affair. Brito and the Rougeaus were evenly matched, with Parisi often the victim of short quick-tag sequences by the Rougeaus. The mat wrestling worked into a few slams and suplexes before the Rougeaus isolated Parisi, hit a double suplex off the second rope and Jacques applied the Quebec crab for the win.

The Midnight Express (with Eddie Creatchman) over Lafon/Brunzell by pinfall 9:25

Before the match, Creatchman talked in the ring about how the Midnights had already beaten one of the Rougeaus and the other two would be next. Lafon and Brunzell, visibly upset at being overlooked, attacked the Midnights before the bell to a big pop. The Midnights made several attempts at attacking Lafon's cut before Rose grabbed an armbar, put Lafon on the mat and started punching his forehead. Lafon took a quick but brutal beating before landing a big spinkick and tagging Brunzell. Brunzell held off the Midnights for a while, but Lafon was unable to help and the tide turned. Condrey set Rose up for a second rope powerslam to get the three.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers over the British Bulldogs by pinfall 10:10

The match was back and forth action all the way through, with Jacques showing his athleticism and both teams busting out double teams when they were in control. Davey Boy hit a running powerslam on Jacques only to have Raymond break it up just before Dynamite could stop him. Jacques reversed a rollup (the third in sequence) to pin Dynamite.

Rick Martel over Dino Bravo to retain the NWA Canadian Heavyweight Championship by pinfall 26:04

Martel and Bravo were both greeted with loud cheers and fought over basic holds in the early going. Bravo finally got control and began working over Martel's back. Martel countered by going after Bravo's arm and working on it for a long while. Things got a little heated when Martel didn't break for the ropes until the referee's three count and right hands started flying. A dropkick by Martel sent Bravo to the floor. Bravo fought his way out of an attempted suplex into the ring by Martel and dragged Martel to the floor in what almost turned into a double countout. Back in the ring Bravo hit a drokick and got a few close nearfalls on Martel before the champ started focusing on his back. Bravo had the airplane spin on Martel, but the champ was just close enough to grab the ropes. Bravo made it to the ropes on the Quebec crab and it looked like a stalemate. Bravo looked for a belly to back suplex, but Martel went behind and rolled Bravo up when the challenger went to the ropes, bridging back for the three. The two shook hands post-match and Martel celebrated with his NWA Canadian title.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers over the Midnight Express (with Eddie Creatchman) by pinfall to win the Canadian International Tag Team Titles 9:46

Creatchman and the Midnights came out first, Creatchman predicting the fall of the Rougeau dynasty. The Rougeaus rushed the ring and a two on two brawl started the match. Things settled down and the Rougeaus got the better of Condrey for a while. Raymond got caught with a few Condrey right hands and seemed ripe for the picking. Rose hit a second rope powerslam that Condrey followed with a big running leg drop, but Jacques interrupted the pinfall attempt. Raymond had to battle his way through Condrey and Rose with right hands to tag in Jacques, who came in on fire. Jacques cleared Rose out of the ring and the Rougeaus double teamed Condrey. Rose was sent right back off the apron when he tried to get back in the fray. Raymond locked in a Quebec crab as the illegal man and Jacques climbed to the top rope and came crashing down with a knee drop to Condrey's back to put the Midnights away. Creatchman was fuming mad post-match, screaming at the ref about the double teaming done by the Rougeaus. The Rougeaus, meanwhile, were displaying their new hardware to the appreciation of 14,000+ fans.

International Wrestling 7/8/83 (taped 7/6/83 in the Paul Suave Arena, Montreal, Quebec)

Opening/1st match (0:00 - 10:00)

The show opens with a montage of the Rougeaus, Brito/Parisi, Armand Rougeau, Gilles Poisson, Mad Dog Lefebvre, Louis Laurence and Richard Charland followed by the International Wrestling Association logo before cutting to Jacques Rougeau, Sr. in the ring.

Jacques, Sr.: Welcome fans to International Wrestling on Friday Night. We have a great show for you tonight that features some of the new faces you'll be seeing plenty of over the next few months-

Rougeau is cut off by a very loud round of boos from the fans and turns to the entranceway. Captain Lou Albano, Tonga John (in plain short tights with no boots or pads) and King Tonga (in loos long pants with no boots or pads) come to the ring with a few pieces of garbage thrown their way. Rougeau waits patiently for the trio to enter the ring before addressing Albano.

Jacques, Sr.: It doesn't seem like the fans here in the Paul Suave Arena are very happy to see you and your charges, Mr. Albano.

Albano: Good for them. Let me tell you a story, Rougeau. I came in here and the first two people I met were two poor Tongan wrestlers who had been denied a chance to prove themselves by Frank Valois and his goons for no good rea-

Jacques, Sr.:They beat up a man for no-

Albano snatches the microphone from Rougeau.

Albano: These two men have beat up a lot of people, Rougeau. And if you interrupt me again they are gonna add one more to that number. These men deserved a chance at those titles and now they feel wronged. These men, no, not men. These are monsters. It didn't have to be this way, but nothing can change that now. These monsters are going to show you, Frank Valois, the fans and the other wrestlers that they will not be denied a chance at gold. The man who is responsible for this is not here tonight and that's a shame. Now everyone has to pay. Every action has consequences and Frank Valois will see tonight the consequences of his actions last Saturday.

Bobby and Rudy Kay emerge from the back as Albano exits the ring and the Tongan wrestlers proceed to attack them before they even start entering the ring.

King Tonga/Tonga John against Bobby & Rudy Kay

The Tongan wrestlers dominate this from the start to finish, King Tonga showing off his kicks and headbutts before Bobby Kay walks into a savate kick from King Tonga. Tonga John climbs the top rope and hits a diving headbutt to put Kay away. The Tongans continue the assault, clubbering and stomping both of their fallen foes until the commercial break.

King Tonga/Tonga John by pinfall with a combination savate kick/diving headbutt 4:19

Commercial Break

(10:00 - 20:00)

The Tongan wrestlers are being dragged from ringside by several security officers, referees and wrestlers from the back. They make several attempts to get back to the ring only to be driven back by superior numbers. Randy Rose makes his way to the ring to loud boos. Tim Gerrard gets little to no reaction, but some of the crowd seem to want to cheer him.

Randy Rose vs. Tim Gerrard

Rose dominated from the get-go, but Gerrard got in a quick comeback before Rose hit a side suplex after several punches. Rose locked in a crab, but the plucky Gerrard made the ropes. Rose had enough and picked Gerrard up before climbing to the second turnbuckle and hitting a powerslam for the win.

Rose over Gerrard by pinfall with a second rope powerslam at 5:48

Rose was out of the ring quickly following his victory, leaving only the battered Gerrard to get beaten by King Tonga and Tonga John as they crashed the ring, Albano pointing at the downed Gerrard. Gerrards brother and tag partner Alex came out for the save but is immediately overwhelmed. The scene going to commercial break #2 is very similar to the first.

Commercial Break

(20:00 - 36:30)

The Tongans were once again being herded to the back with no sign of Albano. The camera cuts to Albano in the back with a microphone in the backstage interview area.

Albano: I told you these men are monsters. Not just monsters, terrors! Nobody in the arena is safe!

The scuffle of King Tonga and Tonga John being escorted to the back breaks into the shot. Albano says a few words to his wrestlers and they stop fighting to get back to the ring. The assorted personnel wrestling the Tongans away from the ring warily back away before returning to whatever they were doing.

Albano: Frank Valois will regret the day he decided to leave my terrors out of the tag tournament. I give to you, ladies and gentlemen, the future Canadian International Tag Team champs, the Tongan Terrors! You will be afraid of them, I can guarantee you that. These monsters are large, strong, agile, ANGRY men who want nothing more than what they deserve. They will get it.

The camera cuts back to the ring after Albano and the newly named Tongan Terrors walk away. All three Rougeau brothers walk to the ring to massive cheers from the crowd. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson and Richard Charland emerge as their opponents to boos.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson & Richard Charland

The Rougeaus were able to dominate the early going much to the crowd's delight. Poisson used a handful of Armand Rougeau's hair off of a rope break to bludgeon the least experienced Rougeau with a few big forearms. The heels worked Armand over until he fired up and overcame Charland with rapid fire right hands. Raymond took the hot tag and cleaned house before getting in an intense brawl with Lefebvre. The Rugeaus looked ready to put the match away when the Tongan terrors again hit the ring, Albano pointing out Armand Rougeau and Charland as targets. This time they were driven back after the initial surprise as all six men in the ring banded together to clear them out.

No Contest due to interference at 12:25

Albano and the Tongan Terrors are in the interview area in back when we return from break.

Albano: You can't say I didn't warn you. I told you everyone was gonna pay and they have. I also told you that these guys are monsters and they are. Not only that, they are MY monsters. When I tell them to destroy someone, they do it. When I tell them to stop, they stop. That means you won't be seeing a whole lot out of anyone besides my monsters, because I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. You may as well get used to this fans, because I can guarantee you'll be seeing a lot of it. Jim Brunzell is not here tonight, but I can be patient when I need to be. Next week we get our hands on Brunzell and he pays very personally for what he did!

Dennis Condrey comes to the ring greeted by heavy boos from the fans. Gino Brito gets a really big pop and the crowd is buzzing for the main event.

Dennis Condrey vs. Gino Brito

The match started out with Brito working over an arm and Condrey coming back with a mixture of brawling and headlocks and chinlocks. Brito started brawling as well, uncorking big right hands. Condrey came back with more brawling, but Brito will not to be denied. Brito gets a few nearfalls before Condrey ducks a right hand and hits a back elbow that staggers Brito into the corner. Right hands by Condrey leave Brito in bad shape and Condrey drapes him over the middle rope, bounces off the far ropes and sits down across his upper back. A clothesline in the center of the ring by Condrey sets him up for a big running leg drop that nearly put Brito away. The crowd give Brito and Condrey plenty of notice that the Tongan Terrors were coming and Condrey bailed. Brito iss waiting on the Tongans to attack when Condrey slides into the ring from behind and nails him with a few forearms to the back before hitting a full nelson facebuster. Condrey again bailed and left ringside as Albano signals to the Terrors it was time to attack. The Tongans go to work on Brito, which brings out his tag partner Tony Parisi. Parisi has some success, but it is short lived as King Tonga caught him with a savate kick while he was focused on Tonga John. The Tongans continue their assault while the fans throw garbage into the ring at them. The Rougeaus sprint down to ringside and chase the Tongans off to end the show.

Gino Brito wins by DQ when the Tongan terrors interfere at 17:22

International Wrestling 7/15/83 (taped 7/13/83 in the Paul Sauve Arena, Montreal, Quebec) 3,200 fans

0 - 14:30
Opening/1st Match

The opening montage leads once again to Jacques, Rougeau, Sr. This time he is in the backstage interview area in front of the International Wrestling Association banner. Captain Lou Albano, looking very unhappy, shuffles into frame with no Tongan terrors in tow.

Rougeau, Sr.: Mr. Albano, how do you feel about the decision handed down by none other than Frank Valois himself that the Tongan Terrors were banned from the arena for tonight’s show?

Albano: How do you think I feel about it, Rougeau? This is a travesty and exactly the kind of thing that caused what happened last week. My monsters are very passionate men and their anger got the better of them. What do you think-

Rougeau, Sr.: Excuse me, Mr. Albano, but you were the one who was directing traffic last week.

Albano: I thought I told you never to interrupt me, Rougeau!

Rougeau, Sr.: I wrestled for many years, Mr. Albano. If you think you are going to intimidate me you are dead wrong.

Albano: I’m sorry, I was out of line. As I was saying, my monsters are very passionate and difficult to control. You can’t expect me to be able to keep this kind of thing from happening.

Rougeau, Sr.: I expected this kind of response from you and had a video montage of last week prepared.

Clips of Albano ordering the Tongan Terrors to attack other wrestlers are shown followed by Albano’s comments to the effect that they are his monsters and he controls them. The camera cuts back to Albano, looking both enraged and a little scared with Jacques, Sr.

Albano: I was a little angry myself. I can promise you that we will never disrupt an entire show like that again. We’ve learned our lesson Mr. Rougeau.

Rougeau, Sr.: I’d like to say I believe you, Mr. Albano, but-

Albano snatches the microphone from Rougeau.

Albano: And I’d like to tell everyone watching that Jim Brunzell has NOT gotten any kind of reprieve. He will pay next week for causing all of this!

Albano tosses the microphone at Rougeau’s feet and glares at the retired wrestler before stalking away. The camera cuts to the ring as Tony Ricco comes out to a mild reaction. Richard Charland is booed, but not overly loudly.

Tony Ricco vs. Richard Charland

Ricco and Charland feel each other out with basic exchanges, Ricco getting the better of things and working an arm. Charland goes to the hair several times before raking the eyes to take control. Charland cuts off Ricco comebacks with eye gouges before getting cocky and slapping Ricco around. Ricco fires up and makes a comeback, but Dan Johnson runs out to ringside. Referee Adrian Desbois turns his attention to clearing Johnson away from ringside, allowing Charland to hit a low blow. Charland’s piledriver finisher is enough to get the three count.

Richard Charland over Tony Ricco by pinfall with a piledriver 9:28

Jacques Rougeau, Sr. Talks about the next match before the commercial break.

Commercial Break

(14:30 - 27:30)

Mad Dog Lefebvre is approaching the ring to boos when we come back from commercial. Armand Rougeaus gets a very good reaction from the crowd as he heads to the ring. Lefebvre ambushes Rougeau as he enters the ring and the match is off to a hot start!

Armand Rougeau vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre

Armand was taking the worst of it at first, but he fired up and came back strong with right hands. A crossbody put Armand firmly in charge and he hammered away with right hands. Lefebvre went to the floor for a break, but Armand followed him out. Lefebvre reversed a whip into the rail as they brawled around ringside and started pounding away on Armand again. The two fought tooth and nail, but Lefebvre eventually gained enough of an advantage to set Rougeau up for his second rope superplex. Armand recovered and hit a few short punches to the face to send Lefebvre stumbling down to the mat. Rougeau lept off the top into a sunset flip for the three.

Jacques Rougeau, Sr. talks about the final two matches on the card before the break.

he card tonight before the break.Jacques and Raymond Rougeau come out to a tremendous reaction. Jim Brunzell and Phil Lafon come to the ring and get a lot of cheers, especially after the Rougeaus start clapping and encouraging the fans to do the same.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers vs. Jim Brunzell and Phil Lafon

Both teams came out fast and furious, working to find an advantage. After a lot of fast chain wrestling and counters the Rougeaus were able to work on Lafon for a while, but the youngster was able to kick his way out of trouble and tag Brunzell. More furious back and forth action followed. Eventually the Rougeaus wore down both Lafon and Brunzell enough to set up a Raymond sleeper on Lafon. Lafon just barely made the ropes and Raymond set Lafon up in a Quebec crab after tagging in Jacques. Jacques flew off the top with a knee drop and covered for the three while Raymond held off Brunzell. After the match the Rougeaus shook hands with Brunzell and Lafon before holding up the arms of the defeated tag team.

(42:30 - 45:30)

Jacques, Sr. is in the interview area as Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express casually stroll in. The Midnights look ready for action.

Jacques, Sr.: Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express, you were the only ones not victims of the brutal attack by the Tongan terrors last week. How do we know you weren’t in on it?

Creatchman: You never did like me, Rougeau. You think I had anything to do with that? Of course you do. Anyone with half a brain knows that we were not involved.

Jacques, Sr.: I don’t believe that for a second, Eddie Creatchman. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. You said that you had something to say regarding my boys?

Creatchman: I do and I would appreciate you not taking up my time with your conspiracy theories in the future. You see, these men came within a hair’s breadth of being the Canadian International Tag Team champs a few weeks ago and there’s another big show coming up on the 30th in the Montreal Forum. It is our considered opinion that we are the natural challengers for the titles.

Jacques, Sr.: I think you may be the only three men who have that opinion. Regardless that’s up to Frank Valois to decide.

Creatchman: You would think like that, Rougeau. But we will prove that we are the number one contenders. You give us any tag team besides the Rougeaus and we will make good. So why don’t you just slink back to-

Creatchman is cut off by the appearance of Gino Brito and Tony Parisi, also in their ring gear. Brito walks over to Rougeau, Sr. and a standoff between the two tag teams ensues.

Jacques, Sr.: We will not have a brawl here, gentlemen. You will keep your tempers.

Brito: We have a match whenever Creatchman gets done talking. The Midnight Express lost their match for the titles, now it’s our turn. Nothing their mouthpiece spews out can change that.

Creatchman: Tonight you find out what real wrestlers are, Gino Brito! Too long you’ve skated by on your reputation. That ends tonight. But a six-man match doesn’t prove anything. It’s only fair that you have to fight for your title shot. In two weeks you two against the Midnight Express to decide who faces the Rougeaus on the 30th.

Brito: You’re on Creatchman, and don’t think you can weasel your way out of this when you lose!

Both teams leave in opposite directions as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

(45:30 - 60:00)

Gino Brito, Tony Parisi and Louis Laurence are already in the ring, playing to the crowd as the Midnight Express, with Creatchman in tow, and Dan Johnson make their way to the ring to boos.

Gino Brito, Tony Parisi, & Louis Laurence vs. The Midnight Express & Dan Johnson

Brito and Parisi both started hot against Condrey and Rose. Laurence and Johnson went back and forth. Brito and Condrey had an intense brawl, very likely the result of Condrey’s sneak attack on Brito last week. Parisi was brought in after Brito took control and fell victim to several punches to the gut, one to the face and a neckbreaker to swing momentum Condrey’s way. The Midnights and Johnson cut off the ring and worked Parisi over. Laurence took the tag and came in on fire, Brito tagging in soon after and doing the same. Condrey and Rose tried saving Johnson as Brito and Laurence took turns attacking him, but Brito was fired up and not letting them get control back. Brito tagged in Parisi and hit a side suplex on Johnson, staying in the ring to slow down the Midnights as Parisi came off the top with a senton to finish Johnson. The crowd went nuts as Brito, Parisi and Laurence celebrated. The Midnights tried to attack the faces after the match, but Brito and Parisi were ready for them and they had to retreat, dragging a groggy Johnson to the back with them.

Parisi over Johnson by pinfall after a combination side suplex/flying senton 13:26

International Wrestling on July 22nd, 1983 (taped July 20th in the Paul Sauvé Arena, Montreal, Quebec) 3,600 fans

Opening/First Match

0-11:00

The show opening montage leads to Jacques, Sr. In the backstage interview area, Lou Albano and the Tongan Terrors stalking into the shot.

Rougeau, Sr.: Welcome to another night of International Wrestling, fans! We have a great show for you tonight! Once again we start off with Captain Lou Albano. It looks like your team is back tonight, Mr. Albano, but they aren’t involved in any matches. I imagine you’ll be on your best beh-

Albano rips the microphone from Rougeau’s hand and starts in a growl.

Albano: Let’s get something straight, Rougeau. Last week you said some very disrespectful things to me and we’re going to talk about that. First, do not ever interrupt me again or the next time I see you my monsters will make it so you can’t talk for a week. Second, if you ever threaten me again I will order my monsters to rip you limb from limb! Can you hold a microphone without any arms, Rougeau?

Albano tosses the mic back to Jacques, Sr. The ex-wrestler catches it gracefully while glaring at Albano.

Rougeau, Sr.: I can see your manners haven’t improved, Mr. Albano. Regardless, you did request this time. I’m sure these fans would like to know what’s on your mind.

Albano: About time, Rougeau. How about you get to the point next time instead of all this pointless chatter? Tonight Jim Brunzell is in the building and he gets what’s coming to him! We haven’t seen him yet, but when we do my monsters will educate him on why it’s a big mistake to make us mad!

Rougeau, Sr.: It sounds like you want to spend next week without your charges in the building just like last week, Mr. Albano.
Albano: And another thing, Rougeau. Smart mouth comments like that will carry the same punishment as interrupting me. Do you think we care if the IWA doesn’t like what we do? Two weeks ago was just a start and it will get worse. Watch what my monsters do to Brunzell tonight and understand that’s just the beginning!

Albano and the Tongan Terrors storm off, kicking open every door in sight and peering in before continuing. The camera cuts to the ring where Dan Johnson is climbing in as the crowd boos him a little. “The Farmer” Louis Laurence comes out to more than a few cheers.

Louis Laurence vs. Dan Johnson

Johnson starts things out by ambushing Laurence during introductions. Laurence battles back with elbows and punches before trying a takedown. Johnson makes the ropes and cheapshots Laurence on the break, coming up with an arm as Laurence reels. Johnson works the arm over until Laurence is able to reverse a hold and grab Johnson’s left leg. Laurence works the leg until Johnson manages to come back and hit a few slams for nearfalls, but Laurence goes right back to the leg to set up a half crab for the win.

Louis Laurence over Dan Johnson by submission with a half crab 7:19

Jacques, Sr. runs down the remaining matches on the card.

Commercial Break

11:00-25:30

We return from commercial with Jacques, Sr. talking about Laurence’s win. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson and Richard Charland walk out to the ring while the crowd boos. Jacques, Sr. highlights Lefebvre’s ferocity and the willingness of both of his teammates to cheat in order to gain the smallest advantage. Armand Rougeau, Rene Goulet and Dave Kochen come out of the back to a great response. Dave Kochen is put over by Jacques, Sr. as a bright young prospect while Goulet is presented as a wise veteran who has taken Armand under his wing. A father’s pride comes through as Jacques, Sr. talks about Armand’s fire and athleticism.

Armand Rougeau, Rene Goulet & Dave Kochen vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre, Gilles Poisson & Richard Charland

The match goes back and forth at the beginning with Lefebvre and Rougeau having several intense exchanges. Goulet gets worked over for a short time with a blistering Armand comeback only to have Poisson trap him in the corner for both of his partners to beat Rougeau up while Kochen argues with referee Luigi Marcera. Armand takes a good beating before tagging in Kochen, who comes in hot with Goulet joining in. In the confusion, Poisson hits a low blow to stun Kochen and set him up for a bearhug. Poisson was not the legal man and set Kochen up on the second turnbuckle for Lefebvre to superplex him for the win.

Mad Dog Lefebvre over Dave Kochen by pinfall after a bearhug/second rope superplex combination 11:26

Commercial Break

25:30 - 44:30

We return from commercial to Jacques Rougeau, Sr. in the ring with Phil Lafon and Jim Brunzell. The two young wrestlers play to the crowd and soak in the cheers.

Rougeau, Sr.: I’m here with two of International’s most exciting young wrestlers, Jim Brunzell and Phil Lafon. You two seem to have had nothing but trouble since you arrived.

Lafon: We can handle whatever trouble comes our way, Jacques, Sr. We are glad to be here in the International Wrestling Association. There’s a lot going on here and we want to be a part of it!

Brunzell: The fans here have been great and we hope we can live up to the example the Rougeaus are setting.

Rougeau, Sr.: What about Lou Albano and the Tongan Terrors? They seem to have it out for you, Jim.

Brunzell: If they have a problem with me, we’ll settle it in the ring like men.

Lafon: What we want to talk about is the number Slaughter did on us in the tournament. We hear he’s coming back to town for the show on the 30th. I think the fans want to see us take out Slaughter and Lefebvre!

The fans cheer, but it’s not the reaction Gino Brito or a Rougeau would get.

Rougeau, Sr.: It does seem that way.

Lafon: We have one more thing to address, Jacques, Sr. The Midnight Express overlooked us three weeks ago in that tournament and it almost cost them. I won’t make excuses for the loss, they got the one, two, three on us fair and square. We’re not done with them, but it seems like we have other things to deal with first.

Brunzell: I think we’ve proven that we’re more than capable as a team. Every tag team needs a name. We don’t want to forget the Midnight Express while we deal with Slaughter, so we’re going to remind ourselves whenever we get in the ring. You can call us the Can Am Express!

The newly named Can Am Express wait in the ring for their opponents, the British Bulldogs to enter. Jacques, Sr. Returns to the announce table and talks about what a shame it is that a veteran and a man with the size advantage Poisson has would resort to cheating in the previous match. The British Bulldogs emerge and Jacques, Sr. begins talking about how well the Bulldogs did in the tournament and how excited he is for this matchup. He only hopes that the Tongans won’t take this opportunity to follow up on Albano’s threats. The crowd cheers the team of young, exciting British stars after their performance on July 2nd.

The Can Am Express vs. The British Bulldogs

This match goes a mile a minute as both teams work fast and furious with no clear control for any amount of time. Each team takes turns double-teaming a member of the opposite team before a series of rollup reversals between Dynamite and Lafon. The Tongan Terrors sprint down to ringside and pull Brunzell off the apron just as he turns around. Albano points into the crowd and both big Tongans toss Brunzell over the guard rail into the crowd. Tonga John holds off the other three wrestlers, swinging a chair wildly while King Tonga starts tossing Brunzell around in the crowd with little regard for where any fans may be. The King grabs a chair, waiting for Brunzell to stand up right in front a a couple with several children and hurls the chair straight at Brunzell’s head. Brunzell, unable to move because of what would happen to the people behind him, gets his hands up, but goes down in a heap and King Tonga continues to stomp at him after hitting him several times over the back with another chair. Jacques, Sr. Is mortified through all of this, demanding that somebody from the back come out and help. The other three wrestlers are finally able to subdue Tonga John and help Brunzell, but the damage has been done. Brunzell, his forehead bleeding profusely, has to be helped to the back by Davey Boy and Lafon.

No contest due to interference 13:06

Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express are with Jacques Rougeau, Sr. in the interview area backstage as we come back from break.

Rougeau, Sr.: It looks like your team won’t get your opportunity to face the Rougeaus for the titles, Eddie Creatchman. What’s next for the Midnight Express?

Creatchman: You sure make a lot of assumptions, Rougeau. Let me ask you this. Who did Tony Parisi pin last week? Was is Randy Rose or Dennis Condrey?

Rougeau, Sr.: No, it was Dan Johnson. They seemed like they did just fine against Rose and Condrey.

Creatchman: I won’t stand here and tell you that Brito is nothing in that ring. I know he’s good. But he’s not as good as he thinks he is and my guys are better. Better than your pampered sons, too!

Rougeau, Sr.: I’m not even going to dignify that with a response.

Creatchman: It’s too bad you already did. Your family never did have any brains. Brito hasn’t got much going on up there either. After my guys put Brito and Parisi away next week, you’ll have to watch them take the tag titles away from your sons, Rougeau!

Creatchman and the Midnight Express storm off, leaving Jacques, Sr. Shaking his head.

44:30 - 60:00

We return from commercial to Jacques Rougeau, Sr. In the interview area. Stan Hansen comes into the shot, announced by the bell on his bullrope, swniging the bullrope wildly and causing Jacques, Sr. To dodge nervously away. Hansen is in his always-present cowboy hat with his ring and entrance gear on. Hansen starts shouting loudly enough that he is heard without the microphone.

Hansen: Andre, you may be the biggest bastard I’ve ever faced in a wrestling ring, but that don’t mean I won’t kick your ass, boy! In a week and a half I’m gonna lariat you so hard the people in the first row will feel it!

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Hansen, tonight you face Gino Brito-

Hansen: I don’t care about Gino...what’d you say his name was?

Jacques, Sr.: Gino Brito, Mr.-

Hansen: Never heard of that sumbitch. How about that Jacques Rougeau? He’s scrawny, but from what i seen he likes a good fight! I wouldn’t mind kickin’ his scrawny French Canadian ass to warm up for Andre.

Jacques, Sr.: Regardless, tonight y-

Hansen: Boy, I don’t think you’ve been payin’ any attention to me. I’m here to fight Andre. We got unfinished business and nothin’ else in this one horse town is worth my time. This Brito like a good fight?

Jacques, Sr.: He’ll surprise you.

Hansen: Damn, boy, yer catchin’ on. I think I might like you yet. Let me just say this to any fans watching. Me and Andre got a history, and it ain’t pretty. We ain't gonna be doing no high flyin' or technical wrestlin'. If that's what you want to see, stay home. If you love a good knock down, drag out brawl, come on down, 'cause that's what yer gonna get! Right now I got me a French Canadian to beat up before I do the same to a giant Frenchman!

Jacques shakes his head, partially in relief as Hansen never stopped moving during his promo or slamming the bell on his bullrope around. We cut to the crowd roaring for Gino Brito entering the ring. Jacques, Sr. highlights Brito’s years as a fan favorite right here in Montreal. Brito soaks it in as Stan Hansen emerges from the back to a heavy round of boos. Hansen swings is bullrope around wildly on his way to the ring, threatening Brito with it upon entering the ring. Hansen is described by Jacques, Sr. as a “Texas tornado.” Jacques, Sr. describes how Hansen has been fined and banned from promotions for behavior similar to that of the Tongan Terrors.

Gino Brito vs. Stan Hansen

Hansen and Brito go straight to brawling, then both work a headlock for a while. Hansen lays a mean beating in on Brito, who fires up and brawls back into the match before going to the leg to set up his figure four. Hansen nearly falls victim to the hold, but scrambles halfway to the ropes while fighting Brito putting it on to make his escape much easier. Hansen rolls out of the ring and Brito chases him down, much to the fans delight. Brito puts on the brakes when Hansen tries to run him into the ringpost, but the big Texan slams Brito on the arena floor to set up a lariat in the ring for the three.

Stan Hansen over Gino Brito by pinfall after the lariat 12:57

The show ends with Hansen in the ring celebrating. The big Texan is giving the "longhorn" gesture as Gino Brito lays on the mat motionless as head referee Adrian Desbois and several medical personnel check on him.

First match

0:00 - 6:30

The Can Am Express walk to the ring to a good reaction after the opening montage, Brunzell’s head bandaged after the assault last week from King Tonga. The Kay Brothers are already in the ring. Jacques, Sr. on commentary welcomes everyone to the show and talks about how great it is to see the Can Am Express in action after the vicious attack last week at the hands of the Tongan terrors, who are again banned from the building this week.

The Can Am Express vs. The Kay Brothers

The Kays are game opponents, using their experience to their advantage after a quick start by the Can Ams. The Kays advantage is short-lived as Lafon uses his arsenal of martial arts kicks to soften up Rudy Kay. Brunzell hits a beautiful dropkick and Lafon puts on a cobra clutch for the victory.

Jacques, Sr. Talks about the rest of the matches on the card before commercial.

Commercial Break

6:30 - 18:30

Lou Albano is in the backstage interview area with Jacques Rougeau, Sr. when we come back from commercial.

Rougeau, Sr.: The Can Am Express is victorious this evening. What do you think about that, Mr. Albano?

Albano: My monsters did what I said they would do last week! What happens to some worthless Canadians the next week is of no concern to me.

Rougeau, Sr.: I’d be careful, Mr. Albano. I’ll admit your team is tough, but you’re vastly outnumbered by Canadians.

Albano: I did tell you about threatening me, right Rougeau? I’ll let that one slide, but you’d best be careful. One less worthless Canadian to deal with sounds nice.

Rougeau, Sr.: *shakes his head* It looks like you got your charges banned from the arena again, Mr. Albano. Was it worth it?

Albano: Was it worth it? Was it worth it?!?

Albano starts laughing very loudly.

Albano: Did you see Brunzell’s face after what King Tonga did? All he had to do was move, but he’s too much of a goody-two-shoes to let the chair hit a fan. That’s the kind of idiot the fans here cheer for?

Rougeau, Sr.: Mr. Albano, you and I disagree on a lot of things. Jim Brunzell is no idiot and I’m proud of his actions.

Albano: I’m so happy for you, Rougeau. Maybe next time it can be you taking the punishment for some unlucky fan that got in our way. We’re not done with that idiot Brunzell or his fancy kick-throwing partner by a long shot and if they think-

Albano runs off as the Can Am Express approach, screaming something back at them from a safe distance.

Rougeau, Sr.: That was an impressive victory out there, gentlemen. I can only imagine that your attitude towards the Tongan Terrors and Lou Albano has changed quite a bit.

Brunzell: That would be putting it lightly, Jacques, Sr. Albano better hope we never get our hands on him!

Lafon: We’ve heard it from the front office that we got our match with Slaughter tomorrow night, but the Tongan Terrors want our attention and they have it. Once Slaughter is taken care of we know who is on deck.

The Can Am Express walk away confidently as Jacques, Sr. Continues speaking.

Rougeau, Sr.: They may be new to the IWA, but those young men certainly have found themselves in a tough spot. Be sure to come out tomorrow night and lend them your support!

The camera cuts to Tony Ricco and Louis Laurence slapping hands with the fans at ringside to cheers. Jacques, Sr. talks about Laurence as an up-and-coming wrestler with a big future. Richard Charland and Dan Johnson are booed as they make their way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. chides Richard Charland for his underhanded tactics. Jacques, Sr. mentions that due to singles wins in recent weeks Charland and Laurence will be meeting in the inaugural match for the Quebec Heavyweight Title on July 30th.

Louis Laurence and Tony Ricco vs. Richard Charland and Dan Johnson

Charland starts the match out for his team, but immediately tags Johnson in when he sees Laurence in the ring. Charland drops off the apron when laurence approaches and Johnson tries to use the distraction to his advantage. Laurence is too quick and takes advantage with punches and elbows before Laurence and Ricco use quick tags to work Johnson’s leg. Laurence gets blindsided by Charland to allow a Johnson tag. Charland hammers away at Laurence after choking him several times, breaking at four. Laurence takes a beating, but makes the tag to Ricco. Ricco cleans house and starts working on Johnson’s leg again, but Charland again interferes. Charland hits a piledriver on Ricco that forces a Laurence save. Laurence clears both Johnson and Ricco out of the ring to allow a tag. Charland tries a piledriver on Laurence after an attack while Johnson causes a distraction, but Laurence backdrops him out of it and rolls over into a jackknife hold for the three.

Louis Laurence over Richard Charland by pinfall with a jackknife hold 7:42

Jacques, Sr. excitedly talks about how if Laurence can do the same thing tomorrow night he will be the inaugural Quebec Heavyweight Champion. Be sure to come out and support Laurence in his match!

Commercial Break

18:30 - 23:00

When we return from commercial Sgt. Slaughter & Mad Dog Lefebvre are in the interview area with Jacques Rougeau, Sr.

Rougeau, Sr.: Sgt. Slaughter and Mad Dog Lefebvre, we saw you team last on Saturday, July 2nd against the Can Am Express. After that match you certainly gave Phil Lafon a working over. Not to mention knocking Luigi Marcera, the referee in the match, out with a stomp to the head. Do you have any explanation for this?

Slaughter: The match was very hard-fought and I was sweating profusely. I couldn’t make out who it was I was stomping on, but I knew my partner was being covered. I didn’t want to lose the match and stomped on the first guy I could reach as the two count had already been made.

Rougeau, Sr.: That’s all well and good to say, but the attack after the match on Lafon with brass knuckles was hardly justified.

Slaughter: You don’t know how those two talk in the ring. Lafon has a mouth on him and had been trying to make me angry all match. After the disqualification I was angry and he smarted off one too many times. I won’t take that kind of abuse lying down.

Jacques, Sr.: And you just happened to have a set of brass knuckles handy?

Slaughter: You never know what can happen, Jacques, Sr. Better safe than sorry.

Lefebvre: Of course you would take the side of Lafon and Brunzell, Jacques, Sr. They are best friends with your boys.

Jacques, Sr.: I recall you being best friends with Raymond up until a few years ago, Pierre. You should know better than to associate yourself with people like Sgt. Slaughter and Gilles Poisson.

Lefebvre: I respect what you’ve done for wrestling in Montreal, Jacques, Sr. I remember you being a very kind man throughout my youth. Those are the only two reasons you get to talk like that to the Mad Dog. Slaughter and myself plan to inflict more pain on the Can Am Express tomorrow night.

Slaughter: That’s right. The last match left a sour taste in my mouth and I don’t think Lafon or Brunzell learned their lesson last time. This time we won’t play as nice as we did last time!

Slaughter and Lefebvre mug for the camera for a moment before leaving the interview area. Jacques, Sr. goes over the rest of the card before a video package of Greg “the Hammer” Valentine is shown. Valentine’s attacks on Rick Martel are highlighted, as is his violent, physical style.

23:00 - 35:00

We come back from commercial with a shot of the ring where Rene Goulet is playing to the fans after his entrance. Jacques, Sr. again talks about the upcoming title match between Laurence and Charland briefly before talking about how the veteran Goulet has become a mentor to young Armand Rougeau. Mad Dog Lefebvre walks to the ring being booed heavily. Jacques, Sr. talks about Lefebvre’s mean streak and feral behavior.

Rene Goulet vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre

Lefebvre gets the better of the early brawling and the veteran Goulet starts working a headlock. Goulet grinds the Mad Dog down with the hold, but Lefebvre fights his way out and beats Goulet down in the corner before biting at his forehead. Goulet is able to fend off the biting and keep himself from bleeding, but Lefebvre’s punches, kicks and forearms take their toll. Lefebvre is too close to the ropes on a scorpion claw hold attempt after a Goulet comeback. Goulet tries to keep the advantage in the corner, but Lefebvre tosses the veteran into the corner and lays in knees to the ribs, setting up a second rope superplex for the three.

Commercial Break

35:00 - 57:00

Gino Brito and Tony Parisi are in the ring with Jacques Rougeau, Sr. as we return from commercial break.

Rougeau, Sr.: Ladies and gentlemen please welcome my good friend Gino Brito and his tag team partner Tony Parisi. Tonight you two are looking to cement your spot in the challengers position for the Canadian International Tag Team Titles tomorrow night.

Brito: We showed everyone two weeks ago that we can beat the Midnight Express and tonight we will do it again.

The crowd pops big for this.

Rougeau, Sr.: Eddie Creatchman has made the valid point that you two beat Dan Johnson and not Dennis Condrey or Randy Rose.

Parisi: We beat Johnson with Condrey and Rose trying to stop us from doing that very thing, didn’t we?

Brito: Maybe if Rose and Condrey were as good as Creatchman claims they would have been able to stop us.

Rougeau, Sr.: Also valid points, Mr. Brito. So can we expect to see a good, clean fight tonight?

Parisi: That depends on the Midnight Express.

Brito: If they want to fight dirty, we’ll do what we need to do. There’s no way we’re missing out on a title shot because we weren’t willing to fight fire with fire.

The crowd again pops.

Rougeau, Sr.: It seems like this crowd is looking forward to seeing you beat the Midnight Express tonight!

Brito: We owe it to these great fans to do just that. Lets get this started!

The crowd pops again as Brito and Parisi urge them on. The Midnight Express emerges from the curtain with Eddie Creatchman and the crowd boos. Jacques, Sr. highlights the impact the Midnight Express has had in IWA. Jacques, Sr. praises his friend Brito and his tag partner, and hopes that they are victorious. They are deserving of the title shot tomorrow night, says Jacques, Sr.

Gino Brito & Tony Parisi vs. The Midnight Express with Eddie Creatchman

Brito and Parisi are able to control the pace of the match for a long time, going after Condrey’s leg. Condrey is able to fight off Parisi after a distraction from Creatchman and tag to Rose. The Midnights work over Parisi’s ribs for a while before Parisi hits a series of punches to Rose and tags in Brito. Brito is a house afire and neither Rose nor Condrey can get the better of him. Brito homes in on Condrey’s leg again, but can’t get the figure four locked in as Rose stomps on his head several times just before he can. The Midnights hit a double slam on Brito for a nearfall and continue to tag back and forth, double-teaming the veteran mercilessly. Brito is finally able to tag Parisi and he actually hits his flying senton for a nearfall on Condrey after a big comeback, but again the Midnights teamwork overcomes their opponents’ momentum. Brito attempts to intercede on Parisi’s behalf but is cut off easily after being weakened earlier. Condrey picks Parisi up into a vertical suplex only to walk him over into the corner where Rose is sitting on the second turnbuckle. Rose tags himself in and hits a second rope powerslam for the three.

Randy Rose over Tony Parisi by pinfall after an assisted second rope powerslam 18:54

Jacques, Sr. begrudgingly gives credit to the Midnight Express for their victory. He congratulates Brito and Parisi on a hard-fought match as well as Rose and Condrey celebrate in the ring with Eddie Creatchman. Jacques, Sr. reminds all of the fans that tomorrow night is the big Montreal Forum show, Blood & Gold. The Midnight Express will challenge the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers for the titles! Andre the Giant and Stan Hansen face off! Don't forget to get your tickets if there are any left!

International Wrestling Presents: Blood and Gold, July 30th, 1983 in the Montreal Forum (18,500)

The show opens with Lou Albano and the Tongan Terrors coming out to ringside being booed heavily. Their opponents tonight are Tim and Alex Gerrard, who get a better reaction than normal.

The Tongan Terrors vs. The Gerrard Brothers

The Tongans dominate from the start and don’t let up. The Gerrards pepper Tonga John with punches, chops and boots to the gut but the big Tongan doesn’t seem to notice and clotheslines Alex Gerrard out of his boots. Alex is the focus of a brutal beating by the Tongans. King Tonga hits a savate kick after tagging John. Tonga John comes off the top with a headbutt to get the three on Alex Gerrard.

Tonga John over Alex Gerrard by pinfall after a savate kick/flying headbutt comination 4:45

Gino Brito and Tony Parisi get big cheers as they enter the ring. Bobby and Rudy Kay get little to no reaction.

Gino Brito and Tony Parisi vs. The Kay Brothers

Brito and Parisi work Bobby Kay over with quick tags, focusing on the ribs and back. The Kays get in a few double team moves to take over on Parisi, but he’s able to turn things around on Bobby Kay by going back to the ribs. Brito sets Parisi up with a side suplex of Bobby Kay after tagging and his partner hits a flying senton for the three.

Tony Parisi over Bobby Kay by pinfall after a side suplex/flying senton 5:18

Tony Ricco comes out to a mildly positive response. Greg “the Hammer” Valentine gets some boos after the video package that aired last night.

Tony Ricco vs. Greg Valentine

Valentine is dominant to start the match, using blstering chops punctuated with a bionic elbow. Ricco fights back, but Valentine is quick to go to the leg and works it over in his violent fashion for some time. Ricco makes a comeback, but his leg slows him down enough to give Valentine the opening he needs. Valentine hits several vicious elbow drops to the leg before locking in the figure four and gaining a submission victory.

Greg Valentine over Tony Ricco by submission with the figure four 6:49

“The Farmer,” Louis Laurence gets a pretty good reaction as he enters the arena. Richard Charland is booed by the fans after his cowardly actions in this week’s TV tag match.

Louis Laurence vs. Richard Charland for the vacant Quebec Heavyweight Title

Charland attacks Laurence during introductions to elicit more boos from the crowd and gain an early advantage. Laurence battles back, but Charland whips him into a corner and stomps on him, breaking three times at head referee Adrian Desbois’ four count. A blatant choke follows, with Desbois again trying to break the hold to little avail before forcibly making Charland comply. Charland and Desbois have an argument, which gives Laurence time to recover and surprise an overconfident Charland with punches to the gut and head. Laurence begins to work on Charland’s leg with a mix of basic holds, punches and elbow drops. Charland tries going for the eyes, but Laurence shoves him into the corner and starts wailing away with right hands. Referee Desbois physically removes Laurence from the corner several times, with Charland taking advantage and hitting a low blow on Laurence that Desbois can’t see. Charland tries his piledriver, but Laurence somehow backdrops him out of it. Laurence is unable to follow up and Charland rolls him up in a prawn hold with both feet on the second rope to get the three.

Richard Charland over Louis Laurence by pinfall with his feet on the ropes to capture the Quebec Heavyweight Title

Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express walk to the ring where Jacques Rougeau, Sr. waits with a microphone in hand. Creatchman stops several times to confer with his charges and glare at the crowd. Rougeau gets a slightly amused look on his face every time this happens. The trio get into the ring.

Jacques Rougeau, Sr.: I would like to welcome to the ring at this time Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express. I can only assume you want to talk about your title match later tonight.

Creatchman: You ARE a genius, Rougeau. Of course we do. My charges and I have been talking about the last match we had for the Canadian International Tag Team titles and saw our mistake. Tonight we won’t make that same mistake again. They don’t call me “The Brain” for my nothing.

Jacques, Sr.: I’m more than certain my boys are up to the task, whatever your strategy may be, Eddie Creatchman. I’ve heard you talk like this so many times before that it’s hard to take you seriously.

Creatchman: Of course you have, Rougeau. I will say that I’ve never had a team as incredible as these two men you see behind me. Dennis Condrey is six feet, two hundred and fifty pounds of MEAN! When he steps between these ropes, Dennis Condrey is all business! And his partner, Randy Rose. This man stands six foot one and weighs in at two hundred and forty pounds. He is one of the most complete wrestlers you will ever see. He can brawl, he can come off the top, he can work the mat. His powerslam off the ropes will devastate any man! Together these two men are a well-oiled machine! They will destroy anyone that is put in front of them. And that includes your boys, Rougeau!

The Midnights and Creatchman leave the ring as the crowd voices their displeasure with them. Once they reach the back, the British Bulldogs emerge from the curtain. They are greeted with a very good reaction as they make their entrance. Armand Rougeau and Rene Goulet get a lot of cheers as well from the capacity crowd.

Armand Rougeau & Rene Goulet vs. The British Bulldogs

The two teams could not get any real advantage in the early going, Armand finally falling victim to a series of quick double teams by the Bulldogs. Armand fought his way out of trouble with big right hands and tagged in Goulet. Goulet and Dynamite did a series of counters on the mat that neither seemed to get the advantage of. Dynamite started getting hot and soon the chops and boots were flying as Goulet and Dynamite brawled. A series of quick tags between Armand and Dynamite left Dynamite in need of a tag and Davey hit a big dropkick followed by an overhead press slam on Goulet. Goulet exited the ring to slow down Davey’s momentum, but it did little good as the Bulldogs again started double teaming him as it gave Dynamite time to recover. Armand took a tag and looked like he may have Dynamite in a sleeper, but Davey saved his partner and the teams exchanged nearfalls. Dynamite was finally able to get the three with a headbutt off the top rope. The Bulldogs shook hands with Armand and Goulet post-match and returned to the back with the crowd cheering them on. The Midnight Express emerge from the crowd and attack Armand Rougeau and Goulet as they left the ring, turning the crowd’s cheers to boos. Jacques and Raymond are quick to run off the Midnights and cut a short promo vowing they would avenge this attack on their brother.

Dynamite Kid over Rene Goulet by pinfall after a flying headbutt 14:51

The Can Am Express make their way to the ring with purpose, looking very focused as the crowd cheers them on. Brunzell is still bandaged from the cut he received two weeks prior. Slaughter and Mad Dog Lefebvre jaw with the crowd on their way out, soaking in the boos.

The Can Am Express vs. Sgt. Slaughter & Mad Dog Lefebvre

Lafon and Brunzell come out hot, laying in right hands on Lefebvre and Slaughter. Slaughter and Lefebvre look like they are being overwhelmed before Slaughter ducks a right from Brunzell and bounces off the ropes into a Slaughter cannon. The heels work Brunzell over with clubs and punches before Slaughter rips the bandage off of Brunzell’s cut from two weeks ago and goes to work on the cut. Brunzell comes roaring back with European uppercuts and a running elbow smash, but Slaughter grabs a handful of tights to cut off the tag by an inch! Lefebvre bites the already bleeding cut and Brunzell again fires up only to have Lefebvre grab his hair. A Brunzell jumping knee after being whipped to the ropes allows him to tag Lafon. Lafon comes in with a flurry of kicks, chops and punches to both Slaughter and Lefebvre. Brunzell hits the Canadian Rocky Buster on Lefebvre, but Slaughter makes the save. Brunzell has to be escorted back to his corner by referee Andre Roy, allowing Slaughter the opportunity to go into his trunks and hit Lafon with a set of brass knuckles. Slaughter and Lefebvre use a double clothesline to put an almost unconscious, now bloody Lafon down to set up Slaughter’s cobra clutch for the win.

Sgt. Slaughter over Phil Lafon by submission with the cobra clutch 14:42

Stan Hansen enters the ring first to loud boos. The crowd erupts in cheers as Andre the Giant comes out of the curtain. Hansen ambushes Andre at ringside before the bell.

Andre the Giant vs. Stan Hansen

Andre reverses a whip into the guard rail and chops Hansen down as he tries to hang onto the guard rail. Hansen gets rolled into the ring and stomps away at Andre as he enters the ring and the bell rings, but Andre is able to stand up through the assault. They brawl around the ring until Andre locks on a standing surfboard and headbutts Hansen’s back. Hansen takes the worst of it until he hits a series of elbows, chops and bionic elbows to stagger the giant. A hiptoss by Hansen takes Andre off his feet! The giant comes back with more brawling and tosses Hansen around the ring a few times before the Texan brawler escapes to the outside. Hansen takes control on the outside and rolls into the ring and back out just in time to avoid being counted out. Andre reverses a whip into the ringpost and Hansen comes up bleeding. Hansen is rolled into the ring and the two brawl around the ring, Andre taking control by bouncing Hansen’s head off of two turnbuckles. Hansen comes back with more brawling, taking the giant down to one knee and stomping him to the mat. Hansen hits a huge lariat that sends him crashing through the ropes to the floor with the momentum! Andre falls to the outside where the two brawl all around the ring and get counted out. It takes a few minutes for security, every IWA referee and half the locker room to separate the two behemoths as the crowd roars.

Double disqualification due to count-out 13:24

The Midnight Express and Eddie Creatchman take their time getting to the ring. Jacques and Raymond rush the ring, but Rose and Condrey bail out.

The Midnight Express vs. The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers(@) for the Canadian International Tag Team Titles

Head referee Adrian Desbois finally gets Rose into the ring opposite Jacques, who comes in with big right hands. Rose rolls out of the ring and confers with Creatchman on the floor as Condrey assures Desbois that Rose will get back in the ring. The Midnights continue to stall the fired-up Rougeaus, finally catching a break when Jacques, tired of the stalling, reaches over the ropes to pull Condrey in. Jacques gets draped throat-first over the rope as Condrey drops off the apron and the Midnights go to work with grinding headlocks and brutal punches. Condrey makes a point of putting on a sleeper while staring right at Raymond. Raymond hits the ring and decks Condrey, but Jacques is unable to take advantage. Jacques makes the tag to Raymond after several cut-offs by the Midnights. Raymond rolls over both Midnights, both taking shelter on the floor, but Raymond chases them down and sends both stumbling away with right hands. Jacques hits a dropkick off the apron and the Rougeaus are rolling. Back in the ring the Midnights barely escape a tag team finish by the Rougeaus when Condrey breaks up a cover by Jacques. Condrey is able to tag himself in and hits a full nelson facebuster on Jacques, but Raymond is there for the save. Jacques moves on a leg drop by Condrey and tags in Raymond, who catches Condrey in a sleeper. Rose can’t make the save as Jacques is punching away at him on the floor. Condrey passes out and the match is called by the ref, Condrey slumping unconscious on the mat.

Refuses to tap? What does that mean? :)

Slaughter & Lefebvre sound like a team a crowd would really want to kill. Hansen/Andre doesn't sound quite as good as their match from Japan but I'd still want to see it.

20 minute match between The Fabulous Rougeaus & The Midnight Express in Montreal is something I would love to see.

Opening Matches

0:00 - 13:00

Jacques, Sr. Welcomes the fans to another evening of International Wrestling as Armand Rougeau and Rene Goulet slap hands with the fans on their way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. talks about the problems Armand Rougeau has had with the Midnight Express and Mad Dog Lefebvre. Their opponents, Ettiene Bergeron and Frederic Tremblay are awaiting them in the ring.

Armand Rougeau & Rene Goulet vs. Ettiene Bergeron & Frederic Tremblay

Rougeau and Goulet dominate from the start, working together well. They put away Tremblay when Armand hits a diving fist drop after tagging Goulet and Goulet follows with his scorpion claw hold.

Rene Goulet over Frederic Tremblay by submission with a scorpion claw hold 4:26

The camera cuts to Jacques, Sr. and he goes over the remaining matches on the card after praising Rougeau and Goulet for their teamwork. The camera cuts back to the ring as the Kay Brothers await their opponents. The crowd erupts as Jacques and Raymond Rougeau enter the arena floor. Jacques, Sr. has nothing but good things to say about his two elder sons, the Canadian International Tag Team champions.

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers vs. The Kay Brothers

The Kays get in a noticeable amount of offense in comparison to the match before, but the Rougeaus are able to put them away with ease with their crab/flying knee drop combination.

Jacques, Sr. has nothing but praise again for his sons as they help their opponents up before celebrating.

Jacques Rougeau over Bobby Kay by pinfall after a crab/flying knee drop combination 5:45

Commercial Break

13:00 - 23:00

We return from commercial with Jacques, Sr. in the interview area with Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express.

Jacques, Sr.: Eddie Creatchman, your team came up short again last Saturday and my boys still have their titles. Anything to say for yourself?

Creatchman glares at Rougeau and confers with his charges before walking up to the microphone.

Creatchman: Listen, Rougeau. Your kids have a lot of heart and the motor to match it, but they have some very glaring weaknesses that I, Eddie “The Brain” Creatchman have uncovered. Now I am not able to do anything about it, but there are two men standing behind me who can. The next time we get a chance-

Jacques, Sr.: Your team has the only two matches against my sons for the tag titles, Eddie Creatchman. How do you intend to get a third before a deserving team like Gino Brito and Tony Parisi get their turn?

Creatchman: Leave that to me, Rougeau. I am called “The Brain” for good reason, and one of those reasons is I don’t reveal my plans before they come to fruition. Another is because I deal with fools like you and your thickheaded sons. I’ll give them their due, they can go, but they can be out-thought.

Jacques, Sr.: This sounds very similar to something you told me only an hour before their match last Saturday, Eddie Creatchman. Tell me why I should believe you when it worked out so well last time?

Creatchman: I’ve been trying to tell you why since I got here. It just hasn’t gotten through your thick skull. I am called “The Brain” because I use mine. Every wrestler has strengths and weaknesses. These two excellent pro wrestlers behind me very nearly exploited one of your sons’ major weaknesses on Saturday to the point of winning the match. Every time we get closer, Rougeau. It’s just a matter of time before we get the right strategy.

Jacques, Sr.: I’ll admit, your team did give my boys a run for their money. But there’s no saying you’ll do better next time. Phil Lafon and Jim Brunzell recently named their tag team with your team in mind. Do you have any intentions of facing them any time soon?

Creatchman: Those two? Didn’t these two men behind me destroy them in their one match? I hardly think we’ll be wasting our time with them. We aren’t done with your sons, Rougeau. There’s no changing that no matter how many other teams you want to bring up. Would you like to talk about Brito and Parisi, the team the Midnight Express beat cleanly in the center of the ring just before they almost beat your sons, while we’re changing the subject?

Jacques, Sr.: I had no intention of changing the subject. Since you brought up Gino Brito and Tony Parisi, they gave your team quite a scare.

Creatchman: Did they? I talk with Dennis and Randy a lot and they haven’t once mentioned to me being scared. It seems like you don’t like to talk about anything involving your precious sons and their belts. Too bad that’s all we think about, Rougeau!

Creatchman and the Midnight Express stalk off . Jacques, Sr. Starts towards the announce table as we cut to the ring. The masked team the Invaders makes their way to the ring to a mixed reaction from the crowd as the Gerrard Brothers wait in the ring. Jacques, Sr. puts the Invaders over as an exciting tag team out of Puerto Rico that has come to Montreal.

The Invaders vs. The Gerrard Brothers

The Invaders take this time to showcase their in-ring skill with a little offense by the Kays peppered in. The Invaders finish things quickly when Invader 1 hiptosses Invader 3 into a senton on Bobby Kay for the three.

Invader 1 over Bobby Kay by pinfall after a Catapult (hiptoss into senton) 4:47

The Invaders celebrate as Jacques, Sr. Calls this an impressive debut in the IWA.

Commercial Break

23:00 - 37:00

Jacques, Sr. is in the interview area with a familiar face in Montreal, Mad Dog Vachon!

Jacques, Sr.: Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen and have we got a treat for you! The one, the only, Mad Dog Vachon!

Vachon: It’s great to be back home Jacques. It’s been a while and I miss the place. One problem though. There’s somebody else runnin’ around callin’ himself a mad dog.

Jacques, Sr.: That’s right, Mad Dog Lefebvre.

Vachon: Not for long Jacques. I’m here to end that for good. The fans here know. There’s only one mad dog!

Vachon barks a few times and snarls before stalking off. Jacques, Sr. Continues.

Jacques, Sr.: It looks like Mad Dog Vachon is ready to take it out of Mad Dog Lafebvre’s hide! That match coming up later tonight!

The camera cuts to the ring as Richard Charland and Dan Johnson walk out of the back to boos. Jacques, Sr. notes the Quebec Heavyweight Title around Charland’s waist and the dishonest way he won it. Louis Laurence and Tony Ricco come through the curtain and the crowd begins cheering. Jacques, Sr. talks about Laurence being robbed in the Montreal Forum. Charland taunts Laurence with the belt and refuses to let the referee take it for around a minute while pushing it in Laurence’s face and pointing at it.

Louis Laurence & Tony Ricco vs. Richard Charland & Dan Johnson

Johnson and Ricco start, Ricco taking control and tagging in Laurence. Several quick tags later Laurence tosses Johnson into Charland’s corner and demanding a tag. Charland drops off the apron and stays just out of Laurence’s reach on the floor. Johnson takes the opportunity to hit Laurence in the shoulders with a few forearms and start working him over. Charland is quickly back up on the apron to take the tag and the champ and his partner work Laurence’s neck over with clubs, chinlocks, stomps and chokes. Laurence finally tags Ricco, who comes in swinging. Ricco ducks a clothesline by Johnson and rolls him up with a surprise schoolboy for the three. Charland jaws with Laurence from ringside post-match, well out of reach.

Ricco over Johnson by pinfall with a schoolboy 9:14

Jacques, Sr. celebrates a great victory for Laurence and Ricco and goes over the upcoming dates on the IWA’s expanded touring schedule.

Commercial Break

37:00 - 62:00

Jacques, Sr. Is in the ring with the Can Am Express. Lafon and Brunzell are playing to the crowd as Jacques, Sr. begins.

Jacques, Sr.: Welcome back ladies and gentlemen! I am in the ring with two bright young stars, Jim Brunzell and Phil Lafon, the Can Am Express! These two young men will be sharing the ring tonight with Mad Dog Vachon as they take on the Tongan Terrors and Mad Dog Lefebvre. Any thoughts on tonight’s match gentlemen?

Brunzell: We’re going to take care of business tonight, Jacques, Sr. After what the Tongans did to me two weeks ago I’m ready to tear King Tonga apart!

Lafon: Lou Albano better hope that we don’t take his “monsters” out of the equation tonight. If we do, there’s a good chance he ends up being the one bleeding tonight.

The crowd pops.

Jacques, Sr.: Well, I am no fan of Mr. Albano, but I don’t know if I wish that on him either. I can understand where you’re coming from though, after what happened.

Lafon: The Tongan Terrors and Albano both deserve any kind of punishment that comes their way. Jim and I mean to dish out as much of that as we can.

Brunzell: We were talking to Mad Dog Vachon earlier and he’s got the same idea as we do. In fact, let’s bring the man out now.

Mad Dog Vachon comes out to a HUGE pop. Brunzell and Lafon shake hands with the original Mad Dog after he enters the ring.

Vachon: We’re not here to win a match tonight. We’re here to put down a few rabid dogs!

The crowd again pops big, cheering until Mad Dog Lefebvre and the Tongan Terrors along with Lou Albano start down to the ring. Jacques, Sr. is back at the announce table in time to run down the Tongan Terrors actions so far that have gotten them removed from the building for the next week.

The Can Am Express & Mad Dog Vachon vs. The Tongan Terrors & Mad Dog Lefebvre

The Mad Dogs are in first, brawling, back raking and biting each other back and forth wildly. Lefebvre tags out to King Tonga and the brawl is on with Vachon again. Vachon is visibly tiring when he tags in Brunzell, who comes in on fire against King Tonga. Tonga seems like he is getting the better of the brawl until Brunzell hits a running elbow smash after being whipped to the ropes and following up with European uppercuts. King Tonga tags in Tonga John, who brawls with Brunzell and then Lafon. The match starts to break down with 4, 5 and 6 wrestlers in the ring as head referee Adrian Desbois does his best to keep order. Things settle down, if Lefebvre and Vachon brawling across the ring and biting one another can be described as that. Lafebvre goes down and comes up bleeding before mounting a comeback and biting Vachon in the corner before beating him down. Vachon comes up bloody and both stagger to their corners to tag out. Lafon runs into a standing big boot by Tonga John to set up a short beating at the hands of all three members of the other team. Brunzell takes the tag and takes care of both Tongans while Vachon makes a beeline for Lefebvre. The Mad Dogs brawl around ringside with Desbois trying to get them back on the apron while paying attention to the other wrestlers. King Tonga is the victim of several double teams by the Can Am express, but they can’t quite put him away. Vachon is tagged in and he waits for King Tonga to tag in Lefebvre to attack. The Mad Dogs brawl, bleed and bite around the ring while the Tongan Terrors and Can Am Express brawl around ringside. The ringside brawl spills into the crowd after a clothesline from Tonga John to Brunzell and Desbois has finally had enough and calls for the bell.

Mad Dog Vachon over Mad Dog Lefebvre by pinfall with a piledriver 16:30

Vachon keeps biting Lefebvre in the ring and Lefebvre manages to slide under the ropes, but Vachon won’t let go! Lefebvre staggers into the railing to break the bite and Vachon continues attacking a bleeding Lefebvre with forearms and punches. The other four continue to brawl , clearing out three rows of fans. Desbois and the other two referees come out with security and several lower card wrestlers to try and get things under control. The Mad Dogs are again on even footing after Lefebvre rams Vachon’s back into the apron and the two brawl towards the back. The Can Am Express and Tongan Terrors are finally separated, Lafon and Brunzell agreeing to leave ringside. Many of the fans around ringside are taunting the Terrors and Albano points at one particularly vocal fan, who gets decked by King Tonga and drops like a ton of bricks! The fans anywhere near the big Tongan wrestlers immediately back off and one of the referees attends to the fan while everyone else left out in the arena begin to remove the Tongans, who fight every step of the way, from the vicinity of the crowd. Jacques Sr. Spends this entire time frantically trying to call the action until the King’s punch is thrown. The broadcast ends with Jacques, Sr. condemning Albano and the Tongans for their actions as they are pushed back into ringside.

International Wrestling on August 12th, 1983 (Taped in the Paul Sauvé Arena, Montreal, QC on August 10th , 1983) 3,800 fans

Opening match/interview

0:00 - 9:30

The opening montage plays and we cut to the ring where Frederic Tremblay is already in the ring awaiting his opponent. Dave Kochen comes out of the curtain and gets a lukewarm response from the fans. He slaps a few hands that are offered to him and gets in the ring. Jacques, Sr. welcomes the fans to another night of International Wrestling before talking about Kochen as a young man with a lot of potential.

Dave Kochen vs. Frederic Tremblay

Kochen is dominant throughout the whole match, Tremblay getting no offense in whatsoever. Kochen focuses his attack on Tremblay’s ribs with rugged punches and knees. An abdominal stretch is too much for Tremblay to stand and he taps out.

Dave Kochen over Frederic Tremblay by submission with an abdominal stretch 4:48

The camera cuts to Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express in the backstage interview area with Jacques. Sr. after a short celebration from Kochen.

Jacques, Sr.: Eddie Creatchman, we heard from you last week about how you and your team are going to be the next challengers for the Canadian International Tag Team Titles. Have you made any progress?

Creatchman: My lawyers have been on the phone with the IWA offices for the last four days. It doesn’t matter what kind of roadblocks Valois and his “championship committee” want to throw in my way. It will happen.

Jacques, Sr.: Lawyers? Is it that impossible to just walk in and talk to Mr. Valois?

Creatchman: Listen to this, “Mr. Valois.” Why don’t you just call him “Frank?” I have seen you two, you are buddy-buddy and have been for a long, LONG time. I think that’s the main reason your boys get the opportunities they do.

Jacques, Sr.: Now you listen here, Eddie Creatchman! My boys have worked hard to get where they are and I will not stand for this nonsense from you!

Creatchman: You know what? I’m not going to give you any more reason to take MY time to talk about your boys. That’s another thing I have to talk to Valois about. We need a new interviewer around here that is unbiased. I’m sick of dealing with this slander towards me and you can expect my lawyers will be talking to Valois about that as well!

Jacques, Sr.: I’m sure that I’ll be replaced very soon, Eddie Creatchman. From what you said earlier it didn’t seem like you were any closer to getting your team a title shot than you were last week.

Creatchman: That’s because certain individuals and teams around here are favored, not just by the worst interviewer in professional wrestling, but by the ownership and whoever is on Valois’ “committee.” If it exists. This team that I represent is one of the best tag teams in all the WORLD. You could go south to the United States or Mexico. Travel to Europe or Japan. They would be RESPECTED! Not treated like second class citizens the way they are here. And do you know why? Because people like your precious sons, Gino Brito, Phil Lafon and Jim Brunzell are the darlings of not only the fans, but the promoter. So I have to scrape and claw just to get this incredible tag team the recognition the men who make it up truly deserve. Randy Rose and Dennis Condrey could go ANYWHERE and get title shots. They don’t have to stay here.

Jacques, Sr.: Then why are they here?

Creatchman: Because they want to PROVE that they are better wrestlers, better tacticians, better strategists than anyone I just mentioned. These men were smart wrestlers before I was their manager and I’m only making them smarter. The fact that you and Valois and all of these idiot fans fawn over Gino Brito and the Rougeaus makes me sick. These men are the best tag team in the world, what makes you think that they aren’t cut out to be the best tag team in Quebec?

Jacques, Sr.: I think that’s a statement that could be debated, Eddie Creatchman. You may feel that they are the best tag team in the world, and I will admit they are a great tag team. But I think you may be a little ambitious in that claim.

Creatchman: When did it ever matter what you thought, Rougeau? While we’re on the subject, when did you start thinking? I guess being an interviewer and play-by-play man makes you the foremost expert on wrestling in the world. And another thing, Rougeau. I notice that you call everyone else Mr. and use my full name. Care to explain?

Jacques, Sr.: Eddie Creatchman, the term “Mister” is a sign of respect. I lost all respect for you years ago.

Creatchman: I would have lost respect for you, Rougeau, but I never had any to begin with. I’m sick of talking to you. I’m sick of you wasting the time of these two great pro wrestlers to further your own agendas. I’m going right now to have a chat with Frank Valois about his choice of interviewers!

Creatchman storms off with the Midnight Express glaring at Jacques, Sr. for a moment before following. Jacques, Sr.’s bemused expression, which has been on his face for the last half of the interview tells the story as he watches them storm away.

Commercial Break

9:30 - 17:00

We come back from commercial to the ring where Bobby and Rudy Kay are waiting. Jacques, Sr. puts over Dave Kochen’s win before the break. The Invaders come out to the ring, the crowd reacting with both boos and cheers. Jacques, Sr. talks up the impressive win for the Puerto Rican team in the Invaders’ debut last week.

The Invaders vs. The Kay Brothers

The Kays put up a fight, but the Invaders were simply too much and overpowered the veteran team for an easy victory.

Invader 3 over Rudy Kay by pinfall after a Catapult 4:21

Post-match, Invader 1 gets on the microphone in the ring.

Invader 1: We come here to fight someone strong. Gino Brito think he is strong. Next week we want fight him!

The fans react as there is movement from the back, but it’s Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson. A short brawl ensues, with the Invaders driving off the Mad Dog and Poisson. Jacques, Sr. Takes time to go over the rest of the matches on the card quickly before commercial break.

Commercial Break

17:00 - 24:00

Jacques, Sr. praises the Invaders for running off Lefebvre and Poisson as we return from commercial to Alex Gerrard waiting in the ring. Hercules Ayala, a large, muscular man of Cuban descent comes out to the ring to almost no reaction. Jacques, Sr. puts Ayala over as massively strong and very capable.

Hercules Ayala vs. Alex Gerrard

Ayala dominates this match, hitting impressive moves like an overhead press slam, an over-the shoulder-power slam and a big running body splash in the corner with zero offense from Gerrard.

Hercules Ayala over Alex Gerrard by pinfall after a running body splash 3:43

Following the match Jacques, Sr. is in the interview area with Lou Albano, once again without his charges.

Jacques, Sr.: Mr. Albano, last week was just about the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen in wrestling. Those fans pay good money to come here and watch a wrestling show, not to get knocked out because you’re angry!

Albano: Those fans are in the combat zone, Rougeau! Did you see how fast that guy dropped?! You may not like him, but King Tonga is a very dangerous man.

Jacques, Sr.: I’ve never once doubted that. What I doubt is how safe it is to have him around most human beings.

Albano: I warned you and all of these people! Tonga John and King Tonga are monsters. Nobody wanted to listen. Now everyone is finding out that not only was I serious, but I may have undersold them!

Jacques, Sr.: That may well be true, Mr. Albano, but you can’t deny that the Can Am Express held their own last week.

Albano: I knew you’d find a way to make this about your new best buddies. Guess what, Rougeau, I will say that those two surprised me.

Jacques, Sr.: I suppose that’s all I’m going to get out of you on that. Do you have any plans of scaling back this assault on everyone who makes you upset and letting your charges spend a few consecutive weeks wrestling in the IWA?

Albano: Do you plan on asking a good question ever? You think these little vacations bother my monsters? They know that everything they do has a purpose and that’s why they do it. They trust me to get them where they want to go and I plan on doing just that. I have been involved in wrestling longer than you have, Rougeau and I can tell you that my monsters are something special! I mean to use every bit of knowledge I have to make them into bigger stars than even your sons!

Jacques, Sr.: I commend you on your devotion to your clients, Mr. Albano, even if I don’t agree with your methods. That is certainly a tall order and I wish you luck.

Albano: I don’t need luck, Rougeau. I leave the luck to schmucks like you and find ways to get what I want.

Albano laughs at Jacques, Sr. as he walks away.

Commercial Break

24:00 - 39:30

Jacques Sr. Talks up Hercules Ayala’s displays of strength in the previous match as we come back from commercial. Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson make their way to the ring with the crowd booing. Jacques, Sr. recaps how the Invaders ran Lefebvre and Poisson off earlier in the evening. Armand Rougeau and Rene Goulet get a lot of cheers on their way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. talks about the improvements he’s already seeing from his son after working with Goulet.

Armand Rougeau & Rene Goulet vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson

Armand comes out hot against Lefebvre and the two have a heated brawl. Poisson catches Rougeau and holds him in place as Lefebvre knees him in the midsection. Poisson and Lefebvre destroy Armand’s back for a long while. Armand almost reaches his corner to tag, but Poisson grabs the trunks to continue the beating. Lefebvre begins biting Armand’s forehead, but Armand brawls back through it. Armand is again cut off, this time Lefebvre grabbing his leg just as he looks to make the tag. Lefebvre and Poisson use quick tags until Armand crawls through Lefebvres’ legs to tag Goulet, but Poisson detains referee Pierre Bertrand, who doesn’t see the tag. Rougeau finally hits a dropkick on Poisson, now the legal man, and crawls to his corner to make the tag. Goulet is hot, clearing Lefebvre off the apron and working over Poisson. Armand lays in right hands on Lefebvre outside and whips him into the turnbuckle before dropkicking him over. Referee Bertrand sees the end of this and sends Rougeau back to his corner. Goulet is working a tight headlock on Poisson, who uses the hair to take Goulet to the ropes. Armand, standing within reach, tags in and blindsides Poisson with a flying bionic elbow to set up his sleeper for the win.

Armand Rougeau over Gilles Poisson by submission with the sleeper 13:51

Jacques, Sr. praises Armand’s resilience after the beating he took, calling his son’s win “hard-fought and well-earned.” He puts over Lefebvre and Poisson as a team that works well together and calls Goulet “a fine mentor for my son.”

39:30 - 56:30

We return from commercial to Jacques, Sr. in the ring with The Can Am Express. Lafon and Brunzell are playing to the crowd.

Jacques, Sr.: You two have had quite a lot on your plate since arriving here in the International Wrestling Association. Your troubles with Sgt. Slaughter continued at Blood & Gold.

Lafon: I hope Slaughter is proud of himself. I can promise you one thing, Jacques, Sr. The next time we meet I will make sure Slaughter pays!

Brunzell: We could stand here and make excuses for what happened both times, Jacques, Sr. Instead I’m going to tell you that we came up short twice and it won’t happen a third time!

The crowd pops.

Jacques, Sr.: I’m sure these fans are looking forward to that! Let’s talk about Lou Albano and his Tongan Terrors. Last week was quite the brawl.

Brunzell: We decided to give the Tongans a taste of their own medicine. It’s time somebody stood up to them.

Lafon: The only shame is that we didn’t get our hands on Albano.

Jacques, Sr.: I don’t think I can agree with attacking a manager or anyone else who isn’t a wrestler.

Lafon: I understand what you’re saying Jacques Sr., but we owe it to these fans to make Albano and his “monsters” pay for their actions.

Brunzell: Monsters. They are men just like the rest of us and can be beaten. We will prove that.

Lafon: Right before we make Albano pay.

The crowd pops again.

Jacques, Sr.: You heard it here tonight, fans. The Can Am Express have the Tongan terrors in their sights!

Jacques Sr. exits the ring as the Can Am Express play to the crowd. The crowd gets a little louder as Gino Brito and Tony Parisi walk to the ring slapping hands with fans. Jacques, Sr. is back at the announce table calling this match another test for the Can Am Express after their great match with the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers.

The Can Am Express vs. Gino Brito & Tony Parisi

Lafon tries to start out fast against the veteran Brito, but can’t force the mroe expreienced wrestler to work his pace. Brito and Parisi work Lafon over methodically, but Lafon fires up and hits a few kicks on Parisi to tag. Brunzell matches up well with both Parisi and Brito. Lafon again is tagged in and trades blows with Parisi before hitting a dropkick and tagging Brunzell. Brunzell and Parisi speed the pace up as they use their cutting edge offense to work on Parisi. Tempers flare when Brito is tagged in against Lafon, resulting in a short brawl. Brito gets the better of the rookie and sets him up for a side suplex after tagging in Parisi, who immediately climbs to the top. Parisi comes crashing down with a senton off the top to get the three count. Following the match, Brito and Parisi shake hands with the Can Am Express. Brito’s handshake with Lafon is a bit tense at first, but the rookie smiles and says something that leads to a hug between the two.

Tony Parisi over Phil Lafon by pinfall after a side suplex/flying senton combination 14:22

The show closes with all four wrestlers playing to the crowd as Jacques, Sr. applauds all four for a match well wrestled and without unnecessary shortcuts taken.

It's terrible to see the way that Jacques Sr. keeps holding down The Midnight Express.

I generally know pretty much everyone on the shows I read but man this territory is a giant black hole for me and that's despite the fact that I have watched maybe 5-6 Montreal DVDs.

Yeah, I have probably about your knowledge of the territory. I'm making up some character stuff and playing off of what came through from my limited viewing of Brito, Armand, Creatchman, etc. I hope I'm not butchering any of them, but there's maybe two people on the board that would even know, so I guess it's no big deal.

Albano with the Faces of Fear is a good call.

I'm interested in every single combination of Rougeaus, Midnights, Tongans, Can-Am. Such a gold mine of tag teams.

And because of your writing, you have maybe the strongest announcer in this project with Jacques Rougeau Sr. Instant respect for the man and his position on the show due to the Lance Russell-like interactions with various wrestlers.

International Wrestling, August 19th, 1983 (Taped August 17th,1983 in the Colisée de Rimouski, Rimouski, QC ) 4,300 fans

0:00 - 11:30

The opening credits roll and we cut to the ring with Bobby Kay waiting for his opponent. Goldie Rogers comes out of the back with an arrogant walk. He makes a point not to allow fans to touch him, especially his flowing blond locks. Jacques, Sr. is not impressed in his description of this.

Goldie Rogers vs. Bobby Kay

Rogers dominates from the start, but Kay makes a comeback bid a few minutes in that ends abruptly when Rogers baits him outside and quickly rolls back into the ring. Kay can’t mount a second comeback after Rogers attacks him on the way back in and ends up falling victim to a neckbreaker for the three count.

Goldie Rogers by pinfall after a neckbreaker 4:27

Rogers celebrates before having words with some fans about how ugly they are before tossing his hair and posing on his way to the back. Jacques, Sr. Is in the ring where the Tongan terrors and Lou Albano are now headed. Albano approaches Jacques, Sr. with a big smile on his face.

Jacques, Sr.: I’ve never seen you so happy, Mr. Albano.

Albano: My monsters are back! I miss having them here, Rougeau. I’m so happy they are back that nobody can ruin my day. Not you, not these fans-

The fans try to boo Albano out of the building.

Albano: You see, Rougeau. Today is a great day. And now it’s time for my monsters to do what they do best. Beat whatever poor slobs put in front of them unconscious!

Jacques, Sr. shakes his head as he leaves the ring and makes his way back to the announce table. The Gerrard Brothers come out to a small positive response, and the Tongans jump them the instant they reach ringside. Jacques, Sr. puts over the courage of the Gerrards for getting in the ring with the Tongan Terrors. He then describes Rogers’ earlier victory as “a great showing in his debut.”

The Tongan Terrors vs. The Gerrard Brothers

The Tongans dominate this all the way through, destroying Alex and Tim Gerrard with reckless abandon. Mercifully, they finish off Tim with a savate kick from King Tonga followed by a Tonga John headbutt from the top rope. The two big Tongan wrestlers continue the assault at Albano’s urging until the Can Am Express come out with chairs to run them off and help the Gerrards up.

Tonga John over Tim Gerrard by pinfall after a savate kick/flying headbutt combination 4:17

Jacques, Sr. is thankful that LaFon and Brunzell were able to save the Gerrards any further punishment at the hands of the Terrors as the ring clears. He runs down the rest of the matches on the card before we go to commercial.

Commercial Break

11:30 - 21:30

We return from commercial to a shot of Jacques Sr. as he recaps the show so far. Invader 1 emerges from the curtain to a mix of cheers and boos after the camera cuts to the ring. Gino Brito comes out to a massive pop. Jacques, Sr. commends Invader 1 on his part in running off Lefebvre and Poisson last week, but wonders if calling Gino Brito out was wise.

Gino Brito vs. Invader 1

The match starts out and continues as a brawl, with Invader 1 and Brito both wading in with lefts and rights. The crowd begins the match booing Invader 1, but warm up to him as the brawl continues to go back and forth. Brito catches a rough headlock, but that doesn’t last long as he runs into an Invader 1 dropkick off the ropes. Invader 1 locks on an equally rough headlock and ends up being hiptossed off the ropes. Both men frustrated, they go back to punching each other back and forth. Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson rush the ring and attack both, causing referee Andre Roy to call for the bell. Invader 1 and Brito end up clearing Lefebvre and Poisson from the ring one each before turning around and glaring at one another. The two men relax and shake hands, Brito raising the arm of Invader 1 with the crowd cheering loudly.

Match thrown out due to both men being attacked 7:18

Jacques, Sr. excitedly puts over Invader 1 as a great addition to the IWA and a potential ally for Gino Brito as we go to commercial with both in the ring soaking in the cheers of the fans.

Commercial Break

21:30 - 37:00

The camera is on Jacques, Sr. at the announce table and he recaps the finish and post-match events of Brito vs. Invader 1. The crowd starts booing and the camera cuts to Mad Dog Lefebvre and Gilles Poisson making their way to the ring. Jacques, Sr. makes a point of calling this a dangerous veteran team that will do absolutely anything to win a match. Mad Dog Vachon and Jim Brunzell come out to a HUGE pop. Jacques, Sr. talks about Vachon’s history in Quebec and Brunzell’s athleticism and skill.

Mad Dog Vachon & Jim Brunzell vs. Mad Dog Lefebvre & Gilles Poisson

The Mad Dogs start things off, both again trying to bite the other once they have an advantage and open up a wound on the other’s forehead. Both end up bleeding but not wanting to tag out. Vachon ends up in the wrong corner and the heels work over his cut. Brunzell tries to rally the crowd behind Vachon from the apron as the Mad Dog starts ignoring punches from Poisson. Poisson tries going to the eyes, but Vachon is quicker on the draw and rakes Poisson’s eyes before unloading with big lefts. He drives Poisson back into the corner where Brunzell eagerly takes the tag and starts destroying Poisson. Lefebvre is dropkicked out of the ring as he comes in to help. Brunzell is on fire in the ring as Vachon goes around the ring to attack Lefebvre. Brunzell misses a dropkick as Poisson catches the ropes in the ring and the big man starts pounding away on his back. Vachon breaks from his attack on Lefebvre when he hears the crowd react and heads back into the ring only to have his head rammed into the ringpost by Lefebvre. Lefebvre slams Vachon on the floor and joins Poisson in the ring beating down Brunzell. Head referee Adrian Desbois gets Lefebvre into his corner after checking on Vachon at ringside. Poisson locks on a bearhug and carries Brunzell over into his corner where Lefebvre can tag him before setting him on the top turnbuckle. Lefebvre climbs up to the second rope and hits a superplex on a groggy Brunzell for the three as Vachon begins to stir. Lafebvre rolls out of the ring to attack Vachon with Poisson close behind, but Phil Lafon and Armand Rougeau run out from the back to stop any kind of post-match attack by Lefebvre and Poisson.

Mad Dog Lefebvre over Jim Brunzell by pinfall after a bearhug/second rope superplex 13:47

Jacques, Sr. is relieved that his son and Phil Lafon had the presence of mind to interrupt what could have been a career-ending attack on Mad Dog Vachon after the brutal attack by Lefebvre as we go to commercial.

Commercial Break
37:00 - 54:00

We come back from commercial to a shot of the ring as Jacques Rougeau is coming out of the back to a thunderous roar. He is one half of the Canadian International Tag Team champions and wears the gold to prove it. Jacques, Sr. calls his son “a great pro wrestler in every facet.” Randy Rose emerges from the curtain to loud boos, accompanied by Eddie Creatchman. Jacques Sr. puts over Rose as a complete wrestler as well, saying he matches up well with Jacques.

Jacques Rougeau vs. Randy Rose

Jacques comes out firing with right hands and follows with a dropkick to send Rose out of the ring. Rose confers with Creatchman before returning to the ring, firing back with right hands only to block the return punch from Rougeau and kick at his left knee. Rose works over Jacques’ knee for a while before starting in on the midsection. Jacques comes firing back with punches, but Rose goes right back to the knee. Jacques grabs Rose’s left arm and starts working on it after a missed elbow drop. Jacques is doing everything he can to avoid standing on his left leg and still do damage while Rose keeps fighting to get back to his feet. Rose gets to his feet and kicks Jacques leg out from under him, forcing Jacques to roll outside about ten feet from Creatchman. Creatchman distracts Rougeau and Rose lands a boot from the apron before hopping down and slamming Jacques’ head into the apron. Rose wants to suplex Jacques in, but Jacques lands behind him, almost falling over on the bad leg. Rose goes behind Jacques, who goes to the ropes, but ends up caught in an O’Connor roll by Rose for three.

Randy Rose by pinfall with an O’Connor roll 14:22

Jacques Sr. begrudgingly commends Rose on a match well-wrestled while Rose and Creatchman celebrate in the ring as we go to commercial.

54:00 - 56:30

Eddie Creatchman and the Midnight Express are in the ring with Jacques, Sr. as we come back from break.

Jacques, Sr.: It looks like your strategy finally won out, Eddie Creatchman. I can’t say I’m happy about it, but your man pinned my son in the center of the ring.

Creatchman: You’re finally seeing what I’ve been telling you all along, Rougeau. Your boys are not the great wrestlers you think they are! My man Randy Rose just proved that!

Jacques, Sr.: You can say that, Eddie Creatchman, but even the best wrestlers get beat. I won’t go so far as to call Mr. Rose lucky, but I will say that it’s a matchup that can go either way.

Creatchman: Whatever you want to say doesn’t bother me one bit, Rougeau. Nobody cares what you think anyway.

The crowd boos very loudly.

Creatchman: You all need to show me and these men some respect. Randy Rose just dethroned one of your heroes! The great Jacques Rougeau will never be the same again!

Jacques, Sr.: I’d like to ask you a question, Eddie Creatchman. Does your team have the Canadian International Tag Team Titles yet?

Creatchman: No they do not, but it won’t be long until they have those belts around their waists. I think Randy Rose proved here tonight that we are the number one contenders!

The crowd erupts.

Creatchman: You see, Rougeau, it’s not just-

Jacques & Raymond Rougeau are halfway to the ring by the time Creatchman and the Midnight Express realize the cheers are not for them. The Rougeaus enter the ring and stand behind their father.

Jacques, Sr.: I think I know two young men who might disagree with you, Eddie Creatchman.

Jacques: We don’t care who challenges us for these belts.

Raymond: We do think that there are other deserving teams that should get a shot before the two of you.

The crowd cheers.

Creatchman: You would say that! After the beating Randy Rose just handed you, Jacques, I’m surprised you’re out here. I know you’re scared of the Midnight Express and what is going to happen to you next time! So do Randy Rose and Dennis Condrey!

The crowd goes crazy as the Midnight Express and the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers face off in the center of the ring to close the show.

Good stuff with The Midnights and Rougeaus. I've been watching some of Rose & Condrey lately in Southeastern and man I actually would put them ahead of Creachman as far as talking goes. But having a shithead like Creachman at ringside only makes things more interesting.

Midnights/Rougeaus is such a fun feud. It makes me drool for an Eaton/Lane vs. Fabulous Rougeaus match from 1989. But this is a good replacement.

I like seeing singles matches on some of those upcoming shows between the various tag teams. Such a smart move to use all those talented guys in both types of matches. So many interesting matchups.
