Kris Zellner is joined by the mysterious El Boricua & Dylan Hales (Wrestling Culture) to discuss the history of Carlos Colon and why he is deserving to be a member of the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame. We discuss how important Colon was to not just wrestling in Puerto Rico but the culture all together as well as all of the great angles and matches that he was a part of. I learned a lot on this show and you will too as this is the most important episode of Exile that I have ever recorded!!!!

Yeah I'm fucking jazzed for the next show or two we can do in the future about the other great characters in Puerto Rico over the years.

Chicky Starr may get his own show.

I hated this show. I was hoping to get some work done yesterday but spent 3 hours listening to Boricua tell great stories about Carlos Colon and Abdullah the Butcher. Damn you for not letting me get any work done!!!!

Boricua was a really great guest as it's important to understand the cultural background to a candidate's Hall Of Fame case and how they were perceived locally by fans. (Ahem see Big Daddy).

Kris, can you explain more behind the background to Valentine working WWC whilst under contract to the WWF?

On Between the Sheets for that week in 1991 we talked about how WWF let about 15 guys work other organizations like Memphis, PNW, WWC without any issues.

Got this one downloaded & geared up for listening sometime during commutes this week. Can't wait. Sometime back when the Exile series had just launched, I put in a request to Kris for more Puerto Rico content. I figured maybe a 1 or 2 parter on the territory in general, but separate snapshots on individuals serves even better.

I'll be honest, while I know the names, I know virtually nothing about the wrestling scene besides the obvious (Brody's death, Colon/Abdullah, etc). I think a lot of my ignoring the promotion was due to Brody's death, so I was hesitant to listen. I then thought I was robbing myself because I love the history of wrestling.

I was shocked how similar as to what I grew up - Memphis. I try to watch Memphis stuff once a week and hearing about Puerto Rico on the podcasts reminds me why I could care less about today's product - there's nothing personal which leads me to not care about any wrestler out there.

Granted Vince makes a lot of money, but good Lord, imagine if he got actual "heat" with the product. God I miss old school wrestling. Thanks for the podcast

BTW, was that a bird chirping?!?

Kris, was that you yelling randomly at your dog (or something) twice during the show? It wasn't Boricua because he was talking.

I loved the explanation on some of the classic angles that I didn't know (like the TNT MYSTERIOUS ORIENTAL NERVE HOLD). I love old school angles but I know that stuff won't work in 2015 so you can't copy it. You could, however, borrow the concept and apply it in a modern way (an MMA hold, for instance). Shows like this one really remind you how sterile wrestling is nowadays pretty much everywhere in the world.

BUTCH!!! was awesome

Holy shit was this show great. So much knowledge and it feels like we could have multiple versions on Chikky, Abdullah in Puerto Rico, TNT, etc. Boricua was a gold mine and a great podcast debut for him. One of the best pods I have heard this year.

I actually didn't hear BUTCH!!! when recording, probably because Kris had his mic on mute. But when I gave the show a listen, I actually thought he was yelling BURKE!!!! (since the topic was Leo Burke at that moment), and I thought "Okay, I didn't know Kris was so excited to talk about Leo Burke".

Listening to the podcast, I'm pretty sure the chirping sound is from my end (sorry about that). That's not a bird, it sounds to me like a coqui. They are native to Puerto Rico. There must have been one near me when I was on the line.

A fucking frog!@!!!! That is awesome.

Yeah, it looks like there are a few in my yard, so the sound was coming from outside via the windows. And I kid you not, as I'm typing this they've started up.
