Is this one a joke too?:

That's Evan Tanner: walking towards us, but not amongst us.

Reads like it might be tongue n cheek, but not sure.

The Won online search function isnn't that great of a search engine but you can find plenty of Coughlin there. What should I read?

I seriously doubt it was tongue n cheek, Tanner touched a lot of people through his struggles and people do get mushy about him. With the greatest of respects you are coming across as trying too hard to find something on him here.

Christ what part of I dont read his columns you dont understand? I listen to his podcasts.

Rovert, you live in Dublin (or at least that's what is under your name). Clown lives...not in Dublin. Am I going out on a limb by cutting out a lot of bullshit and assuming that the drama that is in your muddled head is the result of not being properly diagnosed with (fill in the blank) Syndrome. Seriously, what did he do, burn you with a "yo mama..." joke one too many times? Goddamn, you act like the dude fucked your dog.

Oh, and Coughlin sucks. Not in a, "Well, everyone has there opinion, one man's junk is another ones treasure" way either. He reads like he types that shit with his dick. Actually, all joking aside, he really reads like the equivalent of a college freshman that has just heard of, say, Stanley Kubrick for the first time. "How dare you say x is a good film! Why, I bet you have never even watched Dr. Goodlove, have you?!?" And yes, I know the title is wrong, I did it on purpose.

Quality discourse. All this shows is how low powered your own thinking is. Where did I ever say that it was a real life situation?

He is a million times more coherent than you are going by the above post, regardless.

Speaking of college I would put my academic record up against yours any day of the week and I dont even know who you are.

^ Internet intelligent man here I guess

The reviews from the Meltzer community have been interesting (though positive). Coughlin made a bizarre claim that Total MMA, supported by more than 100 interviews, didn't feature any original interviews. Dave even woke up long enough to make him fix it. The Babinsack review of my most recent book talks about Mitsuyo Maeda as a 1950's wrestler and then continues to "correct" various entries based on his unique understanding of the world. Very entertaining.

I didn’t want to ask you to transcribe podcasts. I didn’t want to ask you to transcribe podcasts. What has Coughlin said on podcasts that struck you as particularly smart. I don't have access to podcasts, and don't listen to podcasts in general. But I imaigne i that if you point to particular podcast dates I might be able to find a way to listen to them. Coughlin has never struck me as insightful writer but if that is the fault of the written form and he comes off better on radio, I am hoping you could point me to something.

Nope aint happening.

Long and short of it, this guy got banned from our website and has escalated it to the point that it can only be addressed through our attorney. Pretty typical wrestling board nutjob, but we aren't fucking around with those kinds of people.

Thats untrue you banned me from bloodyelbow for apparently making a death threat in the first post of this thread pimping your book!:

http://theboard.f4wonline.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=110845

I sorry if I posted my disappointment about your post-Total MMA writing career one too many times there.

I can post emails if you want, Snowden. You were being the nutjob refusing to back up your claim that I made a death threat, how you came to that conclusion etc. The only reason I got directed to an attorney is that I cc'd your boss about the libellous claim you made on his site, I thought he should know and your childish behaviour when discussing it with you via email was going nowhere. At least I got said claim retracted as you had no grounds for making it by that. You are pretty and pathetic.

His technical breakdown of fights are amazing and his calling card, listen to the one he'll do GSP and Koscheck.

You emailed someone's boss? Seriously? You fucking loon.

I genuinely couldn’t get anywhere with him. I asked him to clarify the situation numerous times, left it for a bit for everyone to calm down, I asked him to volunteer the contact information of someone else at SBNation first - sounds rational enough to me. He was making untrue, libellous claims on his boss's site and being completely uncooperative about addressing the situation so I emailed his boss as a very last resort.

So in summary:

Rovert said that Snowden has a history of making false claims and that Snowden could learn something from Coughlin.

When questioned to follow up on this he refused to list any false claims Snowden has made outside of some personal issue, and can’t come up with any examples of insightful written analysis by Coughlin. When given the opportunity to present an example of something that Coughlin has said insightful on a podcast (which is a format that I don’t think Snowden has used) instead of pointing to any particular analysis from the past rovert instead pointed to Coughlin’s analysis in the theoretical future. Like Nostradamus rovert knows that the smart Coughlin will come in the future.

So yeah I think we should move on from the Snowden v rovert thing which was a distraction from the original two issues:

A)Coughlin is obtuse:

Everyone who has ever written about BJ Penn writes some variation of “the outcome depends on which Bj Penn shows up”, “BJ Penn sometimes comes into fights showing absolutely no fire”, yadda yadda.Couglin read where Snowden said that Penn was sometimes uninspired and somehow interpreted it as Snowden accusing Penn of deliberately throwing fights.

B)The figure four board is a message board with a section devoted to leering pictures of underage girls:

Here Coughlin is correct. It would be odd to get kicked off a website that has a section devoted to leering pictures of underage girls. what could you possibly do that would be more potentially bad for the website owner's reputation. Which brings up the larger point, that the figure four board is a message board with a section devoted to leering pictures of underage girls.

Coughlin wasn't obtuse, he was being willfully obtuse. Seeing things that weren't there, because like a lot of people over on the figure four board, he doesn't like Snowden for whatever reason. Really it would be odd to get kicked off a website for burying a competing journalist when Alvarez and Meltzer has made habits of late of doing the same thing.

What could be worse than the jailbait thread, possibly hiring a homophobe who thinks that the Unabomber was a tool of Al Gore and that everyone who disagrees with him is a Marxist. ;)

Ill remember to bring a pen and piece of with me the next time I listen to his 2 hour podcast.....

tomk, pick any major fight any fight go back and listen to Coughlin's analysis.

So, for clarification's sake, you're saying Coughlin is a quality analyst on his podcasts, but one whose analysis is so completely unremarkable that you can't actually remember any specifics about anything he's ever said without writing it out immediately after he says it for future reference? I mean, I guess it's possible to analyze a fight well without actually being able to deliver that analysis in a compelling manner, but is he really so unmemorable that you literally can remember nothing about anything he's ever said on his podcasts without taking notes as it happens?

Seriously why are you being such an utter cunt here?

I spent the last year not subscribing to F4W due to college so I don’t have any recent examples and those examples I did have been forgotten due to a very hectic year. Of course now you are now going to claim that Coughlin's analysis is forgettable or something. Before that I would be listening during work or hungover on a Saturday morning before I went to the bookies I was not listening for archival purposes, I was listening for near term (fight to fight, I wasnt compiling dossiers on every fighter), entertainment purposes. His technical analysis typically picks up on one or two habits/tics/quirks of fighters which I have never previously heard discussed normally which have a strong factor in the outcome of the fight. It is why people on F4W listen to him, like I said before it is his calling card. If you want greater detail on that ask people who have listened more consistently or intently than I have this year failing that you could yourself you know actually listen to his shows.
