Well, I'd say Satanico would match up well too. But I can absolutely see either matchup as a really fun one that never got seen for Martel. That card had to send the Ontario folks home happy. :)

NWA Lutte Internationale TV

Taped at CHLT-TV Studios on January 22nd 1986, Sherbrooke, QC

Broadcasted January 25th, 1986

dieu.jpg220px-Nwalogobw.jpg

-The broadcast team welcomed the viewers to this last episode in its current format as they hit the road next week with the first show being in Vernon, British Columbia

-In the first match, The Botswana Beast squashed Braxton Jeanes & Malcolm Eaton in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. After the match, Eddy Creatchman joined the broadcast booth for an interview and kept hyping the impending arrival of his newest monster, repeating that not even the Botswana Beast wants to be seen near him and he will wreak havoc in the entire National Wrestling Alliance. The Brain promises no one will see him coming!

-A video package featuring the Fabulous Freebirds, more specifically Terry Gordy, is being shown as the Freebirds will be in Lutte Internationale for the whole month of February. Terry Gordy will make his TV debut NEXT WEEK in Vernon, BC!

-That package brought NWA Canadian International TV Champion Adrian Adonis, along with his manager Paul E. Dangerously and the Nasty Boys. Dangerously says he doesn't understand why people are so excited about the Freebirds when they should be talking about him and Adrian Adonis. Adonis is the most prestigious champion they have right now - obviously ignoring Rick Martel as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Paul E. asks if there'll be any title matches next week for the live weekly premiere. Édouard Carpentier mentions that Rick Martel will be defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Richard Charland in the main event while Armand Rougeau will be defending the Quebec Heavyweight Championship against Jimmy Snuka. Paul E says that he wants Adonis to defend his title too; after all, he's the TV Champion and it is the most prestigious title on the program. NWA Board of Directors Enforcer Bruno Sammartino comes out and says that if this is what Adonis wants, that's what he'll get. Next week, on the live premiere of Lutte TV, Adrian Adonis will defend against....JOS LEDUC! Adonis is unhappy and Paul E is freaking out a bit, hurrying his troops to the back, obviously working on a game plan!

-Before the main event, the broadcast team hypes tonight's show at the CNE Coliseum with the main event featuring Magnum TA defending the NWA US Heavyweight Championship against The Great Samu. They also announce that Lutte will be returning with another show in the United States, this time at the Omni in Atlanta on February 2 and the main event will feature Armand Rougeau defending the Quebec Heavyweight Championship against Terry Gordy of the Fabulous Freebirds! The semi-main will feature Jacques Rougeau defending the NWA Canadian International Heavyweight Championship against Jos LeDuc.

-In the main event, NWA World Light Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit squared off against one half of the NWA Canadian International Tag Team Champions, Butcher Vachon. Benoit did the best he could, using his technical skills and speed to counter Butcher's experience and strength but in the end, Butcher made Benoit submit to a bearhug. After the match, both Vachons are headed to the broadcast booth for an interview but Mad Dog did most of the talking. Mad Dog says that they've been the most dominant team in Lutte in recent memory. They can hold on as long as they wish and that's what they'll do. Mad Dog Vachon makes a shocking announcement that if anybody beat them for those tag team titles, they will retire on-the-spot! That's how confident they are in their ability but they aren't going anywhere right now! The show ended with a puzzled look in the face of both Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier!

Liked the Adonis/Paul E segment as they really make the TV title feel important. Who is this monster coming in??? The Vachon's put it all out there. Another solid card. Martel with another strong title defense. Good week for Magnum. In

Yeah, another lovely classic 80s wrestling type moment: The heel champ and manager demanding a match then freaking out when they get one. Love that kind of stuff!

That is a star-studded main event right there. Benoit vs. Fulton would be a great match if all they did was punch/chop each other, much less all the other stuff. :)

I love the pairing of the Nasties and Paul E. I always thought they'd be a perfect fit for one another. You have really pushed Benoit to the top here. He is getting a lot of recognition as a young up and comer as he should have. I would have loved to see the crowd when Von Erich and Magnum took down the Rougeaus.

That was one stellar main event! I would of shelled out some money to watch that one. Oh man I'm sure hoping for a Mr. Electricity/Benoit title match. Intern 2 has been on a roll. Charland looking strong for his upcoming World Title match on TV.

Contract on a Pole Match - Winner gets in the NWA National Heavyweight Championship Match at the Omni in Atlanta on February 2nd, Quebec Heavyweight Champion Armand Rougeau vs Bobby Fulton: This match is also shown in closed circuit in Winnipeg for the AWA monthly event. Tonight's main event is also emanating from Winnipeg as NWA World Heavyweight Champion Rick Martel will take on Raymond Rougeau. Both men use their speed and athleticism throughout the entire match as both Armand & Fulton are trying to get to the pole and grab that National title match contract. While he's mostly a tag team specialist, Bobby Fulton is doing pretty good in this one as he has been a lot of singles matches lately, just like his partner Tommy Rogers. Bobby Fulton almost grabs the contract as Armand seems to be out of it but seeing that Armand is getting back up, Bobby Fulton turns around and attempts a missile dropkick but Armand dodged and Fulton missed his target! That finally allows Armand to climb on the turnbuckle and grab the contract! Armand Rougeau is headed to Atlanta & the National Heavyweight title match! Quebec Heavyweight Champion Armand Rougeau beat Bobby Fulton in 13:43

-Bruce Hart beat Satanico in 14:35

-Terry Gordy beat Hillbilly Jim in 13:36

From Winnipeg, showed in close circuit in the venue - NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Rick Martel beat Raymond Rougeau in 14:25 to retain

Benoit and Matt Borne from the Portland days would be a great, great tag team. Benoit and Matt Borne the clown would just be bizarre. Not sure how the half-clown borne fits into this. Armand getting a NWA title shot is a big deal.

I love the use of the simulcast gimmick. I watched WMIII on closed circuit and it was an absolute blast. Glad it all came off without any technical hitches! (Comment simulcasted from the AWA thread).
