rovert
That's a pretty big news. Although I never saw any talent in him whatsoever, he has been one of their top stars of the last few years. Rumours on him showing up in TNA 5... 4.... 3... Either that or get his breakthough role in a major Hollywood film as Bodyguard #
kjh
I don't think Batista's contract has expired yet, so it may be several months before he his legally able to join TNA. Yeah, though it's a given that TNA will heavily court him to come to the company ASAP.
Sean Liska
This sucks. Batista has been great as a heel. Too bad we only got a few months of him in this role.
sek69
Also this is the exact reason WWE gives everyone stupid gimmick names now, since he'll be able to go to TNA whenever and use the name he was a star in WWE with (plus the additional u). Johnny Sorrow
I'm watching Will's 4 Horsemen set and even though I was watching this stuff at the time there seems to be lots of stuff I never saw. Which is awesome. What really got my attention was seeing former AWA Tag Champ Mr. Electricity Steve Regal IN Crockett, let alone teaming with Tully on a Mid Atlantic TV show, with a still photo of him after the match that said "A newcomer in the camp???????" This was while Ole was out and they were starting to hype his return. Was Steve Regal actually being considered as a possible Horseman? Edit: I forgot all about the group of dudes who'd sit ringside at the TBS studios in suits who were Horsemen and Cornette fans. Those guys were a blast. KrisZ
I doubt Regal was considered a Horseman replacement but he did reform his team with Garvin quite a few times in JCP.

jdw
BTW, how many pro wrestling riffs did Dave have in his WEC report on the site? I lost count at some point... the Paul Heyman one got me. John
KrisZ
The one that confused me the most was the opening line on Aldo/Faber with the Bret Hart rhetoric. I think Dave was openly rooting for Faber to win for business. Speaking of business, how long before the hatred of Tito begins because this is a black eye for the MMA business hurting it's mainstream appeal. Strummer
When exactly did Terry Funk leave a WWF PPV right before the show because his horse was dying? I've heard that story before, but I don't remember him really being built up for any PPV appearances before '98 as Chainsaw Charlie, and it apparently happened before that. Just to add a little more info. According to Terry he was going to lose clean to one of the Hart Brothers (Bret I think) have his masked removed and run away in disgrace and eventually have a booking role backstage. Once Terry found out the plan he did the "Horse dying" bit and went right back to Texas
sek69
So with there being yet another Cena-Batista match on PPV next month, what are the odds that the crowd turns on him like Goldberg/Brock since word will be out by then he's leaving? jdw
So was Brock. And it was the wrong type of heel heat. John
Johnny Sorrow
Unless the PPV is in New York or Philly I doubt it. And I'm sure that Dave would react to it in some sort of awesome way. He's been fantastic jaw jacking with the crowd this whole heel run. And Flair truly is his mentor, cause said jaw jacking is right out of "Ric Flair-1985-86". Guest Slickster
This Batista thing will be shades of Lex Luger at SuperBrawl II or Hogan going into KOTR 1993: weeks of not wrestling before coming into the PPV to do one more job. The difference is that over the next 4 weeks it will become common public knowledge Batista will be leaving the company and I think the fans at the arena in Detroit will definitely know it. Guest Slickster
TNA Impact slumps to their worst rating in history going head to head with the first two hours of WWE Raw's Draft show If WWE really wanted to kill off TNA, they would just keep doing three-hour Raws and ask WGN America for more time on Thursday nights. TNA would close within eight weeks. Of course, WWE's recent actions regarding roster cuts indicates they consider TNA as big a Monday-night threat as ROH. Loss
The fanbase skews so much younger than it did in 2004 that I'm not sure it will have as huge an impact. Remember, Chris Jericho didn't get that type of reaction when it got out he was leaving after Summerslam 2005, although admittedly, part of that was him being smart and controlling the messaging. Guest Slickster
I still think the same type of wrestling rumors and innuendo are spread among the younger fan base even if its through Facebook or YouTube comments. If Web 2.0 existed in 1997 I'm sure a percentage of fans would still think Stone Cold and Goldberg were the same person.

khawk20
Not sure if this was mentioned in this thread or not, but from the Tuesday Observer online update: -- I will be flying to Atlanta tomorrow to conduct the first-ever Wrestling Observer Shoot, which will be available on DVD both online and in major retailers around the country. Our first guest will be Abdullah the Butcher, and he's promised to talk openly about everything in his career and even things that happened before he got into wrestling. I'll also be touring his famous HOUSE OF RIBS and sampling some of the fare. The DVD will include other extras including never-before-seen matches from Abby's private collection. If you have any questions for Abdullah on any subject email them to me ASAP at [email protected] e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll ask as many as we can. We'll have much more on this project in the next few months, and we've got several other guests lined up for future DVDs. I'm very excited about this project and want to thank The Cancer on our board for making it all possible. Why would you start a Shoot DVD series interviewing Abdullah, of all people? that has potential to be both an incredibly shitty interview and a disaster for the shootitself if Abby decides to go off his meds and not co-operate on that day. Plus Abby telling the truth = lol. I've seen a few of Abby's shoots and they all sucked. His pro Wres Icons segment was the only thing relatively decent in that genre, and that was short and professionally put together, not your standard shoot fair. Is it fair to say they are trying to hit a home run and get a truly "Good" Abby shoot as their kickoff, as opposed to a safer choice that couldn't potentially screw it up for them? Now figure the Abby shoot is an undeniable success (which it looks like it could be) then this opens up the gates to get a good series of shoots with workers Dave & Bryan are friendly with.
